Thank you so much for your patience while I took a little time off. It is so good to be back. I trust you all had a wonderful Christmas and your new year is off to a good start. I think this is the first year I have not made any resolutions. I figured that I have never kept them anyway, so why put that kind of pressure on myself. ;) I have, however; decided to take each day as it is given to me and make the most of that day. I have always thanked God for everyday that He gave me, but I haven’t always used that day in the best way. I definitely need to improve on that—mmmm, maybe I did make a resolution after all.

I am going to do something different and have a theme for the whole month. I am not sure I will continue this for the whole year, but I am going to give it a try and see how it goes. Of course, I would love feedback and suggestions from my readers!!!

The theme for the month of January is NEW!
You all sure know how to lift a girl up! It meant so much. I am feeling a lot better. I am on a very low fat diet until my surgery on the 28th. It makes food rather uninteresting, but it’s keeping the pain away, so I am not complaining one bit. I am a little nervous about the surgery, but I know God will be right there beside me.

<img style="background-image: none;
I am so thankful I have been redeemed by the blood of my Lord Jesus Christ. I never want to be ashamed to stand up and say what He has done for me. He is such an awesome God! Even in the darkest of days, He is still the light. Could you imagine how dark it would be without Him? I don’t ever want to be without His presence in my life. I need Him and I am not afraid to say so.

You can download this WORDart here.

How to resize the WORDart in Windows WordPad

Did you know that you can open and resize the WORDart in Windows WordPad? This is what you do:

1. Go to Windows start button

2. Click on All Programs

3. Open the Accessories folder

4. Click on WordPad

5. Once WordPad is open, click on the picture icon and select picture.

6. Navigate to where you saved the file on your hard drive and select the jpg file. (If this is your first time using WordPad, you may have to select Create New first.)

7. Once the picture opens in WordPad, click on it and a box with four squares at each corner will be around it.

8. Hover your mouse over the bottom right square and your cursor will turn into a two-way arrow. Drag your cursor toward or away from the graphic to resize it.

9. You can then go to the top left hand box (next to Home) and choose print to print it.

I hope this is helpful to someone!

Have a blessed day!

~Karen

WORDart

I am very sorry for neglecting my blog this week and not having new WORDart. I have spent most of this week with excruciating stomach and back pain. The worst pain I have ever experienced — and I have had six kids with no pain meds whatsoever. Most of my pain free time has been spent sleeping and taking care of my family. Who knew pain was so exhausting! After spending half of the night in the ER last night, I now know that I have a “very sick” gallbladder and have to follow up with a surgeon. This doesn’t exactly fit in with the plans I have been making, but I am tired of feeling sick and being in pain. I hope to be back to my creative self very soon. I have a million ideas running through my head and really want to get started on them and share the results with you.

Thanks for understanding!

~Karen

Hey, did you know…?

Your project must include an actual scripture from the Bible, inspirational quotes will not be accepted. You have until Wednesday to link up, so you still have some time if you wish to participate. This is such a great way to share your work and meet new people. Abby also offers amazing free vintage graphics on her blog that you can use in your projects. Here is the direct link to the Link Party. Of course, I had to make some WORDart that was fitting for the season. I love Thanksgiving. It is one of my favorite holidays. I love being reminded of all the things I have to be thankful for. I try to be thankful every day, but it is nice to have a time to really focus on the little things that I tend to take for granted. Most of all, I am thankful for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. How different my life would be if I didn’t know of His love and grace for me, if I hadn’t experienced His mercy and continue to experience it daily. He is so good, more than my words are able to express.

<img style="background-image: none;
I made this card using the frame-it wordart below. I used the simplified version and printed it onto Rustic Cream cardstock. I trimmed the long side down to 5 1/4, distressed the edges and inked them with Antique Linen and Gathered Twigs distress ink. I then tied some brown twine around it and tied on a leaf button I had in my stash. I also very lightly sprayed some Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist on it. I sprayed it from a distance so it wouldn’t mess up the printed ink too much. It did splotch it just a bit, but since I was going for the distressed look I didn’t mind. I adhered it to my kraft card base and Wha-la—super quick and easy card. I tried so hard to get a picture that captured the shimmer from the glimmer mist, but I just couldn’t do it. It looks amazing in real life.

<img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; When I went to use them, my mind went in a total different direction. Maybe it was because my hand has been missing my paint brush, but I had this idea to paint them.

I pulled out my Annie They need to know that God is their strength when they are feeling weak, that He is their healer when they are sick, that His grace is sufficient for whatever situation they might find themselves in. I want them to feel God’s approval in their lives and to not be ashamed that they are His children and to love His word.

I had some fun playing around with the colors, even making a fall themed one to match my fall décor.
I made their wedding card very simple. I started with a card base of Cryogen White cardstock. Cryogen White is a white shimmer paper, it has just the right amount of shimmer…and I love it. I stamped the Background Basics: Houndstooth in Encore Silver. Check out that shimmer! I then stamped Congrats from Think Big Favorites #5 in Hawaiian Shores ink. I added three gems that I colored with an R05 Copic marker to the bottom left hand side.

This is my first time doing the Make It Monday challenge from Papertrey. I saw the video on making your own washi tape and I had to give it a try. I have been admiring washi tape from afar now for quite some time and just could not resist. I didn’t have Scor-Tape in the correct size so I decided to improvise. I did have some medical tape left over from the hazards of summer, so I thought that might work. I am happy with the results, but I did notice that the ink really absorbs into the tape and would probably work better with more vibrant colors. I stamped the polka dots from BB: Polka Dot Basics II in Aqua Mist ink. It looks much more vibrant in real life, but I had a hard time conveying that in my photo. I stamped the pitcher in Hawaiian Shores ink. The leaves and flowers are stamped in Jenni Bowlin Seed Packet and PTI Raspberry Fizz. After stamping those images from Iconic Images, I wanted to soften the edges. I used a sponge to go around the edges with Fresh Snow ink and then to add more dimension went around the edges only with Antique Linen distress ink. I also stamped some swirls from Fancy Flourishes in Antique Linen at the corners. The birthday sentiment is from Damask Designs and is stamped in Raspberry Fizz. I had so much fun making my own washi tape and will definitely be using this technique in the future.

I am so excited about this three day weekend. I just wish my must-do list would stop outnumbering my want-to-do list.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for stopping by!

This is a card I made with today’s WORDart. I know, I know, I actually made a card! I used a stamp from The Angel Company’s Mountain Scenery set. It was the closest stamp I had to hills. I stamped it in Palette Noir then restamped it without reinking above it. I used the leaf border die to die cut Ripe Avocado cardstock and adhered it to my card using a glue pen, then wrapped some Honeydew baker’s twine from The Twinery around it. The WORDart was printed directly onto the kraft card base first before I did all the above. ;)

You can download the WORDart here.

Leftovers. I have a refrigerator full of them. If you are like me, you wait until you can’t cram another thing in there before cleaning it out. I usually wait until just before I go grocery shopping and then clean it out. I like to have a clean fridge for all the fresh stuff. In my family you either like leftovers or you don’t. My husband rarely eats leftovers, but my kids and I often enjoy having them for lunch the next day. Leftovers are a funny thing. There are the leftovers nobody eats, and then there are the ones that are claimed before we ever leave the dinner table. It is not even uncommon to find someone’s name on a container of leftovers in the fridge staking their claim. Then there are the foods that just don’t taste good at all as leftovers or maybe they are just overlooked or forgotten all together. My refrigerator full of leftovers had me thinking about how grateful I am that I don’t have to depend on leftovers from my Heavenly Father. The Bible said his mercies are new every morning and that his compassions fail not. I don’t have to clean out yesterday’s garbage before I can start enjoying his mercies today. I think it’s hard sometimes to comprehend that we have fresh mercy daily. A lot of mornings I wake up still facing yesterday’s problems, but God is offering me a fresh clean day with fresh clean mercy. He never offers me leftovers! The problems may still be there, but He is extending hope and grace and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. God is so good to me! I am so thankful for His faithfulness.

WORDart download available here

I made this card using Soft Stone and Royal Velvet cardstocks. I have found myself using Soft Stone a lot lately. I stamped the Text Style background in Charcoal ink. I wanted it to be more muted so I rubbed New Canvas ink all over it directly from the ink pad. I then layered the flowers from Botanical Silhouettes on top. I used Palette L’Amour Red and Momento Grape Jelly inks for the flowers and New Leaf ink for the leaves. I used a strip of vellum to stamp the sentiment and then scored two lines on the top and bottom and adhered it to the front of my card. I finished off the card by adding some pure poppy grosgrain ribbon to the top of the card and some clear gems to the flowers.

So what is everyone up to? It has been busy in our household lately. We celebrated my husband’s birthday yesterday and we will celebrate my youngest son’s birthday on Saturday. There always seems to be a birthday to celebrate, but that is one of the fun things of having a big family.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.

The WORDart this week is a scripture I have had on my wall for many years. I love this scripture because it reminds me every day of what my mission is as a mother. God has blessed me with six children and nothing blesses me more than to see them live their lives serving Christ, walking in the truth and dedicating their lives to Him. Being a mother is one of the greatest joys I have ever experienced. Motherhood is not an easy task. It can be very challenging and there are days of frustration, loneliness and even heartbreak. Motherhood has driven me to my knees in prayer more than anything else in my life ever has. God has really been speaking to me lately about not seeing motherhood as a “job” but as a ministry. When I think of caring for my children and their needs as a ministry, it really makes me think of how I act and what I say. If I want my children to walk in truth, I need to show them the truth by more than just reading devotions every morning. They need to see it in my life and feel it in the way I interact with them (and others). Shouldn’t I minister to them as I would minister to Christ if He were in my home?

You can download this WORDart here.

This is a card I made for my husband for our 23rd anniversary back in July. I used this really wonderful paper called Stone Washed Denim for the background. It has great texture and I love the color. I then die cut some Blueberry Sky paper with the Half and Half die and the Take Three die for the focal point. I wrapped some red Baker’s Twine around the end and adhered it to the card front with foam tape. The “I” and the “U” are stamps from Technique Tuesday called Large Provence Capital Letters and are stamped in Palette Prussian blue ink. I used a heart scalloped die from Spellbinders for the heart and added glitter to the center using a glue pen. A very simple card that makes a big statement.

Have a wonderful day!

~Karen

Psalm 29:11 WORDart

I finally have new WORDart to share. I know it has been a while. So much has happened since my last post. My computer is still not working. I took it in for a professional to look at it and they told me it needs a new hard drive…not the answer I was looking for. My sweet, wonderful hubby is letting me use his computer since he is home recovering from his surgery. Thank you all so much for your prayers, the surgery went well and his recovery is going very well.

These past several weeks have probably been some of the most difficult weeks I have ever experienced, but yet I can see the hand of God in it and feel His grace. I have had a LOT of Jonah days these past few weeks. I am not proud of it, but it’s true. (Confession is good for the soul, right?) It just seems like life has been relentless. It is very scary to hear that if your husband does not have surgery asap that there is a possibility he could be paralyzed. It is also very frustrating to have that same doctor postpone his surgery for a week. I was very upset and scared, I’ll be honest. The Bible says that we are to give Him thanks in everything and that is what I tried my best to do. It turned out to be such a blessing that the surgery was delayed. God always knows what is best for us! Our dog got very sick and died the day his original surgery was supposed to happen. I was so glad my children did not have to deal with that on their own while I was with my husband at the hospital, and I know I could not have managed without him there. I never knew that losing a pet could be so hard! Seeing my children grieve and feeling totally helpless to console them has got to be the hardest thing I have ever experienced as a mother. It broke my heart. You just want to be able to suck all that pain into yourself even as you, yourself, are hurting…to protect them from their pain.

There are times in your life when you know all your strength is gone and you can ONLY lean on the strength God gives you. I was reading my Bible on one of my Jonah days, saying “Lord, I need something here from you to get me through this day” when this scripture I am using for WORDart just popped off the page at me. Don’t you just love it when that happens?!?! It’s like God is right there beside you, speaking to you and letting you know how much He cares. That He is aware of your situation, your feelings, and He will supply all your needs. This scripture is exactly what I needed to get through that day…and many since then. How wonderful to know, that He knows where I am and what I need at the immediate time. I am so thankful for His strength and His peace! The strength and peace that only He can give. I know that is what has kept me going. God is so good and I am so thankful for His Word!

You can download this WORDart here.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. May God richly bless you and give you His strength and peace.

~Karen

Jeremiah 17:7 WORDart

I don’t have a card this week, but I do have some new WORDart for you.
I am so thankful for the hope I have in the Lord! Have you ever had a time in your life when just nothing seemed to be going right? Well, I will be a little transparent here and tell you that is the way things have been going for me lately. It just seems like it is one thing after another…one problem is solved only to move on to the next one. Computer issues…car troubles…health issues…can I catch a break, please! But then I stop and realize just how blessed I am. My hope does not come from earthly things, but my hope is in the Lord who gives me strength for everything, however big or small. I think maybe God is trying to teach me that I need to just trust in Him and not stress so much. I am so thankful for the word of God that speaks to my heart and encourages me and for the hope I have in the Lord.

You can download this WORDart here.

I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to leave me a comment or send me an email recently. I can not tell you how much that has meant to me! It means more than I can say and was the perfect encouragement at the perfect time. God is so good!

I also want to thank everyone who has supported and/or purchased from my side hobby, The Angel Company. The Angel Company has decided to close effective immediately. It makes me sad and I will very much miss being a part of The Angel Company.

My husband will be having surgery next week, so if things are quiet here it is because I am taking care of my family. If I can squeeze in some computer time between caring for him and homeschooling the kiddos, I will have some new WORDart for you. If I can squeeze in some crafty time, I might even have a card! I would really appreciate your prayers for a speedy recovery for my husband and strength for our family.

May God richly bless your day!

~Karen
