You should have final decision based on your expertise. If you show a client two mockups and one has navigation down the left and one along the top and ask “which is your favourite?” you’re degrading your expertise. You should know what the best option is and be able to back up your design decisions.

Trent Walton seeded the idea and asked me to make a Dribbble plugin, so I created a plugin that by default mimic’d the wonderful UI created by Dan Cederholm and Rich Thornett. After a couple emails with those gentlemen for their permission to use some assets and a day of coding, we got something we were proud of.

Flash was created during the PC era – for PCs and mice. Flash is a successful business for Adobe, and we can understand why they want to push it beyond PCs. But the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards – all areas where Flash falls short.

It’s hard to stay motivated in the workplace when everyone else you work with aren’t as motivated as you are.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one doing anything or caring about meeting the deadline or just finishing the damn thing “before” the last minute.

I scanned my first “doodle” to dribbble last week. It’s the first one that I feel that actually has potential. It was fun.

“WOW” is all that comes out of my mouth when I see these pictures from the Boston.com Big Picture series on the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.

Then came all the articles on Wireframing and how it worked and the tools you could use. Wow!

Since I haven’t had a design project in a while (I’ve been mostly doing a lot of PSD to WP conversions lately), I haven’t had the chance to start a project with a Wireframe. My chance came a few days ago when a co-worker needed help re-designing one of his clients’ site. Yay! I was happy! Yesterday, I started wireframing with the good ‘ol pen & paper method. I got something down that I really like and last night I downloaded 960.gs templates and got started in Photoshop. It also gave me a chance to upload my first shot to dribbble! Woohoo!

I really liked the whole process of wireframing (from pen & paper to Photoshop). It clears my mind of everything related to colors and what to do design-wise and just concentrate on getting the elements of the page in the right place.
