New 427 Convertible Video and 427 Convertible Updates

As we get closer to the release of the new 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition the anticipation is rising! Kerbeck Corvette already has a couple dozen on order and scheduled to be built between now and the end of June. In fact, some are already built and waiting to ship! All we need now is for GM to announced a release date for the 2013 Corvettes.

No official release date has been announced yet but the rumors we are hearing tell us that the cars won't be released until June 1, 2013. However, Chevrolet keeps releases promotional videos to hold us over just a little longer. Here's the latest:

We did finally get pricing on 2013 Corvettes. There were no price increases for the 6 body styles coming over from last year and the pricing on the 427 Convertible is where we expected. The base starts at $76,900 and the 60th Anniversary version of the 505 HP drop top starts at $90,470. These are the list prices but the cars can be had for much less with Kerbeck's discount pricing. No incentives have yet been announced on any of the 2013 Corvettes but we wouldn't expect to see any until the cars have been released.

Corvette ZR1 to Pace 2012 Indianapolis 500 Field

INDIANAPOLIS – A 2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will lead the starting field of the 96th Indianapolis 500 to the green flag Sunday, May 27 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With 638 horsepower, the Corvette ZR1 is the most powerful production car ever to pace the race.

This will be the 23rd time a Chevrolet has paced “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” and the 11th time a Corvette is serving as the Pace Car. Both are event records. The 2013 model year will mark the 60th anniversary and the final year of production for the current generation Corvette.

“Corvette embodies pure performance, so the ZR1 is a perfect car to pace the most prestigious auto race in the world,” said Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation president and chief executive officer. “Chevrolet is a great partner of the Speedway, and we share in the excitement of the upcoming 60th anniversary of the iconic Corvette brand. It’s even more meaningful to see a Chevrolet pacing the field at Indy since Chevy has returned as an engine supplier for the IZOD IndyCar Series for the first time since 2005.”

“This is a truly momentous year for Chevrolet when it comes to performance, with our continued success on and off track, and especially with our return to the IndyCar Series, powering some of the fastest cars on the circuit,” said Jim Campbell, GM vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “I can’t think of a better way to mark the 60^th Anniversary of Corvette than having it lead the starting field of the Indianapolis 500.”

A supercharged, 6.2-liter LS9 engine generating 638 horsepower helps to create the ZR1’s performance. Of all mass-production companies, Chevrolet is the leader in using carbon fiber. The lightweight material is used for structural components, including the front fenders, hood, roof, front splitter, rocker panels and floor pans. With a curb weight of 3,353 pounds, the ZR1 features a power-to-weight ratio of just 5.2 pounds per horsepower. The ZR1 also features advanced technology such as Magnetic Selective Ride Control, Launch Control system with Performance Track Management, a four-channel ABS system and Brembo carbon-ceramic disc brake rotors.

As a result, the ZR1 is the fastest Chevrolet ever produced, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and capable of reaching a top speed of 205 mph. The ZR1 lapped the famed Nurburgring’ Nordschleife (“north loop”) in 7:19.63.

The first Chevrolet selected as the Indianapolis 500 pace car was the 1948 Fleetmaster Six. The brand would go on to lead the racing pack more than any other manufacturer. In addition to the Fleetmaster Six, the list of Chevy pace cars includes:

Corvette 60th Anniversary Package

The Corvette Pace Car features an exterior paint scheme and full body length stripe similar to that of the 60th Anniversary Package being made available on all 2013 Corvette models. The 60th Anniversary Package features an Arctic White exterior with a Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with suede accents. Convertible models will have a blue top.

Additional content includes a ZR1-style rear spoiler, special badging, gray-painted brake calipers and the “60th” logo on the wheel center caps, steering wheel and seat headrests. An optional graphics package adds full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue, including a tonal stripe stitched into the convertible top, extending the graphic theme over the roof.

For 2013, all Corvettes will feature 60th Anniversary badges on the fascias and the “waterfall” panel on convertible models, as well as 60th logos in the instrument panel gauge cluster and on the sill plates.
The 96th Indianapolis 500 is scheduled to start at noon (ET) Sunday, May 27. The driver of the Pace Car will be announced soon.

Chevy Announces Corvette Incentives effective May 1, 2012

We just got done reviewing the new incentives that GM has announced and it appears that Corvette is going to ride the wave of a very successful month in sales by keeping all of the current incentives.

The special APR of 0% up to 60 months and 2.9% for 72 months has been extended along with the $1,500 dealer cash.

Also extended is the $2,000 Lease Conquest Rebate for those who currently lease a non-GM vehicle as well as the $3,000 Target In Market Retention Rebate to those on the Manifest List. Just because you weren't on the manifest list last month does not mean that you aren't on there now. The new manifest list should be out later today.

Even though the production of 2013 started this week, no incentives have been announced on the 2013 Corvette but we'll let you know if something comes out later this month.

All of the current rebates are in effect from today, May 1, 2012 through July 2, 2012.

First Look at 2013 Corvette Night Race Blue and 60th Anniversary ZR1!

There has been much talk on the wen about the final year of Sixth Generation Corvette and the 2 special editions Chevrolet will be offering. Also being talked about was the new color Night Race Blue (GXH) that will be available for the 2013 Corvette Model Year.

After already having four different blues during the generation (LeMans Blue 2005-07, Jetstream Blue 2008-11, Supersonic Blue 2011-13 and Carlisle Blue 2012) many people wanted to know what this color would look like. The trend in Corvettes Blues have gotten away from the dark blue since the end of LeMans Blue and the name Night Race Blue led many to think and hope that this would be a dark color. Pictures started hitting the web of what the new blue would look like, but those of us who saw the actual paint chip confirmed that Night Race Blue was even darker than it was being represented to be.

So now we're happy to be able to show you an actual picture of the first 2013 Night Race Blue to come off the assembly line. This is a 2013 427 Convertible in Night Race Blue with a Blue Top, very similar to one that we already have on order that is scheduled to be produced during the week of May 21st.

This car is one of the early 2013 Corvettes produced for use by the Corvette Team in Detroit and will be on display and the Corvette Birthday Bash at the National Corvette Museum from April 25th to April 28th.

Also pictured here is a 60th Anniversary ZR1 with a really good look at the new stripe package as well as another 427 Convertible with the 60th Anniversary Package. Keep in mind that these are not official GM pictures and these cars are missing things like center wheel caps and splitters. Both the ZR1 and the Anniversary 427 do not yet have the carbon fiber "skirts" attached but they will be done before the Bash as part of the PDI (pre-delivery inspection) process as well as the center caps and splitters.

These pictures will also help point out the difference between a 60th Anniversary Corvette and a Corvette 427 Convertible. When Chevrolet first announced the two special editions, they put out a picture of a Corvette 427 Convertible with a 60th Anniversary Package which has led to much confusion. Many people think that the car pictured is the only way to get a 427 Convertible or the only way to get a 60th Anniversary Package.

As you can see in this pictures, the 427 Convertible will be available in all ten colors and in three different equipment groups. The 60th Anniversary Package will be available in all 7 Corvette body styles. And, of course, the two can be combined to into one car that was originally shown off to the public at this year's Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, AZ. Hopefully seeing a 427 Convertible in another color and seeing a 60th Anniversary Package on a non-427 Convertible will help end all of the confusion.

Video - 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Blows Out 60 Candles in Honor of Corvette's 60th Anniversary!

Blowing candles out on a birthday cake seems like an age-old tradition, but who would have thought a car could do it? When one of America’s most famous sports car turned 60, Corvette decided to give it its candles to blow out.

The American automaker took a Corvette 427 Convertible out to the track that acted as a giant birthday cake and lit 60 candles along the pavement. A driver piloted the 7.0-liter Corvette – the same engine found in the Z06 – with 505 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque as it made its way around the course, blowing out its candles along the way.

Weighting in at 3,355 lbs, the Corvette 427 Convertible hits 60-mph in just 3.8 seconds and has a top speed over 190-mph.

0% APR on all New 2012 Corvettes and Other New Corvette Incentives!

OK, so I'm going through the new incentives to see what is being offered for Corvette and while they are a bit confusing I think I have the general idea. If I make any errors in this post I will edit as soon as I figure out the "Incentive Matrix" they sent me which is probably just a little harder than figuring the Matrix movie!

There is now 0% APR up to 60 months (with approved credit) on all new, 2012 Corvettes and 2.9% for 72 months!

The $1,500 Dealer Cash is still in affect and CAN be combined with the 0%.

The $3,000 Target In Market Retention Certificate rebate is back but you MUST be on the list. Simply owning a Corvette or a GM product is not enough and if you're not already on the list you can't be added. From what I'm reading on the Matrix, the $3,000 is compatible with the Dealer Cash AND the 0% but I'd still like to verify that to be sure. I won't be in the office today, but tomorrow I'll be there and will be happy to check to see if you are on the manifest list if you call or email me then.

The $2,000 Lease Conquest Rebate (for customer currently leasing a 1999 or newer non-GM vehicle) is also back. While it can NOT be combined with the Target In Market Retention rebate it appears it can be used in conjunction with the Dealer cash and the special APRs.

Also, check your email Inbox for a $1,000 Rebate certificate that you may have received, but, like the above, it can't be combined with the TIMR or the Lease Conquest but CAN be used with Dealer Cash and special APRs.

Are you still looking for a deal on a 2011 Leftover? Well, that got a little better too!

The 0% APR has now been extended to 72 months! They've also upped the ante on the rebate by changing it to $4,000 instead of $3,000 but it still can not be combined with the 0%

All of the current incentives run through April 30, 2012 which means that not only do all of the new Corvettes in my current inventory qualify for these programs, the majority of the over 100 Corvettes on my inbound list should be here in time to take advantage as well.

Please remember, this matrix is confusing and I need to go over it a few more time. I'll come back and fix any errors I find.

A Third of U.S. Sports Cars sales are Chevrolet Corvettes and Camaro!

Chevrolet has only three words to tell the rest of the sports cars for sale here in the United States. Bring it on!

“We challenge any company to bring two cars to compete with the Corvette ZR1 and Camaro ZL1, dollar for dollar,” General Motors North America president Mark Reuss said. “They will discover what enthusiasts already know – that Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette are the world’s best performance cars for the money.”

Bragging rights for Sports Cars sales clearly goes to Chevrolet with Corvette and Camaro accounting for over one third of all sports cars sales in the U.S. this year.

The Camaro outsold its closest competition, the Ford Mustang, by almost 18,000 cars last year with a total 88,249 units.

According to the company, that figure is expected to grow as the ZL1 Camaro, the fastest production Camaro ever built, goes on sale this month. The Camaro ZL1 sports a 6.2-liter supercharged LSA V8 that makes a road-ripping 580 hp.

Chevrolet has recently tested both the Corvette ZR1 and the Camaro ZL1 at the Grand Course at the Virginia International Raceway and they were both crazy fast! The Camaro ZL1 recorded a 2:52.4 lap time (more than 6 seconds faster that the Ford Shelby GT500) while the Corvette ZR1, the fastest production Chevrolet ever made, made the lap in 2:45.6!

With that type of speed and fun to drive aspect combined with the outstanding power to price ratio there's no surprise that Chevy is taking such a huge porting of the Sport Car pie and there's not much going on in the market right now to change it.

2012 Corvette Z06 on Consumer Reports Best List

Consumer Reports magazine Monday released its best and worst list for 2012 road tests, with one Chevrolet — the Corvette Z06 — making its top-scoring list, and two Jeeps on its worst list.

Consumer Reports uses more than 50 individualized tests and evaluations to create a road test score. The scores reflect how well a vehicle performs in areas such as braking, acceleration, fuel economy, comfort and cargo space, according to the magazine.

The magazine said the Corvette Z06 scored a 92 which was the highest ranking domestic car and the only one to make the Top 10 list.

Back in November, the Corvette was named to Consumer Digest's 2012 Best Buys. That was the seventh year in a row that Corvette was named to that list.

Chevrolet has uploaded three new videos to their official Corvette website which promotes the upcoming 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition. The videos feature Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner, who is seen both in front of the camera as well as behind the wheel as he aggressively drives the new special edition Corvette with the 60th Anniversary package on the track at Virginia International Raceway.

The first video shows Tommy behind the wheel in the Corvette as he narrates the special features that can be found on the new 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition:

The second video is called “Windcheater” and it opens with Tommy holding a pair of Spike Strips. The strips are laid out on one of the corners and Tommy says “If the driver even looses a little bit of control, those tires are toast. The 427 Convertible takes its aerodynamic cues from the ZR1 to counteract lift up which means the tires are firmly planted on the ground.”

In the final video, called “Carbonated”, Tommy illustrates the weight saving benefits of carbon fiber on the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible. And less weight combined with the 505 horsepower LS7 gives the new Corvette convertible a better power to weight ratio than even the Porsche 911 Cabriolet.

2012 Corvette Deadlines are Coming and Going Fast!

In a post a few weeks ago, I talked about the fast approaching deadlines for the 2012 Corvette model year and introductory information for the 2013 Corvette model year.

Well, deadline are not always accurate so don't wait too long. Here's what I mean. The color Carlisle Blue was scheduled to have it's last order date on Thursday 02/09/12 however, when orders opened up that day, there were ZERO Carlisle Blue cars available nationwide. If you didn't get your order in a week early, you were out of luck!

Now, we are approaching the next deadline is for the Centennial Edition Corvette. The deadline for placing the final Centennial Edition Corvette is supposed to be Thursday 03/01/12. However, based on what happened to the Carlisle Blue, I wouldn't wait till the last minute. If you are thinking about ordering a Centennial Edition Corvette I would get your order in to the dealer by Thursday 02/16/12 or Thursday 02/23/12.

The final deadline that's coming fast is the final orders for the 2012 Corvettes which is Thursday 03/15/12. And, based on what's happened in years past as well as what has already happen this year, I would expect slim pickings on the cars ordered on Thursday 03/08/12 and Thursday 03/15/12. If you want place a special order for your 2012 Corvette I would try to get the order in by 03/01/12.

An Early Look at Corvette 60th Anniversary Convertible Top with Stripes

After the announcement of the the 60th Anniversary Edition by Chevrolet a few weeks ago, there was a lot of talk about the Blue Convertible Top. In the press release it said, "An optional graphics package adds full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue, including a tonal stripe stitched into the convertible top, extending the graphic theme over the roof."

There were many questions about the strip going through the top and how it would look..While on display at the Barrett Jackson Auction in January, no pictures were taken with the top up.

This Friday (02/10/12) the 60th Anniversary Corvette 427 Convertible will be on display at the Chicago Auto Show and, for the first time, the public will be able to see the top with the stripe in it.

Kerbeck Corvette was able to get a few early pictures from the show and we wanted to share them with you! From what we've been told, the stripe is part of the one-piece top and there is no separate material stitched onto the top.

There was a press day at the Auto Show today and the initial reaction from the small sampling was very positive.

Since we know that General Motors has people who watch sites like these, please feel free to comment so that GM knows what you think about this new top.

Production on the 2013 Corvette model year is set to begin in May and cars are expected to hit the showrooms starting in June. We are looking forward to saying goodbye to the sixth generation Corvette with two awesome special edition Corvettes.

A Better Explanation of the 2 Special Edition Corvettes for 2013

A few weeks ago Chevrolet announced 2 special editions for the 2013 Corvette model year; the 60th Anniversary Package and the Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition.

While there has been a lot of positive press and consumer reaction there has also been a lot of confusion. Since the press release announcing these two cars was accompanied by pictures of only one car, many people think there is only one special edition instead of two. So, let's brake down the two versions.
The Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition

First is the 427 Convertible Collector Edition. The Corvette 427 Convertible blends elements of the Z06 and ZR1 models to create the fastest and most-capable convertible in Corvette’s history. It will be available with a 2LT, 3LT or 4LT Preferred Option Group and will be available in all 10 Colors offered by Corvette for the 2013 model year.

Its heart is the 427-cubic-inch (7.0L) LS7 engine from the Corvette Z06. Rated at 505 horsepower (377 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm), it is the most powerful engine ever installed in a production Corvette convertible – and, like the Z06, the 427 Convertible is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.

The LS7 was co-developed with the Corvette Le Mans-winning GT1 engine and features lightweight titanium connecting rods and intake valves, as well as racing-inspired high-flow cylinder heads and a dry-sump oiling system. It is assembled by hand at GM’s Performance Build Center.

Supporting performance elements in the Corvette 427 Convertible include the driveline and rear axle system from the Corvette Z06, a rear-mounted battery and standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control. The standard 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are wrapped in ZR1-style Michelin PS2 tires. Lightweight machine-face Cup wheels introduced on the 2012 Corvette Z06 with Z07 and Corvette ZR1 with PDE performance packages come standard and include unique gray-painted pockets. Black Cup wheels or chrome ZR1-style wheels are also available.

And like the Z06 and ZR1 the 427 Convertible also features several carbon-fiber components that help reduce weight.

The Corvette 60th Anniversary Package

The second edition being offered is the Corvette 60th Anniversary Edition which will be available in the Coupe, Convertible, Grand Sport Coupe, Grand Sport Convertible, Z06, ZR1 and the 427 Convertible. It will only be available in Arctic White exterior with a Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with suede accents. Convertible models will have a blue top. . Since the blue leather interior is only made in the "wrapped" interior, the car will only be available in the 4LT Preferred Option Group in the coupes and convertibles, the 3LZ Group in the Z06 and 3ZR in the ZR1.

Additional content includes a ZR1-style rear spoiler, special badging, gray-painted brake calipers and the “60th” logo on the wheel center caps, steering wheel and seat headrests. An optional graphics package adds full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue, including a tonal stripe stitched into the convertible top, extending the graphic theme over the roof.

For 2013, all Corvettes will feature 60th Anniversarybadges on the fascias and the “waterfall” panel on convertible models, as well as 60th logos in the instrument panel gauge cluster and on the sill plates.

Super Bowl XLVI MVP Eli Manning Wins 2012 Centennial Edition Corvette Grand Sport Convertible

For his efforts in yesterday’s Super Bowl XLVI, New York Giants star Eli Manning was not only awarded with the Most Valuable Player title but a brand new 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible Centennial Edition as well.

Thanks to his efforts as well as those of his team-mates, the New York Giants were able to trump the New England Patriots 21-17 in the epic match at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In addition to the sweet car and MVP title, Manning also took home the Pete Rozelle Trophy, a silver trophy made by Tiffany & Co.

The 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible comes with a 6.2-liter V-8 rated at 436 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque. It’s capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in less than 4.0 seconds, and reaching more than 1.0 g of cornering force, making it one of the most potent convertibles on the market.

Corvette DP Finishes 5th at 50th Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona

The Corvette Daytona Prototypes made their inaugural debut at the 50th Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. After a brutal 24 hours of round-the-clock racing, the No. 5 Action Express Corvette DP led the way for Team Chevy and the Corvette DPs with a 5th place overall finish. Corvette Racing’s factory drivers in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing Corvette DP finished 8th while in GT, Tommy Milner and Jordan Taylor in the No. 88 Autohaus Camaro GT.R finished 10th in class.

The No. 5 Action Express Corvette DP had to overcome several major obstacles to earn that 5th place finish – including not being able to make a qualifying run and having to pit just after one lap of the race.

“That was probably one of the toughest 24 Hours I have done,” Darren Law said following a fifth-place finish in the famed endurance race at Daytona International Speedway. “We had a lot of adversity. We had some engine issues prior to the race, (and) we had to miss qualifying. The first, probably, eight hours of the race, we had an electrical misfire, which really cut the motor back, and we struggled.”

“But the guys worked really hard – Action Express, Chevrolet, Corvette – they all did a great job. I’m proud of the car. I’m proud of the team. … A top-five is a good start to the season, and we are happy to finish it.”

The No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP – driven by Antonio Garcia, Richard Westbrook, Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen – ended up in eighth place.

The No. 9 Action Express Racing Corvette DP – driven by Terry Borcheller, JC France, Joao Barbosa and Max Papis – went to the garage at about the 14-hour mark to address a number of issues, and finished ninth.

The GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Corvette DP, also driven by Jon Fogarty and Memo Gidley, did lead 19 laps but experienced a number of issues and finished 13th in the Daytona Prototype (DP) class.

The No. 10 SunTrust Corvette DP started on the outside of the front row, courtesy of Max Angelelli’s qualifying effort, but experienced suspected valve train failure after just 14 laps.

In the Grand Touring (GT) class, the No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro GT.R earned Team Chevy a 4th place class finish. Jordan Taylor picked up two spots in the closing laps to secure a ninth-in-class finish for the No. 88 Autohaus Motorsports Camaro GT.R, which was also driven by Paul Edwards, Matthew Marsh and Tom Milner. The No. 75 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro GT.R – driven by Al Carter, Hugh Plumb, Matt Bell, and Eric Curran – finished 30th in class.

The only Corvette in GT, the No. 46 Michael Baughman Racing Corvette driven by Michael Baughman, Mike Yeakle and Ray Mason finished 40th in class.

The Corvette DPs and Camaro GT.Rs will be back in action at Barber Motorsports Park on March 30-31 for GRAND-AM road racing’s second event of the season.

This is the next step in Chevy's attempt to interact with the public with new technology. Leading up to Chevrolet's Centennial celebration Chevy had a vote on the greatest Chevy of all time but you needed to have a Facebook account to login and participate in the event. That was later followed up with another Facebook app called Chevy's Ride of Your Life which after answering a few questions, took you on a "ride" of pictures not only from your own Facebook page but from places you spent time at in your life.
This is another opportunity for Corvette to target the younger market that it so desperately needs to attract as we get ready to move to the next generation Corvette.

ALMS: Revised Driver Pairings For Corvette

Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia will be full-season drivers in the No. 3 Corvette C6.R, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner will co-drive the No. 4 car.

A new alignment of drivers will pilot Corvette Racing's new Compuware Corvette C6.R race cars when they make their competition debut at the season-opening 60th Anniversary Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. With additional testing following the announcement of the 2012 driver roster, the team has now finalized the lineups for the twin Corvettes.

Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia will be full-season drivers in the No. 3 Corvette C6.R, joined by Jordan Taylor as third driver in endurance events (Sebring, Le Mans, and Petit Le Mans). Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner will co-drive the No. 4 Corvette C6.R, with Richard Westbrook joining them as third driver in the three long-distance races.

"As part of our comprehensive review of Corvette Racing, we considered every element of the program, from the chassis and engine to the driver pairings," said GM Racing Director Mark Kent.

"Preseason testing and data analysis suggested that a revised driver alignment could improve the team's overall performance. Certainly physical size is a factor in minimizing the time required for driver changes during pit stops, but we also evaluated the drivers' individual styles and their preferences on chassis setups. With these pairings, we can minimize compromises and maximize driver confidence.

"This new alignment also combines experienced and younger drivers," Kent added. "We expect the veteran drivers to mentor the younger drivers, accelerating the process of learning and development."

This new driver alignment sees Magnussen, 38, return to the No. 3 Corvette C6.R that he drove from March 2007 to August 2010. The Dane will co-drive with Garcia, 31, who moves from the third-driver role he began in 2009 to a full-season campaign in the American Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The team's newest member, Jordan Taylor, a 20-year-old from Apopka, Fla., joins Magnussen and Garcia as the third driver in the No. 3 Corvette C6.R.

Tommy Milner, 25, of Lake Mary, Fla., joined Corvette Racing in 2011 as a full-season driver in the No. 3 Corvette C6.R. Milner now moves to the No. 4 Corvette C6.R alongside Oliver Gavin, 39, a Corvette Racing driver since 2002. Richard Westbrook, 36, will mark his second year as third driver in the No. 4 Corvette C6.R.

Corvette Racing will introduce its new driver lineup at the Sebring Winter Test on February 8-9 in preparation for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 17.

ChevyCorvette C7 prototype spied testing!

The Corvette is the very definition of a halo car, and the fact that 2013 marks its sixtieth year in production is nothing short of a miracle. The seventh-generation Corvette is still a model year away, during which time Chevy plans to send off the C6 with a special edition 60th Anniversary 427 Convertible.

Development of the C7, however, continues at full speed, and we have the very first shots of a prototype being tested in cold weather to prove it. The car in question is wrapped in vinyl covering, underneath which hides the familiar black-and-white swirl paint job we see so often on prototypes. Even still, we can identify some aspects of the evolution that will take place between the C6 and C7.

For one, comparing profile shots of this prototype with the C6, it's apparent that the front wheels have moved farther forward, increasing the dash-to-axle ratio and likely the wheelbase. The rear end also appears to be larger, with a higher deck lid and slightly longer overhang. We also noticed that this prototype's side mirrors are a different shape than the C6's, and its dual tailpipes are positioned closer together to form a perfectly spaced line of four pipes.

There's no evidence of a split rear window and a mid-engine layout is clearly not in the cards. These photos should put those wild rumors to rest, but what's under the hood and how the interior has been improved are still unknowns.

It all started 59 years ago today

On this day in 1953, a prototype Chevrolet Corvette sports car (EX-122) makes its debut at General Motors' (GM) Motorama auto show at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The Corvette, named for a fast type of naval warship, would eventually become an iconic American muscle car and remains in production today.

In the early 1950s, Harley Earl (1893-1969), the influential head designer for GM, then the world's largest automaker, became interested in developing a two-seat sports car. At the time, European automakers dominated the sports car market. Following the debut of the Corvette prototype at the Motorama show in January 1953, the first production Corvette was completed at a Flint, Michigan, plant on June 30, 1953. The car featured an all-fiberglass body, a white exterior and red interior, a relatively unremarkable 150-horsepower engine and a starting price tag of around $3,500 (not including taxes or an optional AM radio and heater). In an effort to give the Corvette an air of exclusivity, GM initially marketed the car to invitation-only VIP customers. This plan met with less-than-desirable results, as only a portion of the 300 Corvettes built that first year were sold. GM dropped the VIP policy the following year; however, Corvette sales continued to disappoint. In 1954, GM built around 3,600 of the 10,000 Corvettes it had planned, with almost a third of those cars remaining unsold by the start of 1955.

There was talk within GM of discontinuing the Corvette; however, GM rival Ford launched the sporty two-seat Thunderbird convertible in 1955 and the car quickly became a hit. GM didn't want to discontinue the Corvette and look like a failure next to its Big Three competitor, so the car remained in production and performance enhancements were made. That same year, a Belgian-born, Russian-raised designer named Zora Arkus-Duntov became head engineer for Corvette and put the car on a course that would transform it into a legend. Duntov had applied to work at GM after seeing the Corvette prototype at the 1953 Motorama show. According to The New York Times: "Once hired, he pushed through the decision to turn the Corvette into a high-performance sports car with a succession of more powerful engines. Chevrolet offered a 195-horsepower engine on the 1955 Corvette, a 240-horsepower engine on the 1956 Corvette and a 283-horsepower engine on the 1957 model." During the second half of the 1950s, Corvettes began setting speed records on the racing circuit.

After taking the tour with the GM Motorama, the EX-122 became a plaything for the engineering department. The 6-cylnder engine was removed and an 8-cylinder engine was installed, and it was used for various performance demonstrations. It gave such a good account of itself that immediately it was decided to abandon the 6-cylinder engine in regular Chevrolet Corvette production and supplement it with the new 8-cylinder as standard equipment.

The car was then purchased by a member of the engineering team for his daughter to drive to school. He sold the car in 1959 when his daughter left for college. The new owner was the one who realized how special the car was and began to accumulate documentation about the car.

In 2002, Kerbeck Corvette of Atlantic City, purchased the EX-122 from his estate. They began an exhaustive restoration to take the car back to it's original Motorama condition with one exception. The 8-cylinder engine installed by Zora and his team was left in the car making EX-122 not only the world's oldest Corvette but the first ever 8-cylider Corvette as well.

Although the car does travel the country many times a years for shows as well as being on loan for special events for General Motors, most days it can be seen at Kerbeck Corvette's Atlantic City showroom where Corvette enthusiasts are welcome to stop by and see the car and take pictures with it. Corvette Racing Signs Jordan Taylor

Corvette Racing, one of the more successful American Le Mans Series teams, has elevated one of the youngest professional drivers. The team has signed 20-year-old Jordan Taylor to join the highly experienced quartet of Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia, and Tom Milner for the season’s longest races: Sebring, Le Mans, and Petit Le Mans.

Corvette Racing has won eight ALMS titles and seven class wins at Le Mans; to hire a driver as young as Taylor shows that the team thinks a lot of his skills and potential.

“The level of competition in the 2011 American Le Mans Series GT category was intense, and we expect it to be just as fierce in 2012,” said GM Racing Director Mark Kent on ALMS.com. “Corvette Racing has been working hard over the winter to develop a complete package of cars, drivers, team, and technology that will be able to win in this extremely competitive environment.”

Taylor started his pro career in 2008 with a GT ride with Beyer racing in the Rolex 24 and a DP drive in the Brumos Porsche 250. Taylor was back with Beyer in 2009, and drove for Racers Edge in 2010. In 2011 Taylor moved to Autohaus, where he finished second in the team championship and tied for third with his teammate Bill Lester in the driver’s championship.

“Corvette Racing is one of the most iconic names in motorsports, and joining this team is a huge opportunity for me, “ said Taylor on ALMS.com. “There are certainly going to be challenges as I learn the capabilities of the Corvette C6.R race cars, become familiar with the team, adapt to new tracks, and race with new competitors. Chevrolet today unveiled the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition – the

fastest, most capable convertible in Corvette’s history – as well as a 60th Anniversary Package

that will be available on all 2013 Corvette models.

“The 2013 model year will be historic for Corvette, marking its 60th Anniversary and the final

year for the current ‘C6’ generation,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Marketing and

The combination of low mass and high output will make the 427 Convertible one of the fastest

convertibles in the world, delivering estimated 0-60 performance of 3.8 seconds, quarter-mile

performance of 11.8 seconds, lateral acceleration of 1.04 g and a top speed of more than 190

mph.

The 427 Convertible is available in 2LT, 3LT and 4LT trim levels and will carry a unique vehicle

identification number sequence, similar to the Corvette ZR1.

Charity Auction at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale

The first Corvette 427 Convertible offered to the public will go to the highest bidder at the

Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction, on Saturday, Jan. 21. Proceeds from the sale will benefit AARP’s Drive to End Hunger initiative.

A legacy of 427-powered Corvettes

Early 427-powered Corvettes, particularly convertibles, offered from 1966 to 1969 are some of

the most-coveted and collectable Corvettes ever produced.

The first 427-powered Corvette rolled off the assembly line for the 1966 model year. Two

performance levels of the 427 were initially offered – an “L30” version rated at 390 horsepower

and the “L72,” which cranked out 425 horsepower. Both were rated at 460 lb-ft. of torque.

The range of 427 engines grew in 1967, with the addition of the “L71” and “L88” options. The

L71 added a unique triple-carburetor induction system that helped boost output to 435

horsepower. Known to collectors as “427/435” cars, these ’67 models – especially the

convertibles – are especially sought-after collector cars.

The “L88” delivered 430-horsepower (with a single four-barrel carburetor) thanks to racing-tuned aluminum heads. Intended for customers who would immediately transform their new Corvette into a race car, the L88 was installed in just 216 production Corvettes between 1967 and 1969.

In 1969, a special “L89” 427 engine combined the L71’s induction system with the L88’s

aluminum heads, offering maximum horsepower with an approximately 100-pound weight

advantage over the standard iron heads. Also in 1969, Chevrolet built two “ZL1” 427 Corvette

coupes. The ZL1 engine was essentially an all-aluminum version of the L88, with the aluminum

cylinder block and heads offering a tremendous weight advantage for racing. More of the

engines were sold as crate engines to racers.

By 1970, the big-block engine grew to 454 cubic inches, just as the trend in high-compression,

high-performance engines was beginning to wane. The four-year run of 427 Corvettes was

already established as the golden era of performance

Commemorative Collector Edition and Anniversary Edition models

Rare and low-production examples of the Corvette have been around since its 1953

introduction, but Chevrolet didn’t begin building commemorative models until 1978, when the

25th Anniversary model – also known as the Silver Anniversary Corvette – was offered. The

Corvette was in its third generation then and at the close of that epoch in 1982, a Collectors

Edition was offered, as well.

Corvette Community Comes Together for the St. Judes Children's Hospital

Evan Thomason was 10-years-old when he lost his battle against cancer on September 22. While the medical and research staff at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was not able to save Evan, they managed to give him five years he might not have otherwise had with family and friends.

With the blessing of his mom Melissa, Corvetteforum will dedicate its fundraising efforts for St. Jude during 2012 to the memory of Evan, who touched so many people with his courage, positive attitude and joy for living.

Some of you had the chance to meet Evan and Melissa when you visited Memphis for the annual Corvetteforum visit to St. Jude, others know about him from what they have read about Evan on Corvetteforum. For those who didn’t know Evan, here are a couple of links that will give you some insight:

The (soon to be) End of the Line for the 6th Generation Corvette

This past summer, Mark Reuss visited the Bowling Green Assembly Center – the home of the Corvette – and announced a significant, multi-million dollar investment to upgrade the plant. During his remarks, Mark told the audience that there were two model years (2012 and 2013) remaining for the current generation of Corvette.

Recently, Alan Batey, GM Vice President of Chevrolet sales, informed dealers attending the regional Chevrolet dealer meetings what their sales goals would be for Corvettes in the 2012 calendar year and what Corvette training requirements would have to be completed to be eligible for initial production of the next generation Corvette. This is based on the anticipated limitations that will be applicable to the initial production of the next generation Corvette.

These announcements make evident that one of the most exciting Corvette generations is coming to a close. Kerbeck Corvette would like to take some time to share with you some details around the 2012 and 2013 model can be prepared for the end of the C6 Corvette.

Information Regarding 2012 Corvette Model Run

The current 2012 model run which features the Chevrolet Centennial Edition Corvette will end in May 2012. The final consensus for 2012 Corvette is scheduled to occur during February 2012 period, and the last cycle to submit orders for the 2012 model run will occur in March 2012.

The completion of the 2012 Corvette model run is also the last opportunity for dealers to order the current Chevrolet Centennial Edition Package (RPO: ZLC) featuring the Carbon Flash metallic paint, and Carlisle Blue exterior color (RPO: GLF). The Centennial Edition package, and the Carbon Flash and Carlisle Blue exterior colors will NOT be offered for the 2013 model, and will end production BEFORE the rest of the 2012 Corvette model run. Under the current schedule the last time we will be able to order Carlisle Blue is 02/09/12 and the last chance to order the Centennial Package will be 03/01. The last week to order ANY 2012 Corvette will be 03/15.

Keep in mind that these dates are flexible and could change a week or two in either direction. If you are interested in either of the Centennial Edition Package or the Carlisle Blue exterior color, it is suggested you contact us now to check current availability or to order your desired 2012 Corvette model.

Information Regarding 2013 Corvette Model Run

The 2013 model run is scheduled to start production in May 2012. New model year Corvettes usually don’t start production until the last week or so of June so this signifies a move up in production.

The 2013 model run is the final model run for the C6 Corvette. This means for many customers, the 2013 model run will be the last opportunity to purchase the current Corvette models, including Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1 In addition, the 2013 model run marks the 60th Anniversary of this Great American Sports Car. GM will be sending us information about the exciting changes for the 2013 Corvette and we will be sharing it with you in the coming weeks.

The 2013 Corvette production period is expected to run for approximately nine months with production to end sometime around February 2013. This does not mean that the C7 Corvette will be out early. The next model run will NOT immediately follow the end of the 2013 model run since the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, KY will need a few months to retool the assembly lines for production of the 7^th Generation Corvette.

The Coming of the Next Generation Corvette

Suffice it to say the introduction of any next generation Corvette is one of the most highly anticipated introductions in the automobile industry. The expected arrival of a new generation Corvette generates a lot of showroom excitement and traffic. It also requires the dealership’s sales and service teams to sharpen and improve their performance and technology skills to meet the needs of the Corvette customer. It is for this reason that any Chevrolet dealer seeking to sell and service Corvette must agree to invest in special tools and training for the dealership’s personnel. What is Chevrolet Up to Now?

Lot# 3040...

It doesn't sound like much but you never can tell.

While looking through the lists of cars going through the Barret Jackson auction next week I saw a big Chevrolet Bowtie where there should be a picture of a car for Lot# 3040. This, of course, got my attention right away so I had to read further. The description says:

"A special Chevrolet model will be revealed during the auction where bidders have the opportunity to take home this one-of-a-kind vehicle. Proceeds to benefit AARP Drive for Hunger. Will be sold at approximately 2pm Saturday January 20, 2012.

Have you ever wanted to own a piece of history? This may be your chance. A special Chevrolet model will be revealed during the auction where bidders have the opportunity to take home this one-of-a-kind vehicle. **PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT AARP DIRVE FOR HUNGER** **WILL BE SOLD AT APPROXIMATELY 2PM SATURDAY JANUARY 21, 2012** "

Chevrolet has had a history of auctioning off special cars at this auction for charity dating back to when, in 2008, they auctioned off the first 2009 Corvette ZR1 for $1,000,000 with the proceeds going to the American Red Cross.

After that, they have auctioned off other cars including the first 2012 Centennial Edition Corvette Z06 and a 2012 Camaro ZL1.

So, that leads us to wonder what Chevy his hiding behind the curtain on Lot# 3040? While GM has remained mum on the topic, most people believe that the C7 Corvette will be introduced in 2014 and that 2013 will be the last year of the C6 generation.

While it's much too early for Chevy to show anything on a new model that's at least 2 years away we could be looking at a special edition Corvette. 2013 will mark the 60th Anniversary of the Corvette and many people are hoping to see a 60th Anniversary Edition, but again GM has been very tight lipped.

Of course, the rumor mills have been going strong about a Camaro ZL1 Convertible as well. Or, the mystery car may not be a Corvette or a Camaro. The much anticipated 2013 Malibu is getting ready to hit the dealer's lot and could make a preview here. Or maybe they've got something brand new up their sleeves.

Whatever they are planning the one thing we can be sure of is that we won't be disappointing. These charity auctions have raised a lot of money for some great causes and have featured some very special cars and we expect nothing less this time around!
