Matt Mitchell commented:

“We set out to make this record more intense in every direction than Last Days… Prettier and heavier, more gentle, vicious, intense, technically challenging, you name it. Having Marina on vocals has allowed us to highlight aspects of the music that might have otherwise been missed. She’s able to access dimensions of expression the rest of us just can’t. The depth that Bryce’s killer backups bring can’t go unmentioned either; the combination of the two creates greater than the sum of its parts. ‘Burn Holy’ took more or less a year for us to write, starting about three months after the first record came out. There was no regular process. Some songs had the instrumental written first, vocals later. Some were all at once, some were a back-and-forth iterative process of rearranging, rewriting, rinse and repeat. As they developed, each song developed its own voice. We tried above all else to listen to what they told us was needed, and far more often than not, we all heard the same thing. Some songs went through upwards of 10 or 12 versions. It was a very intense process, and I think we all feel, because of that, that this is literally the best record we were capable of making at that point.”

“‘Be Not Afraid’ is ultimately about fear and awe and the consequences of their manipulation. We wanted to express our resistance to that, in the dynamics of the music, with a feeling of relentlessness and spiritual inevitability. Like erosive crashing waves or the fury of a mother protecting her young… You use whatever tools you have to rebalance the scales.”

King Parrot have shared an official video for their track “It’s A Rort..” That song is taken from the group's latest album “A Young Person’s Guide To King Parrot.” Frontman Matt Young told Metal Injection the following:

“When we started playing ‘It’s A Rort,’ we felt that the audience participation factor for the hardcore style breakdown at the end might make it a crowd favourite. It felt like a no-brainer to make a video for this song and when we headlined Flippin’ The Bird in February, we felt it was the right moment to capture the live intensity of the song. ‘Rort’ is a common term we use back home when you’re getting ripped off, scammed, or lied to. We’ve recently found out that ‘rort’ is not a word commonly used in the US so we’ve spent time explaining it to people, as we feel like it’s a pretty apt time to use it!”

Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper

Alex: When discussing influences for any Nekrogoblikon release, Children of Bodom always has to be mentioned, as they’re a primary instrumental influence for Eric, Raptor, and myself. I mention Follow the Reaper here specifically because of our song “Dead-ish” (instrumentally composed by Eric), which feels like a similar vibe to that album. When it came time for me to write lyrics, it felt very natural to channel a little bit of Alexi’s irreverent “fuck you” attitude into them.

Fear Factory - Demanufacture

Alex: I’ve been a Fear Factory fan for a very long time - in fact, when I was in high school and learning how to program drums and record myself on guitar and bass, “Replica” was the first song I ever recorded a cover of.

However I would say this release is the first time I’ve taken direct influence from them for a riff/part for Nekrogoblikon - specifically the verse in “Fiend” with the machine-gun synchronized kick drums and guitar chugs. We of course gave it the Nekro twist by having it move melodically with layers of harpsichords and synths.

Eric: One of the few albums that was still in rotation when we moved on from listening to nu-metal and started getting into heavier music, this one still holds up.

Between the Buried and Me - Colors

Alex: I was already in Nekrogoblikon when this album came out and it absolutely blew my mind - there’s even some moments on Stench that were influenced by it. For the song “Secret Elephant” I aimed to write the bridge instrumental in a relative major key, and I ended up with the same chord progression as the first track on Colors, “Foam Born (A) The Backtrack”.

Slipknot - Iowa

Alex: At one point in time I knew every word on this album. I always loved how Corey Taylor struck the perfect balance between simple (yet powerful) aggression and eloquence when it came to lyrics. His style of vocal patterning also had a huge impact on how I write growling rhythms.

Eric: Iowa is just an absurdly heavy album, especially for the time, it blew us away when it came out and it really left a lasting impression.

Bilmuri - AMERICAN MOTOR SPORTS

Alex: Raptor wrote a majority of the clean vocal melodies on the EP and during that period of time this was his most played album.

Raptor: The hooks are undeniable - the vocal melodies, the grooves, the sax leads - all of them!

Faith No More - Angel Dust

Alex: This album is not only one of mine and Joe’s all-time favorites in general but also remains a constant reminder to not let any two songs on a release sound similar. Instead, the goal is always to have a collection of songs that each can be its own mini-universe, which is what Angel Dust is a perfect example of.

Archspire - Bleed the Future

Eric: Archspire is a go-to tech death band when we want to sink some beers to something heavy and fast (extremely fast). Not to downplay their first album by any means, but Bleed the Future was a huge leap in quality for both their songwriting and production. Now having seen them live a number of times, they are taking extreme music to a whole new level, and we appreciate their execution that much more knowing they’re just a bunch of goofballs.

The Bloodhound Gang - Hooray For Boobies

Eric: I think all of us in our own unique lives and corners of the world grew up singing along to this one when it came out, and it still carries a message that is just as relevant today as it was in the 90s. One of those records that embeds itself in your subconscious for its simplicity, humor, and quality songwriting, delivered with a tone of voice that makes us regular guys feel like we had a legitimate shot at creating our own hit songs.

System of a Down - Toxicity

Eric: Another album we were all (and still are) independently fans of. Heavy music on the radio was still relatively new at the time, and SOAD’s melodies are as undeniable as their unique brand of silly, while still talking about topics with deep and personal meaning. It’s hard to ignore anything that knocked our socks off this hard when it came out so it will forever be an important influence in our own writing.

Infected Mushroom - Vicious Delicious

Eric: Infected Mushroom is a high-ranking Nekro favorite that always hits the spot and sets the mood whenever we just want something to jam out to. Every record from these guys is a certified banger, but Vicious Delicious in particular stands apart for the number of hooks and memorable moments they crammed into an album with top-tier production, and changed the game in a sense of how psytrance and electronic music could be presented. Some of the most well written and catchiest electronic music you can sing along to.

Virtual Riot - Stealing Fire

Eric: VR is one of the best electronic music artists of the modern age. He’s primarily a dubstep producer, but underneath that exterior you can hear a wide range of styles on Stealing Fire, tons of catchy melodies and grooves, and some truly heavy jams. His sound design is mind-blowingly next level, he creates sounds nobody else does, and through all the chaos still somehow has the cleanest mixdowns I’ve ever heard from this type of music.

Lots of artists in this space tend to pump out singles and EPs, and while VR is no different, he still manages toone-up himself and put out thoughtfully executed full-length albums every few years. Stealing Fire is a great one from start to finish, every song gracefully flows into the next, it’s a really enjoyable listen as a whole if you’re open minded to music with strange, loud and futuristic Yoinking noises. Immersing myself in this album as well as learning from his process via YouTube has helped me grow immensely as a producer and sound designer.

“lemonlime was the first song written for our self titled album, but it didn’t quite fit the tracklist at the time. this song is the first and the last, a song about caring for someone with chronic illness, survival, and imagining there is a place we all could rest. it settles itself into the themes of our recently released self titled album, propelled by a joyful korg m1, and wrapped in twinkling arpeggios, lemonlime is a sad dream, if you wake up.”

Kurt Deimer has shared an official video for his cover of Queensrÿche's “Silent Lucidity.” The track, which features former Queensrÿche singer Geoff Tate, is from Deimer’s new album, "A Grog Is Born," which will be available on May 8. Deimer said the following:

“Working with Geoff Tate on this song was amazing. Along with Chris Lord-Alge, Geoff is a huge mentor to me. The music video shows the raw footage of us all in the studio recording it because we really wanted to show the passion, heart and soul that went into the recording process of this version of the song. Suicide prevention is also really important to me. I made a point to include information in the video to not only bring awareness but to hopefully encourage someone who needs help to get it.”

Rolo Tomassi have shared an official video for their song “Tempest.” That track appears on their latest EP “In The Echoes Of All Dreams.” The band said the following:

“We’re pleased to share the video for ‘Tempest’ alongside the vinyl release of our EP ‘In The Echoes Of All Dreams.’ We can’t wait to be back out playing some shows this summer and move forward with this new material, having enjoyed our 20th anniversary celebrations in 2025. Haste The Day have shared a new track called “Adrift.” That song will appear on their new album, “Dissenter,” which will be available on May 1. The band commented:

“‘Adrift’ is a pleading, atmospheric ballad that balances heavy guitars with subtle, layered intensity. The song unfolds slowly, revealing unexpected harmonies beneath its weight. Lyrically, it explores disconnection, exile, and the loss of home— capturing the erosion of identity that follows.”

As Everything Unfolds have shared an official video for their new song “FIND ANOTHER WAY.” That track appears on their newly released album “DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE?.” Vocalist Charlie Rolfe said the following about the single:

“‘Find Another Way’ is a song written about having to come to terms with my own self sacrifice and letting go of holding control of things I just can’t anymore. I found I just needed to follow the path that was always destined for me. I really started to think about how as soon as I started to accept my present reality, my path & just letting things happen, how much more I was able to manage myself on a day to day basis, sacrificing the person I was before all my trauma, letting them go and evolving into this new version of myself, whether that be for better or worse in the meantime, it’s who I am now supposed to be and I will find another way to be, another way to exist and find myself again. I remember watching ‘Donnie Darko’ and for some reason this particular time I watched it, it hit me in a way I never felt before, watching Donnie have to come to terms with his own death so his friends/family can continue to live, how he tried to ignore his new reality, and in the end he found happiness in knowing what he did saved everyone around him.”

She also commented on the album:

“People often reference and say that their album has been a journey process for them in their experiences, a form of therapy if you will. I’ve never related to something so deeply as I have with this record. This album’s process started in an extremely positive part of my life, we started writing the record, things were going well, music was flowing we had about ten demos at this point, I was living in harmony and happiness, finally starting to feel at peace in life with my bandmates, friends, family and partner, only to be hit with the shift of losing more than I can even describe.

I had to move from my home, drugs/alcohol were corrupting people around me. Alongside this my boyfriend, and fellow bandmate Jamie, passed away. Going through all of this trauma and grief left me in a state of numbness, losing all sense of myself. After some time we decided to tackle writing again, I started journaling after my therapy sessions a lot and turning those entries into lyrics, and it rolled from there into a lot of the songs you hear on this record. Given the nature of Jamie’s passing and other traumas happening midway through the process, you really get the sense of change, the sonic and lyrical dynamic shift in the music, and as hard as it is, to listen to some of the tracks, knowing what I’d been through, knowing that some tracks Jamie had either heard or he hadn’t, even now it’s still hard to process, but that process, that movement and passage of time it’s what makes it a journey of our experiences.

I found a lot of comfort in my passions during my time alone. I spent a lot of time waiting for days to go by, experiencing what I now know to be maladaptive daydreaming, just to get myself out of my own life and human experience whenever I could. I started to play with the idea of writing this record through the perspective of escapism, mirroring my own escape from trauma into daydreams, movies and music. Films like ‘Blade Runner,’ ‘Donnie Darko,’ ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ and ‘The Shining’ allowed me to express my thoughts and feelings with a protective barrier, pretending to be someone else rather than living these experiences in real time as Charlie.

I was really seeking new musical inspiration after our second album. Reading ‘The Creative Act’ by Rick Rubin changed the way I wrote melodies and lyrics, and how I viewed creativity as a whole. I spent a lot of time writing subconsciously while driving, walking or cooking. For example, I was blasting the ‘Gasoline’ instrumental demo while cooking and wrote the whole chorus almost in one take, voice noting it immediately, and it didn’t change much from there to the final version.

I ended up going backwards to my teenage years for inspiration, pulling from music I feel so connected to like My Chemical Romance, Thirty Seconds to Mars’ ‘A Beautiful Lie’ and Flyleaf’s ‘Memento Mori,’ alongside the New Wave and New Romantic music I was brought up on. Bands like Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Duran Duran and Adam & The Ants influenced the album visually, while peers like Vukovi, Rivals, Enter Shikari, The Throwaway Scene and South Arcade helped shape it in the present.”

MISSIO have shared an official video for their new song "Dopamine Kisses.” That track will appear on their new album “Love & Heartbreak,” which will be available on July 3. The duo commented:

“In any relationship it can be the most beautiful thing to see the best in the other person. You love them so much that you can see their potential and what they're capable of. You see through their insecurities and vulnerabilities, and want them to be the best and most authentic version of themselves as they exist in the world. The challenge, however, is accepting them as they are and not attempting to change or fix them, that has to come from them. I've struggled with a savior complex throughout my life, thinking I'm capable of saving other people from themselves. The hard reality for me, though, is that I cannot change anyone but myself. I've learned time and time again that it is not my responsibility. The Amity Affliction have shared an official lyric video for their new song “Heaven Sent.” That track will appear on their new album, “House Of Cards,” which will be available on April 24. Vocalist Joel Birch said the following:

“This is one of the darker songs on the album, the first line references one of a handful of memories I have from when I was really young and my stepfather still smoked. He put his cigarette out on my arm at a party and then played it off as an accident. My mother was busy getting drunk and brushed it off and told me to keep it moving, basically. The rest of the song is a snapshot of my home life in some ways and the way the abuse was cyclical in nature and always prefaced by or followed by ‘I love you,’ which obviously creates some strange and unhealthy ways for a young person to understand their relationship to a parent.”

Graphic Nature have shared an official video for their new song “Faceless.” Frontman Harvey Freeman said the following about that:

“’Faceless’ is the beginning of the new era of Graphic Nature. We spent a lot of time working on what we wanted to get out of the new sound, our collective influences helped pave the way for what we’ve created. We are pleased to announce this single will be released via our new record label Century Media.”

Ho99o9 have shared an official video for their song “OK, I’m Reloaded.” The track appears on the duo's latest album “Tomorrow We Escape.” Ho99o9 said the following:
