Finding Gold at Bujang Valley

Hi,

On 6th and 7th under the Musseum Volunteer's year end program we went to Lenggong and Bujang Valley. A total of about 15 participants in 4 vehicles drove from Museum to Lenggong. We started at about 6:00am in the morning.

We arrived at Lenggong at about 10:00am (4 hours drive without stopping).

We were welcome by Shaiful, May and Khairul of USM at Lenggong town. After taking our breakfast we proceeded to Lenggong Musseum where were given a tour by Professor Mohktar of USM.

Thereafter we were shown Kota Tampan which is just nearby to the Mussuem. After a hearty lunch at Tasik Raban Resort, we proceeded to the residence of Perak Man. The climbing is easy and everyone managed to arrived at the cave safely after donating some blood to the leeches.

After Perak Man's cave or better known as Gua Tanah Runtuh, we return to Tasek Raban Resort to clean up, rest and waiting for dinner.

After dinner, stomach filled and body aching, we hit the bunk dreaming about Bujang Valley and her gold. The next day, 7th December 2011, early morning at 6:30am we frove to Bujang Valley at Merbok in upper Kedah.

We visited the Sungai Batu excavation sites and the Bujang Valley Musseum.

We meet many diggers including site consultant Tuan Haji.

Although we find no gold but we found the diggers.

After Bujang Valley Musseum, we said good bye and drove home, with many memory of the ancient civilization living in the valley about 1 AD ago.

This year's Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon 2011 like before was held at Padang Merdeka on 26 June 2011.

I was selected as the director of the runners recovery station.

We have umbrella booths for all the categories.

In my team there is 140 volunteers. I'm glad we pull it off with little dificulty.

Not just any boat - not the tak-tak-tak-nak-smoke-belching type anyway, nor oceanliners - but small boats propelled by muscle, wind, and alright, a small, quiet outboard engine for last-resort use only. And, alright, another and, it has gotta be cheap, as in ... cheap. So, to sustain my interest, I headed out on my faithful Kriss 120 to Pulau Duyong again today. This is Haji Abdullah Muda the world famous boatbuilder of Pulau Duyong entertaining visitors at his boatyard. He is 75 and has been making boats for more than 50 years. That makes him an institution. Older and longer than any boat building school in the country if there is any. In America they would have erected something to honor him. Or make him a professor or something. Here they do too at least at the state level by giving him a contract to run a boatbuilding workshop including upgrading his workshop to what it looks today - yep, it looks the part, wasn't as impressive before of course. He does not smoke, has never been to hospital, and believes walking barefooted on sand and drinking daun pandan juice as a way to keep out of trouble. However he admits to having gout which he keeps under control by drinking the daun pandan juice. "I don't take pills because they are all drugs," he says dismissively. This is Dr Akbar Ali and his family from Ipoh looking over the boats. Inside one of the boats. Haji Abdullah regaling visitors with stories about his experience in boatbuilding. This perahu bedar is nearing completion at another boatyard not far from Hj Abdullah's boatyard. It belongs to the Terengganu state government. This one is built to the design of a Western sailing boat. It measures 60' x 20' x 10'. Such a boat takes about two years to build and costs about RM4 million on the road, er, ready to sail. This particular one is not for sale however. It belongs to the state government. Another Mercedes Kompressor syndrome in the making? Ah, these are the ones available for sale to the public. Don't be misled by the less than examplary showroom condition. Their reputation for durability and seaworthiness is known worldwide. The boats are solidly built of cengal and are in perfect working condition, ready to take to the water at short notice. These two are sailing boats measuring 25' x 9' with a deep, ocean-going keel. They are exact copies of each other. The asking price is RM150,000. This is a boat penambang measuring 35' x 9 with a relatively flat bottom or shoal keel meant for coastal waters, rivers and lakes. Not meant to handle stormy waters. The windows are glass-paned. It is powered by a diesel inboard engine which to me is a no-no because it means smell, noise, vibration and space-robbing (snvs). A recreational boater who doesn't mind the snvs can use it as a liveaboard for cruising, camping and fishing. The price is RM130,000. This is the bigger of the two penambang boats at Abdullah Muda's boatyard. The engine is installed upfront instead of amidship, leaving more space and giving less stress to passengers. Stuff the driver! Measuring 40' x 9', it is selling for RM150,000. Another view of the bigger penambang. My personal comment - as though I haven't pass enough comment already (!), is, these deadweights are not only pigs to move, they are pigs in a poke to buy. But then I'm biased. Scores of the penambangs are plying the waters of rivers and lakes while the reputation of the sailing boats are as solid as the cengal they are made of. Whether the asking price is expensive is subjective but I know it has grounded even an ex Mas pilot who was keen on laying his hand on one before the economy grinded to a crawl, what more to this down-at-the-heel, shares-come-a-cropper of a pensioner. RapidKL: Bicycles “potentially dangerous weapons”

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Sept 2009: RapidKL [1] considers bicycles, even folded ones, “potentially dangerous” to bring onboard an LRT. Hence, its policy restricting bicycles from LRT trains during peak hours.

RapidKL’s communication division general manager, Ebi Azly Abdullah, said the company’s policy on bicycles [2] was clearly stated on its website. Foldable bicycles are only allowed during off-peak hours from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

“They (folded bicycles) are potentially dangerous during peak hours because they have more sharp edges than a pram,” he added. “It can be a dangerous weapon, should the train brake in an emergency.”

Ebi was commenting on a one-person protest by a passenger against the policy after the passenger was denied entry onto the LRT because of his bicycle on 7 Sept 2009.

Filmmaker Chi Too [3] had written to the media to complain that he was turned away by RapidKL staff when he tried to board the train at the Taman Maluri station with his foldable bicycle.

Chi Too claimed that he has been boarding the train with his foldable bicycle for the past year and has never been stopped before. “Like most days, I cycled to the Taman Maluri LRT station and folded up my bicycle like I have for the past year,” he said in his letter to the media [4].

“Upon approaching the ticket counter, I was shocked that the security guard exclaimed that I could not bring my bicycle into the station. The ticket staff refused to sell me a ticket. Strangely, everyone denied that I had ever brought my bicycle into the station despite my having done that for the past year,” he added.

After some amount of negotiations, Chi Too eventually conducted a 30-minute sit-in protest against RapidKL’s policy at the Taman Maluri and Masjid Jamek LRT stations.

His sit-in protest was eventually dismantled by plainclothes security personnel.

“It was obvious that the whole thing was a stunt,” Ebi told The Nut Graph in a phone interview.

“He tried to get on during peak hours. We don’t allow foldable bicycles during peak hours,” Ebi added.

Dirty and dangerous

When it was pointed out that folded bicycles are no larger than prams which are allowed on the trains during peak hours, Ebi said: “Prams are not dirty. These foldable bicycles can be dirty.”

However, many transit systems allow foldable bicycles onto trains and buses at all times with no restrictions. These include the London Undergound, [5] the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, [6] and the San Fransisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District [7].

[The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority [8] states that folded bicycles encased in “carrying bags, cases or boxes are deemed ‘luggage’ items” and are permitted on trains at all times.]

Ebi said however that the situation in Malaysia was different. “We are not like the London Tube. In London, they have so many lines — about 10 lines. There are more options for transport in London.

“Here, there is a two-car system on the Kelana Jaya line and a six-car system on the Ampang line. There are only two lines. It is very crowded during peak hours,” he said.

Chi Too had also claimed that three men and a woman physically broke up his sit-in protest. He said they roughed him up and he finally agreed to leave as he believed he was under arrest. To his surprise, these persons disappeared once he left the station.

Ebi stated that these security officers were known to RapidKL, and denied that they had been hostile at any time.

“The people mentioned in his letter were our polis bantuan. They asked him to leave politely. When he refused to leave, they escorted him and his bicycle out of the station,” Ebi said.

But Ebi conceded that the security personnel were not in uniform as they were “undercover police”.

Ebi said Chi Too’s protest was unnecessary and obstructive hence, he had to be “escorted” out. “He did a protest in front of the gate. He was sitting in the middle of a very busy area in the pathway (of commuters).”

Both Chi Too and RapidKL’s polis bantuan have since made police reports at the Dang Wangi police station about each other’s actions.

Commuting by bicycle to work or to places you wish to go to is great for your health. It gives you a low-impact workout twice a day, so it can help you keep your weight down. By not using your car, you could save your pocket.

We at RapidKL have always encouraged people to take the public transport to help reduce the air and noise pollution in Klang Valley. Studies have shown that traffic jams is the main source of carbon dioxide emissions in Klang Valley. We believe that cycling can also help reduce pollution and help prevent global climate change.

RapidKL acknowledges the fact that some of our commuters cycle to our stations and park their bicycles there to take our LRT. RapidKL even allows cyclists to bring their foldable bicycles on board the trains or buses so they may continue their journey on their bicycle. But this is provided all policies and guidelines are adhered to (the policies and guidelines are appended below).

Commuters may use bicycles to access RapidKL's network via:

Cycling to the nearest LRT station or Bus Stations and parking your bicycle at the bicycle parking bays provided.

OR utilizing foldable bicycles (only during off-peak hours 9.30 a.m to 4.30 p.m)

Here are some guidelines commuters with folding bikes have to follow

1.Inform station personnel of your intention to bring a foldable bicycle onboard.

2.Bicycles MUST be folded and once folded, dimensions must not exceed 3 x 2.5 x 1.5 feet.

3.Bicycles must be dry and clean from oil/mud/grease. This is to ensure grimes from the tires or the working parts does not contaminate the trains.

4.Bicycles must not block the aisles and doors or impede commuter movement at ANY time.

5.When taking the Kelana Jaya Line, cyclist with the foldable bicycle must stand near the door while on Ampang Line cyclist must stand near the Driving Cab area.

6.If traveling in group, only FIVE (5) cyclists are allowed with the bicycles on board the Ampang Line and if traveling on the Kelana Jaya Line only TWO cyclists are allowed. If traveling on the bus only ONE cyclist and foldable bicycle is allowed at one time.

7.All folding and unfolding activities must be done outside the station area.

8.Please use good judgement and logic whenever you travel with a foldable bicycle onboard the LRT

Protest against no-bicycle rule on peak-hour trains

Denied Entry: Too Chee Hung carries his foldable bicycle into the LRT station. He uses the bicycle for transportation around the city

FOR the past year, Too Chee Hung, 28, has embarked on a one-man journey for an environmentally-
sustainable Malaysia.

He travels by public transport as much as possible and uses a bicycle in the city.

However, his efforts for a greener Malaysia were disrupted when he was denied entry to the LRT station on Monday at about 8.30am.

He was about to go through the ticket turnstile at the Taman Maluri station when he was stopped and told he couldn’t enter because he was carrying his foldable bicycle.

“All this while, I have carried my foldable bicycle into many LRT stations around the city and I have never had a problem,” said Too who works as a videographer. “I was shocked by this incident.”

Not satisfied at having been refused entry to the station, Too decided to stage a one-man protest by sitting at few metres away from the ticket counter to show his disappointment.

He claimed that a RapidKL staff later told him that he would be allowed into the station and to board the train - but as a one-time dispensation only.

Not satisfied with that he rode his bicycle to the Masjid Jamek LRT station, where he staged another
silent protest.

“I wanted to make a clear statement and call for an environmentally-conscious public transport system in Malaysia. So, I sat some distance away from the turnstiles with a placard that informed everyone about this apparently new decision by RapidKL.” he told Malay Mail.

The placard read: “Entry denied, RapidKL says no to sustainable green transport.” This protest however, lasted less than an hour as Too claimed a woman and three men approached and asked him to leave.

“When I refused, I was shouted at by the three men. They then dragged me out as I had wrapped myself around my foldable bicycle.”

Refusing to continue with this indignity, Too eventually relented and was escorted out of the station by the foursome. He then lodged a police report on the incident at the Dang Wangi police station.

Bewildered by the fracas, Too said: “There are many countries that allow bicycles inside trains whether it’s the peak hour or not. I don’t understand why there is no policy in place to encourage the use of sustainable and environmentally-friendly transportation here.”

When contacted, RapidKL communications general manager, Ebi Azly Abdullah said there were policies and guidelines that have to be followed when carrying a foldable bicycle.

Among them are that foldable bicycles are only allowed on trains during off-peak hours between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

“During peak hours, the number of commuters is high and it is possible that this foldable bicycle may cause injury to other commuters.”

RapidKL regulations also state that the bicycles must be dry and clean from oil, mud and grease. This is to ensure grime from the tyres or moving parts do not contaminate trains. The bicycles must not block the aisles and doors or impede commuter movement at any time.

On Too’s claims, Ebi said: “He was refused entry because he wanted to get onto the train at 8.30am and this is considered a peak hour period.

“Since he waited, we invited him to board the train at 9am even though it was still 30 minutes before the peak time ends. Our staff even offered to let him ride free on that trip. But, he refused and left the Taman Maluri station instead.”

Ebi also dismissed claims by Too that he was manhandled by RapidKL staff. “From our investigations, the staff followed procedures and did not mistreat him.”

Malaysia is going backwards now. thailand is emerging as one of the powerhouse in asia much faster than malaysia. their skytrain and etc is much bigger compare to our tiny carriage. somemore the stations are based on strategic places unlike ours.....situated at those 'weird' places where the people who are planning to develop the place will get the advantages. after more than 10 yrs, there are not much new stations while thailand kept increasing theirs. this is the mentality that we hope the next government can weed off.

If the train operators does not welcome passengers with a fold-able bicycle ,pls put up a signage and answer directly instead of beating around the bush by saying that there is such a thing as rush hour policy. This very well means passengers on a wheel chair are deny access as well. But, rapidkl and monorail are designed in such way where wheel chairs cannot even enter. Maybe by now , more Malaysians understand the meaning of "glokal" .

BACKGROUND

Bought in September 2009. Inquired with Mr Que Hisayasu san from Woolrich Brand Manager, Asia (Nihonbashi YT Bld, 2F 1-21-7 Kakigara-cho, Nihonbashi, Chuo-Ku, Tokyo 103-0014) revealed the following information.

1. It is a 16" diameter wheel folding bicycle with spring laoded suspension made of High Tensile Steel weighed about 15 kgs unpacked without seat and pedal.
2. This foldy was manufactured under license given to Woolrich to sell limited in Japan only.
3. This foldy is one of 500 pieces made for 2004 season.
4 The original manufacturer had in year 2007 gone out of bussiness.
5 This foldy was retailed at about Yen 38,000 ~ 48,000 per piece that time (about RM 1,395 ~ RM 1,762 now).

The rest of information such as who is the manufacturer and how many still on the road todate is not known.

3. TAOYUAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – On arrival you can do 3 things. First you can find several money exchangers in the airport. Rate are better then banks in the city. There is no money exchanger in the street, if any, is very difficult to find. If you can get one, I’m sure the rate will be astronomical. There are hotel and restaurant in certain parts of TAIPEI will also offer very uninteresting rate. So please do change your money in KL before going because the KL rate is still the best. Secondly, if you have not got any maps and/or had not sign up yet for the YOUTH TRAVEL CARD, you can still do so at the Tourism counter in front of the arrival exit. You can even register your name for a free half day tour at TAIPEI. Thirdly you can proceed straight to the bus counter located to you right hand side of the arrival exit. Just follow the overhead signboard, and trust me you will not get lost. Buses are available from 5:15 am till 24:00 pm every day to various destinations in Taiwan. If you arrived TAIWAN in the early hour of the day and have no way of getting to the nearest town or to the city, the couch one floor up beside the 7 ELEVEN is quite comfortable and private. There is even a power point nearby. TAIWAN is using 2 round pins power point on 110 voltage grid. There is no need to get a step down transformer as most of our travel charger for hand phone and lap top is compatible. There are several bus companies such as KUO KUANG MOTOR TRANSPORT COMPNAY, EVERGREEN, AIRBUS, U BUS and etc. I would recommend taking AIR BUS to TAIPEI as it only cost TWD 92.00 if you are not in a hurry as the traveling takes 1:15 hrs from airport to TAIPEI passing through TOUYUAN CITY (KUO KUANG @ TWD 125.00 and EVERGREE @ TWD 150.00 is on express without stopping and takes only about 45 minutes). AIRBUS will stop in front of TAIPEI MAIN STATION. If you are taking other company’s buses be sure to ask the driver where are they stopping on arrival TAIPEI. I would suggest taking KUO KUANG on the way back to airport from TAIPEI. KUO KUANG terminal is only located a few blocks from TAIPEI MAIN STATION (about 10 minutes walk). Ask people for direction. Notice “they are not located at the TAIEPI MAIN BUS TERMINAL where all the local buses are located”.

4. TAIPEI MAIN STATION – You can catch the HIGH SPEED RAIL or slow train to any parts of TAIWAN. The local bus terminal is only adjacent to this terminal.

5. LODGING – There are many Inns, Guest Houses, Hotels and Resorts to put up a night or two in Taipei. There is really no need to book online in advance. However if you are not sure, it is good to do so just for a day. You can find most hotels, budget, guest houses, boarding at these websites.

There is a few of which I have close to my heart as follows: -

a) ONE2STAY Inn (one2stay@gmail.com) and GOOD9STAY Inn (good9stay@gmail.com) both in XIMENDING quite nearby to XIMENDING MRT STATION is worth a stay and for a double size bedroom will only cost about TWD 1,500/night. Friday and Saturday may cost a bit more and are usually fully booked.
b) ELEGANCE HOTEL (elegance@kimo.com) is just located right in front of LIUZHANGLI MRT STATION. The facilities are modern to my taste such as attached bathroom with bath tub, LCD 24 inches and housekeeping have my thumb up all the way in my stay in for 3 days. Only thing to be careful especially if you have kids around is channel 14 which is broadcasted for adult only. For a twin bed with an extra you can easily get for TWD 1,800/night (if check in after 7;00pm, the rate is reduce to TWD 1,500) and if you stay more then 3 nights, you will get a flat rental of TWD 1,500 for the rest of your stays. There is a mornig/night market nearby walking distance about 10 minutes away.

Meantime the best spot to stay in Taipei is not at Ximending or at Taipei Main Station or at any other place in the city because although they are all conveniently located in the city and a stone throw away from the nearest shopping attraction but they lack good scenery and are very busy. I had discovered a place call SHILIN (5 stations north of Taipei Main Station by MRT on DANSHUI Lines) which has a very beautiful (you can see mountains as you disembark from the MRT) and a much relax atmosphere. The town even has her own day and night market (located at JIHE Rd) which may not be marked in the map. The bargaining here is much friendlier as compared to the city traders. You will not miss it as you walk along ZHONGZHENG Rd toward the nearby (about 20 minutes) National Science Education Center and the Taipei Astronomical Museum. The weather here in SHILIN (mid of December) is windy in the day and a bit chilling at night. Wear some pull over.

6. MRT – Taipei has one of the best rail network (my humble opinion) in the world. The connection is almost seamless not to mention the cheap rate. Cheapest still if you purchased the pre paid at any station. This “YU YU” Card (the local called it) cost TWD 500 for adult (100 deposit) and TWD 300 for children under concession (50 deposit). Deposit and balance is refundable on surrendering at any station. However a TWD 20 is deductable on each card as administrative charge if surrendering within 3 months. No worry about getting lost as announcement is in Mandarin, English including 2 local dialects. Destination is brightly posted on digital signboard/route inside the coach at the entrance/exit. You just have to remember the lines. At the time of my visit, there are 9 lines as follows: -

a) DANSHUI Line to the north from TAIPEI MAIN STATION joining CHIANG KAI-SHEK Station
b) BANNAN Line east and west of Taipei Main Station
c) XINDIAN Line is to the south of CHIANG KAI-SHEK MEMORIAL HALL Station
d) XINBEITOU Br Line a station north of BEITOU Station
e) XIAONANMEN Line joining XIMEN Station to CHIANG KAI-SHEK MEMORIAL HALL Station
f) XIAOBITAN Br Line a station west of QZHANG Station
g) ZHONGHE Line 4 stations south of GUTING Station
h) WENHU Line north and south of ZHONGXIAO FUXING Station
i) MAOKONG GONDOLA an extension of WENHU Line to the south from TAIPEI ZOO

A word of caution, do not try to memorize the stations. There are about 80 over station on the entire MRT grids. Trust me just remember the last station on the line of your destination and you can easily find the correct line. If you still find it confusing, ask the counter before proceeding to the relevant embarkation floor. But nevertheless do not worry too much and have fun navigating the MRT Grids. You do not have to pay until you exit the station and like I mentioned earlier, the grids are almost seamless, you do not have to jump station as you changed lines. The local government is also promoting train commuting very strongly due to traffic congestion in the city.

7. TAIPEI ZOO – easily reachable by MRT from ZHONGXIAO FUXING. It is the last station on WENHU Line. The ticket is TWD 60 for adult and TWD 30 for children payable using “YU YU” Card. You do not have to prepare lunch for this excursion as there are plenty of eateries on the inside of the ZOO including 1 McDonald. The ZOO is nicely managed and beautiful to stroll. Animals are all observed to be well taken care of.

8. 228 Peace Memorial Park – Reachable by taking the DANSHUI LINES stopping at NTU Hospital Station. There is a statue of Confucius in the park together with many squirrel playing around tamely.

9. Taipei 101 - Located near to Taipei City Hall and it is very uptown here just like our KLCC area. It is easily reachable by MRT "BANNAN Lines" stopping at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall Station or at Taipei City Hall Station. I prefer the later because i then can walk south towards City Hall and leave by taking the Guangfu S.Road then turn left into Rennai Rd. Sec. 4 and the rest is pretty much enjoyment.I leave by taking the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall MRT to my next destination.

Greetings

Before going get a lot of US$ locally. There is no need to change to VND in Malaysia. Change it at Vietnam for better rate. In March I changed US$ 1 for VND 19,350.00.

In Hanoi

On arrival Noi Bai airport, go any of those counters at the arrival hall and change some VND. Not to much but enough for you to buy map, pay for bus fare to Old Qtr and 2 day deposit for lodging. Then go to the Tourism both, a small one beside a handphone shop if I remember correctly, and get a Vietnam map for a Dollar. Also get a business card from her. It will come handy later. Then proceed to the mini bus station not very far from the airport entrance. Jump onboard bus no 17 that takes you directly into the Old Qtr at Long Bein bus station for VND 5,000.

You can then go around Old Quarter for lodging. There is many good guest house and motel available. Make sure to bargain and always pay in VND. Unpack and proceed to Hoan Kiem Lake. It is just a short straight walk along Dong Xuan and Hang Dao Street. When you exit Hang Dao Street you will see the lake. On your left (or is it right) before crossing the busy street with a beautiful island in the center get into the tourism office and get your Hanoi’s map for free and whatever local tour you want to buy. Halong Bay is also available here for a reasonable cost and many more. With the Hanoi map go and venture into the streets.

It is very safe and local peoples are very friendly. Be careful when crossing the roads. Too much traffic and not enough patience. Everyone seems to be rushing to some where. And also be careful of the xe oms (motorbikes) offering you a ride to yr destination. They some time can be a little to persistence. But a stern “No” with a smile will deter them. If you need to use them, by all mean use them, they are safe but always agreed on a fee first to avoid any issue. In and around Old Qtr the standard fare is VND 15,000.

Telco service helps man find stolen ‘friend’

FRIEND Finder, a service provided by telecommunications companies to locate their users’ friends, helped a man find his stolen car in Johor Baru.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the man, identified only as Mr Ye, had used the service as an anti-theft device for over a year.

He kept a phone activated with the service in his Toyota Camry car.

On Sunday, Ye found that his car parked in Permas Jaya was missing at about 9.30pm.

He traced his “friend” in the car and the response showed that the vehicle was in Taman Nusa Bistari 2. “After a three and a half hour search in the housing estate, I recovered my car by the roadside,” he said.

Ye encouraged the public to use this cheap and useful service, saying that his anti-car theft device was only a cellphone that cost less than RM100 and a pre-paid service card.

Hi,

The International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI is a number unique to every GSM and UMTS and iDEN mobile phone as well as some satellite phones. It is usually found printed on the phone underneath the battery. It can be found by typing *#06# on a handset.

The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used to stop a stolen phone from accessing the network. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "ban" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless, whether or not the phone's SIM is changed.

Unlike the Electronic Serial Number or MEID of CDMA and other wireless networks, the IMEI is only used to identify the device, and has no permanent or semi-permanent relation to the subscriber. Instead, the subscriber is identified by transmission of an IMSI number, which is stored on a SIM card that can (in theory) be transferred to any handset. However, many network and security features are enabled by knowing the current device being used by a subscriber.

In the long term consider cycling as it is a good way to reduce global warming as well as giving you a healthier body. This will also control the fluctuating fuel price in the global market and help to reduce road accident when lesser vehicles in on the roads.

This year in particular is a very challenging year with all those credit cruch stories and global economy meltdown. Laying off is every where and earning a living is becoming more difficult then ever. But i believe, as we stand together, in unity, we should be able to weather through this tough time. It is never too late to give your frenz or a complete stranger for that matter a hug,a smile and a shoulder to cry on. Let them knows that we care. We are all in this together.

Japanese Terminal Man in Mexico

A Japanese man has set up home in Mexico City's airport and has no intention of leaving.

Hiroshi Nohara has become something of a celebrity in Terminal 1 of Benito Juarez International Airport since arriving on September 2.

Mr Nohara has said he can't explain what drew him to the airport, or why he has decided to stay.
"I do not understand why I am here," Mr Nohara, who is originally from Tokyo, told a local television station through an interpreter. "I don't have any reasons."

Mr Nohara holds a valid visa and local authorities admit they have no reason to force him to leave. All they can do is wait for the paperwork to expire in March.

In the meantime, Mr Nohara has become famous and is regularly featured on local television.

He sleeps in a chair in the airport's food court, surviving off food given to him by vendors keen to see their merchandising promoted in his TV interviews.

Passengers who recognise him also help him out by buying him burgers and coffee. In return, he is happy to pose for a photograph or sign an autograph.

After three months of living rough, however, Mr Nohara is looking decidedly dishevelled. His beard and hair unkempt and his clothes are in need of a wash. Some people using the food court have complained that he needs a shower.

The quietly spoken Mr Nohara replies that he just wants to be left alone and preferred it when he was not in the media spotlight.

His story is similar to that the 2004 film "The Terminal," in which an Eastern European man, played by Tom Hanks, gets trapped at New York's JFK International Airport by revolution in his homeland and is repeatedly denied permission to leave by immigration officials.

Man who lived in airport for three months returns home
A Japanese tourist who spent three months living in Mexico City's airport has returned home.

Airport spokesman Victor Mejia says Hiroshi Nohara left Monday on a flight for Japan via San Francisco.

Nohara arrived in Mexico City on Sept 2 and spent the next three months at a food court in Terminal 1 of Benito Juarez International Airport.

His residency there made him a local celebrity and Mexican news programmes ran regular updates on his life.

Nohara left the airport on Dec 31 to stay with a woman who invited him to her Mexico City apartment. But Reforma newspaper reported that Nohara returned to the airport on Sunday carrying three plastic bags with his clothes and blankets.

He declined to speak to reporters.
