1. IE8 dropped last week, and has been heavily promoted on MSN’s frontpage, which means, hopefully the IE6 will finally go away! Even more exciting is the news of IE8.1 which will allow you to run FF extensions, including the Web Developer Toolbar. (via Smashing Magazine)

2. NetTuts has a list of 50 excellent image galleries, which looks useful! (via Script&Style)

Farhad Manjoo is spot on with this article about Facebook’s new look! People resist change-even when the change is for the better! I like the new look, by the way.

Jonathan Weber writes about the Googlization of Small Business over at The Big Money. As someone who runs a small business which works with other small businesses and non-profits, Google is really a godsend. The applications are free and easy to use! Gmail is the bomb. Google Docs is a little less powerful, but you can collaborate easily with anyone from anywhere! It’s amazing! Hopefully we can trust them to not be evil

And, I’ve been thinking a lot about tooltips these days, trying to find the perfect one for a project I’m working on. I’m going to try out this interesting jQuery plugin today! I’ll let y’all know how it works!

Kickball!

My site for our kickball team, the Pill Pushers, went live yesterday! The site is built on top of WordPress, and I did some scripting to create an automatic countdown clock as well as a nickname generator. All in all, I’m pretty pleased with it! It was a fun little project!

Text Replacement Smackdown

Cufón vs sIFR

What can I say, I’m in love! Cufón is quick, easy, and beautiful with no learning curve. And, since it’s not using flash, the text replacement doesn’t break on the iphone, which means my sites look the same on desktops and mobile devices! yay!

However, sIFR offers a lot more control because it can target classes and id’s, something which Cufón cannot do. Also, not all fonts can be Cufónized because of license restrictions, so depending on the desired typeface, Cufón might not even be an option. sIFR also has awesome documentation and great support, so when you do run into snags, help is available.

If given the choice though, I’d choose speed over flexibility. Cufón wins the smackdown, hands down.

I am learning PHP right now, mostly by messing around with WordPress’ guts, but after I am done with school, I plan on really buckling down and mastering it. Brown PHP looks like it will be one of my major resources. I read this article about Zend vs Cake PHP and it was really informative-looks like I’ll be sticking with Cake!
