If you’ve been a fan or otherwise of the Windows operating system over the course of the many years it’s been with us then you’ll probably be watching the looming release date for version 8 with interest. Those who have experience the hugely revised OS are already claiming it to be something of a revelation, especially compared to some of the older incarnations that many of us choose, or have to use, on a daily basis.

So what can we expect from the latest edition of the Microsoft operating system? Well, it certainly seems more than likely that better performance is going to be on the cards, with a less crashworthy experience than most of us have witnessed over the years of using older versions. You’ll be able to enjoy a much more user- friendly experience too, with the option of working via touchscreen controls or a conventional mouse.

New way forward

The new interface is certainly much nicer than the clunky one of old, with a colourful workspace that looks very similar to the one found on the latest Windows Phone UI. This workspace has also been optimised to provide a much more functional area to get around, with quick and easy access to all of your regularly used controls, plus a few that aren’t called on quite so regularly.

Behind all that is the Windows that we know and love, but there has clearly been a lot of work carried out with the way things tick in order to produce a much more streamlined way of working. If you’re going down the touchscreen route then you can swipe and gesture to great effect in order to take full control of the fun and functionality of this new work area and its associated controls.

You’ll also find that Windows 8 will feature a lot more integration with apps, and allow you to jump between them in rapid succession. However, one main thing you’ll notice is that there’s no more Start menu, which most of us are familiar with on previous versions of the software. In fact, you might well find that the new way of working onscreen makes things a little strange to get used to, but perseverance delivers an improved experience that again works best of all on touchscreen-enabled devices.

You’ll also find that a lot of the apps that come as standard within the new OS have everything you need to get through most of the daily computing tasks you’ll need to do. There’s the likes of WordPad, Paint, Notepad and all of the associated software for playing multimedia and it also seems to work to much greater effect than earlier editions. Add to that the quick and easy integration with your Windows Live Account information and you have a relatively seamless experience at hand.

As is the case with any new update of an operating system, there are clearly still areas of Windows 8 that need to be tweaked and fine-tuned. Nevertheless, for people looking out for an easier to use OS that also embraces modern thinking, particularly in the area of apps and touchscreen functionality, then this is definitely going to prove mighty popular with many computer users.

Researchers from the University of Bergen, Norway, have identified six signs that indicate a person's likelihood Facebook addiction. Researchers conducted a test called Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale to 423 students to help find out whether someone has an addiction to social media.

The results showed that six signs of a person's addiction, spent much time thinking about Facebook, or plan to use Facebook, feel should be used continuously, and using Facebook to forget personal matters.

In addition it is felt nervous and confused when barred from using Facebook, trying to reduce its use but does not work, and use up too much to have a negative impact on work or study.

"The use of Facebook has increased considerably. We are dealing with a part of Internet addiction that is connected to social media," said Cecilie Schou Andreassen, who led the research.

Addiction is mostly seen among young people. Through this study also found people who are anxious and feel unsafe socially using Facebook more, possibly because they find it easier to communicate through social media rather than face to face.

"Women are more at risk of addiction to Facebook, probably because of the social nature of Facebook," Andreassen said, as quoted by LiveScience pages. In addition, this study shows people who organized and tend to be more ambitious Facebook addiction. They use social media as an integral part of the work and the network.

And research results about Facebook addiction has been published in the journal "Psychological Reports".
