hey, everybody! come to our party!

next week, kitchen sink turns 2 years old! holy crap!

to celebrate, we'll be doing lots of fun stuff all day, including giving out gifts at random, karaoke, and giving you a free in-house coffee with any food purchase!

at night, we'll heat things up a bit. the real party is from 5-9. there will be birthday cake, more karaoke, some booze (feel free to b.y.o.b.!), and we'll end the evening with some live music! kitchen sink barista lewis will perform with his two-piece band, band practice. it's going to be a good time! keep an eye on our facebook page for updates.

you've seen the signs in our window and windows of other edgewater businesses: edge card accepted here. people have been asking us what the edge card is all about and how to go about getting one. problems solved!

the edge card is a discount card for local businesses. find a complete list of participating businesses and their deals here.

previously, you could only one them at the chamber of commerce office, but now you can get one at our cafe! $15. cash only. get into it, people. tell your neighbors.

hello, hello! it's been a while! ally took a bit of a break from social media for a while, but she's back in action!!

here's some kitchen sink news:

- there are some new faces behind the counter these days. stop in and meet baylie, or jason, or brent, or malic!

- it's kinda sorta springtime! yay! that means the patio is in full-swing!

apparently there is a city-wide service issue with RCN, which is affecting us. so if you call the shop and can't get through, that's why! luckily, our internet has not been acting up.

if you need to get a hold of us, please send an e-mail. ally will keep a close eye on the inbox.

i've spent a good deal of time on hold with RCN, but haven't had the patience to ride it out and talk to a person. does anyone know what's going on?

it's hard to believe, but tomorrow, january 4, is our first anniversary!

it has a been a great year, and it's flown by. we are endlessly grateful for the support and loyalty we've received from our neighbors over the past year!

2010 is almost over! can you believe it? we hardly can!

a big thanks to everyone who stopped in on christmas eve and christmas day. it was nice to see your smiling faces! we hope everyone had a nice, relaxing weekend.

we will also be open on new year's eve (normal hours: 6:30a - 8p) and new year's day (9a - 6:30p).

and don't forget that if you need to get a belated last-minute gift, a kitchen sink gift card is a fine choice!

new menu in effect

ok! it's here! the new menu!

we've got 4 varieties of breakfast burritos now, we've scaled down and slightly tweaked our sandwich menu, and we are no longer serving salads*. if you'd like a sandwich atop a bed of arugula rather than bread, we can do that for you at an added cost ($1.00). we are also offering two soup sizes rather than one.

prices on a few items have increased to reflect their cost to us. price-increased items are: added bacon/avocado/ham/sausage, bagel with hummus & veggies, bagel with nutella. the price of breakfast burritos has also gone up, because they are more voluminous and have more ingredients now!

come in and try something new! tell us what you think!

*for those wondering, we decided to do away with salads because they just weren't popular enough. we'd end up with a sizable amount of waste from spoiled produce, as well as wasted storage space. for a shop that takes up less than 1,000 square feet, storage space is precious!

it's been a while since we've blogged! here's a peek inside the wide world of kitchen sink!

- we have some lovely new works adorning our walls by two local artists. come check it out!

- we will be open christmas eve and christmas day! friday, dec. 24, we will be open from 7:30 a.m. til 2 p.m. and on saturday, dec. 25, we will be open from 8 a.m. til 2 p.m. don't be shy! come visit jeff and ally and sprinkle us with your holiday cheer!

- we have made some adjustments to our menu! keep your eyes peeled for more breakfast burrito options, slight sandwich changes and other mysteries! we should be unrolling the new menu later this week!

just in time for the arrival of holiday season, we're pleased to announce we have fancy electronic gift cards!!

you can put as much credit on a gift card as you'd like, and we'll give you a free drink with each increment of $25 added to your card.

you don't have to give the card as a gift, though. if you don't often carry cash and hate swiping your credit card for a $3-drink, buy yourself a card and reload it when your funds run out!

the case of the extra tamper

ok, here's a weird little story from this weekend:

about two years ago, when this place wasn't kitchen sink, someone stole our espresso tamper while jeff was working. that's a weird thing to do, right? first of all, we have kind of an odd-sized portafilter basket. second of all, why would you steal a tamper from your neighborhood coffee shop?

anyhow, a new one was ordered and we've been using it ever since.

yesterday, shortly after jeff headed home from his shift, ally was standing on the customer side of the counter talking to erin. next to the banana bowl lay a tamper. ally thought it weird that it had migrated so far from the espresso bar, and went to replace it on the espresso hopper. except the tamper was already there!

jeff and ally tore the place apart during renovations about a year ago. if there had been an extra tamper floating around, it would have come up during this time. it didn't.

no one knows how the old tamper got there. it seems the perp who stole it about two years ago was so overcome by guilt that he returned it.

strange days!

it's the holiday season! time to get stressed out and over-consume for the next month or so!

hopefully it will ease your mind to learn that we will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day (this Thursday)! ally and lewis will gladly serve up some coffee to get you ready to slave away over your kitchen sink (hardy-har-har!) all morning.

let us make you breakfast while you enjoy a day off. leave the family at home. breathe deeply. close your eyes. you're on an island. you're with your power animal.

... okay, back to reality.

we also have a traditional thanksgiving feast-inspired sandwich: the lil' gobbler. it's got turkey, stuffing, melted cheddar, & cranberry mayo on toasted bread.

oh! and we have IRL interactivity!! come write on the chalkboard side of our drink cooler! share with the word the things for which you are thankful (and kindly ignore that the question on the board ends in a preposition)!!
