Retention of HiPos: You Don't Have to Tell Them They're HiPo to Retain Them...

I'm pretty much on the record in favor of telling high potential employees (HiPos) that are part of a formal succession plan that "they're on the list". John Sullivan gave 20 reasons a while back over at ERE why releasing the names in some fashion makes sense. It's a good list, if a little long. The length makes it comprehensive, so check it out.

What’s In Your House?

A recent article in my local newspaper quoted a sheriff’s deputy describing a scene at a home where they responded to a report of missing 16 month old baby. The child had been missing for about an hour as reported by the couple (unsure if they are married, living together or just caring for the child), who answered the door.

Inside they found nearly 300 exotic animals, 7 of which were Burmese pythons, various other snakes, lizards, rats, gerbils and hedgehogs – a definite “who’s who” of the animal kingdom.

Employees Who Hate You - But Refer Candidates To You...

Employees who refer candidates to you love you. Except when they don't. Then it's all about the duckets...

Without question, employee referral programs are a must for any organization. While we can debate the mechanics and details, everyone I know agrees that referral programs produce some of the best hires for any company.

You Know You're A Leader When People Start Mimicking the Stupid Stuff You Do...

You know you're a rockstar in your company when your stupid habits become trends that others follow. Examples of seemingly meaningless stuff in companies I've worked for that become trends when initiated by the right person in a group:

<

blockquote dir="ltr">

        1. Parking in the back of the parking lot when good spots are available upfront.
