Blinking standby light on my Sony Trinitron KV-36HS500

Hopefully I’ll be able to save someone some repair money on their Sony Trinitron TV someday. A couple days ago the standby light started blinking when I would try to turn on my TV. There would be no sound or video, just a blinking standby light. This has actually happened several times now.

The first time I took the TV into a repair shop only to be told the next day that it worked just fine. I came and picked it up and it was fine.

A year later (now) the same thing happened. After some investigation I found that the number of blinks given by the light should provide some information. Mine was blinking 7 times which was probably indicating some power issue. I left the TV unplugged for 24 hours and then plugged it back in – on a surge protector this time. It has been working just fine since then.

Good luck if you’ve got one of these Sony Trinitrons. My model was the KV-36HS500, but the description I found online was for a slightly different model number.

My TV is fucked. I hate this TV – it is too damm heavy to move for even two people. And now it doesn’t work.

This happened once before, so I got some help and took it to Nodak repair. Called a a day later and the guy said it works just fine – come and get it out of here. Got it home and it did work just fine. No problem!

So now it is doing it again. From my online investigations I have come across this:

SEVEN Blinks—High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

Well I don’t have a freaking clue how to do that so I think I’ll see if a couple good whacks with rubber mallet helps. That should take good care of it.

pulling grass out of my ass

I guess this story could go a few different ways based just on the title. Does it involve my drug dealer, my asshole, or a poem I wrote?

As it works out I was actually pulling grass out of my ass. That is grass as in the single bladed green plant that grows in most yards around here, and my ass.

I guess that just means it was a wild soccer game tonight. A little wet and a little intense. At least one slide tackle I put on brought some wet grass all the way up my shorts.

It was quite a game. We came back from 2 down in the last 20 minutes to win!

I’ve got this shower in the basement you see. This shower – it has a door and some windows, and a ceiling above it. On that ceiling is a fan, and in that fan there is a lot of dust.

Well the fan is there to dry out the damm shower so it doesn’t get moldy. I would often not leave the fan on because I’d forget to turn it off later, or I’d turn it on and let it go all night. So I took matter into my own hands. I went and bought on of these fancy light switch timers knob thing-a-ma-jigs.

With my totally focused 2 year old helper we got that sucker successfully installed tonight! We might have to redefine what success means though. If it mean that you blow out a night light and cut electricity to half of your house a few minutes later, then it was a wild success! Does success require that slightly uneasy feeling of “holy crap what if a fire starts in my bathroom tonight” or is that just the normal feeling from a job well done?

So you can ask me how if you ever need to hook one of these up, I’ve done one of them now so I’m pretty much a pro. This is how it goes: Unhook old switch, connect two wires with a little masking tape (or whatever you happen to have near by), jam that new switch back in the hole (if it fits). If it doesn’t fit, just get a knife and a hammer and go to work until it will fit!

Am I becoming a Vikings fan?

As most of you probably know, I’m not the biggest fan of American football. The Kansas City Chiefs are my favorite team. It is a tough time to be a Chiefs fan. The Arizona Cardinals have always been my NFC team – which has always been rough – until last year. But tonight I was kind of excited to see the Viking and Packers play on Monday Night Football. I’ve never really cheered much for the Vikings, but tonight for some reason I was just getting into it.

I really like Jared Allen, but that little thing he does after a sack is kinda weird. I guess he is good enough and tough enough to do whatever the hell he wants though. He could get up and do a little tap dancing I suppose. At least it isn’t as long as Tito Ortiz’s gravedigger celebration. That is like a whole one man play he puts on after a victory.

Uh oh, the Packers are gonna come back and make it a game now. I guess I gotta go cheer for my new 3rd favorite American football team.

Some things my bike can’t do

I learned another thing my bicycle doesn’t do tonight. It won’t break through chain at 10 mph.

Riding the LeSchwartz around downtown Fargo tonight I went through a parking lot that I knew had chains separating isles of parking spots. I went through a couple of aisles that didn’t have chins up so I just kept cruising at a good pace. Then I first heard the chain and knew I was fucked.

Surprising my bike didn’t rip through the chain. Instead it sent me over the handlebars flying towards the parking lot head first. I got up and rode out of there pretty quick partly because I didn’t want to know if I was hurt badly, partly because it would have been embarrassing if people had seen this take place.

As far as I could tell the only damage to the bike was the front brake cable was ripped off and I lost my tail light. I had bloody knee and fingers – but my lower right back, right elbow and left knee are hurting pretty nicely now. A couple beers and some ibuprofen will hopefully help out a little bit.

The worst part about it is that when I went into that parking lot I actually thought to myself – that would suck to run into a chain in the dark. And then 7 seconds later I did. Dammit.

What is my secret message?

1st meal of champions!

Yesterday (Thursday) was an interesting day. I had been feeling kinda crappy since Tuesday evening but it wasn’t too bad. I still managed to play soccer on Wednesday night – but I only got in about 30 minutes. Typically I get very close to 90 if not a full 90.

So yesterday I was feeling really crappy at work, but I managed to stay there a full 8 hours. Then last night I started getting a rash on my forearms.

What the hell is that all about? I starting to think it was an allergic reaction to something. I started to get similar rash on Tuesday evening when I started feeling crappy. It didn’t get this bad on Tuesday though. All the food I ate on Thursday was oatmeal, chicken noodle soup, onion and mustard sandwich, and some left over chicken-mushroom soup-noodles (CMSNs) that Luke didn’t finish. I also had some of the CMSNs on Tuesday night right before I first felt ill. That was right before a 6 mile bike ride in the rain.

So anyway – today I’ve stayed home from work. I feel a lot better now than I did earlier this morning, but still not real good. I went to the grocery store to pick up some mucus thinning foods. Based on what I’ve read online stuff like horseradish, onions, spicy hot stuff, pineapple and grapefruit are good for thinning mucus. If that shit thins out the pressure in my head goes down and I feel better. So today I had a summer-sausage with extra hot horseradish and wasabi sauce sandwich along with chips and super charged salsa that had a good amount of tabasco sauce in it. It is my new 1st meal of champions!
