For over 20 years, Ameer Shalaby served at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) - retiring in 2022 as a Senior Operations Officer. Ameer completed multiple overseas tours in the Near East, Africa, South Asia and Latin America during which he held significant leadership positions as a Chief of Station and Chief of Base responsible for managing the US government’s relationships with foreign partners. He led small and large teams, as well as managed multi-million-dollar budgets and infrastructure both in the foreign field and at CIA Headquarters.

Ameer is a seasoned human intelligence professional with extensive experience in developing, conducting and leading foreign intelligence collection, as well as counterintelligence, counterterrorism and covert action operations across the world. He is also a decorated veteran of three wars in the Near East.

Over the course of his 30 years in public service, he had the privilege of serving as the CIA Representative to the Interagency Hostage Recovery Fusion Cell and as a Staff Member on the United States Senate’s Select Committee on Intelligence.

Ameer is a subject matter expert and mentor regularly sought out to provide intelligence and other tradecraft instruction, solutions and advice. He is also a former United States Marine, a dedicated husband and proud father.

J.D. Pitts lived and worked for 15 years in Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Sudan, Yemen, and Mauritania. While there, his professional experience included both the education and business sectors, as well as over a decade of deep involvement in humanitarian aid work ranging from small, grassroots operations to large-scale, UN-managed operations.

J.D. acquired additional expertise in Islamic jihadist ideology and the interconnectedness of poverty and violent extremism from living and operating for years in Hamas-controlled Palestinian refugee camps, Muslim Brotherhood-dominated slums, and other Salafi-inspired communities — areas that are breeding grounds and safe-havens for terrorist organizations. His street-level knowledge of how terrorist organizations work and think, and what their objectives and tactics are, allows him to provide real-world, practical solutions to individuals and teams whose mission takes them into areas where terrorist organizations are active.

J.D. has academic degrees in Arab and Islamic studies, is proficient in multiple dialects of Arabic, and has successfully been training and advising expatriates relocating to and working in the Middle East and North Africa region since the early 2000's. His diversified work experience across multiple sectors, intimate knowledge and deep understanding of Arab and Islamic culture, and proven track record of overcoming the challenges of living in a new country and culture in order to thrive professionally and personally uniquely qualify him to advise and perform cross-cultural training in ways very few others can.

Originally from Northeast Tennessee, J.D. is equally happy and at home in large Middle Eastern capitals, small town Appalachia, and on the North Carolina coast where he and his family currently reside.
