We are happy to announce a new feature that will surely make managing your KeywordEnvy account faster and more effective. You can now import sites and keywords directly from Google Analytics into your KeywordEnvy account. To get started, log into your account and click the new “Import Google Analytics” link in the right toolbar or on the Sites or Keywords tabs.

When you use the import tool, you’ll see your top keywords according to Google Analytics, grouped by country and ordered by the number of hits you’ve received from each one. With one click, they will be added to your KeywordEnvy monitoring settings.

We are planning further integration with Google, including allowing you to use Google Analytics instead of the KeywordEnvy tracking script to collect data on new incoming keywords so that KeywordEnvy can notify you of what keywords you should be monitoring.

We have also integrated with Google Apps Marketplace, and will soon enable you to access your KeywordEnvy account from within your Google Analytics account with a single sign-in.

This is also great news for brand new users of KeywordEnvy. After registering, you can import all of your sites and keywords from Google Analytics in minutes, and already be up and running our search engine ranking monitoring tools.

Leave feedback below!

Google made a rare update to their homepage and search results page design yesterday. The new design features a brighter, cleaner looking logo and a new left menu on the search results page. The results themselves are also brighter and feature an updated layout. Google is also tracking all clicks by redirecting clicks on each search result through their own tracking script.

This change meant that rank trackers needed to update their code to support the change. KeywordEnvy has made the appropriate updates in order to continue to provide accurate rankings.

Rankings Tab
To view your top ranking URLs for each of your keywords, click on the report icon () beside each ranking job. You will see the URL at the bottom of your rankings report.

API Export
To view your ranking URLs , you can either access the “getjob” or “getjobs” method. ”getjob” will return all jobs for whatever website you are trying to export data for. For each job, it will tell you the most recent ranking, and the URL associated with that ranking. ”getjobs” will return a history of all rankings for each of your jobs. Beside each of these rankings (either daily, weekly or monthly depending on your plan), you will now see the URL which we tracked in the search engine results.

We are working on more updates to both our rankings pages and API, so stay tuned.

And then there were 2….

SEOs are waking up this morning to the news that Microsoft Bing will now be providing the search results for Yahoo’s search engine. You may be wondering what the implications will be for you and your search engine rankings.

Essentially, it means that the volume of searches being made at Yahoo will stay the same (or may see an increase from being in the news), but that your rankings in the Yahoo index will be replaced by your rankings in the Bing index.

This could be a good or a bad thing for you depending on which search engine you rank more highly in.

The change will not be made overnight, since Yahoo! and Microsoft will have to wait for regulatory approval before the deal can commence. While we have time to prepare, you should begin to focus on your Bing rankings, which will account for both Yahoo and Bing search rankings in the future.

Ways to increase your Bing rankings

1) Ensure your website has been submitted to Bing Webmaster Center
Submit each of your websites to Bing’s index, and make sure that you submit your sitemap url. From here, you can monitor the page score of your top ranked pages, and you can check for crawl issues such as 404 errors. This tool is also handy for monitoring the backlinks that Bing has detected for you, and they have a very useful tool for checking your page relevancy against different keywords.

2) Go through basic SEO best practices. Give your website a checkup.
Ensure that all of your pages have relevant title and description tags. Make sure that they are not stuffed with keywords, and that they are relevant to your page content. Ensure that you make use of H1 and H2 tags for headlines and the most relevant phrases on your pages. Ensure that your title tags are not the same for every page on your website. SEOMoz has a fantastic article on SEO best practices if you want to read more.

3) Submit your site to Bing
Perhaps this should have been the first point, but if you aren’t already listed in Bing’s results, submit your website. To check if Bing has indexed you, perform a search on Bing for site:yourwebsite.com.

Ok, I’ve optimized my website for Bing. What now?

If you follow those simple steps, Bing will easily index you, and give you feedback of any issues your website may have. Follow best practices, and you should be ranking for your main terms.

Microsoft Bing is apparently very interested in integrating with Yahoo’s existing search innovations, such as BOSS (Build your Own Search Service) and SearchMoney, so services running search engines on those APIs will also begin to serve Bing results. SEOs will quickly see that their Bing rankings are going to start being much, much more important when they are optimizing their websites.

Today we responded to a customer with questions on how to use the Data Availability API. We thought it would be helpful to share the response with you here, in lieue of more detailed documentation. If you create an app based on our API, let us know about how you are using your data!

Get the details after the break.

A basic API request would look like http://api.keywordenvy.com/export.php?key=<your key>&action=getsites. This will return XML that looks like the following example.

<root>
<node>
<site_id>15</site_id>
<site_url>http://www.keywordenvy.com</site_url>
<site_name>KeywordEnvy</site_name>
<created>2008-03-16 00:05:24</created>
<account_id>1</account_id>
<site_description>SEO Tracking Software</site_description>
<site_code>f69e55793c7ad5d91fda4151e38c1f6b</site_code>
<status>Active</status>
<favicon_url>http://www.keywordenvy.com/favicon.ico</favicon_url>
</node>
</root>

Using the site_id value in these results, you can then pull data specific to each of your websites. For example:

http://api.keywordenvy.com/export.php?key=<your key>&action=gettraffic&site_id=15&history=2 will return search queries made to my Keyword Envy site example over the last 2 days.

<root>
<node>

<hit_id>6304988</hit_id>
<account_id>1</account_id>
<site_id>15</site_id>
<created>2009-05-26 03:21:16</created>
<engine_id>16</engine_id>
<keyword>Engine Keyword Ranking Search</keyword>

<referrer>http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=Engine+Keyword+Ranking+Search&FORM=QSRE2</referrer>
<request>http://www.keywordenvy.com/</request>
<page>1</page>
<language>en-us</language>
<keyword_id>0</keyword_id>
<bounce></bounce>
<session>56d99eccf81a45dec07393bfcca2d5df</session>

<engine>Live</engine>
<country_id>0</country_id>
<url>live</url>
<status>Active</status>
<position>8</position>
<country></country>
</node>
</root>

You can see we’re returning details about each search, such as the search engine (Live), the page you appeared on (1), the exact url on your website that the customer landed on (http://www.keywordenvy.com), etc.

http://api.keywordenvy.com/export.php?key=<your key>&action=getjobs&site_id=15 will return a list of all keywords being monitored by my Keyword Envy site example.

<root>
<node>
<job_id>166</job_id>

Rankings - export each day’s rankings for each of your monitoring jobs

Goals

To start using the API, log into your account and visit our “Export Your Data” page. You can generate an API Key there to get started. Our API currently exports in XML only, but we plan to add more support if it is requested.
