Kennywood '09

Evelyn visited Kennywood Park this weekend. She expanded her portfolio of rides this year and now counts the Whippersnapper among her favorites.

Evy also had fun driving everyone around. She told us that it was her turn to drive since she is always the rider in our car. Thank goodness for the guide beam in the middle of the ride's path...

The lines were short and the weather was much better than predicted. Everyone had a great time.

A Sparkling Smile

Evelyn enjoyed her first visit to the dentist today. That's right, she enjoyed it. She chatted up the front office ladies before making her way back to the room with the purple chair.

Evy hopped right up and had a conversation with the hygienist. After putting on the special sunglasses, her teeth were counted (20) and cleaned with the tickling toothbrush (using cherry paste). They sparkled...

The dentist came in for a final check and he said that everything looked great. Then Evy was sent on her way with a bag full of goodies which included a little tube of toothpaste, a new toothbrush, four stickers and a parachute toy. It's no wonder she enjoyed her visit.

Beach Week

Evelyn had a great time at the beach last week. She spent a lot of her time covered in sunscreen while she ran away from the waves or dug holes in the sand.

We even got out to the links for a round of golf.

All of this fun (plus an ice cream cone with sprinkles at the Boardwalk) can make a three-year-old tired. Very tired...

Another Purple Day

Evelyn declared today to be another purple day. So when we went to Rita's for their Saturday night car cruise, it was pretty obvious which car would be her favorite.

City Of Champions!

Pittsburgh is having quite a year. The Steelers won the Super Bowl in February and last night the Penguins won the Stanley Cup!

Evelyn was their good luck charm, making sure to watch the beginning of each game during their playoff run.

So does this mean that in October the Pirates will win the World Series? Well, two out of three isn't bad...

Porch Picnics

One of Evelyn's favorite warm weather activities is the "porch picnic." It's exactly what you think it is. We sit on the porch and eat at Evy's picnic table. The menu tonight included corn on the cob.

And sometimes we end with an ice cream cone.

Spring Cleaning

The weather has finally started to warm up enough to go outside (between thunderstorms). For the past few weeks Evelyn has enjoyed playing in her sandbox, blowing bubbles and several trips to the playground. And cleaning the patio furniture.

It didn't really matter what she was cleaning. Evy was more interested in the bucket of soapy water and the hose.

She had fun and now we have clean chairs. Everyone wins!

A Long Weekend

Evelyn took advantage of the long holiday weekend and visited some family and friends in Mechanicsburg. She had lots of fun playing in the park, going out for ice cream and having a Memorial Day picnic.

Meanwhile, back at home, I was busy prepping, priming and painting Evy's new room a lovely shade of light purple ("Spring Parade" to be exact). I'm not sure who had more fun.

Evelyn knows just what it takes to make Steph happy. Nothing says "I love you" quite like a pretty flower and 105 individually wrapped Twizzlers.

Fingerpainting

Evy took advantage of the warm weather and set up a fingerpainting studio on the back porch. She was able to keep most of the paint on the paper.

She painted a few colorful pictures and then posed with one of her favorites.

Then she went inside for a bath. I wonder if Jackson Pollock's mom made him go straight to the tub after creating one of his masterpieces.

Easter, Continued

Evelyn had another full weekend of Easter fun. She hunted for Easter eggs, helped break open a piñata, and saw all seven of her cousins in seven hours.

Evy was also able to hold baby Jefferson for the first time. We managed to get a smile out of both of them.

Easter 2009

We spent yesterday getting ready for Easter. You know - coloring newspapers, hands and even Easter eggs.

Then this morning, after some bunny shaped pancakes, Evy started her search for the hidden plastic eggs and her Easter basket. The background of this picture may give some clues to their super-secret whereabouts...

Scientific Sunday

We visited the Carnegie Science Center and Evelyn had a blast.

She played with everything from the water tables to the shadow maker to the cloud cauldron, and she even explored the inside of a real submarine.

Birthday Times Three

Evelyn celebrated her third birthday with a three part, week-and-a-half long extravaganza. It started with a weekend trip to Central Pennsylvania to share some fun with her cousin Donovan (their birthdays are five days apart).

Her actual birthday was packed with excitement. She rode the carousel at the mall, went out to lunch, explored the toy store, and ate dinner at a restaurant where she got three balloons and a special sundae after her meal.

Tonight finished the third stage of Evy's third birthday celebration. Pizza, cake, and ice cream were followed by staying up late to play with her new toys.

All this celebrating made for one very tired three year old. An extravaganza will do that to you.

Spring Training

When Evy got dressed this morning she pulled her socks and cuffs all the way up to her knees. She looked a little like a shortstop, so we got out her hat and glove and did some soft toss in the living room.

It was appropriate, since the Pirates have their first spring training game tomorrow. Evelyn spent most of the time working on her pitching. She actually hit the camera with this fastball...

Strike one.

She may be ready to be taken out to the ballgame, but we'll have to hold the peanuts and Cracker Jack. Evy had an allergic reaction to peanut butter about two hours after her spring baseball workout and ended up at the doctor's office.

She feels fine now, but she has to have some blood tests done.

Evelyn decorated cookies to celebrate Valentine's Day. She spread pink icing and sprinkles all over the heart-shaped cookies (and the plate and the table).

Super Bowl Champions!

The Steelers just won Super Bowl XLIII! Evelyn had to rush right out and buy some championship attire...

It may be number six for the franchise, but it's only number one for Evy. Hopefully she'll get to see many more (and be able to watch past halftime).
