JAKARTA, 21 September 2026 – Budi Luhur University student-athlete Rajiah “Centang” Sallsabillah, a member of the university’s MAKOPALA student outdoor organisation, has won a silver medal at the World Climbing Series Chongqing 2026.

Competing alongside Kadek Adi Asih, Rajiah finished second in the Women’s Speed Relay. The result marks another international achievement for an Indonesian athlete and reflects the discipline, consistency and competitive resilience required to perform on the world stage.

For Budi Luhur University, international competition is not viewed solely in terms of medals. It is also a valuable learning environment in which students develop mental strength, sportsmanship, adaptability, confidence and the ability to perform under pressure.

JAKARTA, 27 August 2026 – Budi Luhur University is strengthening its contribution to Indonesia’s blue economy by promoting an approach that combines innovation, technology and environmental sustainability. The university brought together Indonesian and international academic perspectives through the forum “Innovation and Sustainability in Indonesia’s Smart Blue Economy,” focusing on how research can be translated into practical solutions for marine and coastal development.

For Indonesia, one of the world’s largest archipelagic countries, the blue economy represents more than the commercial use of marine resources. Its long-term value depends on the ability to create economic opportunities while maintaining healthy ecosystems, strengthening human capital and ensuring that technological progress responds to the needs of coastal communities.

Rector of Budi Luhur University, Agus Setyo Budi, emphasised that universities have a responsibility to ensure that research and innovation generate measurable benefits beyond the academic environment.

“Universities have an important role in producing research and innovation that respond to real societal needs. Technology should not stop at the research stage; it should be developed into solutions that create economic and social value while safeguarding environmental sustainability,” Agus Setyo Budi said.

The smart blue economy approach can support more efficient marine-resource management, strengthen fisheries productivity, improve environmental monitoring and create new economic opportunities for coastal communities. The use of data, digital technology and applied research can also support better-informed decisions while reducing pressure on marine ecosystems.

The forum also featured Wang Yong of Jiangsu Ocean University, China, who shared an international perspective on the importance of connecting technological innovation with sustainability in the development of the blue economy.

“Innovation and sustainability need to develop together. Technology can create new economic opportunities, but its development must also take into account the sustainability of marine resources and the long-term benefits for society,” Wang Yong said.

The discussion underscored that sustainable marine development requires collaboration across disciplines and institutions. International academic partnerships can accelerate knowledge exchange, joint research and the development of technologies that are better adapted to local social, economic and environmental conditions.

Tangerang, August 26, 2026 – A total of 40 students from Budi Luhur University (BLU) gained firsthand exposure to Indonesia’s digital ecosystem by participating in the launch of Garuda Spark Innovation Hub (GSIH) BSD, organized by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia through the Directorate of Digital Ecosystem Development under the Directorate General of Digital Ecosystem.

Held at the Biomedical Campus BSD City in Tangerang, the event carried the theme “From Spark to Impact – Indonesia’s Global Gateway for the Digital Ecosystem.”

The event provided Budi Luhur University students with direct opportunities to interact with government officials, practitioners, industry professionals, startups, digital talents, and other key stakeholders within Indonesia’s innovation ecosystem.

For the students, the program went beyond an off-campus visit. It offered a real-world learning experience that allowed them to understand how government institutions, industries, startups, academia, investors, and communities collaborate to accelerate Indonesia’s digital transformation.

Students also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with professionals, gain insights into emerging startups and the digital industry, expand their professional networks, and experience various technological innovations showcased at the event.

One of the participating students, Duvina, said the experience gave her a new perspective on technology and the professional world.

“For me, this was a new experience because we were able to exchange ideas directly with practitioners and government officials attending the event. We also gained many valuable insights from innovative startups. One of the most exciting parts was being able to experience the technologies firsthand, including robotics and artificial intelligence showcased at the venue,” said Duvina, a student at Budi Luhur University.

The experience provided students with a clearer understanding of how professional competencies are evolving alongside rapid technological development. Rather than learning solely through academic theory, students were able to observe how innovations are developed, introduced, and implemented in real-world settings.

Garuda Spark Innovation Hub was developed by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs as a collaborative platform connecting startups, digital talents, industries, academia, investors, government institutions, and communities.

Through its Hub & Spoke concept, Garuda Spark aims to broaden access to knowledge, networks, technology, investment, and markets for talents and innovators across various regions, while strengthening connectivity between Indonesia’s central and regional digital ecosystems.

Garuda Spark Innovation Hub BSD is also positioned as a global gateway connecting Indonesian innovation with international networks and markets.

The collaboration focuses on how research, technology, and international knowledge exchange can help address real-world development challenges, including food security, fisheries supply-chain efficiency, low-carbon economic activity, environmental sustainability, and inclusive social development.

One of the research areas highlighted is IoT-Based Cold Storage for the Fisheries Sector. By using Internet of Things technology to monitor storage conditions more effectively, cold-chain systems can help maintain product quality, reduce spoilage risk, and improve efficiency from post-harvest handling through distribution.

For fishers, businesses, distributors, and consumers, these improvements can translate into more reliable product quality, reduced economic losses, stronger supply-chain resilience, and better protection of the value of fisheries products. In the longer term, technology-enabled cold storage can also contribute to food security by helping more products reach markets in suitable condition.

Jakarta, September 21, 2026 – Budi Luhur University continues to strengthen its research and community engagement ecosystem by encouraging academic work that goes beyond publication and delivers tangible benefits to society.

This commitment was highlighted during the Socialization of Research and Community Service Implementation for the 2026–2027 Odd Semester, organized by the Directorate of Research and Community Service at Budi Luhur University.

Over the past three semesters, Budi Luhur University recorded 194 research projects supported by approximately IDR 2.305 billion in internal funding, along with 96 community service programs worth IDR 548 million. In total, 290 research and community service projects received approximately IDR 2.853 billion in internal funding.

The university has also expanded its research capacity through external grants. A total of 56 research projects received approximately IDR 5.566 billion in external funding, while 48 community service programs received approximately IDR 2.591 billion. In addition, 17 research projects secured support from other funding sources, including IEEE, KONEKSI, and UNESCO, with a combined value of approximately IDR 2.862 billion.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Prudensius Maring, M.A., Director of Research and Community Service at Budi Luhur University, emphasized that university research should be directed toward addressing real challenges faced by communities.

“Research and community service should respond to real-world issues. We therefore encourage research outcomes to go beyond academic publications and develop into innovations, solutions, collaborations, and programs that create meaningful benefits for society,” said Prudensius Maring.

He added that research impact can be generated across a wide range of areas, including technology adoption, literacy improvement, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, social development, governance, and environmental problem-solving.

The university’s research development is guided by the Research and Community Service Master Plan 2025–2029, which identifies six strategic focus areas: digital transformation, artificial intelligence and smart technologies; entrepreneurship, economics and sustainable governance; communication, culture, creativity and social transformation; global governance, security, justice and social resilience; technology, environment, infrastructure and sustainable development; and ethics, human-centered innovation, and the values of kebudiluhuran.

Budi Luhur University also promotes stronger integration between research and community service. Through this approach, research findings are expected not only to remain in academic journals or reports, but also to be translated into mentoring programs, education initiatives, community empowerment, social innovation, and practical technological applications.

Under its 2025–2029 roadmap, the university is developing its research ecosystem in stages, beginning with institutional strengthening and consolidation, followed by capacity development and collaboration, acceleration of research and innovation, and ultimately commercialization, broader impact, and recognition.
