The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940

Complete with secret passageways, flickering lights and the blizzard of the century, this laugh-filled farce spoofs the great murder mystery movies of the 1940’s. As the murderous mayhem unfolds, an eccentric heiress has agreed to work with the New York police to solve a series of murders. She invites a group of theatre people to her home on the pretense of holding a backer’s audition for a new musical. The creative team for this new project had also been involved in Manhattan Musical, a production that closed abruptly when three of its showgirls were mysteriously murdered. It’s not long before bodies are dropping once again and everyone’s a suspect. Will the mystery of the Stage Door Slasher be untangled before it’s too late?

A case of epic proportions is being investigated in this courtroom drama that tells the true story of Leopold and Leob. Never the Sinner digs deep into the minds of two rich young men who decide to plot the perfect crime. In the Chicago murder trial of the 1920’s that coined the phrase “crime of the century”, their attorney Clarence Darrow stated, “I can see sin in all the world. And I may well hate that sin, but never the sinner.”

Nanny” is an art heist, stolen heirloom, kidnapping
whodunit featuring not one single character
clever enough to have pulled it off. Was it the
gruff governess who knows semaphore or one of
the other wild characters in this comedic story?

Former draft dodger Arthur P. runs a decrepit donut shop in an uptown neighborhood in Chicago. When Franco Wicks, an idealistic African-American teenager, comes to work for him, Arthur is skeptical of his ideas to improve the business. But over time, the two form an unlikely bond as this deliciously funny and thought-provoking work explores the challenges of embracing the past and the redemptive power of friendship. Through the music of Aaron Copland, The Tender Land tells the picturesque story of a soon-to-be graduate who falls in love with an ill-reputed drifter staying with her family. Searching for freedom, commitment, and adventure, both yearn to be together, but delicate circumstances loom close as this coming-of-age tale unfolds in the heartland of America. This production marks a returning collaboration between The WMU School of Music and The WMU Department of Theatre.
