Menara Tinjau Hulu Langat is the place to be for a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. You will be fascinated by the panoramic view especially at night, breathtaking and complimented with the cozy breeze ideal for romantic or special occasions.

This is not my first visit to the place but it has been a while. First thing you have bear in mind being there is parking. A handful to overcome if you arrive at the wrong time! Words of advice:

Drive compact car, space tends to be limited at times. Forget about convoying, car pool and squeeze like sardine cans! You have better chance riding motorcycle.
There will never be a best time to go, especially at night and weekends. Come at your own risk and good luck!

Next is making the trip. Google Search "Menara Tinjau Hulu Langat" and read more about the place from other bloggers. Most of them have done a good job documenting their own experiences including pictures, address and maps. In a way, support their works!

On the other hand, once you are there you will forget what you have to anticipate. It is a nice place to clear off your mind and let it wonder about. Besides there are three choice of restaurants up there you can choose. Order your favorite drink, a meal or snack and enjoy stimulating conversations overlooking the beautiful sceneries.

Madkast Share Button Widget

I have just added the Madkast Share widget to my blog. It's the green color button just below the blog post title. It is similar to the Share This button you can find in Wordpress templates.

It is certainly a nifty widget to have for us using Blogger. It offers one-click installation that is quick and simple. It will add-on a page element with the javascript and you can relocated it anywhere in your template. This widget certainly create an ease of function to share our posts by e-mail, text message or bookmarking services.

Recommend it to all and you can add this feature by clicking the share button in this blog or go to Madkast.

MyBlogLog Now Is Part Of Yahoo!

I had login to MyBlogLog to adjust my widget settings and discovered that it has now been acquired by Yahoo! as part of it's services. Before I am able to proceed to the home page, I had to process merging to my yahoo! profiles and reselect my avatar which was linked to my yahoo! avatars. The rest remains the same upon completion.

It's called Bubblesnaps! It's allows you to create pop-up dialogs on your own photos and have it send to your friends by email or add it to your website. Creating a bubblesnap is easy. You can create instantly on the website. It's free to register and you will be able to add up to 18 photos or edit features.

First step of using this free service is to upload your photos from your computer or select one of your public photos from flickr. When choosing flickr you just need to enter your username to display your photos and select.

Second step is to add the bubble dialog. You can choose between speak or think and edit your own text. You also have the choice to move, resize and where you like the bubble placed.

Last step by clicking the Finish button, you will be able to review the bubblesnap you have created. In the review screen, you have an option to:

Print or edit.
Add a title to the Bubblesnap.
4 theme to choose for special occasions (no theme, birthday, luurve, the morning after)
Send by email with accompanying messages (optional)

How I Add Text or Image Watermarks To Photos

I needed to add text and image onto batch of photos that I am uploading. Usually I will edit it manually using photoshop but for more than 5 pictures, there should be a better way.

I am sharing my way to add transparent text or image watermarks to photos using FastStone Image Viewer. With this software, you can convert batch or selective images with advance options to resize, crop, rotate and more including the watermarks features.

First thing to do is : Download here: FastStone Image Viewer - Free!

After installation, in the image viewer screen:

select Tools > Batch Convert

In advance options screen - Select Watermark

Here you can add your watermark image. In addition you can:

Select position to locate the watermark on the photo
Add shadow, background, round corners or transparency
Go to > Text Column to add text captions
Go to > Resize Column to auto resize the photo

Click OK to finalize your watermark features. Select the output format and the output folder. Click on Start to activate the conversion. Here is how you post-photo will look like:

To have this feature will add copyright to your photos that you are uploading to your image hosting website or blogs. You will never know what will happen to your photos as it is open to be copied everywhere and anytime in this blogosphere. There more features available in the FastStone Image Viewer and recommend to all to try it out.

Discovering Non Human Behaviours

Ok, the title may not appear to be as what you like it to be. If you are expecting some Extra Terrestrial post well then it's too bad. It's about my recent trip to the National Zoo. Yeah I know it's not a popular discovery topic but what the heck. I guess it was a calling after hearing about the visit Malaysia advertisement aired over the radios all the time.

So here I am making my confession. I’ve lived in Kuala Lumpur all my life and it’s a shame I have not been to most of the places even not knowing how to get there. Now I pledge to take the time to make these trips if not to all at least to most locations. It maybe a bit touristy but it will be part of my lifetime resolution. First Kuala Lumpur, next Malaysia then The Rest of the World, oh what a dreamer! Let’s continue...

I had made this trip on last Sunday, 23 September 2007 arrived almost 4pm. It started to rain when I reached there but it's did not deter me from continuing. So we went in purchase the RM15 entrance fee and handed with the bar code band to wrap around our wrist. As we are on the way in, we noticed from far this Chinese auntie at the entrance waving at us. She greeted us nicely and holds our wrist to point the bar code to the scanner. She then offered us the site map. As we bid goodbye to the nice auntie, the zoo train cum tour buggy arrived. We decided not to hop in and walk instead. As the zoo train pass by us, we were a little bit uncertain to start off our own tour. The map looks makes it look a long tour around the zoo. We decided on the left side where it points to the mammals’ area.

It was still raining. As we walk quarterly wet, we arrived at arch of the mammals’ area to snap my first photo of the tour. We move on after a few more shots and found ourselves waving at the giraffes trying to them to come nearer to us. The giraffes only gave us a glance as they are busy grazing their meals. Well, no chances to be up-close with the giraffes for now so we went on observe the groups of birds roaming the lake. They make funny sounds and movements like some kind of mating rituals. We stayed there for a while until we move on with the tour the rest of the mammal’s kingdom including the walk-in birdcage. It is interesting to know that most of the animals were sponsors by big local companies that have animals as the company’s logo like the Sumatran tigers was sponsored by Maybank and the camels by AMBank. During our walks we thought the rain got heavier, but it was the wild monkeys on the tree above us shake the branches. We did not expect to get fooled by the monkeys! We move on to the reptiles and the aquariums. Everything seems to be dark and gloomy everywhere. Overall, the best walk we had was the Savannah where it was this huge acre of land but sadly no animals there where it suppose to be probably taking shades else where due to the rain.

Maybe it’s the fasting month, not many activities are able to be held as the zoo closed early by 6pm when it was suppose to stay open until 10pm during weekend nights. Although we felt the trip somehow felt incomplete, we had our fun and laughs touring the zoo.

My Own Custom Domain with Blogspot and Google Apps

It has been long overdue but I should officially announce that my blog is now http://www.kilheeny.com/. I have started my blog with Blogspot for over a month now and I have decided to dotcomize my blog. I have read that registering your own domain will have its advantages especially when you plan to monetize your blog. I know it’s a given but why not enjoy the perks while you are at it. It’s all about your own choices and options right?

I have chose Blogspot as my blog publishing platform for its recognitions. Besides offering useful tools and great features to publish your own blog, there are numerous resources from season bloggers sharing their expertise in personalizing Blogspot blogs. In fact I have spent time working on my template ever since and rather then restart I should to continue learning. Not only I have gained extensive knowledge and experience from it but I thoroughly enjoyed all the work and play in the process.

Now back to the topic in mind, I find the transition of switching was made simple, easy and smooth. Blogspot not only offers to host all my contents as before but have it displayed with my own domain. I only need to get the domain name and I don't have to pay extra for hosting service. It’s good enough for me at that time at least I know have a year long to experience.

Registering my own domain

Once I have come up with my unique domain name, I proceed to login to my Dashboard and go to Settings > Publishing. Here I will find that my blog by default published by Blogspot. I clicked the Custom Domain link for the option to buy a domain. I checked the domain name that I had chose was available and register it with .com, instead of .net, .org, .info or .biz as other option. Registering the domain was made through a Google partner and cost USD$10 for one year. I will also get Google Apps as part of registration. Besides that, it was comforting to know that my original Blogspot address will also be automatically redirected to my new domain. I have made the purchase with Google Checkout costing me exactly MYR$34.88 and the domain was successfully registered with Enom.com as the domain registrar.

It took 4 days for my domain name to be activated. Prior to that, notice of transition kept appearing each time I updated my blog. It indicated that my blog was in transition of switching. My blog remains as the original Blogspot address although I notice all my contents have been converted to my new domain/post title. The links however does not work when I tried to copy and paste the new domain/post directly. I have to update the URL/post back to my original Blogspot address. At least it is safe to know that my blogs not lost and links or bookmarks to my blog still work.

It comes with Google Apps

Another good deal is Google Apps. I am familiar with Google applications like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk and Google Docs. Now I will able to use it with my own custom domain.

I have to login to Google Apps with my username @ my domain to access the control panel for my services settings. In the dashboard screen itself, it offers quick and user friendly features for editing. You have a total of 7 services at your disposal, mainly:

Allows users to access Google services and other information from a single place.
Allow users can customize the header, footer, color scheme and content.
Edit URL from start.domain.com to anything.domain.com

Mobilizing My Blog

I often access my web accounts with my mobile phone and most of it offers mobile optimized websites. Realizing the slow page upload and memory clog to have my blog viewed in full web/html, I had looked into ways to optimized it as mobile-friendly too. It's another option to share my blog for mobile users while on the fly.

Few publishing tools and optimizers are available to feature these services. It is mostly free and does not require technical knowledge to publish mobile version of your website or blog. However I find most of these services does not suit my needs in exception of feedm8.com.

I Capture Screen Shots With Jing

I have been using Jing Project from TechSmith for some time now. I find the features useful and it is currently free to use. With Jing Project, I have an option to capture images, record videos and shared it online as well. I have tried many other softwares alike but I will share about how and why I use Jing Project practically daily.

Once downloaded and installed, an email address is required to be updated upon launch. This is an option for the screenshots (images) or screencasts (videos) to be uploaded automatically to the hosting server. Registering an email will create a free account with Screencast.com. I however prefer to save and upload it manually using my favorite free hosting service since Screencast.com is only free for now.

Capture Screen Shots (Images)

One of the good feature of Jing Project is the capability of taking screenshot of another screenshot. I have not found any other software that is capable to do the same. Furthermore, in the capturing mode it will display pixel measurement which is very useful to predict the size of the screenshot taken.

It also offers few tools in the editing mode itself. I can add arrows, texts, boxes, highlights and colors. It saves time without launching a photo editing software. Hopefully it will feature resizing as well in the future.

Now I usually choose to save my captures to my laptop but it do offer share or embed option through Screencast.com as I mentioned earlier. Screencast offers 1GB free hosting for the trial period but I rather have it always available in my laptop.

Record ScreenCasts (Video)

In recording mode, it is quite straight forward point and shoot. It is ideal for short video tutorials and can be enhanced by adding voice with microphone. The embedded video will be displayed in actual size taken and can only be saved in .swf format.

It is a good reference feature to keep tabs of all the screenshots and screencasts taken. It can be filtered by date or size and by formats. Hopefully this software will remain free and for now I do enjoy using it. I Capture Screen Shots With FastStone Too

I have wrote about FastStone Image Viewer previously on adding watermarks to photos. Since we are on the subject of screen capture or screen shots, I would also like to highlight the same features that is available with FastStone Image Viewer as well.

Let me go straight to the point. And it's free download.I mainly use FastStone Image Viewer batch conversion, watermarks and resizing but it is a good alternative for screen shots. I have an option to capture:

Foreground Window
Window/Object
Rectangle Region
FreeHand Region
Full Screen

I can save the screenshot into the image viewer, clipboard or as a file and it support save format as jpeg, bmp, gif, png, tiff, pcx, tga and jpeg2000. For editing, I can set my favorite editing software link to open by right clicking the image taken in the image viewer. I hope this will be useful for those trying it. Among The Butterflies

Imagine a tranquil garden. Flourished with pleasant plants and flowers. The sounds of streaming water behind you. Surrounded with beautiful butterflies welcoming you. Now give me a moment or two and let me take you there...

This trip did caught me off guard. I mean I was surprised to find myself really enjoying it. What not to like? Nowadays we are busy with our own hectic life even when we have a free time we still circle around the hectic life of others. By any chance we need a breather, here is the place almost close to serenity in our own busy city, Kuala Lumpur.

Butterfly Park or Taman Rama Rama Kuala Lumpur is located in Perdana Lake or better known as Taman Tasik Perdana. Enjoy a glimpse of more than 6,000 butterflies of over 120 species at this unique park. The park is an imitation of the butterfly's natural habitat. It includes more than 15,000 plants from 100 species that have been used to recreate a Malaysian rainforest atmosphere. There is a nursery and breeding area for the butterflies. Facilities include an informative insect museum. ~~Visiting hours: from 9am to 5 pm on weekdays.~~ Opens daily from 9am to 6pm. At first I did wonder what does this seasoned building really has to offer me. After paying the RM10 (RM5 each person) entrance fee and push away the long vertical rows of green chains, I gawked at the wideness of the garden. I did not expect it to be that big after seeing the site building. It does resembles an atmosphere of a mini rain forest. There is this green box filled with cocoons right after we walk down the stairs, I guess the breading or nursery area. An interesting sight. The pathways are clean and well kept. And of course you will be amazed by the beautiful plants, flowers and butterflies all around you.

It's definitely a sight for sore eyes. Complimented with sitting areas. A modest pond filled with the huge koi fishes. The ever so hungry turtles in a separate pond. Streaming man-made waterfalls. A view tower. A rabbit cage and a snake aquarium (just one python). I just feel that I can rest there leaving the world behind me. It was more than two hours spend there and before we thought we can leave, we had to exit by the path through the insect museum which was fairly interesting. Not only we are able to see achieves of various insect species, there were live ones too.

Although the initial plan was to tour the whole Perdana Lake but realizing that most of the time we have spent only at the Butterfly Farm, we had to skip the rest for future trips. I think I should get a DSLR. Then come back to take more and better pictures than the ones I took with my current point and shoot camera. Google PageRank Jumped From 0 To 5 Overnight

I woke up in shocked this morning as I turn on my laptop. I open up Firefox and waited on my blog to load as I set it as my homepage. I rise up from my chair and can't believe what I see. My one month old website jumps from 0 to 5 in PageRank!

At first I thought it was a glitch in the system so I restarted Firefox again. It was still 5. OMG! This time I reboot. Open up and it is still 5! I decided to Google search "check page rank". I check the first 3 search pages. Most of it shows as 5 too. Damn it! Making me restless! After all the buzz about most season bloggers being slammed with their PageRanks. I am both excited and confuse. I know I being playing around with all the tips I have gathered on the web and reading it from other bloggers. Now I have no idea what I did? Is it playing a trick on me?

I didn't expect it. I have only upgraded to my own domain a month ago. But to jump straight to 5. All my other ranks, backlinks and traffic statistics remains the same. I am trying to figure out by back tracking my actions in the last few days. This is interesting. I know I should not get it over my head but at least I want to savior this moment. I will never know what will happen tomorrow till it comes. Getting it is one thing, maintaining it is the hard part. Anyways thank you Google and datacenters! Even for a glimpse of tiny glory. A good start to be in the mood in. Cheers!

Returning To Shangri-La

I am back and it has been a great start. Friendly faces, warm smiles and handshakes exchanged in welcoming me back everywhere I go. It has been a while that I have set foot to this place but here I am, being given a chance for a fresh start to continue my journey through at home.

I have resigned from Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur back in January this year to pursue new exposures in my career. I have been with the company since 1996 and 10 years of it have exposed me with rich and various experiences but I wanted more. It has been a complicated journey since I left. I had turn down the offer that I had because of a call back to train a new candidate. The one who initially replaced me had left. As a gesture of good will, I have accepted. After completing it, I had to deal with series of odd jobs that I do not find ideal to set a new career off.

Two months ago, I had received another call back from my former superior offering me to relinquish the position that I have held before. It went sour when he decided to left the company. Prior to his departure, his replacement promised to look into it once she settles in. Two weeks ago, I am pleased to learn that she came through for me. I have been given an opportunity, I seized it and today marks my official return. Now I shall resume eminent responsibilities and I look forward to the challenges ahead.

Making Shangri-La My Home

I am on my off day today. Yesterday was my third day working and I am given a break. We have to put up with long working hours so I am grateful for a chance to rest. Tomorrow the hotel will be overbooked to the max during this weekend. EARCOS Conference will be held here at the hotel. It will be the hotel's final major event for year 2007.

Since I have started work, I really do not have the chance to update my blog. I am constantly busy at work, always on the go and by time I finish, my energy all drained out. I don't even have the chance to drop by the event that Sheena attended yesterday.

I guess that now the only way for me to keep up with blogging is by moblog or twittering. I am glad that Blogspot have this option and I will try to make use of it. It should be a good way to share my life , my work and also the happenings that evolves around me. In fact, due to my long working hours, I will always be at work more than else where. I guess from now on I have to face the reality that Shangri-La will be my home and my home will be my hotel. Sad but true.

Being in the hospitality industry, it is expected that you will face challenges in communicating especially with those who do not master English as a spoken language. Even a simplest request for directions can be a daunting task. I often find myself in the situation where I desperately search for help when a guest approached me with a foreign language. In my profession, it is very important to understand the needs and wants of the guest.

At this age of modern time, many countries still do not recognize the international language, English as a lingua franca. Travelers around the world find it wise to master the language of the country they are visiting to benefit them in many ways. Otherwise, translation services are the perfect solution.

We all know that wrong communication may result in unpredictable consequences. There is no doubt that regardless spoken or written, messages need to be conveyed accurately in the exact meaning. So do you speak my language?

Saying YES to Drugs

I come across a task that leads to my curiosity to find out more about drugs and its purposes. It has become an interest to learn that drugs had existed in our life for centuries and through the years it has help us to improve our life and brings remedy to our illness.

What intrigue me were the tedious efforts in drug development process. I learned that the studies of drugs and medicine takes into complicated consideration that it is not just in making only profit but benefiting for the sake of human kind. I believe that the scientists and researchers would have spent countless hours not only completing but competing for the perfect finding.

I must say that it was an experience for me to venture into further understanding of what have been perceived negatively about drugs all this while. It was the mindset that had me ignore the facts that we cannot deny the needs of drugs as it would be definitely become necessity when you least expected.

"The Wealthiest Man in Asia". I was reading up the biography and astonished over the accomplishments reining the status. It is quite remarkable to learn of the achievements and felt honored to be a part of what he had successfully built. I am sure you get the hint knowing who I am referring to or should I add also known as “The Sugar King”.

I won’t deny that it did cross my mind to daydream about being an heir or a beneficiary. Not to the extent that I end up like Paris Hilton. Then again, I have learned that now it is not like the good old days or the traditional ways where it is much simpler that you know as a descendant or even beneficiaries you know what coming for you. Now you have to take into consideration to deal with proceedings, legal matters and even available services like inheritance loan.

Well, a dream is just a dream and most definitely I am not one of the privileged few. Would you imagine yourself at least being the heir of an inheritance? Who would be yours?

Learning How To Gamble

Have you gambled before? I am not into the game myself but I remembered back when I was doing fire training at the Fraser Hill I was invited by colleagues who was staying next door to play few rounds of blackjack. At first I thought it was just a game to kill time but when I realized when money involved I know it was the real deal. Although we played for chump change I was eager to learn more of the techniques and skills that will be presented over the table. I've have played blackjack before and I must say I was tempted when they let me win the first few game. These people knows the game very well letting me win first to encourage me then end of the story I lost it all. It was a good lesson learned and I enjoyed being around the table. Now off to check-out some online casino. :)

I have enlist myself to take part in a product placement campaign and for this reason, a package in blue had arrived from ReboundTag and now I am up for a review.

Call it "Travel Trauma" and for those who travels often surely know how frustration it can be when you have nothing on you but the clothes behind your back and your luggage is no where to be found.
