This was a quick photo that I took while driving the back roads around Frankfort. It was from up in the hills somewhere off highway 421, west of 127. It’s a beautiful drive if anyone is looking for a place to waste some time on a Sunday

I was driving some back roads over the weekend and happened to go by Four Roses distillery, which is part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. While I didn’t take the time to tour the place, I did stop to grab a quick shot of the waterfall located just past the main office.

I took a little hike a few weeks ago into the woods behind my parents house in Bardstown, KY and discovered a few things from my younger days that I had completely forgot about like the creek, waterfall and small ravine. There isn’t much else to say about this area because it’s located on private property and I can’t really advocate others checking the place out but I did get some nice photos that I thought would be worth while to share. Oh, I did stumble upon a snake and a duckling while I was wondering around. You’ll find them below.

I was digging through some old photos, found this and wanted to share it. It was taken early one morning from the backyard of my parents’ house in Bardstown, KY.

I went to a party recently at Nolin Lake and wasn’t expecting to be able to get any photos of the area. While I was there, though, a thunderstorm rolled in and I could resist grabbing my camera and snapping a few shots. Hopefully I can make another trip to the area sometime in the future. For anyone interested the lake is located in Mammoth Cave, KY. You can see the map below.

The hike spans a relatively relaxed 2 mile trail of mild to moderate difficulty. I always find it odd how great places like this around Kentucky always seem to be advertised in a way that tries to keep people away. Before I left, I found no address or definite street intersection; all I knew was that it was 8 miles north of Fort Knox off of HWY 31 and as I searched for it, found no road signs. After a bit of exploring, however, I discovered that you need to follow signs to “Bridges of the Past” which will take you onto the Louisville Nashville Turnpike also known as HWY 835 off of HWY 31. You can find a map with the location of the parking area located at the end of this post.

I had a great time hiking the trail and definitely need to make a trip back very soon. Parts of the trail are made up of hand stacked stones that were used to create the original road. Since my trip, I’ve found out that there are some interesting, hand built stone bridges along the trail that I never made it to.

If my memory serves me correctly, the falls were made up of 3 or 4 cascading tiers. The water flow wasn’t amazing but there hadn’t been any rain for at least a week before I made my visit so I’m guessing it’s probably a lot more visually appealing after a stormy period.
