The strain was not a hybrid but rather a mutation from White Crystal Red Shrimps (CRS). The genetic make up is still uncertain. But from what I had observed, black is dominant, and red as recessive, possibly autosomal recessive. I had approximately 1/4 of RP from two BP parents in a few of the drops. But other breeders claimed to have no Red Pandas from many of their drops.

Black was never a popular color among aqua enthusiasts in Taiwan, and hence, was never really seemed as 'prized' aqua pets. However, in Japan, black shrimps--Black Diamonds, Dark Blue Tigers--really took over popularity recently over traditional CRS. And now with the introduction of BP, Japanese shrimp breeders went into a frenzy that hasn't being seen since MFF introducing Hinomanu in bidders.com four years ago. Black is the now the most sought-after color among shrimp enthusiasts in Japan.

Breeders can produce Black Pandas in two ways: BP x BP or BP x black and white CRS. BP X BP will certainly give you at least 75% BP, with up to 25% RP. The latter carries a low percentage, possibly less than five percent.

The survivability in BP is relatively weak as compared to CRS, especially with pregnant females. Eggs carrying females die easily. Weak survival gene, without a question, will be one of the major factors that will sustain the popularity of BP for some time to come.

kuku
Apr. 1st, 2009

======
original from : http://www.coolshrimp.com/viewthread.php?tid=32377&extra=page%3D1###

BLUE CRS
===================================================
Update - 3/6/2009

The 1/9/09 information about the mutant of CRS, CBS should be not mostly correct ~
About the part of Black King Kong and Wine Red where they from.

Most of the people know about Wine Red, and black king Kong. but where they come from?
I asked a Wine Red breeder, he said 2 years ago he got first one from CBS. And the recently hot Black King Kong many said it is from CBS as well and carry blue gens!

Wine Red quite sure is from CBS(should contain CRS gens), some information said Black King Kong s from CBS (should contain blue gens) as well.

Why black ? it leaded me thinking of the origins of colors as RGB /CMYK

So, CBS seem can derivative any other colors ?
I think the potential of the CRS/CBS is not limited Red and Black, now ~ Some started derive a Blue GWS. So, colors would be possible to grow more. Green/Yellow.
may be time to start a Colony with mixed Color ~ It may have chances of making other colors on your first hand

===================================================
1/9/09

Black King Kong and Wine Red are very interesting mutant!
Their price is not that high as before, because some breeder already success breeding BKK and WR.
The latest one is Blue CRS!

Here is the post about the mutant BLUE color CRS from a member of coolshrimps.
===========================================================
URL: http://www.coolshrimp.com/viewthread.php?tid=3302&extra=page%3D2

pictures are from URL: http://www.coolshrimp.com/viewthread.php?tid=3302&extra=page%3D2
===============================================================

As I see the CRS market still prefer on original CRS, vivid blood red and thick white.
CRS gens are stable for many years; mutant's CRS is not that stable as CRS.

Colors of CRS :
Traditional Red
Whole Red, Whole Black, Whole White
Wine Red, Black King Kong (panda) , Blue CRS

*other species animals to create another different colors
Example :
Red Toy Poodle's ancestor are white and Black toy Poodle.
CRS original from Black Bee to red and white.
Golden White from CRS.

so, it may be a lead to us. After the Golden White appear 2-3 years, the raise of the other mutant colors are appearing within 1-2 years.
I think Golden White may be a key to other color.
CBS can become Wine Red.
CBS = Black King Kong (panda),
Golden White + CBS = Blue CRS.

GWS has 3-4 types:
GWS from pure GWS, snow white
GWS breed from CBS, GWS's shell some appear little blue.
GWS breed from CRS, GWS's shell some appear little red/pink.

Wine Red is from GWS carry little red + keep breeding with CRS.
BLUE CRS is from GWS carry blue gens + keep breeding with CBS.

But the chance to breed mutant offspring may be .001%, so large quantity may has more chance.

2 Ways of using their nice mutant color :
1) choose the most vivid one breed back CBS/CRS to get extreme solid piece.
2 ) When 1 pair of mutant offspring appear, keep them together and breed.
but mostly the first pair of mutant is very fragile since the unstable gens.
Stabilizing their gens for generation, then they will like GWS, or the first group of CRS.

I think this is interesting in CRS evolution history!
Like Human skins color: White, Yellow, Black, Red.

Are different species' gens have the similarities?

All above are my ideas only, I haven't breed any mutant yet, beside keeping GWS with CRS around 3-4 generation now. Some info I read from coolshrimps forum.

[other] Free MS Software

Free Microsoft software with student ID:
https://www.dreamspark.com/Products/ProductList.aspx

[CRS] Taiwan origin "Black King Kong"

original URL : http://www.coolshrimp.com/viewthread.php?tid=25904&extra=page%3D1
====
Taiwan origin "Black King Kong" CRS are more fragile than CBS in someways.

Do you have a picture of the Shrimplets?

Mixing CBS/CRS together has 2 opposite opinions:
1) 1 side of saying CRS are from temped and stabilize gens shouldn't mix other color to intervene stabilize gens, it would affect the whiteness/redness.
2) 2nd side of saying CRS's weakness shrimps, need to adding new blood/ gens CRS to strengthen back. After awhile of breeding CRS, you will find some weakness CRS, their characteristic of never grow bigger than 1cm / some female won't berry / some CRS appear pinkish transparent.
2A ) It does create coffee color's CRS like Red+black in low % and it your choice of how to handle it. You can pick 2 coffee breed and breed coffee colony or gave up coffee pieces.

so, if you a breeder serious about CRS blood line, 1st should be your choice - Separate tank. If you a breeder just want to keep healthy CRS, 2nd should be your choice.

I am mixing them together and I haven't seen coffee pieces yet.

CBS and CRS are same grading system.
In my opinion, CBS are more vivid color.

If you wanna find out the secret of CBS / what to do with CBS, >> http://kh2crs.blogspot.com/2009/01/info-blue-crs.html <<

Other forum's opinion of CBS/CRS (AI's Bill):
http://arizonainverts.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=733

"
b be red recessive
B be black dominant (diamond/bee shrimp)

When you cross:

Rxb=Bb+Bb+Bb+Bb -> (N cylce from http://www.fishlore.com) when we are doing the cycle of the tank, need to go through stage 1-3 (N cylce from http://www.fishlore.com)
(picture from http://www.fishlore.com)
1) NH3/ NH4 deadly to CRS.
2) NH4 (aerio bacteria) --> NO2, this process bacteria need O2 (air pump) and the bacteria can is ok to light.
3) NO2 (aerio bacteria)-> NO3 should be around the same process in step2, a filter and O2 (air pump) is good for this.

The last step 4 :

"Nitrates are not as harmful to tropical fish as ammonia or nitrites, but nitrate is still harmful in large amounts." (from http://www.fishlore.com)
and this is the most common problem for CRS breeders keeping NO3 below 25ppm
4) NO3-> back to tank / in air <--- this need anaerobic bacteria
(they prefer no light and no O2 to process )
"In saltwater fish tanks, live rock and deep sand beds can have anaerobic areas where denitrifying bacteria can breakdown nitrates into harmless nitrogen gas that escapes through the water surface of the aquarium. "(from http://www.fishlore.com)

Since my problem is high NO3 and the problem is from step 4,
I did the DIY, is strengthening Step 4 and providing larger environment for anaerobic bacteria thats why I use black tube and a long slow flow tube with running out of O2 (since the tube is at the end of the canister step2,3 the bacteria use it) and this is the reason I attach the tubing at the end of the canister.

Also, UGF can kind of turning the substract to a bacteria grow area. and i only use 2/3 area of the tank as UGF. left side without UGF mainly for plant and for grown anaerobic bacteria (susbtract lack of light). Right side is for aerobic bacteria grow. here is how and why I use UGF.

Then after running it 2-3weeks. before NO3 is 25-35ppm, the DIY did lower to Zero.

Thats about how its work,
if u have a same NO3 problem, here is my suggestion DIY that cost only the long black tubing for $15 from internet and a hole of the outflow.

but i didn't use it anymore, since my other pre fiter can do the same work.
from 20L thread
----------

kh2crs@gmail.com media), tom filter for UGF
Lights: 10000k, 8000k
Plant: subs, flame moss, fountain, erios

This is the Totto prefilter on the left hanging on the left of the 20L
Picture from lucky-shrimp:
my choice of media is following:http://www.lucky-shrimp-discuz.idv.tw/view...;extra=page%3D2
first 2 is wool filter for filter large particle in water.
last 2 is Totto bio media

Here is the filtration map of my 20L

red part is Totto pre filter (with out power ) pulled by a Eheim 2215 ( Main bio filtration )
blue part is the Under Gravel filter ( for small 20 H/10G ) so its size around 2/3 tank and powered by the Tom hanging filter at the back.
the UGF covered by a blue pad then over the substact.
More explanation of UGF from my blog: http://kh2crs.blogspot.com/2008/09/tank-mo...ndergravel.html

so this 20L is under 2 way filtrations:
1) totto +2215 for main filtration
2) tom filter + UGF
bad side of UGF is reducing the life of the ADA susbtract.
so I choose a small power Tom Canister filter for running the UGF

kh2crs@gmail.com I added a sponge between water output to water level to avoid the water dropping sound. Second day, I found over 10 pieces CRS swim into filter and get through the sponge swim anti-gravity =_+. So, only 1 bag can turn into "powder" and "normal" size soil, saving $ but take more time.

UGF > Pad cover guard > "normal" size substract 5-6 cm > "powder" size substract 3-4cm

Why setting up UGF in this way?
UGF (UnderGravel Filter) - will help the in flow more average, but the water go through the substract may shorten the life of substract. so, ADA amazonia I is better for solid form.

Pad cover - use thin filter pad/bio pad/laundry mesh bag to cover the UGF. to avoid the substract get into UGF for longer run of the undergravel avoid the flow going slower.

Normal size layer - give better flow of the UGF, and few chance to stuck the UGF.

Powder size Top layer- used because the CRS can easily pick on them for eating and prevent the frys dig into substract.

Which UGF is best for you?
1) Choose smaller size UGF of the tank.
eg. 2.5 feet tank use 2 feet UGF. (10 gallon UGF normally has 2 portion UGF, use half of it) to set up a balanced cycle for half tank for Aerobic bacteria bed and half anti-aerobic N-Bacteria.
2) strong joint between the gravel and the intake tube. I faced the UGF tube slip off and the substract all go down the UG plate. (become useless)

Thanks,
KH

[CARE] Substract / Black soil for CRS Diet

CRS eat almost 24 hrs, and 70-80% daily diet from water, substract/black soil, and bacteria.
Only 20-30% are actually from the feeding food.

A good stable(mature) tank with GOOD Substract they can survival very good, even you away for 5days or a week. good substract not only provide different elements, but also bacteria and shrimps love black soil.

If you use under gavel filtration, its better to use "normal' above undergravel and a "powder" layer above "normal", because this can provide more flow of the undergravel.

If you just normal filtration with sponge guard, you can use either, but many said top layer should be "powder" which they can eat easily.

Normally, I use only 1 bag 9L and choose the smaller substract by spinning on a mesh/ hole bowl (washing fruit /veggie/rices). I can use only 1 bag to get "powder" and "normal" size soil, but take more time.

ADA Amazonia I is better than II as many CRS breeder recommended. I think the same too. ADA I is hard to break into powder but ADA II can be easily push and turn to powder.

[CRS] CRS picture - Update

Today - Setp 10 -2008 changed name to http://kh2crs.blogspot.com/
