My first time shooting at the Austin 360 Amphitheater was for Mayhem Fest with Rob Zombie...not too shabby.

Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom (bucket list check!), followed by interviews with Amon Amarth, Mastodon, and Chris from Five Finger Death Punch.

I've been shooting 5FDP for many years. Ya know, back in the tiny clubs when nearly no one knew who they were. Now they're main stage and while I've had some ups and downs with the band, I must give a horns up to drummer, Jeremy Spencer for going out of his way for me to help me with my photo pass issues I was encountering.

We interviewed Piggy D. from Rob Zombie's band and sat front row for an interview with Mr. Rob Zombie himself (bucket list, check two!)...

Then off trudging through the ATX desert to shoot Children of Bodom, up to the VIP press tent for the typical hurry-up-and-wait trips to and from the photo pit of the main stage...

RIP Mitch Lucker - Suicide Silence

I didn't know him personally, other than to capture his stellar live performances. My only personal encounter with Mitch was at a bar in Syracuse, NY. A bouncer was giving me a hard time and tried to make me leave because I had my camera without a pre-issued pass. Mitch witnessed the scene and told the bouncer I was with him and to leave me alone. A random act of kindness from a fierce metal music performer that I've always appreciated. The metal community lost an icon today. RIP Mitch and thank you for all you've left behind! Another life taken too soon. Tragic.

Austin Business Awards Event

What an introduction to Austin!!

After living here for only a month, my first major photo shoot (other than concerts, of course) was for the 900-person Austin Business Awards.

It was such a great night! I met some wonderful people in a room full of smiles and "FREE HUGS". Austin is fun and full of great energy!

Another Bucket List Check! Sounds Under Radio

Sounds Under Radio - I first heard them in an episode of The Vampire Diaries. Whatever, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley are hot and I don't care if it's a 'teen' show, it's very well done.

Anyway, every once in a great while, a song moves me to the point where I will do anything to figure out who the artist is, and then buy it on iTunes, and then play it to death. That was the case for "All You Wanted".

All I wanted was to listen to all of their songs on a continuous loop for months. No, it's not my usual music - much softer, actually, but for some reason - it struck a huge chord with me. I'm just short of obsessed...ok, maybe I am a little obsessed with them. I know that Austin is their hometown and it just so happens to be one of the many perks to my moving here. I will be seeing them live, and 'shooting' them in less than two weeks and my excitement is long overdue! In case I forget to tell you later, the show was f'ng awesome! ;)

ESPN Friday Night Fights

I survived boxing! My first boxing match. I had to ask I guy working for ESPN for some advice and tips before I shot, because - and I'll be the first to admit it - I had no business being ringside. Other than a few drops of sweat flying at me (of which I'm a veteran of. That happens at every concert) and damn near dying once when the boxer fell onto the rope in front of my face - who knew the ropes had so much elasticity! Anyway, other than that, it was a lot of fun! Throw me fast action and a photography challenge any day!

Jane's Addiction

Jane's Addiction at the Palace Theatre in Albany, back in March 2012. I had waited about two decades to see them. Cliche to say, but so worth the wait! Not only was I the house photographer for this show!!! Thank you Palace!

I was also planted close to center stage, Perry Farrell opened his red wine and knelt down before me and we shared some sips. Then, Dave Navarro invited my friend Mels and me onto the bus after the show!

I finally shot Stone Temple Pilots (STP) at the Palace Theatre, Albany, NY. This narrows down my list of shows I've yet to shoot and hands down one of the best shows I've ever seen. I was moved. Not sure if it was the anticipation of "waiting on a Sunday afternoon" -for Scott's exceptionally late arrival from NYC, or the nostalgia of shooting a band that led me through the pain of my twenties, or both. But, regardless, slapping Mr. Weiland's clammy hand was a moment for me. Though his speech was unbelievably slurred, his energy was spot on.

I know his story. You'd have to live under a rock to not know it, as well. My heart aches for him and the choices of his own doing. I'm grateful to have captured part of the moment to share with you!

Clearly, he's still not dead, and not for sale...

"Hey you, will you ever get out of there?"

Was on the other side of the camera today, as a last minute extra for an independent film being shot in Hudson, NY. Eleven hours. Sooo tired! I'll continue to update the progress of this one. I'm booking more and more weddings, though that's not my specialty, I'm especially excited for the one on the beach in Maine next year!

The Monkees cancelled their tour :( so that's off, but Carnival of Madness and Cirque du Soleil are still on, along with some upcoming shows at The Palace! :)

In Sniper News...

I've recently returned from my vacation in Maine. It was really hard to leave! I'm finding it hard to toss out the sand in the bottom of my bag. Makes the end of vacation seem so final.

It's still in the beginning stages, but ARC (Albany Rowing Center) appears to be using one of my images on their winning-medal for the regatta, and anniversary (25th) t-shirts!! Awesome!!

Many of my images will be appearing on a wall mural at the Latham, NY Applebee's restaurant. Uh, that's big!

Some more of my images are randomly appearing in the lobbies of some Albany, NY area hotels...too cool!

My last music shoot was ETA (Eve to Adam)...(keep your eye out for these guys because I've got a great feeling about them), Cold, and Saving Abel.

My last event shoot was the unveiling of Owney the dog, an Albany legend, on a postage stamp. The Humane Society brought two dogs, both of which I fell in love with, of course :(

Up next for shoots, Carnival of Madness, Cirque du Soleil, The Monkees, and I've forgotten what else.

All that said, I'm extremely grateful for every opportunity and what makes it even more special is the fact that I feel I've worked hard and earned it. I've been passionate and dedicated and lost countless hours of sleep pursuing success (and my definition of that will need to be explained in another blog).

I'm not bragging, well maybe a tad, but I'm sharing what's new with me, with you. It won't always be good, and I'm not always proud of me, but for this blog...I am!

Our first ever UMM...Upstate Metal Magazine - August 2009, Issue 1 is out! Available online at http://upstatemetal.net and in print in various locations throughout New York state. We are busy working on Issue 2, to be released in September. I am the Art/Production Director, official photographer, contributing writer, and ad sales rep for the zine. Last night, shot Nickelback, Hinder, Papa Roach, and Saving Abel @SPAC. Got a sweet shot of Papa Roach - running back from racing through the crowd of 17,500...sticking his face right up to my lens...I'll post that ASAP. Upstate Metal goes to print on Monday :D

Shot In This Moment on Saturday for the 7th time! Interviewed bassist, Jesse Landry (my favorite subject EVER). His lengthy and personal interview will be printed in the September Issue of Upstate Metal (UM) magazine! Sunday, I shot Big Day Out...Staind, The Offspring, Shinedown, Sum 41, and Halestorm. A little biased, but Shinedown was amazing as always.

Working on wrapping up Issue 1 of UM and updating/revising the website http://www.upstatemetal.net/ all this week. Saturday, shooting Merauder @Bogies; and Sunday, it's the battle for EdgeFest local band competition @NL.

Today, I'll be shooting a portrait session w/six kids. Very new experience for me. Then off to shoot In This Moment for the 7th time! @Northern Lights tonight. Opening for them, my dear friends, also, in The Designer Drugs. Tomorrow it's an all day event @SPAC for WHRL's Big Day Out. I'll be shooting Staind, Chevelle, Shinedown, Sum 41, The Offspring, Halestorm, and more. I'll be launching, finally, Issue 1 of Upstate Metal Magazine - available in print Friday, July 17th, if all goes as planned. Also launching that day will be the newly updated www.upstatemetal.net
Photos of Def Leppard @SPAC have been posted to my flickr site...if you're interested, look those up...Poison shots will be there soon, as well. Once the magazine is launched, I'll be busy gathering material for Issue 2...interviews, news, reviews, ads, and photos...maybe we'll leak out a little bit about who'll be in that issue along the way. Getting closer to wrapping up the brand new, First ever issue of Upstate Metal Magazine, as we break away from UpstateLIVE Music Guide. Also redesigning the official Upstate Metal website. Our first issue has a featured, three page interview with Cannibal Corpse and a continued 'part II' of the interview will be posted to our website. Needless to say, we've been a little busy, you know, traveling throughout NY, interviewing metalheads, writing CD reviews, taking photographs from the pit...but we plan to deliver!

Summer Upstate Metal Concert Update 2009

Kicking off summer 2009 launching the brand new Upstate Metal Magazine, a subdivision of UpstateLIVE Music Guide, published by Goldstar Entertainment, along with my co-journalist and partner in concert crime, Marisa. Upstate Metal Magazine is a black and white, print and online publication focusing primarily on hard rock, hard core, punk, metal, and death metal. I am Upstate Metal's official photographer. I also contribute band interviews and write the occasional concert review. I'll be doing some heavy traveling throughout upstate NY, as usual, this summer to shoot numerous bands...Sevendust in Watertown, Daath in Gramercy, 311 at SPAC, In This Moment in Uniondale, EdgeFest in Altamont with Black Label Society, Mudvayne, Static-X, Hurt, Sick Puppies, and more. Will be firing off concert and promo shots of Unholy in July. I may even photograph the American Idol Tour for the second time at the Times Union Center in Albany...Adam Lambert. This is just a brief summary of the summer of '09. There will be countless other shows, band promos, and concerts popping up along the way.
