First Contact Con April 4-5, Bozeman MT

According to Star Trek lore, humankind’s first contact with an intelligent human species will happen on April 5, 2063, in Bozeman, Montana. It has seemed only natural to a group of Star Trek fans and other self-proclaimed nerds to establish a First Contact Con in Bozeman, Montana. In 2026, Kathy is a featured speaker – an ambassador, as it were, from the Federate Whorl and the Star Wars universe.

If you happen to be in the area and want to attend, you can register and see the schedule of events at the First Contact Convention website.

Progress report, continued

In the excitement of FIREBREAK finally entering the world, here’s a progress report on Books #2 and #3 in the Firebird Interlude Trilogy.

As of March 2026, Firebird Interlude Trilogy #2 has been turned in to Enclave Publishing for its developmental edit, and Kathy is hard at work on the rough draft of Firebird Interlude Trilogy #3.

BOOK TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT

Re-reading her “Firebird” series while recovering from long COVID-19 in 2023, Kathy became acutely aware of the years-long gap in the series between Crown of Fire and the next-generation Wind and Shadow. The Firebird Interlude Trilogy will begin to fill in those years, with the first book coming in March 2026.

Realm Makers

I had a wonderful time at the annual Realm Makers conference, co-teaching with fellow author Ronie Kendig. Our continuing session on writing science fiction was well attended and well received. Ronie made me feel like a rock star.

During the Friday evening Realm Awards banquet, as I sat watching the yearly parade of wonderful SF/fantasy costumes, I thought, “Someday, if someone chooses to cosplay one of my characters, I will be a very happy woman.”

The next morning, a lovely young redhead informed me that next year, she wants to dress as Lady Firebird.

I am, indeed, a very happy woman.

And (fanfare, please! This is the BIG news) the official countdown has begun for the September “cover reveal” for the first book in my forthcoming Firebird Interlude trilogy, and I absolutely love the cover art by the wonderful Kirk DouPonce. WOW.
