2012 Counselor Retreat – “TRANSFORMED”

Forty students and adults attended the annual Counselor Retreat held at Awanita Valley Christian Retreat Center in Marietta, SC the last weekend of March.

Thomas and Darlene Cotton attended as the guest speakers and spoke to students about transformation. Thomas and Darlene founded Redemption & Advancement Alliance that provides life changing support in the form of training, mentoring, spiritual guidance and housing to ex-offenders and people in at-risk communities. With a passion for sharing his own personal story of transformation, Thomas encouraged our students and shared with them the transforming love of Christ! Students enjoyed the zipline (into freezing water), a thrilling Hummer ride to the top of the mountain, and just spending quality time with one another. Here are some pictures from the event:

Important Counselor Application Announcement!

Thank you for your interest in applying for a counselor position at Camp Hope 2012! The Counselor Applications will be available on our website in two weeks. In the meantime, we want to make you aware of some important changes we have made to our application process. Over the past several summers, Camp Hope has grown such that now we have more applicants than there are counselor spots available. To manage this and to help alleviate waiting lists from developing, we will review all counselor applications after the deadline, before making final selections rather than accept applications on a first-come, first-serve basis. By so doing, we ensure that everyone has the same opportunity to be considered, as long as applications are in on time. New this year will be an interview process. This will be take place after we receive all possible applications. Keep in mind that during the application process, interviews, references and prior Camp Hope experience and feedback will all be considered.

After much prayer and consideration, we feel that this new process will provide all applicants an equal opportunity to serve at Camp Hope and more importantly, provide a quality experience for our campers. Please feel free to give us a call or send us an e-mail if you have any questions about the change in process. We look forward to receiving your applications once they are available online in two weeks!

Important Information for all Counselor Applicants for Camp Hope 2012

To be considered for a counselor position at Camp Hope 2012, please complete the Counselor Application packet. All pages of the application must be completed and the application must be notarized for an application to be considered complete. Incomplete applications that are submitted will be returned and not be accepted until they are returned with everything completed.
The application deadline is April 26, 2012 for ALL counselors. Submission of an application does not guarantee placement at Camp Hope 2012. Counselor positions are limited, so in order to be considered, your application MUST BE TURNED IN BY THE DEADLINE of April 26, 2012.
You will be notified by May 31, 2012 if you have been selected to serve at Camp Hope. In the interim, references will be checked and interviews conducted. Counselor Fees will be due once accepted to attend Camp Hope.
New counselors and cabin leaders will be asked to sign-up for an interview at the Camp Hope office. Interview dates will be announced soon.
If you are selected to be a counselor, you will be required to attend a training workshop before Camp Hope.
Please note: A notary is available at the office. However, in order for us to legally notarize your application, your parent/guardian (whoever signed your application) must be present. Please come with proper ID. Thank you!

Register for kidz2leaders’ 8th Annual Camp Hope Golf Tournament on Monday, May 7 at the Atlanta Country Club in Marietta, GA. Changed for a New Year

When the people of the land come before the LORD at the appointed feasts, whoever enters by the north gate to worship is to go out the south gate; and whoever enters by the south gate is to go out the north gate. No one is to return through the gate by which he entered, but each is to go out the opposite gate.” Ezekiel 46:9 (NIV 1984)

I read this verse in my devotion yesterday morning and the writer’s words echoed the same thoughts I have for the ministry as we start a new year:

“When we come into God’s presence, He fills us. The Lord changes us so that we are not the same as we were when we came to Him. Ezekiel 46:9 represents this exchange of old for new. The people of Israel were told when they came into the temple area to worship, they were to enter through one gate and exit through the opposite gate.”

kidz2leaders saw amazing blessings in 2011 that changed the course of our ministry and the lives of our campers. Nine of our campers graduated from high school and most of our graduates are enrolled in a form of higher education or are employed. 112 campers attended Camp Hope – 21 were first time campers. Twenty-six former campers attended Camp Hope to serve as counselors, cabin leaders or as summer staff.

Just as our campers’ lives have been changed by experiencing the love of Christ , so has our ministry. We celebrate the successes of 2011 and enter 2012 changed by the year’s events and marked by God’s love. Thank you to our campers, counselors, donors, volunteers, prayer warriors and friends who helped change kidz2leaders for the better. We invite you to join us as we embark on a new year!

Miss America 2012 discusses Prisoners’ Children

The newly crowned Miss America 2012 discussed her personal experience of having her father in incarcerated while in high school. She used the pageant as a platform to speak to the almost 2 million children who also have a parent in prison.

Congrats New Interns!

The interns4tomorrow program is proud to welcome six new students to the interns4tomorrow program: Brnesha, Courtney, LaRon, Leah, Taylor and Tori. These exceptional students completed an application, references and three interviews before their acceptance to the program.

The new interns will join the current class of interns at the program’s first monthly meeting on Monday, January 16!

You are invited to attend the annual hope4christmas party on Saturday, December 17 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The party will be held in the Fellowship Hall at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church.

We’ll enjoy cookies, hot chocolate and cider, sing carols, give presents and have lots of fun celebrating Christmas with our Camp Hope campers!

COUNSELORS: If you had a camper, please bring a general gift for a camper. You only need to purchase a gift if you had a camper. Please don’t spend more than $25.

Girl counselors bring a gift for a girl camper and boy counselors bring a gift for a boy camper.
Purchase a gift that is age-appropriate for the Cornerstone (3rd-5th grade) or Leadership camper (6th-8th grade) you had.

kidz2leaders, inc. (k2l) is participating in The Cobb Galleria’s 2nd Annual Festival of Trees! There will be a k2l Christmas tree on display at the Embassy Suites Hotel Atlanta-Galleria hotel lobby from November 21, 2011 through January 5, 2012.

J.E. Dunn Fun Run raises $10,000!

The first annual J.E. Dunn Hammer Down 5K and 1K Fun Run raised $10,000 for kidz2leaders and Camp Hope and expects to have more to donate from the October 15 event.

kidz2leaders, inc. would like to welcome Kathy Householder as the new interns4tomorrow Program Director.

Kathy spent time with Coca-Cola and YMCA before starting her own business, On the Move and More. Kathy’s wealth of organizational and management skills will be of a great value the interns4tomorrow program, and her personality and compassion already is a great addition to the kidz2leaders team. Welcome again Kathy!
