UNNES students, are you one of those who still think that Economics is exactly the same as Management or Accounting? Wow, if so, you really need to get to know it better!

In fact, Economics has a much broader and more fundamental scope of analysis. While Accounting focuses on a company’s financial records and Management handles business operations, Economics studies the “big picture.” You’ll learn how individuals, companies, and even entire nations allocate limited resources.

In this major, you’ll be trained to think critically, analyze empirical data, and dissect both macroeconomic and microeconomic phenomena. Thanks to its high-level analytical skills, the career prospects for Economics graduates span a wide range of strategic sectors.

Career Prospects for Economics Majors

Curious about what kind of job you might get? Let’s take a look at the prestigious career prospects awaiting Economics graduates:

1. Economic Analyst

This is the most straightforward career path for you, UNNES Friends! Economic analysts are responsible for monitoring macroeconomic indicators, researching market trends, and forecasting future economic conditions. This role is crucial at central banks (such as Bank Indonesia), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and top investment firms. Their analyses determine interest rate fluctuations and major investment strategies.

2. Public Policy Analyst

Interested in government issues? Economics graduates have a strong foundation to work in this sector. You can build a career at Bappenas, the Ministry of Finance, or local government agencies. The main tasks involve formulating and evaluating public policies such as tax regulations, fuel subsidies, and poverty alleviation programs.

3. Credit & Risk Analyst

The banking sector and financial institutions are always on the lookout for economics graduates to fill risk analyst positions. Your role here is to assess the financial viability of a large company seeking a loan. Armed with knowledge of business cycles, you can predict the likelihood of loan default amid fluctuating economic conditions.

4. Business and Strategy Consultant

Multinational companies looking to open branches in new countries or regions certainly don’t want to lose money, right? Well, they need business consultants to assess economic viability, consumer purchasing power, and the economic stability of the region. As an Economics graduate, you possess the perfect analytical framework to provide strategic recommendations to top executives!

5. Economic Researcher at a Think Tank

For UNNES students who are truly passionate about research, becoming a researcher at an independent think tank is a source of pride. In Indonesia, there are many prestigious institutions such as CSIS, SMERU, or INDEF. Here, you’ll enjoy publishing journals, conducting economic studies, and providing independent input to the government or even organizations like the World Bank!

Sharpen Your Economic Analysis Skills with UNNES!

UNNES Friends, the ability to anticipate economic trends can never be replaced by robots or AI. That’s why earning a degree in this field is an exceptional investment in your future.

For those of you who are interested, Universitas Semarang (UNNES) offers a program that’s perfectly aligned with this field: the Bachelor of Development Economics under the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). This program is accredited as “Excellent” and features a curriculum closely tied to research, public policy, and digital economic trends.

Especially since it’s already early April. Registration for the 2026 UTBK-SNBT will close very soon on April 7, 2026! You only have one week left, UNNES Friends.

Come on, finalize your registration now, and make UNNES’s Development Economics your top choice!

In today’s digital economy, the saying that data is the “new oil” isn’t just a figure of speech.

Just as crude oil became the most valuable commodity and drove industry in the 20th century, data has now emerged as the primary driver behind technological innovation, the development of artificial intelligence (AI), and global economic growth. However, much like crude oil, a collection of data holds no economic value unless it is properly analyzed and processed.

This is where the role of statistics becomes crucial. Global corporations, startups, and government agencies now heavily rely on data analysis to formulate strategies and make data-driven business decisions.

This situation is what makes the prospects for a degree in statistics increasingly broad and promising. Statistics graduates play a strategic role in transforming raw information into comprehensive insights. Expertise in probability modeling and processing Big Data gives graduates of this program a very high market value in the professional job market.

Career Prospects for the Statistics Major

Curious about the career options? Here are the strategic career opportunities awaiting graduates of the Statistics program in the data era:

1. Data Scientist & Data Analyst

UNNES friends, nearly every industry sector—especially technology and banking companies—is in high demand for these roles. Primary responsibilities include collecting, cleaning, and analyzing Big Data to identify market trends. A Data Scientist focuses on developing predictive algorithms and machine learning, while a Data Analyst focuses more on data visualization and interpretation for daily performance evaluation.

2. Actuary (Actuary)

Have you heard of this prestigious profession? Actuaries are professionals who typically work in the insurance industry, pension funds, or financial consulting firms. Their primary tasks involve analyzing financial risks using mathematical and statistical theories, such as determining premium structures and the probability of future claims. This profession requires specialized certification and is recognized for offering highly competitive compensation in Indonesia!

3. Market Research Analyst

Before launching a new product or marketing campaign, a company naturally needs comprehensive research to minimize the risk of loss. Market research analysts are responsible for surveying target consumers, analyzing competitor data, and mapping market acceptance potential. Statistics graduates have a competitive edge in this role thanks to their mastery of sampling methodologies and the design of statistically valid questionnaires.

4. Government Statistician (Statistician)

For those seeking stability, the career prospects for statistics majors are also very promising in the public service sector. Various agencies, such as the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Bank Indonesia, and the Ministry of Finance, regularly recruit statisticians. This role is essential in compiling economic indicators, conducting demographic censuses, and projecting national growth as the basis for public policy-making.

5. Quality Control & Assurance Analyst

In the manufacturing industry (such as automotive, pharmaceutical, and FMCG), product quality must always be maintained according to standards. Statistics graduates will apply statistical quality control methods to efficiently sample production. These methods ensure that defect rates can be identified and minimized without having to manually inspect every single product.

Building a Career as a Data Professional with UNNES

Dear UNNES Friends, given its crucial career prospects across various sectors, Statistics is a highly strategic program of study. Analytical and computational skills will continue to be core competencies sought after by industry in the future.

To meet these industry needs, Universitas Semarang (UNNES), through the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), offers degree programs focused on mastering data analytics: the Bachelor of Statistics and Data Science, and the Associate Degree in Applied Statistics and Computing.

Supported by state-of-the-art computing laboratories and a curriculum that adapts to technological advancements, UNNES is committed to equipping its students with competencies aligned with the demands of the job market.

Choose UNNES’s statistics programs to build your professional career!

Hey, future UNNES students! When you hear the words “Biology Education,” the first thing that probably comes to mind is a teacher standing in front of a class explaining human anatomy or photosynthesis.

While it’s true that producing top-tier science educators is the primary goal of this program, did you know that the career prospects for Biology Education go far beyond the four walls of a formal classroom?

Career Prospects for Biology Education

If you love biological sciences and have a passion for sharing knowledge, this major offers a incredibly dynamic career map. Let’s break down the promising opportunities waiting for you:

1. Biology and Science Teacher (Public & Private Sectors)

This is the most direct and prestigious path. The demand for competent science teachers never fades. With a Bachelor of Education (S.Pd.) degree, you hold a “golden ticket” for civil service selection (CPNS/PPPK) or careers in national and international private schools.

2. Subject Matter Expert (SME) in EdTech Companies

The rise of Education Technology (EdTech) has created exciting new roles. Education startups need Biology Education graduates to serve as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) or Instructional Designers. Your job is to design curriculum, write scripts for educational videos, and develop interactive biology question banks.

3. Science Education Researcher

If you enjoy analyzing data and finding more effective ways to learn, working as a research assistant or a curriculum developer in educational research institutes is a great choice. You’ll contribute to shaping national science education policies and teaching modules.

4. Edupreneur and Educational Content Creator

Hey, future UNNES students! Becoming a doctor is a noble dream that requires extraordinary effort. The Faculty of Medicine (FK) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has quickly become a top destination for students looking to serve in the healthcare field.

However, high interest means intense competition. If you’re aiming for a seat in UNNES Medicine, understanding the admission capacity is your first strategic move before heading into battle.

UNNES Medicine School Capacity in 2026

Hey, future UNNES students! In this era of globalization, mastering an international language is a massive advantage. If you’re passionate about English, the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) is likely at the top of your list.

However, a classic question often pops up: “Should I go for the Education track or the Literature track?”

At a glance, both involve studying English. However, the core focus and your future career trajectory are quite different. Let’s break down the comparison: English Education vs. English Literature.

1. Core Focus

The most fundamental difference lies in the intended “output” or the goal of the student.

English Education: The primary focus is on how to teach English to others. You aren’t just expected to be fluent; you must also understand student psychology, effective teaching methods, and classroom management.

English Literature: You will focus on analyzing the language itself as a science, an art form, and a culture. You’ll dive into the mechanics of linguistics (language structure) and dissect literary works like poetry, prose, and drama.

2. What Will You Study?

Education Track: Along with basic skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing), you’ll take many “pedagogy” courses. Examples include: Microteaching (teaching practice), TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), Curriculum Design, and Learning Evaluation.

Literature Track: The curriculum is more theoretical and analytical. You’ll encounter “pure” language subjects like Phonology (sound systems), Syntax (sentence structure), Translation, Literary Criticism, and the History of American/British Popular Culture.

3. Academic Degrees

Graduates of the Education track earn an S.Pd. (Sarjana Pendidikan).

Graduates of the Literature track earn an S.S. (Sarjana Sastra).

4. Career Prospects: Educator vs. Industry Practitioner

Education Prospects: The primary path is becoming a Teacher (Civil Servant/PPPK/International Schools), Lecturer, Instructional Designer, or starting your own English language center (Edupreneur).

Literature Prospects: The scope is very broad, leaning toward creative industries, media, and multinational corporations. Literature graduates are highly sought after as Translators/Interpreters, Copywriters, Content Writers, Editors, Diplomatic Staff, or Public Relations specialists.

Which One Is the Right Fit for You?

Choose the Education track if you have a strong social spirit, love sharing knowledge, and have the patience to guide others.

On the other hand, choose the Literature track if you love reading classics, enjoy analyzing texts, like writing, and are interested in working “behind the scenes” in creative or corporate industries.

Whichever You Choose, UNNES Is the Place to Be

Whether you go for Education or Literature, both are brilliant choices at the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Universitas Negeri Semarang. Both programs hold an “Unggul” (Excellent) Accreditation, ensuring top-tier quality recognized nationally and internationally.

UNNES provides students with massive networking opportunities for internships, student exchanges, and collaborative research:

English Education: A massive network with 27 domestic partners, 26 international partners, and 10 industrial partners.

English Literature: Growing rapidly with 15 domestic partners, 5 international partners, and 5 industrial partners.

To sharpen your skills, both programs are backed by modern facilities, including Multimedia Labs, Listening Labs, a Self-Access Centre, and a Theater & Performance Lab.

Campus life is far from boring! FBS UNNES regularly hosts exciting events like Drama Performances and communities like the IELTS & Scholarship Hunters.

So, are you confident in your choice? Keep sharpening your literacy skills and get ready to secure your seat through the UTBK-SNBT or Independent Selection (SM-UNNES)!

Hey, future UNNES students! The report-card-based selection (SNBP) is officially over. Now, it’s time to shift all your focus, energy, and strategy toward the real “battlefield”: UTBK-SNBT 2026.

Unlike the merit-based track that relies on your past grades, the SNBT track is a pure test of your analytical skills and real-time logic in front of a computer screen. To survive the intense competition, especially at a top-tier campus like Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), you need to know exactly what kind of “opponent” you’re facing.

Breaking Down the UTBK SNBT 2026 Subtests

Based on the official guidelines, let’s look at the exam structure, sample question types, and the portfolio requirements you need to start preparing right now!

1. Scholastic Aptitude Test (TPS)

The written exam is divided into two major components: Scholastic Aptitude and Literacy. Both are designed to measure the fundamental cognitive abilities needed for university-level success.

The TPS doesn’t test your memory of school subjects like History or Biology. Instead, it tests how well your logic works. The subtests include:

General Reasoning: Tests your ability to solve new problems based on provided info.

Sample: A paragraph on the cause-and-effect of a social phenomenon (e.g., pollution vs. public transport). You’ll be asked which statement is “definitely true” or “most likely false” based only on the text.

General Knowledge and Understanding: Measures basic cognitive insight.

Sample: You’ll read a passage and be asked about the meaning of specific words, synonyms, or the main idea of a paragraph.

Reading and Writing Comprehension: Tests your ability to digest text structure and grammar.

Sample: This covers spelling, capitalization, and formal word usage. For example: “Which sentence should be removed to make the paragraph flow perfectly?”

Quantitative Knowledge: Focuses on math logic, sequences, and basic calculations.

Sample: If $x^2 – y^2 = 12$ and $x – y = 2$, what is $x + y$? This uses the logic of “difference of squares,” not complex calculator-heavy math.

2. Literacy Tests

This section requires strong reading stamina, high accuracy, and context comprehension. It consists of:

Indonesian Language Literacy: Analyzing complex Indonesian texts, usually from journal articles, news, or scientific essays. You must extract the author’s opinion or summarize the core message.

English Language Literacy: Extracting core and implied information from English texts. You’ll need to identify the main idea, author’s purpose, or the tone of the text.

Mathematical Reasoning: Applying math concepts to solve everyday problems (word problems).

Sample: A bar chart shows rice harvests across five villages. If the selling price is Rp 5,000/kg and Village A’s operating cost is 10%, what is Village A’s net profit? This combines chart reading with basic math.

Portfolio Requirements (Arts & Sports Majors)

For those applying to Arts or Sports programs, a good written score isn’t enough! You are required to upload a portfolio (work samples or physical performance videos).

Here are the 11 portfolio categories for SNBT 2026:

Sports

Fine Arts, Design, and Craft

Dance

Music

Traditional Music (Karawitan)

Ethnomusicology

Theater

Photography

Film & Television

Puppetry (Pedalangan)

Performing Arts Education (Sendratasik)

Pro-Tips for UTBK-SNBT 2026

Since these tests focus on reasoning, “cramming” the night before won’t work. Here is your game plan:

Practice with a Timer: Time is your biggest enemy. Aim to finish each question in 1 to 1.5 minutes so you don’t run out of time at the end.

Read Long-Form Articles: Since three subtests involve heavy reading, get used to scientific articles or news reports to build your focus.

Follow Portfolio Guidelines: If your major requires a portfolio, check the official SNPMB website and start recording/creating now. Don’t rush a last-minute video!

Get ready to claim your seat at your dream campus. For official info on capacity and study programs, visit the Universitas Negeri Semarang website!

When applying to the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), two programs consistently fight for the top spot in popularity: Management vs. Accounting.

Both study the world of business and finance, and both promise brilliant career paths. This often leaves applicants in a state of total confusion. “Which one should I pick? Which one pays better or gets me hired faster?”

To make sure you don’t make a move you’ll regret later, let’s break down the ultimate comparison: Management vs. Accounting.

The Core Focus: The Driver vs. The Analyst

The most fundamental difference between these two majors lies in how they view a company.

In Management, you learn the “big picture” of a business organization. Your focus is on planning, managing, and leading resources, people, money, time, and marketing strategies to hit the company’s goals.

In Accounting, you learn the specific “language of business.” Your focus is on recording, classifying, analyzing, and reporting every financial transaction. Accounting students are trained to read the “health” of a company through numbers.

Can a Management Graduate Become an Accountant?

This is a very common question, and the general answer is No.

While Management students (especially those concentrating in Financial Management) learn the basics of financial statements, the depth of study isn’t enough to meet professional accounting standards.

To become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a licensed external auditor, you must hold an Accounting degree and complete the Professional Accountant Education (PPAk). If your dream is to work for a “Big Four” firm (PwC, EY, Deloitte, KPMG), Accounting is a must.

Is Management the Right Fit for You?

Because the field is broad and dynamic, a Management major is perfect for you if you have these traits:

Strong Communication Skills: You enjoy interacting, negotiating, and working in teams.

Strategic and Flexible Thinker: You like looking at problems from different angles and finding solutions that adapt to market changes.

Leadership Potential: You aren’t afraid to make decisions, delegate tasks, and motivate others.

Business Savvy: You’re interested in marketing trends, product development, and Human Resources (HRD).

On the flip side, if you are highly meticulous, detail-oriented, enjoy structured routines, and love solving problems through precise data and numbers, Accounting will be a much better fit.

Which Path Is Better for Your Career?

Both are equally rewarding. Accounting graduates have high “market value” because of their specific technical expertise (like tax and accounting standards), making their roles very hard to replace.

Meanwhile, Management graduates enjoy incredible career flexibility. You can enter almost any corporate division: Marketing Manager, HRD, Operations Manager, Business Consultant, or even start your own business as an Entrepreneur.

Build Your Business Career with FEB UNNES!
