The Thing About Chalk Art

Chalk Art is doing art with chalk (you don’t say!)

If you search “Chalk Art” in google you will find an array of stunning pseudo three dimensional optical illusion drawings on the streets. But that’s not the kind of chalk art that I’m here to talk about.

I’m talking about the “Typographic Chalk Art”. Yes, like the ones usually displayed on cafes and coffee shops.

I have a friend whose passionate in this kind of chalk art. His name is Pambudi Yoga. He’s a graphic designer, photographer and most recently, a letterer. He is just like me but he took a slightly different path in lettering style. I went for the ambigram route, and he went for the chalk arts.

His style—in my opinion—are very much inspired by the works of Dana Tanamachi and Admira Pustika.

In December 2012, I took some photos of him in action. Here there are:

The artworks went on display for two weeks in the “Sisi Lain Bumi Exhibition.”

I think, Pambudi had done a wonderful job. We shall wait for his other artworks in the future. Keep chalking!
