There is no doubt that the United States of America needs a spiritual revival. Though it was founded on spiritual beliefs and practices, most of those are getting removed from places of leadership, decisions, and instruction. This affects all of us in various ways, however, it will affect our kids and teenagers in the years to come even more.

The Lord gave us instruction to pray for those in leadership: “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT)

They face isolation, loneliness, financial struggles, communication issues, and difficulties in establishing and running churches on foreign soil. Their kids are all a part of this. The word “petition” is defined as “an earnest or humble request or appeal.” It is sometimes used with respect to a document that identifies a specific need. These documents often get signed by numerous people and then get presented to a leader. The leader is asked to listen to the need or cause that the people agree about, and act on it accordingly.

In times of prayer we petition God for things we need or desire. Petitions are for yourself, whereas intercessions are for others.

Although petitions that we present to our leaders often have signatures, the petitions we bring before God do not. We just ask Him for what we need or want. We believe that He can meet the need, and we specify in detail what we desire. It doesn’t take…

P52 Week 13: Repentance and Forgiveness

We all have sinned; whether we are rich, poor, strong, weak, or any other characteristic that can be thought of. Though our paths in life may take us in different directions, we are all equal at the foot of the cross; we all need forgiveness.

To repent means to change your mind about something, or turn in the other direction. When we repent of our sins, we confess that we are wrong, and we commit to change those things, and do instead, what is right.

God will “convict” us of things that are not pleasing to Him. Convict, means He makes us feel uncomfortable about the things that displease HIm. Our hearts feel remorse (saddness) and we realize and admit that we are guilty for doing what was wrong.

When we repent to God, God forgives us. However, God expects us to change…

P52 Week 12: Praying for the Lost

“Believers everywhere are burdened for unsaved or backsliding loved ones. However, many are praying in the spirt of fear and worry instead of in faith.”

We all have someone in our life we know that is considered “lost.” Our hearts go out to them, wishing they would give their life to God and be filled with His Spirit. If we aren’t mindful of it, our concern can turn into fear and worry which will bleed into prayers for them. When that happens, our faith is impacted.

There’s nothing wrong with being concerned for the lost; we should be. However, if we focus only on the negative side – hell, judgment, and the person’s stubbornness to change – then we are focusing on darkness, rather than light…

P52 Week 11: Hearing the Voice of God

“We often doubt if we are hearing from God until we learn to recognize the ways God speaks to us.”

What has God been saying to you lately? Have you recognized His action in your life personally? Have you heard His voice?

John 10:27 says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Notice that this doesn’t say that the sheep might hear His voice, but rather, the sheep hear His voice. Studying these scriptures lets us know that God talks to us, so we should expect to hear from Him.

When we pray we should have time where we get quiet and just listen. Prayer is a two-way communication, and it’s where we often get direction from God. In addition, God may give you an answer about something you have prayed about, or direct you how to pray for someone else.

The way we communicate and understand life today has its foundation back when we were small children. As a child, we learned to speak words and understand their meaning one word at a time. We mimicked our mom and dad, sometimes saying words that we didn’t even fully understand. The more we said the words and seen the result of saying them, the more we came to understand their meaning.

The Word of God is similar to this example. The more we speak God’s Word, the more we understand it by the results it brings. The best way to communicate with God is by saying things His way – using His own Word.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s time to worship”? Perhaps you’ve spoke the phrase yourself as you’ve gathered your kids for their weekly children’s or youth ministry service. Maybe you’ve heard it at the start of your regular church service. The music started playing, the praise team started singing, and a few hands might have rose in the air. If you were in a children’s service some action movements might have worn out the extra energy brought in by the youngsters.

People’s lives are changed when an atmosphere of true worship is created for God to work in. However, worship isn’t confined, nor defined, by music; it’s defined by the heart…
