Since leaving Microsoft and moving to Kentico, Thom has been making waves in the Kentico community, doing all of the things I’d hoped to do when I started the magazine, but doing them well, full-time, from the inside, and with full Kentico backing.

Command Line Kentico

Unless you’re in the habit of writing little command line applications, Kentico appears at first to be difficult to automate, and nearly impossible to manage from the command line. At least, that was the case until the introduction of PowerShell, a dynamic language from Microsoft which allows you to script admin tasks that previously would have required VB, VBScript, or C#. Think of Powershell as an object oriented DOS prompt on steroids.

Discussion - Kentico Version Control for Teams

Not seeing much in the way of solutions coming forth I thought I'd toss our current investigations into the mix and hopefully stimulate discussion.

I'm posting here for those not yet part of the LinkedIn Kentico CMS User Group, but have posted the same comment there.

When I started Kentico Developer way back when, there was very little in the way of good quality Kentico commen- tary available on the web.

Now it seems that every Kentico expert out there has something to say, and is out there actively saying it.

It’s great stuff. I don’t know what has inspired it, but I’m loving it.

The new Kentico initiatives are really drawing the best of the best out of the woodwork and placing them on show.

Today brings with it an exciting new development for me personally, and the last piece of the puzzle for Kentico Developer magazine. The magazine is now in print and subscriptions are finally available!

It’s funny, but looking back over the last three months, the evolution of Kentico Developer reads like a poorly managed website rollout - an inability to meet high ex- pectations due to technical limitations.

In any other situation, trees and bugs would not be a marriage made in heaven. But with the Kentico team planting a tree for every bug found in Kentico Version 4.1, it’s a win-win situation for partners, developers and the environment. And it was all hands on deck. “The participation on the event was voluntary for the employees and of course they didn’t get paid for it, still more than three quarters of the Kentico team took part in it! In addition, some of the employees’ girlfriends came along with us to support our efforts. Since we had more trees then it was needed to plant, we decided to dedicate these extra trees to these girlfriends who helped us,” says Petr Passinger, PR Manager for Kentico.

The winner of the first ever Kentico Site of the Year Award is an amazing mix of functionality, usability, beautiful design and bang for your buck, and the fact that the Chicago Zoological Society site topped out both Best Nonprofit Organization Site and Best Graphic Design says a lot for the work of Designkitchen, the group behind it.

It’s very rare that an interactive agency is able to produce work within the typically tight budgets and timeframes that come with Nonprofit Organizations, but even rarer still that the work produced is stunning enough to win design awards.

Congratulations to Designkitchen on a great site, an awesome execution, and on winning the inaugral Kentico Site of the Year.

Kentico Software Plants Trees for Bugs Found by Clients

[Press Release] Three months ago, Kentico Software promised to plant a tree for every bug in Kentico CMS 4.1 reported by their clients and to fix all such bugs within 7 business days. Although clients reported only 60 bugs in the product, company employees and management planted almost 100 of them. The tree species and the place for planting them were chosen by the Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation (NGO). Each tree was tagged with a label showing the name of the client who reported the bug.

Kentico Site - Learning Outside the Classroom

The thing I really like about this site is that it looks nothing like what I’d expect coming from any association with a government department. The design is fresh, the typography is modern, light and welcoming and the navigation is slick, really slick. You’d be hard pressed to notice the 1000+ pages of content without bringing up the sitemap, and the user generated content (moderated) sits nicely in amongst the mix, categorised efficiently.
