Sam Cotten was the guest speaker this week. He brought a deep and fresh sermon walking through the various covenants in Scripture and showing that we are, among other things, bound to Christ in covental, unchangeable relationship. After listening to this, you may not be able to look at the cross the same way again!

Debt is Dumb

Recently I used an illustration in my sermon (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=203 Itemid=55) called Debt is Dumb . I originally heard this from pastor Matt Chandler and thought it was a great example of some of the silly things we do in church that seem good on the surface but are ultimately void of the gospel. Our hilarious worship leader, Jessica Cotten, took it on herself to write a song parody with her husband, Joseph, as a beautifully sarcastic example of the sort of silly things we do to worship. I laugh every time I hear Joseph say debt is dumb! in the background. Listen for a special appearance by Pippen their wonder dog at the end. This is yet another reason why I love my church!

Every church comes to a point where it has to decide what kind of church it will be. It has to decide if it is going to be a place that exists only to feed itself, or if it will become a place that not only feeds itself but also goes out into the world to rescue it. I believe KCC is at such a moment of decision. This decision is not made in a singular moment in a meeting, rather it is made as each one of us begings to leave our personal hiding places to do what God has called us to do.

John 1:1-18 - The Word

We began our tour through the Gospel of John this week by taking on the prologue (John 1:1-18). There's a lot to mine out in these few scriptures. John gives us some deep truths as well as introduces us to some themes that carry through the entire book.
