And so when I am looking at the blogs, and I see these women telling their stories and others are all up under these comments saying, ‘That did not happen… Oh, she lying.’ It hurts my heart because I was once that girl. Somebody know the whole truth. Nobody gonna take up for me?”

She added: “I got out of the situation. It was something that I think has affected how I see myself and love men. You need to watch when you tell somebody a specific event did not happen to them. Everything is not always what it seems especially in the music industry.”

K. Michelle recently shared that she is getting rid of fake butt named Betsy to have a baby.

The singer explained: “Good Betsy! It has been too much of you stealing my shine it is time to allow my new booty to be set free. You were the apple of the eye of several NFL, NBA, players, and rappers. They loved that ass! But I am proud to say you were not thankful you were ladylike! I will miss you and how my jeans fit. Cameroon court orders release of writer who 'threatened' Paul Biya

A judge in Cameroon ordered the release on Wednesday of a prize-winning writer who was detained after he criticised the government’s handling of a separatist crisis in its Anglophone regions, his lawyer said.

Patrice Nganang, a poet, professor and author who lives in New York, was arrested on Dec. 7 as he prepared to board a Kenya Airways flight to Nairobi and accused of insulting President Paul Biya.

The government later said Nganang had threatened Biya in posts on Facebook.

His supporters said the accusations were politically motivated and related to a Dec. 5 piece he wrote for Paris-based Jeune Afrique, in which he criticised a government crackdown on Cameroon’s English-speaking west.

Since last year, the Francophone-dominated government has repressed peaceful protests by Anglophones against alleged social and economic marginalisation. Dozens of civilians have been killed while the unrest has fuelled support for separatists seeking an independent state.

Some have begun to launch armed attacks on state forces, stoking a conflict which has become the most serious challenge to Biya’s 35-year reign. Thousands of people have fled across the border into neighbouring Nigeria.

Nganang’s lawyer, Emmanuel Simh, told Reuters that a judge dismissed the government’s charges and ordered his client released, although he had yet to be freed.

Cameroon’s linguistic divide harks back to the end of World War One, when the League of Nations divided the former German colony of Kamerun between the allied French and British victors, and has been a source of periodic tension.

The past year’s violence is the latest example of how Biya’s rule has grown increasingly intolerant of dissent, with opposition activists, journalists and intellectuals routinely arrested and sometimes prosecuted.

A Cameroonian reporter for Radio France Internationale was released from prison last week after more than two years behind bars for contact with the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, in a case that drew international condemnation.

Ugandan army kills 100 ADF rebels in DR Congo

Over 100 Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) combatants were killed in eight camps that were recently struck by joint airstrikes of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Congolese Army (FARC).

In a statement issued by the UPDF spokesperson, the operation dubbed ‘TUUGO’ which started on Friday December 22, has so far been a success and will be carried on to its logical conclusion.

“These were ADF historical strongholds in Eastern DRC in general areas of Erengeti Triangle – North Kivu Province. They are Medina, Canada, Abia, Topoke 2, Kajaju, Camp Richard, Makayoba and Sangote,” reads a statement issued by Brigadier Richard Karemire, UPDF spokesperson.

Those who survived the assault are roaming in different areas of North Kivu but FARDC forces are pursuing them. The UPDF is maintaining active defensive operations along the borderline in the districts of Kasese, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko to deter any of the terrorists from sneaking into our territory. Karemire confirmed that the strikes by the UPDF were pre-emptive following the deadly ADF attack that killed 15 UN Peacekeepers and 5 Congolese soldiers in Beni, North Kivu on December 7.

“The ADF recent attack on the UN Peacekeepers of MONUSCO from the sister country of Tanzania is an indictment to its activities not only for Uganda and DRC but also the International community.”

Having received intelligence that the ADF planned to attack parts of Uganda, the UPDFswung into action, deploying in the border districts and striking the ADF bases.

“Those who survived the assault are roaming in different areas of North Kivu but FARDCforces are pursuing them. The UPDF is maintaining active defensive operations along the borderline in the districts of Kasese, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko to deter any of the terrorists from sneaking into our territory. The UPDF spokesperson also rubbished claims on social media that the Ugandan army had entered into the territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“Contrary to falsehoods by some irresponsible, unpatriotic and opportunistic individuals being peddled on social media, we reiterate that the UPDF has neither deployed any infantry troops inside DRC nor suffered any casualties. These limited operations remain to be conducted within the boundaries of the law and with full knowledge and blessing of the DRC Government,” he said.

Uganda has in the past been charged and penalised for breaching the sovereign territory of DRC and plundering its resources.

Uganda had sent its troops into DRC in pursuit of rebels. The International Court of Justice, the UN’s highest court, ruled that Uganda was guilty of “occupying Ituri (a region in the DRC), violations of sovereignty, illegal use of force, violations of international human rights laws and looting and plunder” between August 1998 and June 2003.

In the 1990s, the ADF rebels terrorized the Rwenzori region in the districts of Kasese, Bundibugyo and Kabarole for over a decade. During the insurgency, the rebels are believed to have killed more than 3,000 people and displaced 100,000.

Tonnes of congratulatory messages on Facebook and Twitter continue to claim he has been “declared” winner of the runoff vote. The National Elections Commission, NEC, has yet to release any official results.

Amidst the ordinary words of congratulation are those that can be described as official as is the case with the Namibian president Hage Geingob and a governor in Nigeria – Ayodele Peter Fayose.

The Ekiti State governor tweeted first and urged Nigeria’s elections body, INEC, to learn from the Liberian process.

“I congratulate the President-Elect of Liberia, George Weah. I salute his courage and resilience. He is such an inspiration to the youths of Africa. I urge INEC to learn from what happened in Liberia and allow the will of the people to prevail in 2018 and 2019 elections,” his tweet read.

Hours later, the Namibian president’s official Twitter account sent a similar tweet. “Congrats to @GeorgeWeahOff on your election as President of Liberia. Namibia and Liberia enjoy good relations, which we hope to strengthen.”

It is not the first time “unofficial” results have led to congratulations for Weah. A Nigerian senator Shehu Sani also tweeted a Weah victory after the first round of vote in October.

How African Print Swimwear Brands Lost Their Serge/Thunder To Chinese Duplicates

There are various ways this article could have been written, harsh or with a very understanding approah, but due to direct experience had with a few of the African print swimwear brands and their arrogance experienced (which is fairly common with a good number of designers in our industry that have touched a bit of success) I decided to go as it is.

Some where along the lines of 2015, we took it upon ourselves to promote as much print swimwear images we could find from runway shows in Africa. This was inline with our season magazine at the time ‘Body Beautiful’. The print swimwear resonated with our 1 million followers on facebook and from there on print swimwear began to go viral by images. I mean, African fashion was viral and beautiful black women will always go viral to.

Later in 2016, it seems a lot more African print brands had emerged and however there was very little nationwide support, or in some cases even though some had their markets, there was a wide range of the public that didn’t know their brand names. So we created the article ‘See The Sexiest #AfricanFashion Swimwear Going VIRAL! Where To Buy Them And The 11 Labels Behind Them’. This also further inspired more top swimwear articles and the African swimwear brands started getting highly recognized.

Later in the year, when it seems like things were booming for their brands, we tried to engage with them to see how possible it was to retail their designs on our online boutique based on the demand we were receiving from our FashionGHANA audience. Unfortunately the response was very negative and in some cases arrogant.

It seemed like things were going so well most would not even reply to any such messages. After all, why should a third party make money of their creativity. You know the saying “You weren’t with me from the start so don’t need to be with me now”. Most only wanted to retail their clothes on their own online platform and extract all possible proceeds from it as much as possible. “Sorry Mr Online Boutique, but if someone wants this beautiful creation I made, you will not benefit, tell them to come to me, and if you don’t who cares, I’ve got my clients” A common and rampant mentality and attitude that sores across a large part of our African fashion world.

Their brand names were growing and their designs were getting far as far as social media (facebook and instagram) was concerned. However, something happened in 2017….and it was the Chinese! Yes the all mighty China, they dip their hands in everything, and little do we know African prints swimwear was one of them. What was even shocking about their move is they literally copied the styles of some of these brands and duplicated them in mass amounts.

The question is how did the Chinese manage to outsell the original brands? Simple, they approached almost every online boutique they could find even the ones that literally had poorly designed websites. We know because we were also receiving mails from random Chinese manufacturers to retails their African print swimwear. ‘Funny Right?’ So if you were ever anywhere, or a client of any online boutique, or a receiver of their forward mail, or just googling for these swimwear looks, guess which source you will engage with first? CHINA! or at least an outlet selling theirs.

The arrogance played and the methods rejected by a lot of the African swimwear brand owners which could have been inspired by greed, was the same tactic used by the Chinese to overtake their business with THEIR designs. Most people don’t know the African swimwear bikinis they are wearing are made in China, what is even worst, they don’t even know they are designs own by other African designers duplicated without permission by companies in China.

With the exception of demands African swimwear brands create for themselves on their social media pages, the battle is a lost cause. The dire to be the sole beneficiary to reap all proceeds of their work worked against them, yes they are making some money here and there, but nothing like the Chinese are milking of their designs. The two essential lessons to be learnt is 1/ Patent your designs, yes take the time to do it, you wouldn’t loose a lifetime of business with a 30 day delay. 2/ Stop being arrogant! Learn to work with others even if it reduces your profit per item. The more items sold via alternative channels will increase your profit over all. It doesn’t mean if 50 items are sold a day over 5 outlets, then if you cut those outlets out all 50 consumers will purchase off you, you have no idea their means to reach out to their own clients.

I will promise you today, none of the known African swimwear brands have approached alternative online boutiques, none of these swimwear brands have approached real boutiques, and even if they have, they haven’t acknowledged these outlets on their website or social media, and I bet you, majority of them have rejected online boutique collaborations, but the Chinese won’t.

Purge – Swearing in: 10 words associated with Mugabe ouster in Zimbabwe

Today December 21, 2017 marks exactly a month since Robert Gabriel Mugabe resigned as president of Zimbabwe. A country that he had been in charge of for 37 years.

Mugabe rose to power after playing a key role in the country’s independence struggle. After independence from the British in 1980, he was elected Prime Minister, a post he held for seven years.

He was elevated to president in 1987 and has held the position till the events of November this year which held to his ouster. Mugabe, 93, is said to have resigned under pressure after the army took over the reigns of power and placed him under house arrest.

As part of our 2017 Review, we look back at 10 key words that defined the ‘last political’ moments of the world’s longest serving democratically elected president.

PURGE

Mugabe fired his the first vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa for disloyalty, it was believed that the move was to pave the way for his wife Grace Mugabe to be nominated to fill the post. Mnangagwa fearing an attempt on his life fled to South Africa.

He had manages to leave but his supporters back home were being attacked politically. The army called on Mugabe at a press conference to halt the purge of Mnangagwa allies – persons they said had partaken in the liberation struggle.

“The current purging of which is clearly targeting members of the party with a liberation background must stop forthwith. The known counter-revolutionary elements who have fermented the current instability must be fished out,” General Chiwenga said in the presence of over 90 army chiefs.

STEP IN

At a press conference, General Constantino Chiwenga, said if the purge continued, there were ready to step in.

“Unfortunately since the turn of 2015, Zanu PF’s protocol and procedures have changed with a lot of gossiping, backbiting and public chastisement being the order of the day … We must remind those behind treacherous shenanigans that when it comes to matters of protecting our revolutions, the military will not hesitate to step in,” Chiwenga said at the time.

His views received a heavy response from the ruling ZANU-PF’s youth league who said there were ready to die to defend the constitution and that the army would be wrong to step into politics.

TAKEOVER / COUP

The army finally announced a takeover after seizing the state broadcaster and other key public buildings. The flatly refuted that the move was a coup against Mugabe. The president and his family were fine.

“We wish to assure the nation that His Excellency Mugabe and his family are safe and sound and their security is guaranteed. We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes that are bringing social and economic suffering in the country in order to bring them to justice,” Sibisuso Moyo, the major general who announced the takeover said.

RECALL

In the midst of the talks and diplomatic overtures, the ruling party for the first time convened a meeting of the highest decision making body to recall Mugabe as its leader and first secretary. It also voted to expel Grace Mugabe as a member of the party.

Incidentally, the man that Mugabe had fired weeks back, Emmerson Mnangagwa, was elected the new leader of the party.

PROTESTS

Citizens from across the southern African country then united in protests calling for the 93-year-old leader to step down after 37 years. Members of ZANU-PF and the opposition flooded the streets with placards demanding that Mugabe steps down.

The army still in talks with Mugabe stated expressly that they were in support of the protests. They had since the takeover taken over the routine traffic duties of the police and had tanks stationed in the capital Harare. They were hailed by protesters as heroes of the nation.

IMPEACHMENT

Zimbabwe’s parliament then moved in to use legislative processes to remove Mugabe, days after he addressed the nation but did not step down as was widely expected.

The lawmakers in a joint sitting agreed to start impeachment processes against Mugabe. The move was initiated by the ZANU-PF who hold a parliamentary majority and it was bound to succeed with an opposition that were for the motion.

STEP DOWN / RESIGNATION

On the day that the parliament was due to vote on the impeachment, a leader signed by Mugabe and delivered to the speaker of parliament said Mugabe had accepted to step down as president of Zimbabwe.

I, Robert Mugabe, in terms of section 96, subsection 1 of the constitution of Zimbabwe, hereby formally tender my resignation as president of the Republic of Zimbabwe with immediate effect, the letter read in part.

SWEARING IN

Weeks after he was fired by Mugabe, Mnangagwa was back in town. The man who once feared for his life was assured of enough safety and political goodwill to return home. He returned to a rousing welcome.

The country witnessed Mnangagwa’s swearing in ceremony in Harare as he took over the political reigns of Zimbabwe. Only the second president since 1980. He will see out Mugabe’s term till elections slated for next year. Unlike Mugabe, he can only have two terms in office via the ballot box.

UN Refugees chief calls for more support for Somali government

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi is asking the international community to support efforts being made by the Somali government to restore and rebuild the country which has been damaged by 28 years of conflict.

Grandi made the call after touring a new settlement in the southern port city of Kismayo, for former Somali refugees who have returned home.

The UN High Commissioner who highlighted the extent of physical damage caused the over two decade conflict, expressed content with the visible signs of restoration and economic activity in the streets including small businesses run by returning refugees.

There are currently over 2 million displaced Somalis both inside the country and in exile.

Filippo Grandi who earlier in the week visited the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya – home to thousands of Somali refugees – noted that Somalia still faced several challenges including insecurity and drought, in spite of the progress made over the years.

“I think a lot of progress has occurred, including what we see around here today, but much more is needed to make return sustainable and more importantly to make the country viable for its own people,” Grandi said.

The new settlement in Kismayo consists of housing for 300 families, a new hospital, a market and school.

“These boys and girls around me are the people that have grown up in a refugee camp,” Grandi said “and as I told them a few minutes ago, they are not refugees anymore.

“What better result for UNHCR to see young people go from being refugees to being people back in their country, contributing to their country.”

Most of the returning refugees have spent decades in exile waiting for signs of stability and the promise of education and jobs before giving up the safety of the refugee camps to return to their home country.

Whereas some 19,000 Somali refugees still living in Kenya’s Dadaab refugee camp are said to be preparing for voluntary repatriation, most of them cite security concerns as reasons for staying in the refugee camp.

The militant Islamist group al-Shabab, still controls large parts of south-central Somalia as they continue their insurgency against the government.

Captain Jamila Malafa of the Nigerian Navy is being celebrated in Nigeria for becoming the first woman from the country’s north to rise to the rank of a Commodore.

The post of a Commodore is equivalent to that of a Brigadier General in the army. A commodore is a commissioned naval officer who ranks above a captain and below a rear admiral; the lowest grade of admiral.

The 55-year-old who hails form the northeastern Adamawa State was decorated at an event in the capital Abuja on Monday. The event was graced by vice president Yemi Osinbajo.

She joined the navy in 1988 and was promoted to the rank of midshipman two years later. She has since risen through the ranks till her current position.

A top officer of the navy also stressed the importance of Jamila’s feat adding that there was every reason to be proud because very few women rise to that height in the course of their service.

Ghana gets first female Brigadier – General

Almost four decades after entering the army, Constance Ama Emefa Edjeani-Afenu, made history early this year rising to become the first female Brigadier-General of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Her appointment to the post was ratified in March 2017 when the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Major – General Obed Boamah Akwa, conferred the rank on her during a ceremony in Accra.

The CDS whiles congratulating her labeled her exploits as a beacon for females in the GAF. He stressed the hope that her rise will open doors for other women to come through.
