Dear Parents,

Cottonwood Canyon kindergarten registration packets for 2012 / 2013 will be available in the front office beginning Tuesday, February 21, 2012 between 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.   At that time you will need to make an appointment to return with the completed packet and all documents that are required for enrollment. The scheduled appointment dates and times are from Monday, March 12 through Friday, March23, 2012 between 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Please see below for kindergarten registration requirements.  While we will do our very best to honor your request of AM or PM hours, consideration will be given as of the date that the registration packet is completed on or after March 12, 2012.  Students will not be placed on the AM/PM request list until their packets are totally completed.

Parents got together to assist with the “Jump For Heart” program – raising awareness for keeping a healthy heart.  Our kids were treated to many fun activities from our parent volunteers.

We learned about the first president of the United States last week. 

1. We read some interesting information about George Washington.
2. Then, we wrote about what we learned.
3. Next, we colored a picture of George Washington
4. Finally, we put it all on construction paper to place on the wall.

After reading “The Gingerbread Man”, the students were tested on their comprehension of the story for the 2nd trimester report card.  Then, the kids were surprised by Melanie Wilson (Landon’s mom) when she assisted them in making and baking gingerbread cookies.  We all got to eat them fresh out of the oven.  Wow, they were yummy!  Thanks Melanie.

On Valentine’s Day, our students shared candies, cupcakes, and cookies with each other.  It was a fun sugar-filled day.  I sugared them up, then gave them back to the parents.  I am sure the parents loved that. 

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Our students made a special video for all our parents on this special day.

We have an “easy load” because of a short week..  Really work hard on writing the letters of the alphabet – upper and lower case.  Also know how to read the first 40 Fry words from your spelling lists on the right.

2. www.KinderRoom.com – Please read the “here” ebook with your child.  Also read any other books that you feel require review.  Thanks!

4. Read to or with your child 15 minutes each day.  Point to the words as you read.  Your child will start to recognize the words that show up more than once on the page.  Also make sure that the reading selection is at the kindergarten or first grade level.

Mr. B’s class is having a small Valentine’s Party (just for the students) Tuesday, February 14, 2012.  If you would like to bring in cupcakes or cookies for the kids, I am sure I would – I mean – the kids would love it.  Juice Drink donations would also be appreciated.

Students can bring cards and/or treats for their classmates to place in their decorated Valentine’s bag we will have made in class.  Only place your child’s name on each card (i.e. – From, Caiden).  Please do not attempt to place all the children’s name on the cards or gifts.  This would make it much more difficult to pass out.  Thanks!

Wow!  Time is flying fast.  We are celebrating 100 days of school on Tuesday, January 31st.  Just think how much your child has learned since the beginning of the year.  GREAT JOB KIDS!
