Very last minute i received the request to drive over to “zeeland” to shoot a practice match between selectie and SBV Excelsior. There wasn’t much light left so shooting was not the easiest thing but i think i made some pretty decent shots.

Another match this week, Sparta Rotterdam – AEK Larnaca, a practice match between 2 energetic teams. With good weather and a lot of good action it was a good match to shoot. I believe there are some amazing shots in the collection so take a look.

I got invited to try out for Pro Shots by shooting at the first match between Feyenoord and SC Feyenoord. While shooting at the only 20% filled stadium i knew this is what i wanted to do more often. Post processing workflow video

A while a go i blogged about my current workflow, actually since i shoot a lot more and need to caption and edit my work differently I’m searching for the new perfect workflow for myself. But for those interested here is a old workflow video i made when editing and selecting in Aperture 3 and Adobe Lightroom.Old post: “This weekend i shot a field hockey match close to my home. During half time i got a great idea “What if i screencasted my whole workflow and publish it on the blog in fast forward”. So this is what i did. In this video I show you the selecting procedure in Apple Lightroom then developing it in Adobe Lightroom, then exports it back to Aperture for my copyright and final uploading it to my flickr account.”

Second body: Canon EOS 7D

Maybe I’m just spoiled, but shooting sports with just 1 body is a hell! However, since this weekend I acquired a new toy. The Canon EOS 7D, for me it was a decision between a upgrade to the 1D Mark IV or a second body the 7D. While I was sceptic about the Auto Focus tracking and the quality difference of the 1D series’s body in comparison to the 7D, but actually I’m blown away. The quality, resolution and tracking performance is amazing! To give it an honest comparison I still need to try it on a field hockey or soccer game, but for my tests so far it out performed my expectations. The only critique on the cam I have is the controls, I made to many mistakes on exedently pressing buttons and flipping switches, but hopefully this change after some more practice. If you are considering I would definitely suggest to go for it. No its no 1D, No its not as solid and No its no pro-cam but as a second body, or as a first body for a starting shooter upgrading from a xxxD or xxD it’s awesome!

Shooting some soccer

Since last week, I took some assignment’s trough Cor Vos (Thanks to Michel Bierhuizen). This weekend was some more soccer for me, shot with a 400mm 2.8 and with my own 70-200 2.8 II. Just seen that I received my first publication in a newspaper yesterday so does this mean I am really moving upwards

Dutch championships boxing

Past weekend I got invited to come along in a shoot for the dutch championships boxing in Rotterdam, since this is a sport I do not often shoot, actually never done it at all, I was pretty excited. Coming this close to such boxing matches are amazing, I have never been to such an event at all, and now I’m almost in the ring. Photography wise it wasn’t easy, dark room, and quick action.

Giro d’italia proloog Amsterdam

This weekend the Netherlands turn pink. The Giro d’Italia has arrived in our country starting with the 8th of may with a prologue. Of course i was attending this special event in the middle of the Amsterdam center. I was amazed with the amount of audience. I think it was a great success and i hope you will think the same about the photos.

3rd hockey play-off – Laren – Amsterdam

Just a few hours ago the 3rd match between Laren and Amsterdam has been played. In this half finals Amsterdam won the first match, but Laren won the others, Laren will be competing against Den Bosch for the national championship. Photography wise the conditions where not optimal, only the first 20min i managed to get enough light to make some decent shots, the second half was hard, shots turned out ok but for a perfectionist as i am it will be never good enough.

New Lens: Canon 70-200 F/2.8L IS II

Finally, i got a new lens, after using the old Canon 70-200 without much happiness i finally bought the new big brother. It costs way to much but after using it in a few sport shoots now i really really love it. Its way faster, sharper, has more contrast and the shots are a lot more saturated. I am 100% sure it is going to be my favorite all round lens. For field hockey its perfect to shoot for like 1/4th of the field, in the near future combined with a 300 2.8 (with 1.4 tc) it is going to be my favorite sport setup (with a second body of course) Checkout my latest 2 fieldhockey sets for pictures i made with this baby!

Hockey play-offs Laren – Amsterdam

It’s sunday and the return match for Laren – Amsterdam is here. This is possibly one of the worst days to shoot outdoor, it rains like hell and the weather sealing of my Canon 1d Mark III and 70-200 is getting tests to its max, even after i dried my camera it still drips water, but it seems to do fine. Should really buy myself a new rain cover. Anyhow the match was great both teams really gave their maximum and resulted in a 4-1 win for Laren which means Wednesday night there will be a 3rd match for the finals. In the other match Den Bosch already places them selves for the finals so what will it be Den Bosch – Laren or Den Bosch – Amsterdam. Field hockey season has almost reached its ending, for the women the regular competition has been finished already the last matches started for the top 4 positions. Play-off time! the first match was in Amsterdam, AH&BC – Laren. which ended in a 3-1 win for Amsterdam. Tomorrow the return match will be played.
