Women and the evolution of kitchens

We posted about the evolution of kitchens back in April with an exhibit that was organized by Historic New England. It seems the subject is still relevant today with a new exhibit “Counter Space: Design and the Modern Kitchen” opening on September 15^th at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

The exhibit is set to explore the changes seen in the kitchen since the 20^th century. The curator of the show at MoMA, Juliet Kinchin, spoke recently to the New York Times about the role women played in designing kitchens.

Modern day kitchens have come a long way since the Victorian era when kitchens were often dull and cooking was considered hard labor.
