The Backstory

I was so excited and honored when Locale Magazine reached out about doing a cover story and shoot.

They had a vision for an Audrey Hepburn-inspired shoot for their February 2019 issue, which happens to be their Modernism Week issue, so I was over the moon….river (sorry, couldn’t resist). I love that there are Jackie O. vibes too (can someone please teach me how to do that hair flip to my hair?).

Everything was shot at our home — aka Villa Golightly — back in October 2018 and it’s SO fun to see how it all turned out all these months later.

My Palm Springs Restaurant Guide

When we first arrived in Palm Springs in 2010, the restaurant scene was… let’s just say a little hit-or-miss. Fast forward to today, and Palm Springs has become a true food lover’s destination, with an ever-growing lineup of standout restaurants, cafés, and hidden gems—so many, in fact, it can be hard to know where to start.

That’s where this guide comes in. As a Palm Springs local, I’m sharing my favorite places to eat in Palm Springs—the restaurants I personally love, return to often, and recommend time and time again. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend getaway or live here full-time, these are the best Palm Springs restaurants for everything from casual lunches to celebratory dinners and desert-worthy cocktails.

Best Restaurants in Palm Springs (Local Favorites)

The Pantry at Holiday House (Best for Brunch & Cozy Dinners)

Holiday House is a preppy-chic boutique hotel designed by Mark D. Sikes, known for his signature blue-and-white aesthetic. Tucked inside is The Pantry, a petite restaurant that’s a total gem—and one of our favorite spots in Palm Springs for both brunch, lunch and dinner.

Order the grilled artichokes, French fries, omelets, and (trust me) the piña coladas. They also host Fried Chicken Fridays and Taco Tuesdays. Seating is very limited, so call ahead to make sure there’s room.

Note: Brunch is temporarily paused, but coming back October 4, 2026.

The Barn Kitchen at Sparrows Lodge (Intimate, Reservation-Only Dining)

How did we sleep on this place for so long? I assumed it wouldn’t be my vibe based on the rustic aesthetic—but wow, was I wrong. Like The Pantry, seating is very limited and prioritized for hotel guests, so reservations are a must.

Order the fish dish. Don’t overthink it.

Le Vallauris (Classic French Fine Dining in Palm Springs)

This old-school French-inspired restaurant near the Palm Springs Art Museum (and recently acquired by Soho House) is a total throwback—in the best way. Think tuxedoed waiters, classic French fare, and a tree-shaded garden patio that feels like stepping back in time.

The halibut or white fish of the day is outstanding. And the soufflés! Come to mama. Bonus: the soufflés and crème brûlée are gluten-free.

Norma’s at The Parker Palm Springs (Iconic Brunch, Drinks & Dinner)

Located inside The Parker Palm Springs and designed by Jonathan Adler, Norma’s is my favorite spot in Palm Springs for drinks, brunch, or dinner with friends. And it’s endlessly Instagrammable. Bonus: Breakfast in served until 3pm.

Favorites include the fish tacos, chocolate decadence French toast, and blueberry pancakes. When the desert chill sets in at night, they bring out heat lamps and cozy blankets—chef’s kiss. Service can be slow at times, but you’re on Palm Springs time. Sit back and enjoy.

Melvyn’s at the Ingleside Inn (Old Hollywood Steakhouse Experience)

Want the full Rat Pack experience? Melvyn’s at the Ingleside Inn delivers. Tuxedoed servers (often octogenarians), tableside classics like Steak Diane and Wilted Spinach Salad, and ice-cold martinis with very generous pours thanks to a grandfathered liquor license.

Not up for dinner? Pop in for a drink, enjoy the piano player, and watch the blue-haireds tear up the dance floor.
Note: Gentlemen need pants and a jacket.

The Colony Club at The Colony Palms (Poolside Dining with a View)

Designed originally by Martyn Lawrence Bullard and later refreshed by Steve Hermann, The Colony Palms is a green-and-white striped paradise.

Dining at The Colony Club means mountain views, pretty people lounging by the pool, cooling misters, and a vibe that feels undeniably Palm Springs.

Chi Chi at The Avalon Hotel (Best for Brunch & Lunch)

While they do serve dinner, I love Chi Chi most for brunch and lunch. Located inside The Avalon, designed by Kelly Wearstler, this boutique hotel is laid-back chic heaven. Again, I prefer dining poolside here.

Order the chilaquiles and soak it all in.

Bar Cecil & Beaton’s (Buzzy New Favorites)

Two newer additions to the Palm Springs dining scene —both stylish, buzzy, and worth adding to your list. The trick to getting a reservation at Bar Cecil is to book on Open Table at midnight (when they release new tables).

Note: You can’t book in advance for more than 2 weeks out. Beaton’s is the new bar addition next door, where you can grab drinks and appetizers while you wait or head for after-dinner libations and late-night nibbles.

Farm (Charming Downtown Brunch Spot)

A charming downtown restaurant in a Provencal garden setting that’s especially popular for brunch. A classic for a reason.

Note: They don’t take reservations for brunch but we’ve also gotten in quickly. They do take reservations for dinner, however.

Clandestino (Excellent Mexican & Latin Food)

Upscale Mexican and Latin food can often be overrated and not hit the spot. This is the EXACT opposite. The Creamy Cilantro Salmon dish served with crispy potatoes and bacon  is next level but so are the classics: nachos, chips and salsa. Now I’m hungry!

They serve lunch and dinner.

18 More Palm Springs Restaurants I Enjoy

While the list above represents my Top Palm Springs restaurant recommendations, it’s far from exhaustive. These are 18 additional restaurants I’ve enjoyed over the years—maybe not Top 10 status, but still very solid options if you’re looking to branch out.

Mr. Lyons Steakhouse (Best Steak in Palm Springs)

The best steak in Palm Springs, hands down. Filet mignon, potatoes mousseline, wedge salad—and a dark, moody interior I love.

Bar Issi (Chic Cocktails & Mediterranean-Inspired Plates)

A stylish, buzzy maximalist spot located next to the Thompson Palm Springs, Bar Issi serves up Coastal Italian cuisine. Great for cocktails, small plates, and lingering conversations in a chic, social setting.

The Pink Cabana at the Sands Hotel (Stylish Dining in Palm Desert)

Designed by Martyn Lawrence Bullard, the Sands Hotel is a pink-and-green dream with Moroccan and Mediterranean influences—and the food lives up to the design. Located right on the border of Palm Desert and Indian Wells, it’s a great spot when you’re “down Valley” (Valley = Coachella Valley; this is about 30 minutes from Palm Springs proper). If it had been IN Palm Springs proper, then this spot would be in my Top 10.The dining room can get loud when it’s bustling, so we prefer eating al fresco on the front patio.

Workshop Kitchen + Bar (Award-Winning Design & Seasonal Menu)

A favorite among many locals. The interiors are cool (very New York), but I prefer eating outside. James Beard Award–winning design and a great whole fish.

SO.PA at L’Horizon (Upscale Dining & Cocktails)

Located at L’Horizon Hotel. Pricey margaritas, but excellent. Service has been hit-or-miss for me, though it’s considered one of the nicer meals in the desert.

Lola Rose (Lively Dinner Spot with a Social Vibe)

A fun, modern addition to the Palm Springs dining scene with a lively atmosphere and a Levantine-inspired menu that’s perfect for sharing. Ideal for a casual night out when you want something upbeat, sexy and social.

King’s Highway at Ace Hotel (Casual Brunch & Diner Classics)

Inside The Ace Hotel—hipster diner vibes. Best for brunch, but open from 7am-10pm daily.

Sherman’s Deli (New York-Style Comfort Food)

Not pretty, but unbeatable comfort food. Matzo ball soup, massive sandwiches and salads, and an irresistible dessert case.

Tyler’s Burgers (Family-Friendly Burgers & Shakes)

Great burgers, fries, shakes—and kid-friendly.

Jake’s Palm Springs (California Cuisine & Legendary Cakes)

Solid California cuisine—but let’s be honest, I come for the cake. Gigantic slices from Over the Rainbow Desserts that are truly life-affirming.

Cheeky’s (Popular Breakfast Spot with a Line)

Bacon flight? Mimosa? Yes. Long lines, yes but often worth it. If the wait is brutal, try Jake’s, Chi Chi, or Farm nearby.

Birba (Thin-Crust Pizza & Garden Patio)

Thin-crust pizza, excellent cocktails, and a dreamy garden setting. Gluten-free pizza available (same oven, so cross-contamination risk).

Las Casuelas Terraza (Lively Tex-Mex Favorite)

Is it touristy? Yes. Is it also beloved by locals? Some. Am I one of them? YES! This family-owned restaurant has been around since 1958, which says all you need to know. Fun, lively atmosphere with live music on the patio and giant margaritas. Order the enchiladas suizas. You’re welcome.

Eight4Nine (Fun Cocktails & Instagrammable)

The pink chairs pulled me in. The fun drinks and good food kept me there.

Escena Grill (Golf Course Views & Sunset Dining)

Good food, great views. Located on a golf course with sunset dinners that feel Hawaii-adjacent. Excellent happy hour—inside only.

Mister Parker’s (Dark, Moody Fine Dining)

The dark, moody fine-dining sibling to Norma’s at The Parker. Perfect for a clandestine steak dinner with cheeky Jonathan Adler touches.

Wilma & Frieda’s (Indulgent Brunch Favorite)

Indulgent brunch favorite. I still dream about the blackberry custard French toast. In downtown Palm Springs and Palm Desert.

Boozehounds (Dog-Friendly Brunch & Craft Cocktails)

A Palm Springs favorite for cocktails, brunch, and dog-friendly hangs. The vibe is playful and relaxed, the drinks are strong, and yes—your pup is welcome on the patio.

Happy International Womens Day! I have something fun to share today: I’m on the cover of the 2019 Palm Springs City Guide magazine. Read all about it below, plus get the look!

First, a quote on International Womens Day from a true lifestyle pioneer:

This seems particular fitting, as you know my love for Palm Springs runs deep.

And any success I’ve had has been so intertwined with Palm Springs.

So to have the honor of getting to shoot the cover for the city I love with the person I love —  Fred Baby photographed the cover — is a dream.

THE VISION

The editor of the publication, Steven Henke, had a vision for “a modern woman in a brightly colored dress playing shuffleboard at the Holiday House.”

Holiday House is a charming boutique hotel designed by Mark D. Sikes of MDS Stripes fame.

Steven Henke’s vision for the publication was “the new Palm Springs.”

I loved the idea of juxtaposing old and new, the historical with the new troop of Palm Springs devotees. It’s always fun to get to collaborate with other creatives and see how things come together.

Since the idea was to be playing shuffleboard, I wanted to wear something that wasn’t just bright, but that also had great movement.

I knew Holiday House was all blue and white, and thought either hot pink or bright yellow would be ideal.

WHAT I WORE

Enter this amazing vintage yellow 1970s chiffon cape dress by Miss Elliette from Etsy.

It reminded me of this photo of Veruschka in a flowing yellow caftan, which has been inspiring me so much lately.

What’s funny is that right after we shot this, Trina Turk posted a photo wearing a similar vintage Pauline Trigere yellow cape dress. Isn’t it divine?

While you can’t get my exact dress, since it’s vintage, I liked options below that are nearly identical.

And the yellow chiffon hostess gown/caftan I’m wearing here is the same exact fabric and feel, minus the cape itself.

Palm Springs Vintage Shopping Guide

I’m excited to be sharing my Palm Springs Vintage Shopping Guide with you today! One of the top questions I get asked is: What are the best vintage shops in Palm Springs? Fellow vintage-lovers Beth and Devon wanted to know my favorite shops too, so we headed out on a little Palm Springs road trip to hunt for home decor treasures and more from eras past. Come along to see my favorite vintage shops and thrift stores in Palm Springs!

WHAT I WORE FOR OUR PALM SPRINGS VINTAGE SHOPPING ROAD TRIP

I opted for a ’60s glam-in-the-desert vibe with poppy sunset hues for a look that channeled another era but felt modern enough for today. After all, it’s the mix of old and new that makes an outfit (or a room) feel fresh, don’t you think?

Cute and comfy polka dots shorts, an arm party with a message, and wedges that were comfortable and tall enough for a day of shopping Between Two Blondes (tall, supermodel blondes, that is) in 105-degree temps and I was set.

My Favorite Vintage Shops & Thrift Stores

Now that you’ve seen what I wore for a day of shopping in Palm Springs, here’s where we went. There are many more gems in the desert, but these are the shops I go to time and time again and consider a must-shop for treasure-hunters, especially if it’s your first time visiting Palm Springs. Stay tuned for more guides sharing more vintage shops in the desert, plus my favorite stops and things to do in Palm Springs…

1. Angel View Thrift Shop & Angel View Prestige Boutique

454 N Indian Canyon Dr  Palm Springs, CA 92262

Hours: 10am-6p daily

Angel View Thrift Mart is where I head if I’m hunting for amazing deals on furniture and decor. Like most thrift stores, it’s hit or miss, but I’ve found everything from bamboo cane chairs to wicker furniture and even a swan table on recent visits to this location (there are several desert locations). Directly next door is Angel View Prestige Boutique, which houses the clothing side of things, where I recently scored an amazing bumblebee yellow blazer for $12. In the back are more housewares, mostly dishes and glassware. I got lucky and scored an amazing set of 25 blush pink champagne and cocktail glasses, each for only $.99.

Bonus: Proceeds go to help kids with disabilities (Regis Philbin’s son grew up in an Angel View children’s home in the high desert; random fact I know from reading Regis books like the crazy golden girl I am).

Tip: There’s a warehouse in the back that houses thousands of items like records and clothes in bins, and it’s said that the real deals happen here, but it’s not for the faint of heart. Dig at your own risk.

2. Dazzles

Hours: Wed-Sun, 10a-5p

Formerly located at the north end of Palm Springs but now in Rancho Mirage, it would be a travesty to miss this candy land of mid-century ice buckets, side tables, bakelite jewelry and glassware in every color the rainbow. It’s not thrift (i.e. vintage pieces having been repainted and restored) but the prices are fair and the owner’s friendly and a wealth of information on the thousands of pieces packed into the small shop. Doyenne of the desert Trina Turk is a fan too and, like me, wants to buy the groovy shelves that line the windows, but the owner graciously refuses. And who can blame him?

Bonus: A courtyard of flamingos greets you as you enter, providing the perfect Palm Springs photo op.

3. Bon Vivant

Hours: Thursday-Monday 10:30a-4p

Located in the Uptown Design District  of Palm Springs on Palm Canyon Drive, Trina Turk once told me this was her favorite store in Palm Springs and I couldn’t agree more. And the prices are very reasonable. What it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality — the tightly edited selection ensures you’ll find a gem every time you visit. I once found a Givenchy necklace from 1978 that made a great gift for my mother-in-law and have picked up countless birthday gifts here — and always find something for myself of course. Cufflinks, earrings, brooches and the best selection of owl necklaces I’ve ever seen in one place, plus vases, groovy glassware and mid-century home decorative items to spruce up your space. The owner is the nicest guy, too, which makes it all the better.

Tip: Catch one of the best iced coffees or a crisp iced tea or strawberry smoothie at nearby Koffi.

4. Revivals Palm Springs

Hours: Mon-Sat 10a-6p; Sun 10a-5pm 

Ah, the holy grail. There are five locations of Revivals in the desert but the one in Palm Springs is my go-to. It’s a thrifter’s paradise of pre-loved home furnishings and decor, plus clothing and jewelry too. There’s junk too, but I almost always find a gem. You can find me in the glassware section, scoring glasses for my bar cart. Sign up for their newsletter and be notified of their sales, including 50 percent-off days (usually Thursdays)!

Tip: There’s a new furniture section in the back, but it’s the throwback pieces in the front of the store that make my heart sing. I even spied the swan dining table that matched my swan sofa table that I’d just scored at Angel View! For Fred Baby’s sake, I resisted, but for the love of design will somebody please get that table (how fab would it look if you spraypainted/lacquered those swans?!)

Bonus: Proceeds benefit Desert AIDS Project.

Tip: Thirsty again? It’s the desert, you need to drink a lot! Palm Greens Cafe, directly next door to Revivals, serves yummy fresh blended juices, smoothies and natural root beer floats! They have lots of gluten-free and vegetarian/vegan options too.

5. Revivals Cathedral City

My Palm Springs Guide for Architectural Digest

I recently did a takeover for Architectural Digest on Instagram sharing some of my favorite Palm Springs spots. I love sharing all of the amazing architecture Palm Springs has to offer — and its colorful doors! I wanted to share my favorite Palm Springs spots here + share some BIG news.

It was fun to see which photos received the most likes and comments. I’ve listed that below, in case you’d like to see, but altogether the photos were shared with Architectural Digest’s 970,000+ followers and received over 85,000 likes and over 1000 comments. Pretty exciting!

And to give credit where it is majorly due, these photos were taken by my incredible husband, the amazing photographer Fred Moser (aka @fredbaby13 — follow him!). We are so grateful to be able to share our happy place with so many wonderful readers and are so thankful for your comments.

The Vista Las Palmas neighborhood in north Palm Springs is one of the best for midcentury eye candy and has a handful of charming Swiss Miss A-frames. Be sure to drive around and take in all of the perfectly preserved homes. It’s also the neighborhood Leonardo Di Caprio recently made his home when he acquired the Dinah Shore estate. Plus, you can find one of the most famous examples of midcentury architecture here, the Kaufmann House by architect Richard Neutra (470 W. Vista Chino).

Nearly as good as the groovy houses are the vintage cars you often see tooling around Palm Springs or parked outside spectacular homes, like this perfect pairing spotted in the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood. Talk about a #palmspringsdream!

Indian Canyons is another must-see neighborhood in Palm Springs. Discover stunning examples of midcentury and Hollywood Regency architecture, as well as colorful doors, with #thatpinkdoor at 1100 E. Sierra Way being the most popular. We were so inspired by the colorful doors of Palm Springs, literal works of art in their own right, that we created the fine art photography series The Real Houses of Palm Springs, find it on FredMoser.com and purephoto.com/kellyandfred.

The Real Aqua Doors of Palm Springs, which reside in the Indian Canyons neighborhood in south Palm Springs, are pure eye candy!

Poolside Gossip, photographed by Slim Aarons in 1970 at The Kaufmann House, is the most iconic photo ever taken in Palm Springs. Capturing two stylish women sipping cocktails poolside, the photo is the epitome of Palm Springs living. The women pictured, Nelda Linsk (former owner of the Kaufmann House) and her dear friend Helen Dzo Dzo Kaptur, reunited back at the house in 2015, 45 years after the original photo was taken, and we had the honor of capturing it. Poolside Reunion — and more photos from that day — are available online at fredmoser.com.

One of the best times to visit Palm Springs is in February for @modernism_week, a celebration of mid-century design and architecture. From lectures to poolside parties to home tours, it’s like Fashion Week for design buffs. A must-have ticket: #thechristopherkennedycompound showhouse, which raises funds for preservation and is spearheaded by celebrity designer @christopherkennedyinc. Alongside a roster of tastemakers such as @martynbullard and @carsonkressley, I had the pleasure of designing the dressing room, dubbed The Glam Cave. It’s fun to see everyone’s take on Palm Springs style (mine a clear ode to the @BevHillsHotel circa 1960, with the focal point being banana leaf wallpaper designed by @justinablakeney for @hyggeandwest).

One of our favorite activities in Palm Springs? Visiting open houses! Endless design inspiration, plus it’s free—how can you beat that? This is a peek (and a peak!) from the #DesertEichler house developed by @kudproperties, who’s creating a brand-new Eichler neighborhood in the desert, featuring the design and architecture beloved by Eichler fans but with modern updates.

Parched? Be sure to pop in to the @ParkerPalmSprings for a lemonade, and drink in the eye-popping interiors by @jonathanadler while you’re at it. It does NOT disappoint and he recently did a re-sprucing. Of course those iconic orange doors make a perfect photo-op. Palm Springs is chockfull of great boutique design hotels: the Hollywood Regency @AvalonHotels by @kellywearstler, the Moroccan-influenced @ColonyPalmsHotel by @MartynBullard and the sleek and chic @lhorizonpalmsprings by Steve Hermann are a few favorites.

Yello’! Another day, another door to adore. These yellow stunners can be found in the Tennis Club neighborhood in Palm Springs. If you love yellow, the area is also home to @AvalonHotels, which is a lovely spot to grab a cocktail or a nibble. Also fun: Melvyn’s at the Ingleside Inn, a former Rat Pack hangout and the perfect spot to sip a martini or indulge in an old-school dinner (Steak Diane made tableside by waiters in black tuxes, anyone?). We hope you’ve enjoyed our Palm Springs tour!

Happy Monday, friends! I was going through old photos for a few projects I’m working on and came across a bunch of unpublished photos of our house renovation. Thought I’d share them, in case you’re in a decorating mood.

A heads up for anyone new: Our house was selected as the Modernism Week Showhouse in 2017 (a.k.a. The Christopher Kennedy Compound).

Here are the before photos from when we bought the house in 2016. And here below are the after photos once the 20+ amazing designers worked their magic!

Unpublished House Photos

This is our Powder Room designed by Keith Fortner for Christopher Kennedy Design. Gah – I love it so!

I love the nod to Hollywood Regency with the lacquered vanity, floral lights, Phillip Jeffries wallpaper and that show-stopping AlysEdwards tile. Isn’t that stainless steel inlay incredible?

Also, you can catch in the reflection of the mirror a portrait of Marilyn Monroe shot by Milton Greene.

 This is the Main Bedroom designed by Trellis Home.

I’m gaga for all the white and blue, the nod to Hollywood Regency, and how glamorous yet still serene and bright this room is.

The cockatoo wallpaper and fabric is by Florence Broadhurst.

 We’ve been watching a lot of HGTV’s Rock the Block (the finale is tonight!) so we’ve been discussing which things we’re glad we spent on and saved on, what we would change, etc.

One of the things we are super happy we splurged on was the marble flooring. We contemplated doing porcelain that looked like marble and, for us, we’re really glad we didn’t, as the marble will stand the test of time. It also hides dirt surprisingly well — in a good way!

Blue and white, such a classic delight!

Let’s step into the Main Bath designed by Maya Williams.

This is the previously unpublished bar area. There’s a wine fridge below the counter you see here, which makes us feel like we’re on vacation at some fancy resort. Thank you for that Maya!

This is the Formal Living Room designed by Barclay Butera.

I love that it has a classic Hollywood vibe, mixing handsome with glamorous.

We love this space, but since it’s part of my job to create content, we are starting a mini makeover of this room, so stay tuned.

I’m glad I have these photos here to remember it staged perfectly forever. Thank you Barclay!

 This is the Dining Room that Christopher Kennedy designed.

So much color and pattern, I love it!

 Here’s the Kitchen designed by Kelli Ellis.

White, gold, pretty and bold! I love the marble sink.

And I also love the custom hood that Kelli designed.

Functionally, for anyone building or renovating a kitchen and you have the room and/or option, we have two dishwashers and it just may be my favorite thing in the world. Even as just two people living here, we use them all the time. And of course, anytime we entertain, it makes clean up much simpler.

We also have two side by side refrigerators and freezers and since we cook all of our meals, we use them all of the time too. You know you  and your family’s needs best, so definitely advocate for what’s important to you when remodeling. We got some side eye and push back (though never from Kelli or Christopher!) and I’m glad Fred Baby advocated for what was important to us.

Finally, this is the Pool Area designed by Gray Malin.

 I love how he channeled the same charmed living he captures in his photography in this idyllic outdoor space. The umbrella is from Gray Malin’s collection for Santa Barbara Designs.

 I’m excited to share a look at our laundry room makeover! It’s a colorful one, as it’s inspired by the colorful doors of Palm Springs. Here’s the scoop and how you can get the look…

I tried to find before pictures, but haven’t been able to track them down. Suffice it to say, this was a regular old laundry room before.

A roomier one than we’ve ever had before, but dull nonetheless. Why are laundry rooms always such afterthoughts? Maybe because they’re utilitarian…

Anyway, that wasn’t going to fly for the Showhouse.

When we bought the house, the laundry room had a basic storage cabinet with three doors (the kind you’d find in a garage).

Designing a room is such a process and you never know when inspiration will strike. When we were giving Able and Baker a tour of the house before the renovation, to see what we could dream up together, I had a lightbulb moment…

 What if instead of those three blah doors we turned them into three colorful doors like the ones gracing the homes of some of our favorite houses in Palm Springs, like #thatpinkdoor?

When interior designer Rachel Cannon came aboard to transform this room, she was all for it.

And she knocked it out of the park bringing the vision to life, and then some.

I love the wallpaper she chose to complement the design.

Instead of feeling like a utilitarian space, it feels like a room I want to hang out in…perhaps with a martini while I fold some laundry.
