When i read the latest article from The Star, minister vows to wipe out ah long menace, i was saying to myself, it is another talk and no action by the minister. Of late, loan shark in Malaysia is taking the spotlight. Loan shark or better known as ah long has been creating fear to the public. Those who borrow money from ah long, but couldn’t return is being tortured and even caged in toilets for weeks.

Many has been shouting and screaming their lungs out for the enforcers to take initiative to go after this ah long. Action will be taken but ah long business in Malaysia will never diminish.

Here are the reasons why ah long activities are here to stay in Malaysia :-

Supply and demand

There are many poor and desperate people out there. Some need money to feed families, while some need money to satisfy their pleasure. So when there is high demand for something, the supply will always be there.

Easy to borrow

With just an IC or thumb print, money will be given out. Isn’t that easy?

Stringent bank laws

As we know, it is never easy to get a loan from a bank unless you have a good reason or a collateral for your loans. Loads of paper work need to be done and completed before the bank will be able to process your loan

Faster approval

With ah long, you just need less then an hour to get your loan. With banks, it might take weeks or worst months. Can people wait that long when they are in need of cash?

High return and fast money

It is one of the fastest ways to make money. Imagine if you loan RM 1000 from the loan shark, they will only give you RM 800. Not only that, the interest will come out to 200 to 300% per year if you are not able to pay.

Conclusion

Minister want to wipe out ah long? Tell that minister to dream long long. They can never wipe out the ah longs as they are here to stay. I wouldn’t be surprise if some of our politicians are involved in this kind of illegal business.

No matter what you do, never even borrow money from the ah long as their interest rates will kill you. Borrow from friends, family or others but say no to ah long.

Our government seems to be quite generous of late. Permodalan National Bhd (PNB) will offer the remaining 1.6 billion Amanah Saham Malaysia (ASM) units for Malaysians. Those interested can start subscribing to ASM beginning from July 21st 2009.

Will there be limit?

All account holders will be entitled to 20000 units maximum from 21-27 July 2009. The limit will be void after the offer period.

Worrying fact about ASM

Latest ASM report states that 296 individuals is holding a massive 264 million units. Average of 893068 units per person. I am wondering how did they get hold of so many units?

Banks reserving units for clients

It might not pay if you go early to ASM counters to purchase units as some reports states that banks reserved certain amount units for the “special” clients. That’s why all units are sold out in a nick of time. In short, that’s cheating.

Never below then 5%

If i am not wrong, from the day ASM was launched, the return from this unit trust has not gone below 5%. So it’s a good way to diversify our portfolio to out do FD or even EPF.

Once again, get your cheque books ready for this. I am sure there will be long queue at counters for ASM. Good luck for those queuing for this fund.

Pleasant surprise to those unit trust lovers. Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib has agreed to Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) to establish a new unit trust fund, Amanah Saham 1Malaysia (AS1M).

The size of the fund will be at RM 10 billion and it is open to all Malaysians aged 18 and above. This fund is launch in celebrating our PM’s 100 days in office.

A good way to start

For those looking for higher returns compared to fixed deposit, Amanah Saham 1Malaysia might just be the right tonic for you to diversify on your investment portfolio.

Will i invest?

It has been a long time since i put any money into any PNB products. Maybe because at the moment the returns given by them are not attractive enough to me. Greedy…

Term of investment

Usually PNB products are mainly catered for medium to long term investors with an average of 5% to 10% return per annum. Mind you, it’s not guaranteed.

Get your alarm clock and cheque books ready as i am pretty sure the queue will be long for this new fund. You wouldn’t want to miss on this golden opportunity to invest on something which is better then our current FD rate.

Once again, our Education ministers did another flip flop on their education policies. Teaching maths and science is going to be revert back to Bahasa Malaysia. The main reason for the change is because they didn’t achieve their objective. Maths and science started using English in year 2003.

Short time frame

After 6 years of experiment, the government has changed their mind just like that to revert back teaching maths and science to Bahasa Malaysia. More time should be given on this matter as Rome wasn’t build in 6 years as well.

Political reasons

I guess the government made the decision so quickly due to political reasons as they are feeling the heat on loosing the 2/3 majority in the last election.

Why make the students suffer?

Students in SRJKC and SRJKT have to study maths and science in their mother language. When they go to secondary school they have to revert to Bahasa Malaysia. In University they have to use English. What the hell? Why can’t just concentrate on one?

Where has the money gone?

One of the reason for the change is due to lack of teachers having good command in english to teach students. Educate the teachers and send them for courses to improve their english. You can burn 12.6 billion in PKFZ scandal why not use the money for better purpose like education?

Never walk the talk

We always hear our ministers stating Malaysia have world class universities and education system. Then why send your children to overseas when you have “World Class” education and universities in Malaysia?

Malaysia government giving free education

My topic might have given you a shock but it’s a fact. Malaysia like to nurture smart and brilliant students but giving them away mainly to Singapore and other parts of the world. Have a deeper thought then you will get what i mean.

Conclusion

All in all i am quite disappointed with the change but what can we do. Let’s look at the bright side of things. Mastering English is important as it’s a global language but at least we can say most Malaysians have better English command compared to people in Japan, Russia, Germany and so on. That does not mean we are smarter then them.

Foreigners are running away from Malaysia. They don’t seem interested to put their money in Malaysia. A drop of more then 90% of direct investment so far this year from January to May 2009.

In 2008, Malaysia had a RM 46 billion foreign direct investment while this 5 months only a mere RM 4.2 billion seen. This is a worrying figure as this shows how strong and capable our economy in facing the global financial problems.

I guess this figures are really sending the shivers down our PM’s (Najib) neck. Najib was “kind” in revoking the 30% equity requirement for bumiputras in public listed companies. Now we know why he has to do that.

To be honest, i think this bold step should have been taken 20 years ago during Mahatir’s time as PM and not only now. Malaysia is taking those foreign investors for a ride. It is just like when the time is good, you forget about us (foreign investors) and now when you are in deep shit, you expect us to come and support you?

AIG stock tumbles almost 20 percent ater a 1 for 20 reverse stock split by AIG. It really send negative waves as investors threw their AIG shares causing AIG to go down $4.53 or 19.5%. So brother Loke are you worried?

How does the split works?

Before split = 1000 shares
After split = 50 shares

1000/20 = 50 (1:20)

Basically i have 1000 shares of AIG bought at $1.28. Now will only have 50 shares as the stock has split into 20. To breakeven, i need to wait for my AIG stock to be :-

$1.28 x 20 = $25.60

What will i do?

To be honest i will just keep my AIG stocks under my pillow as i am confident it will not die.

Why i am confident?

Up till today, the US government owns 80% of AIG. So if the US government have the balls to own 80% of AIG and let it die, then i wont mind letting my 50 shares of AIG to burn. US government titanic ship sink, what is my small little boat compared to titanic? Show me your guts if you really have it to close down AIG.

Conclusion

I will just leave my AIG aside and watch more drama unfold but the bottom line i am still confident about AIG future prospect. It is a too big company to just let it die off. So brother Loke, do you share the same optimism as me?

As we all mourned the death of the King of Pop Michael Jackson, many will be asking about what is the cause of death of Michael Jackson.

Demerol is basically equivalent to morphine. The use of Demerol is to relief moderate severe pain and at times used during a surgical procedure to enhance the effects of the anesthesia.

Demerol is used to provide euphoria making the patient not care about their pain anymore. Patients will essentially get high off the usage of Demerol.

Patients on Demerol for chronic pain often then not become addicted and will require more and more of the drug.

Michael Jackson had been rehearsing hard for a 50 date concert residency at the O2 arena in London starting 13th July 2009. Might be due to the stress and the age of MJ, the overused of Demerol might be the cause of MJ’s sudden death due to cardiac arrest.

We can never question the effort and commitment shown by MJ as he is preparing for his comeback. I am pretty sure MJ wouldn’t want to disappoint his fans for his opening concert in UK.

MJ will be missed as i still remember when i was a 13 year old kid i bought an original cassette of his History Album. I had to save for quite sometime for that History album but i felt happy and satisfied having that album.

Black and white, You are not alone, Earth song, Billy Jean are some of my favorite Michael Jackson’s song. Let’s all hold hand in hand as one to pray for a better world as that is that MJ always wanted. RIP MJ, the one and only King of Pop!

RCE Capital Berhad (RCECAP) listen on the mainboard with a stock quote of 9296 is under trading/services sector. Rcecap core business is consumer financing in the form of personal loan to government servants.

The super main advantage about Rcecap is the repayments of loan are done by salary deduction scheme. The loan will be deducted on a monthly basis.

In short, rcecap will not have a high percentage non performing loan (NPL) problems.

The reasons why i invested in Rcecap :-

Improved 4th quarter profit from 12.627 million to 18.513 million

PE at 6.03

Volume picking up

Positive outlook for future earnings

EPS increased for 4th quarter comparing 2007 and 2008 (1.95 to 2.60)

From my attachment above, i have bought 5000 shares of Rcecap at RM 0.565. As you all notice, the method i use to pick shares to invest is quite simple and most importantly i am comfortable with it.

Like what the great Warren Buffet says, you don’t need high IQ to invest in shares but patience and temperament will be ample for success in investing.
