Triple Gold - Record results at Snowboard World Championship

The FIS Snowboard World Championships concluded in La Molina, Spain on Sunday 23rd January with Australia finishing as the leading nation with three gold medals, after the record breaking success of AIS scholarship athletes Alex Pullin, Holly Crawford and Nathan Johnstone each winning a World Championship.

Pullin, Crawford and Johnstone join a select group of Australian winter sport athletes who have won World Championships, consisting of Kirstie Marshall (Aerials), Jacqui Cooper (Aerials), Alisa Camplin (Aerials), Dale Begg-Smith (Moguls), Zali Steggall (Alpine) and Men’s 5000m relay team (Speed Skating).

Karbon is the official sponsor of the Australian team and wishes to congratulate its athletes for their exceptional performance.

Opening world cup race yesterday in Solden, Austria and a good start for Tina Maze placing 6th in the Giant Slalom.

The Slovenian team is wearing new colours this season and we hope to see them many times on the podium.

The Men's GS will go today and we wish all our athletes the best for the new season.

Begg-Smith claims fourth title and silver at World Cup final

Dale Begg-Smith has joined French mogul skiing legend Edgar Grospiron as the greatest World Cup champion of all time after wrapping up his fourth title in Sierra Nevada, Spain. The Vancouver 2010 silver medallist picked up another silver in the final event of the season to cap off a remarkable comeback from injury.

The AIS skier won three events for the season and also collected another three silver medals to post a season score of 693 points, 78 points clear of French skier Guilbaut Colas. The 25-year-old's ability to claim another World Cup title, just fourteen months after major knee surgery, has amazed AIS Head Mogul Skiing Coach Steve Desovich.

“For Dale to come back and do what he has is extraordinary,” Desovich said. “It’s a great tribute to Dale that he’s very smart and he manages risk masterfully – he’s so good in that way. And you have to salute him for being so consistent over time.”

Second consecutive World Cup win for Crawford

Holly Crawford has ended her season with a second consecutive World Cup snowboard half pipe victory.

Riding at the World Cup finals in La Molina, Spain, Crawford collected the third victory of her career, climbing to the number three ranking in the world in the process.

She was unable to better that score in her second run, but neither could any of the other five finalists, giving her the victory.

The result gave her back to back gold medals and a third straight podium placing.

JUST over a week before the start of the Winter Paralympics, Australian Marty Mayberry claimed his second World Cup medal in less than 24 hours with gold in the downhill event on the slopes of Aspen. The paralympian, who lost both his legs below the knee to meningococcal when 16, has lead an Australian medal rush at the World Cup with leg amputee team-mate Toby Kane claiming bronze in the same event. Congratulations Marty!

Can Tina Make Three?

Tina maze will compete in today's Slalom and try to extend her Olympic medal streak. With silver in both the SG and GS, Tina's podium finish in the last slalom race before the Games bodes well for an exciting event today. Fellow Slovenians Marusa Ferk and Anna Drev will also be in the field. Ferk had her first world cup slalom podium last year and is also a medal contender.

Tina Maze has her second medal of the games taking silver is GS. With the the course quickly deteriorating, Tina moved up from 5th after the first run and was only .04 seconds from the gold. Congratulations Tina.

Women's GS 2nd Run Today

Poor visibility postponed the second run of the women's GS yesterday and it will start today at 9:30 PST. Tina Maze of Slovenia is well positioned in 5th pace after the 1st run, only .27 seconds behind the leader.

Australia Strikes Gold and Silver In Cypress

With Australian athletes achieving three Olympic medals at Cypress, the venue has proven to been very successful. Dale Begg-Smith started it off with silver in moguls, followed by gold from Torah Bright in halfpipe and gold last night in aerials from Lydia Lassila. Karbon has been a proud sponsor of the Australian Olympic Committee since 2003 and provides all parade, podium, competition and delegation apparel to all members of their winter Olympic team.

Hannah’s Race Suit Up For Auction

Australian luge representative Hannah Campbell-Pegg has decided to auction her Olympic race suit, worn during her competition runs at the the Vancouver 2010 Games, to raise some money for the family of Georgian athlete Nodar Kumaritashvili. Kumaritashvili was killed in a training accident on February 12, the day of the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

The 27-year-old was looking for a way to not only honour Kumaritashvili’s memory but also make a small gesture so that his family knew that he had had a positive impact on others and will be missed. The suit has been signed by Campbell-Pegg and will be professionally framed with photographs of her in the suit during competition at Vancouver 2010.

Lassila Wins Gold

Lydia Lassila from Australia wins the Freestyle aerial event with an Olympic record score. Standing in second place after the first jump, she outperformed the competition to take her first Olympic medal. Lassila also set a new world record score last month in Deer Valley, UT. Lassilas' teammates Jacqui Cooper, competing in her 5th Olympic Games, finished 5th and Liz Gardner placed 12th.

Aussies Set To Fly

Lydia Lassila, Jacqui Cooper and Liz Gardner from Australia take to the air tonight in the Women's Freestyle Aerial Finals. In the past year, Lydia and Jacqui has both set the highest point totals in Aerial competition. Both will be jumping multiple twisting-triples with high degrees of difficulty. Good luck ladies!
