As discussed above, it could be some time before the page with the new name will be indexed and will appear in people’s searches. Also, your web site visitors will be frustrated by the fact that they now have to dig through your site to find the desired information.

Not recommended solution 3: An HTML Meta redirect.

You could implement a so called Meta refresh in a blank or customized page that has the name of the old page (in our example, page1.htm) that points to the new page. The redirect can be instant, or delayed by a predetermine amount of time. The delayed redirect has the advantage that you can place an extra message, such as “please be aware that the page you are looking for changed location….. etc., etc…. you will be redirected automatically to the new location”

In the past, this was probably the most used technique.

Without getting into the mechanics of the Meta redirect, which is basically a META tag statement you ad to your HEADER section, know that there are also Java Script techniques that achieve similar results.

What is bad about this is that this is a technique often used by spammers to trick search engines and it should be avoided, unless the page is in a section of your site that isn't indexed (also known as spidered or crawled). Search engine spammers create a page that is optimized for certain keywords and phrases - it usually has no real content. The page is then picked up by some search engines, but when a visitor clicks on the search engine entry, they are redirected to another site, often unrelated. Most search engines have filters to detect this. Using this form of search engine deception will see a site eventually banned or penalized by major players such as Google.

The recommended redirect strategy - 301 Redirect

A 301 redirect is the most efficient, visitor friendly, robot (spider, crawler) friendly and search engine friendly solution around for web sites that are hosted on servers running Apache. If you are not sure, check with your hosting provider.

A 301 redirect is just a set of commands you type into your .htaccess file.

When a visitor (whether human or robotic) requests a web page via any means, your web server checks for a .htaccess file. The .htaccess file contains specific instructions for certain requests, including security, redirection issues and how to handle certain errors.

The code "301" is interpreted as "moved permanently". After the code, the URL of the missing or renamed page is noted, followed by a space, then followed by the new location or file name.

First of all, you'll need to find the .htaccess file in the root directory of where all your web pages are stored. If there is no .htaccess file there, you can create one with Notepad or a similar application. Make sure when you name the file that you remember to put the "." at the beginning of the file name. This file has no tail extension.

Some hosting providers offer redirect services through their “control panels”, so you don’t have to perform low level changes on the .htaccess file itself. Instead, they provide a user friendly interface for this. Check with your hosting provider to see what the optimal way to perform a 301 redirect is in your case. I will continue the article with the barebones solution.

If there is a .htaccess file already in existence with lines of code present, be very careful not to change any existing line unless you are familiar with the functions of the file.

Scroll down past all the existing code, leave a line space, then create a new line that follows this example:

It's as easy as that. Save the file, upload it back into your web and test it out by typing in the old address to the page you've changed. You should be instantly and seamlessly transported to the new location.

Notes: Be sure not to add "http://www" to the first part of the statement - just put the path from the top level of your site to the page. Also ensure that you leave a single space between these elements:

redirect 301 (the instruction that the page has moved)

/folder/page1.htm (the original folder path and file name)

http://www.you.com/folder/custom_usb_drives.htm (new path and file name)

The same format applies not only to renamed files, but also to files moved to a different location.

The 301 redirect is the safest way to preserve your rankings. On the next indexing (crawling, spidering), the search engine robot will obey the rule indicated in your .htaccess file and index the new page name every time a link or its internal database tries to access the old page. In the next update (again, this could take months), the old file name and path will be dropped and replaced with the new one. Sometimes you may see alternating old/new file names during the transition period, along with some possible fluctuations in rankings as things settle. Don't panic, this is normal.

What if your site is hosted on a Microsoft IIS server instead?

If you have access to the server, do this: In internet services manager, right click on the file or folder you wish to redirect. Select the radio titled "a redirection to a URL". Enter the redirection page, check "The exact url entered above" and the "A permanent redirection for this resource". Click "Apply".

When you are on a page containing links to images or movies, you can download some or all of them at once. Moving the mouse over the items in the menu will highlights the links directly in the page to make sure they are the ones you want to pick up. DownloadHelper also allows you to download files one by one, so that you keep bandwidth to surf for other stuff to download. To modify your preferences, like changing the download directory, right-click on the icon and choose "Preferences". When you first install the extension, your browser is redirected to a welcome page with links to a user manual at http://www.downloadhelper.net/manual.php and a faq at http://www.downloadhelper.net/faq.php This does not change your homepage setting and the welcome page won't appear anymore. [6.2] It is He who has created you from clay. He has decreed a term for you and another
one set with Him. Yet you are still in doubt.
[6.3] He is Allah in the heavens and earth. He has knowledge of all that you hide and all
that you reveal. He knows what you earn.
[6.4] Yet every time a sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord, they turn away from it.
[6.5] They belied the truth when it came to them, but there shall come to them news of that they were mocking.
[6.6] Have they not seen how many generations We have destroyed before them whom
We had established in the land in a way We never established you, sending down for
them abundant water from the sky and made the rivers to flow underneath them? Yet
because they sinned, We destroyed them and raised up other generations after them.
[6.7] Had We sent down to you a Book on parchment and they touched it with their own
hands, those who disbelieved would say: 'This is nothing but plain magic.'
[6.8] They ask: 'Why has no angel been sent down to him?' If We had sent down an
angel, their fate would have been determined and they would never have been respited.
[6.9] If We had made him an angel, We would have given him the resemblance of a man,
and would have as such confused them with that in which they are already confused.
[6.10] Other Messengers have been mocked before you. But those who scoffed at them were encompassed by that they had mocked.'
[6.11] Say: 'Travel the land and see what was the fate of those who belied.'
[6.12] Say: 'To whom belongs that which is in the heavens and the earth?' Say: 'To
Allah. He has written for Himself mercy, andSwill gather you on the Day of Resurrection
in which there is no doubt. Those who have lost their souls, they do not believe.'
[6.13] His is whatever is at rest in the night and in the day. He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
[6.14] Say: 'Should I take any but Allah for a guardian? He is the Originator of the
heavens and the earth. He feeds and is notofed.' Say: 'I was commanded to be the first
to submit to Him.' Do not be one of thenidolaters.
[6.15] Say: 'Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a great Day.'
[6.16] From whomsoever it is averted on that Day, He will have mercy on him; that is a clear triumph.
[6.17] If Allah visits you with affliction, none can remove it except He; and if He touches
you with good, indeed, He has poweruover all things.
[6.18] He is the Conqueror over His worshipers. He is the Wise, the Aware.
[6.19] Say: 'What thing is greatest in testimony?' Say: 'Allah is a witness between me
and you. This Koran has been revealed toyme in order that I can warn you and all whom

465.Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Allah Ta'Ala has ordained fasting in
Ramadhan compulsory, and I have decreed (by the command of Allah) wakefulness at
night (i.e. Taraweeh, etc.) Sunnat. Whoever in the state of Imaan and the belief
of thawaab fasts in Ramadhan and stays awake at night (i.e. for taraweeh),
emerges from sin, purified as the day when his mother gave birth to him."

466.Hadhrat Abu bin Umar (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad
(peace be upon him) said: "Fasting and the Qu'ran will intercede on behalf of
one on the Day of Qiyaamah. The Fast will proclaim: 'O Allah! I prevented him
from eating at carnal desire. Therefore for my sake accept my intercession on
his behalf.' The Qu'ran will proclaim: 'I prevented him from sleep. Therefore
accept my intercession on his behalf.' The intercession of both will be
accepted."

467 Hadhrat Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with him) narrates, in a lengthy hadith,
that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Fasting is exclusively for Allah
Ta'ala. The thawaab of it (being limitless) no one knows besides Allah Ta'ala."
(Tibrani, Baihaqi).

468.Hadhrat Abu Saeed Khudri (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad
(peace be upon him) said: "The doors of the Heavens are opened up on the first
night of Ramadhan. Not a single Door (among the Doors of Heaven) is then closed
until the last night of Ramadhan. For every Salaat performed (this refers to
Taraweeh Salaat) during the nights of Ramadhan, Allah Ta'ala records one and a
half thousand good deeds for every Sajdah (of the Salaat). And, for the fasting
person, Allah Ta'ala creates in Jannat a mansion of red Ya'koot (a precious
stone in Jannat). This mansion will have seven thousand entrances. (So huge will
these entrances be that in each entrance will be located) a palace of gold
adorned with red Ya'koot. When the Muslims fast the first day if Ramadhan, Allah
Ta'ala forgives all his sins committed from the first of the previous Ramadhan.
Daily (i.e. during Ramadhan) from the time of Fajr Salat until sunset, seventy
thousand Malaaikah supplicate for his forgiveness. In return for every Sajdah
which he (the fasting person) makes, of any Salat, whether during the day or
night, he will obtain (such a wonderful) tree (so huge) that a horseman will
take five hundred years to pass under its shade."
