Is this the Calendar Bug in Google Analatics?

Today 27th July 2009, MONDAY evening, I was logging into Google Analytics to see the statistical report of number of users visiting my website for this week... as usual. Whilst, found something interesting, the report says 28th July 2009 as "Sunday"??? I double checked it with the assistant of Microsoft Date&Time window by double clicking it from the task bar in windows XP OS... Wow... ya I found the bug in Google calendar ;-) it shows "28th July 2009 as SUNDAY" however scrolling down my mouse further towards little backward, I am surprised to see "25th July 2009 as SATURDAY rightly..." So is it the Google Calendar bug???? for me it seems like yes... :-) Please see the screen shot of it below....

Apologies.. realized it is 26th July 2009 (not 28th July as I thought last night). I am not going to write any blog on late night again... :-(

Google Operating System by 2010 official now

Wow... some 5 years before, I got forward E-mail message from one of the group which says, Google is developing there own operating system which included some screen shot of the OS as well. However, later I read some article/news (somewhere) saying, Google market is to work on Internet arena and certainly not concern about developing standalone application. But today, it seems like the secret been revealed.

Yes, Google said, they going to release their own operating system by the middle of 2010 - "Google Chrome OS" and it's going to be "Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS," (BBC)

Very good news for all the web users like me & you however, bad news for Microsoft... Because Google is going to be an open source license agreement. In a coming month Microsoft going to release their next operating system Windows 7 for few dollars. But still expensive compared with free... lol...

Btw., I am wondering, I use Microsoft Windows OS to work on Visual Studio (VS), SQL server kinds of software since it is my career. Will the Google Chrome OS support these software? I am afraid, it is not going to be.

So as my career progressing into developer, I have to stick with Windows operating system. How poor we developer are? At least, it would be great, if Google netbook come up with an option of having dual operating system runs in their machine. If this happens, then I will use Google OS for Internet browsing (because I believe, Google application will be faster and safe) and kind of virtual machine software to work on VS or any other development software for programming purpose. Let's be patience and see how it is gonna work for us...

Web 2.0 - One Millionth word in English

The news says, "Web 2.0 crowned one millionth English word". Before I go further, if you don't know what is Web 2.0, you could take a quick look at my previous article here (Click Here). Web 2.0 is the way how you using Internet today. For example, Facebook, Orkut, You tube, Blog, New Channels, etc., like you can post the message in orkut community and some one from the community replies you back instead of administrator or owner of the orkut web site. I assume, everyone knows what web 2.0 means... If not then it's not a bad idea though having a quick look at this video.... (Web 2.0 video)

Alright, moving to what I actually what to say is... criticism started coming for web 2.0 is being crowned for one millionth English word. Some are:

"I think it's pure fraud ... It's not bad science. It's nonsense," Geoffrey Nunberg, a linguistics professor at the University of California at Berkeley, told reporters"

This list included "Jai Ho!" an Indian exclamation signifying victory or accomplishment, and "slumdog," a derisive term for children living in the slums of India that became popular with the Oscar-winning movie "Slumdog Millionaire."

To me, the criticism makes sense. How come the version number 2.0 could be the word "web 2.0" in English? Nevertheless, it is easy to criticize and web 2.0 rules the today's Internet world, that's how we connected now through this blog :-) More over, web 2.0 is my career.

Wolfram Alpha -> 1st "Answer Engine" not "Search Engine"

Last week my colleague asked me, have you heard of the new search engine??? I said, ah... I know they are lots of search engines available in online.. tried many but I always prefer Google which I consider the best one so far... at least to me... then he asked me... so how many Answer engine I heard of it? Oops! Interesting... so what’s this answer engine is about? He said.. “Wolfram Alpha” which came as a big technology news in BBC.. when you search for something in Google, it throws you thousands of results directing towards other websites. However, Wolfram Alpha gets the exact result for the content we looking for instead of re-directing us to some other website and look for the content on our own.

For example, I tried typing.. “Napier University” in the wolfram alpha search box and it gave me the following result

Hope, you got the fair idea when you had a quick look at the above image. Yes, it gave the result of the web address of the Napier University (www.napier.ac.uk), location of the University, Students strength, established year, etc., SAVES TIME! Isn’t it??? In fact lots of time because usually, if someone wants to know about University, they have to go from one page to other page to gather all these details.

The below image shows the result of the same Napier University search but in Google.... which you all very familiar about it....

Google is the Giant in this Internet world... So, I have a feeling that they may buy WolfAlpha in the near future... ;-) anyway it’s my personal wish... Why should I open a new website link to search for the content, let it be an added feature in the Google search engine itself... “Google-WolfAlpha Answer Engine” how does it sound?????

Windows 7

Have heard about the Windows 7 which is going to be the Microsoft next version operating system (OS) - an upgraded version of Windows Vista OS. When Windows Vista, code named - LongHorn been advertised, I was very excited to get that OS but after seeing too much graphics and taking long time to boot the PC, I decided to stick with Windows XP which is more reliable than the Vista - the current version of windows OS.

However, by going through the BBC website, I understood that this new version of OS windows 7 is an "evolutionary" rather than "revolutionary" so I sincerely hope that this new Windows 7 OS will overcome most of the bugs in the present vista OS with limited or good user interactive graphics in it. So, again I am excited and hope this time I will move to Windows 7 (the code name of the next version OS) than sticking with Windows XP through I don't have problem with it...

Bad experience with Gmail auto suggest Email address

So far in my all blogs, I have said positive things about Google... Now I had a bad experience sending Email from Gmail.....

My friend use to forward some of the Emails along with other people Email addresses.. What Gmail does is that all the frequent Email address listed in my inbox gets automatically saved in the Suggested contact list... It's a quiet good feature.... But as along as nothing wrong happened with it...

When my friend sending Email she also includes her other friends Email address.. lets say "Hello-1@hotmail.com" I got no idea about who is this "Hello-1" However, as one of the Gmail feature, since the "Hello-1@hotmail.com" appears so often in my inbox (which I got no clue because this id lists along with someother 15 more IDs...), it saved this address in my Suggested contact list.... But few months later, I got the friend in a similar name.. say... "Hello-2@gmail.com".. Since "Hello-2@gmail.com" is my friend, I added this in my Gmail chat list as well... After few days, I tried to send Email to my "Hello-2@gmail.com" friend from Gmail - Compose... but when I started typing "He...." it suggested me the Email address as "Hello-1@hotmail.com" I got no idea that this address been added to my Suggested email address... and assumed myself that this suggest list is from my Gmail chat contact list... and I got only one friend that the name starts in "Hello....." and continued sending the Email.....

Next day, I got reply saying... who is this???? Started wondering and realized something wrong has happened..... One of the Gmail good feature i.e., "Auto suggesting Email address" is not so good at least in my case.... :-( However, what surprised me is... it didn't show me the other id at all... the one that I have in my Gmail chat....

Yahoo to Microsoft - Yes, No... YES again

Few months before during the summer time, I read the news that Microsoft offered Yahoo to buy the company for $33/- a share. But Yahoo rejected it saying that Microsoft under estimated them. I closely followed the news even after few weeks. Some of the board members from Yahoo have quit the job saying that they didn't accept the good offer from Microsoft.

Later, Yahoo made tie-up with Google for the search engine service. I saw the changes on the yahoo search features. They brought the same concept as Google search engine i.e., pay per click for the text ads.

Today, 6th November 2008, with all this credit crunch happening in the world globally.. Google has broken the bond with Yahoo and now Yahoo closed its share value less than $14/- per share (Source: BBC). Now there's no option for Yahoo, other than selling its share to Microsoft. "Mr. Yang (Yahoo) said that the company is for sale at the right price"

Sad news but no option for Yahoo other than selling their company to Microsoft which is a good news for Microsoft. But what is the share price for Yahoo now? will it be the same $33/- per share ? I don't think so......

I am sure that Microsoft will be hoping to increase their Internet marketing to gain more revenue....

Strange experience with IE

When I am working in my University... strange things have happened, one of the student wants to buy a laptop from Apple Educational store website. The default browser in all the machines in my University was Internet Explorer (IE) version 7 and the other available browsers in the machines are Firefox 3 and Netscape 7.

Student came to me saying that when he tries to open the Educational store page from Apple website, it diplayed a message saying that "Un-authorized access" (Cheked as well...). However, when I tried to open the same web page through Firefox 3, it works fine....

I couldn't understand what's wrong going on with IE........ I am wondering whether IE 7.0 is rubbish or the techi guys in my University didn't do proper setting? But what it says inside me is.......... IE is not up to the standard..............

It's not only the problem with Apple Educational store website opening page... but they are some other serious issues with IE... in my University they used Microsoft Sharepoint Server for all the staff-student interactions.. but even through it is the product from Microsoft it runs bad in IE.. sometimes, the web page never opens itself but it is exactly opposite with Firefox 3... which been working perfectly...

Bad UI example...

To support the point what I said in my previous post about Microsoft bad user interface... here I give a reason for it... When I installed IE 8 (use it very rarely) few weeks before.. I found that when you type any URL address in IE 8.. it will display the main address visible very much and the root of it in the light visible way.. For e.g. if you visit BBC home page from IE8 it will display the URL something like this.. "http://www.bbc.co.uk/?ok"

However in new Google chrome it will display the URL in the following fashion.. "http://www.bbc.co.uk/?ok"

From the user percespective the later one is very much likeable....

Therefore, eventhorough the idea is from Microsoft they produce bad user interface (UI) design....

One more thing, which I noticed with Google chrome is that it sets your local country dictionary language by default. Because with Firefox when I installed the local English dictionary language was US whereas with this Google chrome it is UK... :-)

Microsoft down because of bad UI

Few years before during my Bachelor's degree... I was a very enthusiastic and passionate guy with Microsoft and shared about each and every technology stuff of Microsoft with my friends and staffs... especially about the .Net technology.... btw... suppose to mention.. been their as a Microsoft student champ (ambassador) for my college between 2003 and 2005.

Now, with the same passion when I think about Microsoft that what is going wrong with them.. the very 1st thing comes to my mind is that "their is nothing wrong with technical part but certainly many things going wrong because of bad user interface"...

They have one very common thing in all their products... making the web page or any application with more flashy (shinny blue color)... without thinking how users feel about that... May be it is their trademark colour for so many years... May be many like blue... certainly my favorite color is blue.. but when professionalism comes.. it is white (or any light color which not irritates my eye)... I strongly believe that is why Apple and Google stays ahead...

Most of the Apple or Google websites are very simple with black and white color interface and keeps rocking these days...

I read so many news about Microsoft that wants to buy other companies such as Yahoo for matching the Internet competition.. but I sincerely believe even if they buy majority of the Internet companies and continues developing great products with BAD USER INTERFACE... then certainly I don't think.. Microsoft stay in this internet competition world...

I hope Microsoft will come back strongly in coming days.. with the same old passion..........

Google Chrome or Google web browser

Great to hear this Google chrome news from the BBC blog news I am counting my days from today onwards to download this application from Google... I have full faith on Google that this application will satisfy more than what I am expecting from them... If you are a techie guy.. then you can read about the technology stuff about Google Chrome from here It is wonderful and I am impressed... it is the true open source application... because it is not just of free download but also because of sharing the great innovative idea....

My first thought after reading about this is that will Google chrome go for Guinness record for the maximum number of downloads in a single day???????? similar to what Firefox 3 done few months before....

iPhone review

Being an iPhone 3G user for about 2+ months.. I feel I understood much about it... Some of the great features that it offers to me are

1. Email check through wi-fi or 3G network
Usually before I sip my 1st cup of tea.. I switch on my laptop to check my emails... now it is even quicker.. while I am in bed.. I check my emails using iPhone... takes very less time... so actually I stopped opening my laptop in the mornings now... Saves lots of time...

2. Best Synchronization facility
I rarely used synchronization tool when I was using Nokia N73.. but now with iPhone I am using synchronization facility in a very enhanced manner from Music Sync to IE Bookmark Sync...

3. Easy Charge
Can charge easily while synchronizing... Hassle free....

4. Google map, Youtube, Web browsing, fantastic games, etc.,

This great device also has some bugs or bad features...

1. Bad signal...
Phone network signal is not so good... Even irritates some time... Because when I was using various Nokia mobile for the past so many years.. never felt having low signal... Certainly it is not the problem of network provider... something has to do with iPhone antenna...

2. Locks automatically...
When application is running.. the phone goes in the dark (light switched off) or keypad locked mode often... I believe it is because of bug.... or don't know whether it is the fault with my unique device... but I don't think so...

These two features really irritates me while using iPhone... hope next version of this 3G mobile will sort this problem... but not sure... whether I will stick with this mobile till then....

Synchronize tool

From the day when I start having an habit of keeping backup files on to both my Pen drive and External hard drive (as per my lecture advice).. I always do copy & paste of the files... Simple procedure that any novice will do like me... Sometimes, by mistake it happens that I forgot to copy some of the least important files to my backup devices... and in case when I need that any time later.. I usually end up searching all my three devices (Laptop Hard disk, pen drive & external hard disk) to find the one... I was following this procedure until recently my friend Felix has told me about the "Microsoft Sync Toy" tool.. it is awesome... very simple and easy to use.. no need to read any instruction for using this file... we just need to select the left and right side folders.. and the choosing the option for how we want to synchronize... i.e., either on both side or only on one side... rest the software takes care of everything what we want to achieve... Simple but very powerful tool... If you haven't tried this yet.. then you could probably want to do that now.... ;-)

Online backup

To my remembrance... first I started using pen drive, then external hard disk and then tried Microsoft skyDrive.. but it wasn't much user friendly... for eg. I can't select the entire folder option to do backup.. instead I have to select each files in the folder individually... things could have improved better now.... but i moved on to follow my own way... by keep emailing all the important files to my Gmail (Google mail) inbox... since they support lengthy files as well.... Future belongs to online.. therefore, online backup software's tools are coming along... such as like Novabackup, Titan, etc.,

I read the article in computer world (click here to read the article).. they said.. even through uploading takes longer time when compared to download speed of our internet.. it is worth keeping backup files in online.... They made the point.. it makes sense... so I start downloading the NovaBackup file.. thinking of to try the trial version....

File size was around 96MB.. (no worries.. it took less than 10mins to complete it with 8Mbps broadband speed)... and it's 15 days free trial period... signup is must to access the software... so I did created the new account.. but unfortunately they also want my credit card details to access this free 15 day trial period of 1GB storage space.. and there after it will cost $50/- for subscription for 10GB storage space...

I couldn't understand.. why they want me to provide credit card details for trying the free trial version... I prefer to test the software initially without giving any of my payment account details.. If I feel the software is effective enough... and then i would like to pay for their service but certainly not before...

Even though online backup software's are available for free download... It is not easily accessible.... :-(

Apple OS does CRASH

Old myth... "Apple Operating System doesn't crash".. I believed so till I find myself, my roommates laptop got crashed and lost all his data... My friend said, it has happened because of installing Mozilla firefox and system start performing slow after that...

Actually, he has shut down the system by forcing it... so the OS has crashed and asked to insert the disk to rectify the error... but it didn't worked out.. so took the laptop to the Apple service center.. but his luck didn't work.. he lost all his data from the hard disk... the guy has formated the system.. even then it didn't install the OS... finally they have replaced the hardisk to get back the laptop into the normal working condition....

May be the problem is with the hardisk... but what happened is, Apple Leopard OS has crashed... so no more saying that only Microsoft windows crashes all the time...

iPhone 3G

After the launch of iPhone about 1 year ago... now Apple ready to release the next version of it's... 3G technology phone... The interesting news is... it's going to cost £99/- (US $199/-) for the 8 GB phone... less than iPod Touch... which is currently being selling in the market for £199/-... so it's cheap also got better future than the present one... one more news is... it's going to realese in 70 countries at the same time on 11th of July... I am excited to get this new iPhone 3G version... a device which can be used as... a phone, interent and for listening to musics (like ipod)...

SEATTLE--Yahoo Inc said it introduced two new e-mail domains on Wednesday, allowing users to select new, simpler e-mail addresses ending in ymail.com and rocketmail.com.

The current yahoo.com Web-based e-mail service has more than 260 million users worldwide, so many new users must adopt elaborate addresses because simpler ones are unavailable.

E-mail accounts on ymail.com or rocketmail.com will have the same features available with yahoo.com addresses including unlimited storage, being able to instant message from within their e-mail inbox and spam and virus protection.

"People want an e-mail address that reflects who they are, whether they are signing up for an e-mail address for the first time, or simply updating their e-mail pseudonym to reflect the stage they are at in life," Yahoo Vice President John Kremer said in a statement.

Firefox 3

Firefox 3 has released 2 days before. The interesting thing in Firefox3 is not its feature but whether it's going to enter into Genius record book or not. Yes, Firefox3 has targeted for Genius book record on maximum number of users downloading the software in a day. I am waiting for result... when I last checked it was more than 8,00,00,000 members have downloaded the software.. In which, US had 4,218,326 download users, UK had 554, 525 and so on.. and India has 186, 024 users..... Let's see whether Firefox enters into Genius record book or not... another challenge for Microsoft IE... ;-) (but I am still the fan of Microsoft on .Net) To check the result click here....

Yups, it really sounds crazy now a days because of me talking more about Google product. But can't stop... Google continues rocking the Internet world. Ok coming to what "Google sites" has? it's nothing but the same feature that Microsoft front page or publisher through online in their own way...

I believe most of them tried using Microsoft Front page or Publisher to create their own website using some build in templates. It's the same way, Google does through online but the difference is, in Frontpage/Publisher you can view your website only in the stand alone computer whereas if you create the site using "Google site" then you actually own your domain name and can share it with anyone in the world. It won't take more than few minutes to create your own personalized website using "Google Site"... Try it on your own... http://sites.google.com/

Google Calendar

In the begining, I was using outlook express calendar for my day to day activities. It has very nice featues such as reminder service via Email and so on. Then, I moved on to use the same features through my Nokia mobile calendar. But unfortunately when my mobile got broke, I lost all my data. I didn't had any backup. By the time, when I gave my mobile for repair, I started using Google calendar. Now, almost for the past couple of months, I am using Google calendar, it has very advanced features such as import/export calendar from other places, multiple calendar entry, etc.,

The most amazing feature, I found on the Google Calendar is... SMS/Text reminder service. I registered my mobile number with Google and everyday an hour before, Google sends me the free Text message reminding about my event and also everyday morning, it sends me the event agenda for the day. To describe about this Google Calendar service shortly, I would say, it's Fantastic!
