To the Parents/Guardians of Kittleson Zachary,

Congratulations!  Your student’s application for the BMAH (9 – 12) Magnet Program at Glen Burnie High School met all eligibility requirements.  We are pleased  to now offer your student a seat for the 2012-2013 school year for this Magnet Program!

To reserve your seat in this program, or to decline your seat, you must complete the Magnet Program Accepted Student Commitment Form by noon on Tuesday, February 7, 2012. Please go to http://www.aacps.org/SelectSurvey/TakeSurvey.asp?SurveyID=l2Mll35J7621G  and use your student’s assigned Magnet ID Number (6118)to complete this form and accept or decline your seat in this program.

If we do not receive your response of accepted or decline by noon on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, your child will be removed from the “Accepted Students” list and will not receive a seat in the designated Magnet Program.

Please take a few moment to read this email carefully for important information regarding accepting your seat in this Magnet Program:

Students who applied to multiple Magnet Programs may receive offers for multiple programs and/or wait-lists.

You will receive a separate email explaining the lottery results for each Magnet Program your student is eligible for. Students may only accept a seat in one Magnet Program. Accepting a seat in one program automatically declines your seat(s) in the other program(s).

Students should not consider their friends’ choice when deciding to accept or decline a seat.

In the past, students have declined seats to a Magnet Program because they did not believe that their friend would get into the same program, only to have their friends move up on a waitlist and be offered a seat. The decision to be accept or decline a seat should be a personal decision between applicants and their family.

Students may elect to temporarily accept a seat in one program and remain on the waitlist in another program.

Students who are eligible for multiple programs may have received a seat in one program and be placed on the waiting list in another program. These students may accept both seats until noon,Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Soon after this date, these students will be contacted to choose only one seat. The choices of these students will continue to affect the movement of the waitlist.

Your decision to decline a seat on a Wait-List or in a program is final.

When a student declines his or her seat in a program or on a wait-list, the Magnet Office will immediately offer that seat to the next applicant on the wait list.

Students who accept their seat in a Magnet Program are required to attend the Welcome and Registration Night at their Magnet Program School.

Students and their family only need to attend one Welcome and Registration Night at their Magnet Program School.

If your student is offered placement in either the STEM or BMAH and has not already completed Algebra I or does not earn a C (70.0%) or better, your seat is provisional based on successful completion of the summer magnet algebra I course.

Please know that their acceptance into the program will be provisional upon successful completion of this Summer Magnet Algebra Course with a B (80.0%) or better in the course and a C (70.0%) or better on the exam. Failure to complete the course successfully as described above, which includes sitting for the Algebra HSA, will automatically remove your student from the accepted students list and the next student on the waiting list will be offered the seat.

Non-accredited private school students must take and pass the AACPS Algebra I Final Exam with a C (70.0%) or better, or successfully complete the Summer Magnet Algebra I course.

Students who do not meet the criteria listed above will not be eligible to accept offers in the  STEM or the BMAH Magnet Program for the 2012-2013 school year and will need to enroll at their home school.

If your student is offerec placement in IB Middle Years/Diploma Programme (9-12) and has not already completed level 1 of a world language, your acceptance is provisional upon successful completeion of the following conditions:

If your student is offered placement in the IB Middle Years/Diploma Programme (9-12) and they are currently enrolled in level 1 of a world language, please know that their acceptance into the program will be provisional upon the student’s  successful completion of that course with a C (70.0%) or better, taking and passing the Anne Arundel County Public Schools final exam for level 1 of Italian, French, Spanish or Chinese with a grade C (70.0%) or better  and enroll in level 2 of Italian, French, Spanish or Chinese for the 2012-2013 school year.  Failure to successfully complete the course as described above will automatically remove your student from the accepted students list and the next student on the wait-list will be offered the seat.

Students who do not meet the criteria listed above will not be eligible to accept offers in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma Programme for the 2012-2013 school year and will need to enroll at their home school.

Please know that while there are many similarities between our Magnet Programs there are some differences.  Therefore, students will receive a letter for each program to which they applied outlining their eligibility status.

Congratulations again on your acceptance to this AACPS Magnet Program! Please complete the Magnet Program Accepted Student Commitment form by Tuesday, February  7, to reserve your seat for the 2012-2013 school year.
