Full 10-Hour Northbound I-405 Freeway Closures at Santa Monica Boulevard in West L.A. Planned May 17, 18

On the nights of Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. The northbound side will be closed.
“Because these closures are twice as long as the normal five-hour night-time freeway closures, motorists are advised to plan ahead, avoid the area or take alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion”, reports Metro.

Northbound Santa Monica Boulevard off and on-ramps will remain open.

• Detour: Exit at the Santa Monica Boulevard off-ramp, go straight through traffic light and enter the Santa Monica Boulevard on-ramp.
• Traffic control officers will be deployed.
• CHP will be monitoring the area surrounding the closure.

The following ramps will be closed during the 10-hour closures:

• Northbound Olympic Boulevard on-ramp
• Santa Monica Boulevard from Sawtelle Boulevard to Sepulveda Boulevard
• I-10 west connector to northbound I-405
• I-10 east connector to northbound I-405

Full 10-hour northbound freeway closures between the Santa Monica Bl off-ramp and Santa Monica Bl on-ramp are
scheduled for the nights of Friday, May 10, Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 11pm to 9am.
The full northbound freeway closures at Santa Monica Bl are scheduled to facilitate the approach slab repair (the connection between the freeway and the freeway bridge).

Full northbound I-405 closure from Santa Monica Boulevard to Wilshire
planned from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. Friday

Detour:
Exit at the Santa Monica Boulevard off-ramp, right on Santa Monica Boulevard, left on Sepulveda Boulevard, right on Wilshire to the northbound I-405 on-ramp.
Traffic control officers will be deployed.
CHP will be monitoring the area surrounding the closure.

Saturday, May 11
C.I.C.L.E., the East Side Bike Club, Metro and the Dodgers will kick off Bike Week Los Angeles with the “Bikes, Baseball and Dodger Blue Ride,” a special bicycle ride between historic landmarks Union Station and Dodger Stadium at Chavez Ravine to watch the Dodgers battle the Miami Marlins. Meet-up is at 2 p.m. in front of Union Station (Alameda), departure at 2:30 p.m. For additional ride details, visit www.cicle.org.

Monday, May 13
Bicycle initiatives will be highlighted during Bike Week LA.  During the Bike Week LA kickoff ceremony Monday, May 13 at Grand Park beginning at 10 a.m., Metro, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), Los Angeles Dodgers, the City of South Pasadena, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC), and Cyclists Inciting Change through LIVE Exchange (C.I.C.L.E.) will announce specific initiatives that promote bicycling during Bike Week LA and year-round.

Tuesday, May 14
Metro also supports the annual interfaith Blessing of the Bicycles at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 14. For more information, visit www.goodsam.org.

Wednesday, May 15
C.I.C.L.E., LACBC, and other bicycle groups will host several guided bike rides on Wednesday, May 16 on bicycle lanes and bicycle routes around Los Angeles County, including Culver City, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, downtown Los Angeles, and South LA.

Thursday, May 16
Metro and other municipal transit providers will offer free rides to bicyclists on Metro buses and trains throughout Los Angeles County.

Friday, May 17 Through Sunday, May 19 – Bike Local Weekend
All weekend Metro’s Destination Discount partners will offer bicyclists discounts who mention “Bike Week” at over 60 retailers and other venues.

All Metro buses are equipped with front bike racks. Bikes may also be taken on Metro trains. On Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 16, Metro will offer free rides to bicyclists on Metro buses and trains throughout Los Angeles County. Culver CityBus, Glendale Beeline, LADOT, Long Beach Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Norwalk Transit, Pasadena ARTS, Santa Clarita Transit and Torrance Transit will also offer free transit rides to bicyclists who board with a bicycle or bicycle helmet. Metrolink will offer free transit rides to bicyclists who board with a bicycle.

 My day went something like this, how was your day?

As I finish this post tonight, the Springs Fire has scorched over 8,000 acres, is 10% contained and burned from the 101 all the way to PCH in Malibu . Around 6:30 a.m. reports started coming in about a small brush fire in Camarillo. It quickly became a monster and was now licking it’s chops at the edge of my little neighborhood in Newbury Park.

May Day Marches will make driving and taking public transportation downtown Los Angeles tomorrow TODAY awful! Street closures are expected to last through 8 p.m.

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation posted a list of DASH detours for Wednesday, starting at 11:30 a.m.

“Most intersections on either side of Broadway — Hill and Spring streets, between Olympic and Ord Street — will be closed.

Route A:

City west direction: All westbound stops along 1st Street between Main Street and Hill will not be served. Westbound passengers are advised to use the alternative stop along 1st and Grand Avenue.

Little Tokyo Direction: All eastbound stops along 1st Street between Hill and Main will not be served. Eastbound passengers are advised to use the alternative stop at 1st and San Pedro Street (southeast corner).

Route B:

All stops from Temple and Hill to Broadway and Alpine Street (in both directions) will not be served. Passengers are advised to utilize alternative stops at Grand Avenue and Temple or Alpine Street and Broadway. Passengers who need to make their transit connections at Union Station may use the MTA Red and Blue lines.

Route D:

South Park: The following southbound stops will not be served: Temple between Los Angeles Street and Main; Spring between Temple and Olympic; Hill between Olympic & Pico Boulevard.

Passengers are advised to use alternative stops on Temple at Judge John Aiso Street, Los Angeles at 3rd Street, Los Angeles at 8th Street, or Pico at Hill.

Union Station: The following northbound stops will not be served: Hill between 12th Street and Olympic; Main between 1st and 2nd Street; the stop located along Temple at Los Angeles.

Passengers are advised to use stops on 12th Street at Broadway, Los Angeles at 2nd, Los Angeles at 1st or Temple at Judge John Aiso.

Route E:

City west direction: All westbound stops along 7th Street between Los Angeles and Grand will not be served. Westbound passengers are advised to use the alternative stop on 7th at Flower Street;

Fashion district direction: All eastbound stops along 7th between Olive Street and Los Angeles will not be served. Eastbound passengers are advised to use the alternative stop on Los Angeles at 8th”, reports the LA Times.

This Saturday, May 4, Metro Expo Line service will be shut down between 23^rd Street Station and 7^th St/Metro Center in downtown Los Angeles to replace a support pole damaged earlier this month.

Train service will run only between Culver City Station and 23^rd Street Station beginning at 8 p.m. up until close of service. A bus bridge (shuttle bus service) will be implemented between 23^rd Street Station and Grand Station (Metro Blue Line).

Traveling from 23^rd Street Station to downtown, you will have to use the bus bridge and transfer at Grand Station to a downtown-bound Metro Blue Line train.

Wrong-way driver hit a support pole last week. The support pole was damaged on Thursday, April 4, when a wrong-way driver on Flower Street struck and knocked over one of the poles that helps support the overhead wires supplying power to trains.

What about the game? Those heading to the game three of the Kings/Blues series on the Expo Line may want to plan ahead as the bus bridge will be in effect when the game ends.
