The kids in our "family tour."

Visiting Thomas Jefferson's home may have been one of our vacation favorites. Lots of neat inventions, beautiful scenery, fun history stuff.

Vacay 5: more Colonial times

noreply@blogger.com (GMmom) — Sat, 09 Jun 2012 19:35:00 +0000

We visited Colonial Williamsburg again to see a few things we'd missed the first round. We worked in the brickyard, saw a carriage, and heard ghost stories.

Vacay 4: Busch Gardens

noreply@blogger.com (GMmom) — Sat, 09 Jun 2012 19:27:00 +0000

We spend a day & a half at Busch Gardens, an amusement park. Lots of fun rides!

Vacay 3: Colonial Williamsburg

noreply@blogger.com (GMmom) — Sat, 09 Jun 2012 19:19:00 +0000

Our first full day at Colonial Williamsburg, Gabi rented a costume and both kids got hats. We watched tradesmen, heard music, took a class on using a drop spindle, ate yummy food, and generally had a good time without ever having to get back in the van. :)

Vacay 2: Richmond Iron Works National Park

noreply@blogger.com (GMmom) — Wed, 06 Jun 2012 03:43:00 +0000

We stopped in to learn about the civil war at this national park. Confederate canons were made here. Micah loved watching the strategies of important battles on a digital map table. Both kid's completed tasks to earn the "junior ranger" status. This museum also had a cool glass elevator that showed how the different bricks were used on different levels. And President Lincoln sculpture.

Vacay 1: Vandy

noreply@blogger.com (GMmom) — Wed, 06 Jun 2012 03:36:00 +0000

We rolled into Nashville in time for lunch at SATCO and a nice leg-stretching walk around Vandy campus.

Goodbye, Mackie

noreply@blogger.com (GMmom) — Mon, 21 May 2012 15:25:00 +0000

We had to say goodbye to our 12 year old cat, Mackenzie, recently. She's been my constant companion for over a decade -- always my shadow. She helped me raise the kids and always got up with us in the night, never letting any babies "cry it out." She moved easily, having lived in 5 houses with us and if we were there, she knew it was home. She grieved when her litter-mate Tipper died in 2008 and found a new spirit with the adoption of Miriam and Moses a few month later. We all miss her. I could write more, but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves/

Photos DO Lie

noreply@blogger.com (GMmom) — Mon, 30 Apr 2012 17:29:00 +0000

Micah and I have been playing with a new photo app on my phone that's let's you create weird photo montages. He even poses for pictures with his hand in a position so I can easily add a lightsaber. :) the one of him on the swing, he made by himself. Seven year old boys' minds are kind of freaky.

Daddy-Daughter Dance

noreply@blogger.com (GMmom) — Mon, 30 Apr 2012 17:22:00 +0000

The local girl scout troops put on a daddy-daughter dance. They had a great time! Gabi made her wrist corsage and Blake's boutonniere with scraps from the crafty box-- ribbons, buttons, felt. They went out for Mexican food in their fancy clothes before dancing.

Need anything yarnbombed?

noreply@blogger.com (GMmom) — Sun, 15 Apr 2012 00:54:00 +0000

Gabi and I attended a workshop at the Arkansas Literary Festival on yarnbombing. Yarnbombing is also called knit graffiti; it's basically public art installations using yarn crafts. At the workshop, we recycled thrifts store sweaters into flowers to yarnbomb a column in the library. We also took a bunch of premade materials (knit squares by the library's sit'n'stitch club and a yarn puff balls made by the teen crafting club and well as odds & end from other volunteers & thrift shops) out into the garden area in front of the Main Library. Gabi was the most enthusiastic, focused, hardworking person at the yarnbombing. She was also full of creative ideas. The artist leading the workshop was impressed by Gabi very much. We were both interviewed by a public radio reporter if you happen to hear us.
