I so prefer public transportation but thanks to GPS and free parking I made the drive in to Boston. Despite tons of traffic getting out of there, it worked out ok.

The venue was beautiful (albiet more spread out than last year’s PCB2) and I immediately headed up to the 3rd floor for some coffee and to put down my bags and get a look at the schedule. I finally got to meet @DougH whom I’ve interacted with online for quite some time and was introduced to Steve Coulson of the Advanced Guard and YesButNoButYes fame while chatting with CC Chapman. Apparently, I made his day by raving about how much I love my daily visits to his site. I hung out by the Utterz booth and talked to them awhile and took home my very own Bessie :-).

When it was time to head down for the unkeynote, I settled in to the auditorium and stayed for David Fisher’s presentation on Advanced Audio Techniques, then CC’s Personal Branding session. Of course, it was nice to see old friends like Len Edgerly (even if we didn’t get lost together this year) and meet a some folks that I’ve only seen online on Twitter and Seesmic like @philcampbell, @chriscavs, @jeffhinz, (Mike) @istarman, (Sarah) @rojopelo, (Tracy) @tapps, (Dana) @wankergirl and many more. While I didn’t hang with those Seesmic folks and missed out on the Seesmic Session and the live Push My Follow recording it was still nice to meet face to face even briefly. I told myself before I got there that this year I would go up to people to introduce myself and I’m glad I did.

After hitting the food court and meeting Keith Burtis at lunch I took in Chris Brogan’s Social Media session then the Extreme Website Makeover with Chris Penn, Michele Wolverton, and Whitney Hoffman. I picked up some good tips in that one, specifically a site called Website Grader and the All in One SEO Pack plug-in for Wordpress. It’s not that I’m producing my content for business purposes but heck, if I’m going to do all the work it might as well be found!

While it was a relatively mellow podcamp for me, (compared to the highly social experience for many of the campers) it was nice, productive day which got my wheels spinning just in time for daily podcasts and training camp reports from Patriots Training Camp, which opens this Thursday, July 24th! I’ve still got lots to do before then but it was a most excellent weekend!

While I like water, sometimes I’m in the mood for something different. Instead of drinking bottles of premade diet green iced tea with citrus, I’ve been brewing a pot of green tea in the morning, adding my own lemon and ginger and putting it on ice to drink throughout the day. I prefer this to the bottled version for a number of reasons:

It’s not sweet which is the way I like my drinks.

There are no artificial sweeteners, colors, or chemicals in it.

I can water it down as much as I like.

One tea bag will brew enough for me to drink weak iced tea all day.

It costs me just pennies instead of dollars per day if I were to drink bottled green tea.

There’s no individual packaging to have to recycle (or pay for)

Even the teabag and lemon rinds end up in compost bin.

It’s fresh and delicious!

The second green tip is so simple that I’m amazed. I woke up the other morning after a huge rainstorm to find that I had lots of little tiny ants around my sink. Not wanting to use spray chemicals or purchase ant cakes, I googled for a natural solution. Lo and behold, the suggestion to sprinkle baby powder along their point of entry to prevent them from crossing over it, actually worked! So, my sink area looked like I had gone on a bake fest and failed to clean up the scattered flour for a couple of days but it was worth it! So far, no more ants.

These are just two easy, cheap, and green solutions for every day situations which cut out the chemicals, saved me some money, and didn’t harm the earth. What do you do?

Well, I managed to finish my bathroom painting project and I’m really happy with the way it turned out. Despite having to do multiple coats of paint to cover what was there and parlaying it into a 2.5 day job, I’m glad I did it. I’m hoping to finally open a book tomorrow for the first time all week.

Right now, I’m trying to figure out why the podpress player isn’t displaying on my podcast page since upgrading to wordpress 2.5.1. There’s actually a 2.6 version out right now but I’m trying to get to the bottom of this issue before adding another upgrade to the mix and ending up twice removed…

So, tomorrow looks like a work around the yard day and get caught up on all that I let slide while putting on my handy man hat.

I’ve been extremely busy running errands and working around the yard but man… I LOVE MY SUMMER LIFE!! It’s the simple things that really make me happy:

Getting up early with my dogs and listening to the birds

Walking every day

Being with family

Having a clean house

Weeding a bit each day and staying on top of it

Hanging a load or two on the line every morning

Doing the daily crossword and sudoku puzzles

Reading as much as I can

Wearing my “summer uniform” (bike shorts, tee, sandals)

Composting and living green

Getting in bed early with my dogs, books, and laptop

Rolling over and turning out the light any time I want

Of course, once Patriots Training Camp starts on July 24th, my life will change considerably as I’ll be “on duty” and my free time will be cut way back. However, I do hope to keep up with as much as I can. For now, I’m planning on enjoying each and every moment of being home.
