Listen to the debut episode of The Big Screen, a new movie podcast from DMN movie critic Chris Vognar and Art&Seek's Stephen Becker.

What movie should you see this weekend? Who’s making moves in the North Texas film scene and on the national stage? And what should you get if you just feel like kicking back and watching a DVD?

All of those questions and more will be the topic of The Big Screen, a new podcast co-produced by Art&Seek and DallasNews.com. But wait, there’s more: Each Friday, you’ll be able to hear a condensed version of the podcast at 11:04 a.m. and 8:04 p.m. on KERA 90.1 – just ahead of Fresh Air.

The show will be hosted by yours truly and Chris Vognar, movie critic for The Dallas Morning News. Each Friday, we’ll pick one movie to have an in-depth conversation about. And we’ll also have a special guest. Up this week, we discuss The Descendants, Alexander Payne’s first movie since 2004’s Sideways (Payne, above, on the set of The Descendants). And we talk to John Lithgow, the special guest at the Dallas Film Society’s Art of Film gala.

In the coming weeks, we’ll speak to Michelle Williams and Simon Curtis of My Week With Marilyn, Steve McQueen and Michael Fassbender of Shame and (ahem) a guy you may have heard of named Steven Spielberg. Plus, we’ve got a lot of great local guests lined up to talk about projects happening in North Texas.

You can listen to today’s podcast below, or you can subscribe to the podcast here.

Very soon, you will be able to subscribe to it on iTunes.

Thank in advance for giving it a chance, and if you have any questions or comments, please let us know.

And be sure to check back for a special edition of The Big Screen on Wednesday, when we’ll talk about The Muppets.
