I was sick of myself and I got so pissed off I lost 37 pounds of fat and turned my body around. It changed my life so much I decided to become a personal trainer.

- I started off working for a big corporate gym... I worked about 30 hours a week and after 1 year I started to hate it... especially when I was always getting half my paycheck taken from me and having a manager that was sniffing up my a** every hour pushing me to sell people on the floor.

Trying to sell personal training to a 50 year old cranky lady on the elliptical machine is NOT a pretty sight.

- Then I got into one on one freelance training where I would go to people's houses and train them for an hour. This sucked just as badly. And I was STILL working like a dog.

Fitness Business Guest Post By Dan Go

Hey there…hope you are doing great, KILLING it in your fitness business and changing lives in the process.

My name is Dan Go and you don't know me so maybe a quick history on myself and my business…

- I was a fat kid who was made fun of by friends and family. I was sick of myself and I got so pissed off I lost 37 pounds of fat and turned my body around. It changed my life so much I decided to become a personal trainer.

- I started off working for a big corporate gym… I worked about 30 hours a week and after 1 year I started to hate it… especially when I was always getting half my paycheck taken from me and having a manager that was sniffing up my a** every hour pushing me to sell people on the floor.

Trying to sell personal training to a 50 year old cranky lady on the elliptical machine is NOT a pretty sight.

- Then I got into one on one freelance training where I would go to people's houses and train them for an hour. This sucked just as badly. I was working half the hours but the other half of the hours were spent traveling all over Toronto. I hate driving… I hate driving even more when it's snowing.

And I was STILL working like a dog.

- Then I got smart and decided to do boot camps so I could make more money and help more people.

I leveraged my time better… worked less hours and was able to really develop A BUSINESS rather than a hobby. I also found it to be easier to hire people to train under this type of business rather than hiring a one-on-one travel to your door personal training sales person. It's just too easy to steal clients that way.

Then I read the 4 hour work week by Tim Ferris and shortly afterward met Chris Mccombs. Then everything changed. I saw Chris at the fitness millionaires event in New Jersey and after hearing my Aussie friend Travis Jones make $10,000 a month using his ninja tactics I immediately got coaching from him no questions asked.

So what did I learn from Chris Mccombs coaching and the 4 hour workweek?

If I wanted to make any advancements in my income, my business model and my free time I had to outsource the living sh*t out of my business… and well… sometimes my life.

Trust me this was no easy task especially when you have an entire business to look at. I couldn't help but feel extremely overwhelmed at the task of outsourcing my entire business.

It was like staring at a 7 foot jigsaw puzzle inside a brain twister.

And I was also stuck on the, "Well if I can do it myself then I'll save more money"

WRONG!

I understand… Outsourcing and delegating is as hard for entrepreneurs as it is for politicians to tell the truth. But the simple fact is: If you want to grow your business, make more money, have more free time…

Then you gotta outsource and delegate the stuff you don't want to do and that is holding you back from progressing as a business owner.

"Delegate or Stagnate" - Jay Van Andel (Co founder of Amway corporation)

What do I outsource? Training, administration, my fears, my worries, research, email, craigslist ad posting, seo article writing, website design and maintenance, video editing, sales and prospecting and much much more.

I still do a little training but I focus the bulk of my time on marketing, systems creation, product/service creation and living a life.

So again I repeat that if you want to make more money, have more free time, and really grow your business to the maximum potential it should be at…. then you GOTTA outsource a lot of it.

7 Secrets to outsourcing/delegating your business

1. Write out all the things you do not like to do and get someone else to do them.

Things I don't like to do:

Administration (entering in contracts to my EFT, Sendoutcards.com, into my prospect lists, clients list etc..)

Bookkeeping

Accounting

Cold contacting corporations to do lunch and learns

Link building

Research

This list goes on

So what I did was hire a virtual assistant to do all of that stuff and then some.

I'm working on even having him send out press releases I create to all the major news stations in my area. I got him from Elance.com and I'm only paying $5/hour for him.

He is so cheap, his quality of work is superb and so detailed which leaves me thinking…. North America is screwed. But regardless of that I use him because he is the bomb.

**Side Note: If you do get a virtual assistant make sure that he is part of a reputable team of virtual assistants so if the VA leaves they will have someone to plug in right away without going through the whole training process all over again.**

2. Use Dan Kennedy's 7 step process to delegate your work effectively:

We can't just plop a task on someone's desk and say, "Get'er done". That will leave us very frustrated business owners. I did that and I ran into too many problems. So when I read this it struck a cord with me that I use it every time I delegate a process/system:

Define what is to be done.

Be certain the delegatee understands what is to be done.

Explain why is is to be done as your are prescribing it to be done.

Teach them how it is to be done without micro managing.

Be sure the delegatee understands the how to process.

Set the deadline for completion or progress report.

Be sure you have an agreement to the date or time and method.

3. Come to the understanding and appreciation that "Good enough is Good enough"

Often when we think of handing the reins over to another person (especially when it comes to training your boot camps/personal training clients) we have the fear that they won't do it the way we want it to be done. And for the most part….they won't.

Many, many things can be delegated to people who will not do them the way you would, won't do them as perfectly as you would, but will wind up with the same result. Every one of these things should be delegated. In fact you MUST delegate. You cannot move ahead without jettisoning some responsibilities and tasks in order to make room for new, more valuable tasks and responsibilities.

Sometimes…most of the time…good enough is really just good enough.

4. Fire yourself

The only way to make more money and have more fun is to "FIRE YOURSELF" from your job.

Some owners are so focused on doing the $10-an-hour jobs that they never get to the $100-an-hour job of: Marketing, bringing in new customers and keeping old customers coming back.

You can always hire someone to train, do the administration, article writing, web design etc…but you can't hire someone to effectively market and promote your training business.

5. Stop micro managing

This was a hard one especially for me.

I was looking over trainers shoulders and attending their classes regularly to make sure they would do things the way I wanted to. All it did was make them apprehensive to train a class because they had someone looking over their shoulder the whole time.

Resisting the temptation to micro-manage will require plenty of will power especially when you decide to give up the training aspect of your business. The above example is just one of a number of reasons I stay out of my trainers ways when it comes to training.

Everyone has their own training style but they will blossom more without being scared of making a mistake. Sometimes you just gotta let go.

6. Delegate the things that scare you

I have a hard time sending press releases to newspapers and contacting TV producers.

I also have a hard time cold calling corporations to approach them for lunch and learns.

Think of the things that scare you… then find out which of those fears you can actually delegate to someone else. I know it's kinda chicken but man if I wasn't going to do it… who would?

It's also cool when you can tell your VA to worry about a certain thing thats on your mind and he will.

I also tell my VA to send random emails to harrass one of my best friends in Hong Kong but that's another story.

7. You gotta rank high on Google, get clients from the internet and have a high converting site. It's like having an automatic marketing and sales team at your disposal.

Almost all of my new clientele comes from referral or the internet. You don't know how good a feeling it is to get 1-2 new prospects a day banging on my door, raising their hand saying, "Hi, I'd like to try you out!"

The only way I could have done this is by using Market Annihilator and Fitness Website Formula. This is not an advertisement but more like a public service announcement:

To have your business on true autopilot you gotta rank high on Google and have a website that converts. The investment is worth much more than it's original value in the long run. If it wasn't for those two programs I wouldn't be where I am now and that's no lie.

That's it for outsourcing and delegation. Again when you look at it from above it can be scary and downright impossible But all it takes is that first step, then you create momentum and you are on your way to owning a business rather than having a business own you.

I hope this post helped you out. Please leave a comment below and let me know what you thought of it or if you have a delegation secret to share I'd love to hear it!

Ya know, video is a great way to dramatically increase conversions on your website, as it allows you to condense your sales message into a short, but powerful mini TV commercial if you will.

And on video, testimonials are MUCH more believable than is just a picture with text.

Also, if you have lots of unique optimized pages on your site, often times your "text based" sales message won't be the greatest on every page... since you probably outsourced most of your entry pages to a lower-end writer.

But you can stick your video into each of these optimized entry pages, and still have a powerful sales massage.

Ya know, video is a great way to dramatically increase conversions on your website, as it allows you to condense your sales message into a short, but powerful mini TV commercial if you will.

And on video, testimonials are MUCH more believable than is just a picture with text.

Also, if you have lots of unique optimized pages on your site, often times your "text based" sales message won't be the greatest on every page… since you probably outsourced most of your entry pages to a lower-end writer.

But you can stick your video into each of these optimized entry pages, and still have a powerful sales massage.

One template I like for sales videos on fitness sites is…

1. The Intro (simple… you introduce yourself)

2. State the problem - examples:

your visitor having trouble losing weight

nothing seems to work

they can't stick to diets and boring workouts

just can't seem to get into shape no matter what they do

most diets fail

people hate working out

who has the time?

3. The solution ( position your service as THE solution to their problem)

4. Proof ( show video testimonials and before and after pics… HOWEVER - do know that there are some new FTC laws regarding testimonials.. I'd ask you're lawyer about it as I can't give legal advice)

5. Call to action - ( tell them EXACTLY what to do - like… "call now"… or "register now"… or "read the rest of this page"… or "leave your email now"… whatever it is you want them to do)

I'd keep your video between 1-5 minutes, and show footage of people enjoying the workouts and throw in some cool music.

And here's a little tip, using a still video image at the beginning of an attractive female working out can increase the percent of times your video gets watched ( among males AND females)

And make sure to tell people to watch the video with some sort of little copy doodle as well as having a "click to play" button

The image of the video on the right is an example of the doodle, click-to-play button as well as the female ( this is NOT a live video, just an image)

While they don't all follow this format, here's some sites with videos that do well…

http://www.notyouraveragebootcamp.com/

http://straightupfitness.com/

http://www.fitconcepts.com/

http://bootcampsydney.com.au/

http://www.spokanefitnesscoach.com/

If you want a good sales video for your fitness website, here's what you should do…

1. Get someone to film highlights of your workouts and testimonials of your clients for a few days ( Keep in mind, people will want to SEE what your workouts look like in the video… they want a demonstration)

2. Script your sales pitch ( Keep it short and punchy, think quick little soundbites)

3. Next….. Film you talking your sales message

A good way to film it is not to read it and try to go through the whole thing at once…

What works is to memorize a few sentences or a paragraph and talk it, then move the camera in and talk the next part, then move the camera back and talk the next part… so you only have to memorize a little bit at a time… just move the camera in or out every time you "cut"

You can see how I've done it in the sales video on this page http://www.marketannihilator.com/ ( Notice how the camera move in and out every time I cut)

4. Then, give it to a good editor and be specific when you tell them you want ( show examples like the videos listed above)

You can find decent film editors on Craigslist… I used to barter out my editing, I trained her in my groups and she edited, it was a win / win relationship

( Oh, and here's a little trick, if you train groups or boot camps and serve both men BOTH women, throw some of your most attractive females into the video, as this can definitely boost conversions with SOME audiences… just don't overdo it or you can scare away some of the more out of shape women)

BAM, you're done. Just get it hosted somewhere like AS3 and get a good player like the JW Player and slap that code on your site… since I'm not good at the tech part of it I just give it to a web guy to slap it up for me ( always good to have a decent web guy on hand)

Traffic and Conversions

Now there's two main facets to marketing your fitness business on the internet… traffic and conversions

A good sales video can help double, triple, and even quadruple conversions.

But without any traffic, even the best converting site in the world is useless.

Right now, my favorite sources of traffic are…

Google Organic

Google Local

Google Pay Per Click

Craigslist ( As long as your pumping out the right kind of ads with consistency)

Bing

Yahoo

Facebook Ads

Of all the above, my favorite is still the free Google Organic - and in many areas this can get you new clients everyday if you come up high enough for enough of the right terms ( I explain how to do this in this post here - just click here to read it )

Now there are a few key elements to getting your web pages to the top of the search engines ( especially Google)… they are…

1. Having your keywords in the title tag of the page

2. Having your keywords "in" the page in a natural fashion

3. Having quality keyword links point to your page ( this is hands down the most important one)

Getting links is where most trainers drop the ball, they'll get their title tags and page content right, but they'll hardly get any good links pointing to their site… and the links are BY FAR the most important part of the equation.

You see, links are like votes for your site to rank high for a keyword term. The more quality sites that link to YOUR site with your keyword terms, the more votes Google sees that say "Hey, this site should be #1 for this keyword term"

But unfortunately most trainers simply don't know how to get the right kinds of links, and even if they know how to get em', they aren't willing to put in the time and effort to actually go out and do it…

And I'll be the first one to admit it, it can be long, frustrating and tedious work… not a lot of fun and not how trainers and training business owners should be spending their time.

But still, it needs to get done ( At least it does if you want to get a lot of clients from Google)

If you want, I actually have a team of writers and link builders who've helped me get to the top of Google for literally HUNDREDS of my keyword terms… and I'm willing to share them with you.

If you'd like to find out how to get my link builders to work for you… just click right here.

Work is important, but for me it needs to be part of my balanced life… I don't want to spend my day just putting in my 8 hours like somehow the majority of the world agreed to do.

I never liked spending my day at a typical day job… it seemed I was…

1. Just trading an hour for a dollar ( or eight dollars … or ten dollars… or… you get the point)

2. Working to make someone else rich

3. Living by someone else's values

I've always known a day job bothered me WAY more than most people… probably 100 times as much.

That's probably why I was a marijuana trafficker in my early twenties, which I was actually pretty good at, but I ended up getting busted and living in a cell for a while and realized a life of crime wasn't for me anymore…. I'll get my criminal fix living vicariously through Scorsese and older Tarantino movies these days… but that's about as close to a life of crime as I wanna get…. everyone usually dies in the end of those movies anyway.

After I got busted I ended up working a bunch of minimum wage type jobs… the only I enjoyed was being a bouncer throwing drunks outta bars… but there wasn't much future in it.

Since I was really into working out and was pretty damn ripped at the time… personal training seemed cool, cuz it was in line with my values and interests.

So I went and got a job at a big corporate gym and couldn't stand it… it felt like like I was a shady used car salesman trying to push training on the members.

Enter Business Number One

Soon I went off on my own, got certified and started my own training business… about that time I met Steve Hochman who turned me onto group training and human billboard marketing… thanks Steve! You're the man.

Within a very short time I was making six figures as a trainer. Along with human billboard marketing I figured out how to get clients from the internet… pretty soon I had WAY more clients than I could handle, even though I trained 6 people per hour with the group training, there's no way I could handle all the clients I was getting… especially from the internet… some days I'd have as many as six new clients in just day.

So I started hiring trainers to work for me… and I split the money with them 50/50… basically my websites pull in the traffic and get interested people to call in and inquire about training, I have appointment setters answer the calls and close the calls into appointments with the trainers, then the trainers sign the clients up, my corporation bills the clients and I pay the trainers 50% of the billed dues. Clients are put on EFT and usually on 6 month or 12 month agreements that continue on a month to month basis after the term of the agreement.

I ended up hiring 15 trainers in my area and was able to completely quit training myself.

These days that business generally takes less than an hour or two a MONTH of my time and generate a nice six-figure income for my family.

It's pretty much outsourced like this…

My link builders build links to my site to help with traffic and search engine rankings.

My websites pull in people from…

Google Organic

Google Local

Google Adwords

Yahoo

Bing

Facebook Ads

Craigslist

The appointment setters take the calls from the people who found my websites and schedule the appointments with the trainers.

The trainers train the clients.

And my wife Sarah and rock star assistant Del manage the business, and handle all the customer service, admin and billing. ( I can't tell you how great it is to have a full time kick butt personal assistant… not a virtual one, but one right there… mine works out of our home)

Today I pretty much just own the training business, and I consider it the perfect lifestyle business… or freedom business if you will.

With the right marketing and systems in place, the thing pretty much just runs on it's own… I set it up with all the feverish OCD my soul could muster, and it's been ticking like clockwork ever since.

(BTW - If you want to get a non-stop stream of training clients from the internet, I have a program where we walk you through it all step-by-step… just click here to check it out)

Enter Business Number Two

Now, my next business is my information marketing business… where I help fitness entrepreneurs make more money and work less hours… and there's a few facets to this one.

A lot of my friends teach health, fitness and fat loss with their info-product line… but I like to teach marketing, sales and business since it's something I'm so passionate about… I mean I LOVE to talk about this stuff.

Ok, so for my info biz…

1. First, I have a blog ( the site you're on right now) where I give away lot's of free content to the fitness industry on a regular basis. The blog is a critical part of my info business… as it's my main channel of communication between me and my subscriber list, and it's the beginning of my marketing funnel for a large number of my new customers… and the blog is out there working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, whether I'm sleeping, working out, watching a movie… doesn't matter, the blog is working for me.

2. I then have a line of information products that I promote on the blog and to my email subscriber list. From lower cost products to ones that are all the way up in the thousands

3. And then the top 1% of true dedicated fitness pro's often ascend up to one of my coaching programs, where I work with them personally via phone and email to help them reach their business goals.

4. And I also promote a "few" people's affiliate products… and usually when I do I'll make quite a few sales, and when I make sales I make nice commissions… affiliate marketing is probably one of my easiest income streams. I only promote products I truly believe in, and there's VERY few peoples who's products I'll promote… but when I do, the commissions are usually pretty nice and it doesn't take much more than an email to make em'… when I started promoting affiliate products I thought it would be a small chunk of extra change, well today it's an additional six-figures of income that requires little more than sending out a few emails.

So to sum up the info biz … it's pretty much structured like this…

People find my blog > Some purchase my products > The ones who are dedicated to making their business succeed ascend all the way up to my higher-end private coaching programs… and on top of that I do a few affiliate promotions here and there.

Now my info business is what I really LOVE doing… I don't know ANY info-marketer who doesn't truly love what they do… the money is great, and the hours are super flexible.

For example, I not only get to help a ton of people, but I have no set schedule and can work where and when I want.

AND… my entire info-business takes about 2-4 hours a day, and I work on it about 4 days a week, with the exception of a month or two a year where I'll put in some long hours like when getting ready for a launch or something… and then there's about 3 months out of the year I take completely off with the exception of answering about 30 minutes of coaching emails every few days.

And what's really cool is that … the entire business can be run from a lap top and a cell phone.

Info-marketing is BY FAR the coolest gig in the world, and a great way to either make millions OR just make a few extra thousand a month doing a few hours of work here and there on top of your training business … I have lots' of friends who also kill it with their own fitness and nutrition ebooks, videos and courses… and not one of em' would trade it for anything in the world.

( In fact if you're interested in making extra money every month working about an hour a day on top of your training business… then check out Craig Ballantynes Online Second Paycheck System for fitness trainers interested in passive income… it's not gonna show you how to get rich, but it WILL show you how to add an additional income for working VERY few hours.)

So that's pretty much I how I make money… and how do I spend my time?

Well, I usually spend a few hours a day doing one or more of the following…

Blogging

Creating Content

Writing Copy

Scripting Sales Videos

Working on Lead Gen Funnels

Improving Sales Systems

Creating and Nurturing Win/Win Relationships

Big Picture Strategy Stuff

Occasionally Inspecting Delegated Work

Learning ( Studying Info-Products)

Luckily, I love doing most of that stuff, and it's the true 5% of the most important things that need to be done in my businesses for it to be the kind of businesses I want em' to be… FREEDOM businesses

Besides doin' all that stuff I'm usually either hanging out with my wife and little girls, lifting weights, reading, riding my harley, going to church, hanging out with friends, watching movies, etc.

For me, money and business is all about freedom, I could care less about power and flash - and I want NOTHING to do with bling… I do it all for the freedom.

If I can help people, do what I love and at the same time have the money to work where and when I want, live where I want, spend the majority of my time doing what I want and not have to worry about money…. if I can see my kids grow up without spending the day at some job I hate… then I'm on the right path.

I have nothing against long hard hours at some job that's just a job, and have put in many long hard myself and still do from time to time, AND I think long hard work is a highly commendable way to make a living…

It's just not my way…

One thing I'd like to mention before ending this post, is that none of this would be possible without the incredible team of people I work with. I have systems and procedures in place, but having the right people to implement them makes all the difference in the world.

1. Spend your time doing only the 5% of tasks that are most important to getting you to where you want to go

2. When getting a tattoo, make sure you get one that closely resembles the signature tattoo of one of the highest ranking and most violent prison gangs in the country

Hey there, hope you're doing awesome… here's a list things I either learned from my good friend Bedros Keuilian… or through watching how he lived this stuff, it took my understanding to a deeper level…

Bedros is BY FAR one of the top marketers in the world, ESPECIALLY in the world of fitness

( BTW, I'd love to hear in the comment section below some of the things you've learned from Bedros… or some of the ways he's helped you build your fitness business )

1. Spend your time doing only the 5% of tasks that are most important to getting you to where you want to go

2. When getting a tattoo, make sure you get one that closely resembles the signature tattoo of one of the highest ranking and most violent prison gangs in the country

Prison gang tattoo…

Bedros's tattoos…

3. Hire a good personal assistant… they can make your life WAY easier

4. Surround yourself with high power people

5. Belong to and host high level masterminds

6. Have lower cost products and services that are "done-for-you" and continuity based, AND have extremely high end programs as well

7. Regularly take time off

8. When getting pulled over for speeding, it's probably not best to tell the cop "Listen dude, my taxes pay your salary and I make more in a week than you make all year… BTW, say hi to your sister for me"

Actually, Bedros never said that, I just thought it went well with this next pic - I HAVE been pulled over with him multiple times though… and he does like to give the cops sh*t … since I've done some time in the past, I'll admit, I'm pretty nice to cops and generally do what they ask (and it's amazing how many tickets I get out of) … Bedros well, let's just say he doesn't like to take sh*t from anyone, even if they're 6'4" 280lbs with a gun and a badge.

9. A good way to brain storm is to do it on a dry erase board and then take digital photos of it you can reference back to later ( I know this dry erase board only has him deadlifting only like 95lbs, but he's up to over 100lbs now… promise me you won't give him a hard time about it… he gets a complex about it)

10. He prefers to be called Beedros or Pedros over Bedros … just remember that for next time you see him

11. Use different email addy's… one you check on a regular basis for friends and super-important people, a less important one your assistant checks for you and one for coaching / consulting clients

13. Sometimes the best defense ( and time saver) is just to ignore things ( like an email, phone call, etc.)

14. A great way to make a lot of money, and to work with people who are the best of the best, is to get hundreds of people in a room, deliver GREAT content and an awesome show, and then offer them a high priced product or service that is so damn good only a fool wouldn't take it, done properly you can get 10-20% of the people to take you up on it.

15. Hardcore is living in your truck on a steady diet of diet soda and tuna fish protein shakes ( you mix the diet soda with the tuna and drink it)

16. Find the best, most honest and reliable computer guy you can find ( tech guy) and give him a percent of the business making him like a partner… this is more for internet marketers than fitness trainers

17. And not that I learned this one from Bedros, but he's a great reminder of it… Family Comes First

By now most trainers know that the real way to get ahead in the industry is to do either group training or boot camps... since there's just not a lot of money in one-on-one private personal training, unless of course 80 hour work weeks are something you're into.

Well, recently I've had a lot of questions from trainers about how they can transition their current clients from private to group training... here's a few tips...

1. Make your group training about 20%-25% less than your private training prices, so if you normally charge $60 for private sessions, charge an average of $45-$49 for your group workouts ( this is PER PERSON for groups of 4-6 people, for boot camps make your prices around 30%-50% of your private session prices)

2. Position group training as the "best" kind of training around, you can touch on points like how much more fun the workouts are, the camaraderie of the groups, how the energy lifts everyone up, the competitiveness which makes it hard to slack off, how they'll have more flexibility in their scheduling and how they'll be able to train with their friends if they want to.

By now most trainers know that the real way to get ahead in the industry is to do either group training or boot camps… since there's just not a lot of money in one-on-one private personal training, unless of course 80 hour work weeks are something you're into.

Well, recently I've had a lot of questions from trainers about how they can transition their current clients from private to group training… here's a few tips…

NEVER position it as budget training, even though it does save them money, position it as the best way to get into shape. ( You need to believe this as well, not just them)

3. Don't ASK your clients to do it, just tell them this is how you're going to be doing it now… remember, YOU are the authority here, and just like a doctor PRESCRIBES a solution, you too PRESCRIBE the solution… if you lose 5% of your client base, no biggie, you'll end up making WAY more in the long run WHILE working fewer hours.

( You can always outsource some of that 5% to another trainer if you want)

4. Whatever you need to do to make it happen, make your group workouts super fun, so people will enjoy them much more than your private sessions.

5. Remember, YOU need to believe in your group workouts, cuz if you don't they won't either… NEVER apologize for training groups, always be in the "vibe" of this is the best way to get into shape.

A Fitness Marketing Guest Post by Zach Hunt

I’ve never had very good luck with the law…..or authority for that matter. Not that I don’t respect it, just somehow I gravitate toward getting in trouble, without even trying…

When I was in grade school, I knew the principal on a “how you doing today” basis. Even getting suspended for 3 days for, get this, throwing a Frisbee at a younger kid and it hit him in the head. To this day I plead innocent, but the teachers had it out to get me I don’t know. I got multiple detention sessions and well was even known as a bully to some people....although I really never was a mean person =)

If you remember the blog post, just this last year I was accused as a ramped snow plow shooter in my city. I even went to jail, according to the news, good thing I didn’t know about it. I would have been frightened.

Well just this last month I had another run in with the law, but this time on a national scale...

You can see all about that incident here… and how it actually ended up being a good thing for my business.

Well just this last month I had another run in with the law, but this time on a national scale…

So I really enjoy internet marketing for my local fitness business. There’s no better feeling than knowing you’ll get a consistent stream of new quality leads without doing a thing. Those leads will convert into paying clients, and you’re business will continue to flourish without you putting forth an extra ounce of effort.

But here’s where the problem came up. Like the title of this article says, you can really kick your online presence into high gear with some of the strategies Chris and I share in the Market Annihilator, by taking advantage of other high profile big chain clubs marketing efforts. When someone searches for another club in your city, your website should come up, pure and simple.

Here’s where this gets interesting…

Apparently my website caught the attention of a national franchise attorney’s office or something, wish I still had a copy of the letter, and they sent me an official letter saying something to the effect of my website was hurting their rankings on the local level and asked me to take it down. Anyway this was quite amusing and flattering I guess, cause I wasn’t posing as that other company, I wasn’t even mentioning their name in my website or articles. I just used some solid SEO tactics like we show in the Market Annihilator.

There was even another case where a local club called my 800 number to complain because my website was ranking for their exact keyword (their company name) “above their website” and their clients were calling me to setup appointments. The company name was a fairly generic fitness term, so there’s nothing I could really do about it.

Here’s where this can benefit you…

Other companies spend a lot of money to generate marketing awareness in the public. Big chain clubs advertise on TV, radio, and whatever else to try and pull people in as brand advertising. A large portion of the people that see these ads may respond, but just not toward the actual company being advertised. They may go online and search local fitness clubs or get fit your city or even if they do search “big chain clubs your city”, you can have your website pop up.

That way you can take advantage or their marketing efforts and pull in their traffic, so to say.

This is a fairly advanced tactic and can be very powerful. You can’t imagine how many people say they were searching for “this club” or “that club” and stumbled upon your website. Now they’re in the door and are a client. It happens all the time, pretty much on a weekly basis. Now I think that’s worth putting some effort into.

Click here to see a recent post where Chris shows you how to get a page to rank high

It’s a strategy Chris and I use both very well and certainly recommend you do the same.

Some people would go crazy if that's all they had to work, but for me... it's perfect... it allows me to live as close to a balanced life as possible.

Basically both of my businesses are almost entirely automated and outsourced... my businesses are run on systems I created... I build the systems, and the systems do the work.

I'm one of the people who read Tim Ferriss's "Four Hour Work Week" a few years back and it just felt like truth to me... so I applied it with everything I had.

Somewhere in the book is a sentence that goes something like "The world has agreed to shuffle papers from 9 to 5" ... and that resonated with me... I've always felt in the pit of my soul there had to be a better way.

Do I only work four hours a week?

No... I work more than that

In fact, sometimes I'll work 60, 70, or 80 hours in a week, like when I launched Market Annihilator... but that was only for a few weeks.

Typically my year pretty much looks like this...

For about 3 months of the year I don't work at all... I take vacations ( with the exception of helping my coaching clients via email and phone calls... I pretty much answer coaching emails throughout the year )

For about 7-8 months out the year, I'll work about 2-4 hours a day and work about 4-5 days a week

And for about a month or two out of the year, I'll put in 60-80 hour weeks working 6 days a week... like when getting ready for a big launch or something... which I'll usually do by putting myself under firm deadlines... I'll bust my butt to create a systematized money funnel that I can then put on autopilot

Luckily I love what I do, so most of it doesn't even seem like work anyway

When I work I focus on the important stuff... like...

And for about a month or two out of the year, I'll put in 60-80 hour weeks working 6 days a week… like when getting ready for a big launch or something… which I'll usually do by putting myself under firm deadlines… I'll bust my butt to create a systematized money funnel that I can then put on autopilot

Luckily I love what I do, so most of it doesn't even seem like work anyway

When I work I focus on the important stuff… like…

Blogging

Creating Content

The rest of my business is systematized and outsourced… from billing to training to management to admin to… you name it… it's outsourced ( and in-sourced )

If it doesn't absolutely need to be done by me, its done by someone else, usually someone who's much better at in anyway ( I've learned I'm only really good at a few things.. so I focus on those)

A lot of people think Tim Ferriss's book the "Four Hour Work Week" is a scam, but that's because they never really aplied it with any type of consistency.

I'm here to tell you that it works… if you apply yourself to the principles outlined in the book you can end up making a lot more while working a lot less… but you have to do more than just read the book, you have to apply it.

You probably won't only work four hours a week ( which isn't what the book is about anyway)… but you can create a business based around your ideal lifestyle and work smart instead of hard… you can own a freedom business ( or two ) that allows you to work where and when you want, with minimal hours for maximum pay.

If you love training, by all means train your heart out, but just know there are ways to dramatically cut your hours while at the same time increasing your income… like getting into semi-private and group training and boot camps… where you can literally make six-figures working only 15-20 hours a week or LESS ( that's exactly how I did it when I trained)

Tim just released a new updated version of the book with like 100 extra pages… I HIGHLY recommend it… here's a few great quotes from the book…

"For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and ask myself: “if today was the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something… Almost everything–all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure–these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. I'm listening to one of my favorite artists right now ( Elliot Smith... R.I.P.)... and I'm slowly getting back into the swing of work after taking about 8 weeks off... been focusing a lot on my family, lifting weights and my spiritual path...

I'm striving to keep things in balance... as I can tend to get a little OCD sometimes and do things with an all or nothing attitude, which is usually great for the one thing I'm focused on, but the others can get out of balance QUICK.

Anyhow, like I said, I'm back to work ( kinda... at least for a few hours a day )... and fortunately during my break our income didn't go down at all... because my businesses are both 95 plus percent on auto-pilot.

Before vacation, I loaded up about 18 blog posts and 20 something email blasts and scheduled them to go out every other day or so, which was nice... took me a few days to set up, but it sure was worth it, cuz the blog got traffic and the products sold the entire time I was away.

And as for the training business, my assistant Del pumped out online classified ads every day, closed sales and Google brought lots of new leads to my training site every single day... so the new clients poured in... that's one of the reasons I love Google

I mean I Friggin LOVE EM'

In fact, Google is one of my BIGGEST streams of new clients…

And as for the training business, my assistant Del pumped out online classified ads every day, closed sales and Google brought lots of new leads to my training site every single day… so the new clients poured in… that's one of the reasons I love Google

I mean I Friggin LOVE EM'

In fact, Google is one of my BIGGEST streams of new clients…

It's BY FAR one of the big spokes on my wheel ( remember, it's important to have many spokes, so if one breaks, you don't eat it and fall flat on our face… NEVER rely just on one or two spokes… have as many good ones as possible.

In this post I'm gonna share with you a few of my techniques for getting to the top of the free Google Organic listings… and these techniques WORK… my sites come up in positions 1 and 2 for literally hundreds of my keyword terms… often times dominating most of the first page for my keyword terms

One of the keys to getting clients from Google is that you want to be at the top for TONS of keyword terms… not just one or two… you want to be at the top for TONS

Here's what works for me… I simply combine my location ( city, county) with my service type (and similar services)

By "service type" I mean the type of service that you offer ( like "boot camp" or "personal training")

Here's some of the service type names you'll probably wanna come up for… STARTING with your most important and targeted ones first and then working your way down the list…

boot camp, boot camps, bootcamp, bootcamps

personal trainer, personal training, personal trainers

fitness trainer, fitness training, fitness trainers

weight loss, weight loss center, weight loss clinic, weight loss program

health club, health clubs

gym, gyms

fitness center, fitness studio

workout

exercise

Next, you'll wanna multiply the locations you serve by the service phrases.

So say for example you serve Dallas Texas and you offered personal training, boot camps and a fitness studio, you would want to come up high for…

Dallas boot camp, boot camps, bootcamp, bootcamps

Dallas personal trainer, personal training, personal trainers

Dallas fitness trainer, fitness training, fitness trainers

Dallas weight loss, weight loss center, weight loss clinic, weight loss program

Dallas health club, health clubs

Dallas gym, gyms

Dallas fitness center

Dallas workout

Dallas exercise

(Also, be sure to include the appropriate zip codes to the appropriate pages)

Now, these can't all be on the same page… you need to have a whole bunch of different pages on your site for all these different terms... one for each of your main kw phrase combination's… for example, one for all the combination's of 'Dallas personal trainer, personal training, personal trainers' and so on

Let's say for example you serve Dallas and five towns around Dallas, you'd want a minimum of 45 optimized pages - now I have no idea if there even are five towns near Dallas, I just dig the movie so I'm using it as an example.

I would have these optimized pages written by someone else because while this works needs to be done, you'll definitely want to get someone else to do it unless you like spending hours and hours every week writing and posting articles.

I like to use a three tier site structure…

Home Page > Which links to a site map OR category page > Which links to your optimized pages

Now, on these optimized pages make sure…

You have your main 1-3 keyword phrase variations for the page in the title tag of the page and keep it to 64 characters or less

They're sales pages and are micro optimized versions of your core sales message ( You can add a video to these pages to do most of the selling for you)

Have your main kw's for that phrase in the body copy of the page making up around 3-6% of the text on the page ( give or take)

Slip your main keyword phrase into the headline

Point links from some of your other pages to that page with your keywords as the anchor text

Add your keyword links to a site map or category pages on your site and link to that site map from your home page footer

Next, be sure to get as many links as possible pointing to all your deep optimized pages ( NOT just your home page) and make sure that a lot of these links have variations of your main keyword terms as the anchor text… but don't use your keywords in ALL the links cuz that's not natural… and 'not natural' is 'not good' in Googles eye's.

If you're main keyword term was 'Dallas Personal Trainer' here's how I would have my links…

Dallas Personal Trainer - 40%

Dallas Personal Training - 10%

Dallas Personal Trainers - 10%

Personal Trainers in Dallas - 10%

Personal Training in Dallas - 10%

Personal Trainer Dallas - 10%

Now that's not an exact science, but the key here is to use variations of your keyword phrases in the page and in the links… and some of the links should include words that aren't in your title tag.. like "click here"

Now, here's some of the best ways to get links… ( not all links are created equal… the first and the last on the list are my favorites)

Put out high quality content that people will WANT to link to ( link bait) - these are Googles favorite kinds of links, but unfortunately for a local fitness business they're usually the hardest to get

Get listed in the best of the paid directories ( like the Yahoo Directory, BOTW, JoeAnt and Gimpsy)

Add high quality content to Squidoo and HubPages ( avoid your links being "no followed" in HubPages by making your content as high quality as possible, linking to it, and getting a nice amount of fans) - link to your site from within the body of this content

Add articles to the best of the article directories like EzineArticles and Isnare … and then add your links to the author resource section at the bottom

And my favorite… offer high quality guest posts to popular fitness blogs ( these links can be extremely powerful… but you're content better be good) These blog links can be time consuming to get, but if they're from popular fitness blogs, they can carry a TON of weight in Google… this can also work for authority sites like T-Nation… so it doesn't have to be just blogs.

So there ya have it, some of the ways I get my sites to the top of Google for hundreds of keyword terms… the key is to a lot of this stuff, don't just get a couple links or put up a couple pages and give up.

I also highly recommend outsourcing as much of this as possible, that's what I do… and the investment will typically pay itself back off 10 to 100 fold in new clients.

If you'd like to get someone to help you build links, I just put out a new link building service that you can learn about by clicking here …. we'll do ALL the work for you…
