The moment we went out of our school gates with medals and awards, we believed that we are going to be professionals hereafter, after-all we are going to do professional education. I could recollect my first day witnessing my peers coming in proper dressings. New shirts, properly pressed and never these shirts were neither pressed nor washed again.

We were given with room number 8, block 2. It seemed Dr.Prince (F/O Mr.Deepak) lived in the same room. Another funda, there was a suicide some years back in the same place. Shock! Day 0: Myself, Naren and Kumba were waiting for the 4^th member to enter. Came a big fat giant. The first moment we three felt,”OMG! We have to live with him for the next one year”. Later we realized we were wrong. He is a fun filled guy. The name is Chethan. We had stomach full tomato biryani in the night. Just within an hour, I vomited J. Before I entered my classes, I went to Health Centre. It was a first time hostel experience for most of us. We bunked our classes to sleep and played Dumb Charades, Cards, Chess in the nights. Birthday celebrations were the most interesting part. We used to pile one over other on the cots and were able to break up 5. End result :: We had no chairs to sit. We had to keep them beneath to balance the cots.
Some more things to remember in Block 2 :: Mobile phone ban, RC Sivasankar ( We met him at IIT Kharagpur later), Robotics, Sparks night, Deepak’s Flute, Kumba Stores, Sanjeev’s drawings, Paapa’s sudokus, Chethan’s white trousers, Sanjeev’s perfect ten, Waves Rs.1000, Brainscan, Binary Search, Politics, late night sleeps.

EDC fever :
It’s a lesson I learnt. Never shout about staffs in public places. I was caught a couple of times and finally ended with an E grade in my first electronics paper. Huh! I am pretty sure she knows less than me about electronics.

Later we moved to Block 3 and it is the place where became even more notorious. The treat culture started. We started spending time on what we were really interested in. Who cares about marks? We had them enough in our schooling. This time, we got a fever which is still living. K! I was in room number 30 and if they have announced something like Worst Room Award probably we would have won it. Once my uncle paid a visit and showed a different room as mine. Some things to remember :: Google Xpress, Sci-tech Quiz, Vandaloor picnic, 15 GB **** collection, laptops, Shaastra.

Struggle with Signals and Systems

A clean U grade. Thanks to PVR. The funnier side is he did not give my second and third assess papers. So I met him after the results to know my assessment marks. He handed over the papers. They were 1.5 and 1 each out of 20.

Third and Fourth years were just blinks. We got matured in pranking and having fun. Everyone chose the path they wanted to travel. It was so amazing to see the potentials in every individual. In the fourth year I had to stay in block 4 which was the same block my sister’s father-in-law stayed in the 1970s. The campus had a lot of renovations. The entrance was beautified, new smart cards, better restrooms at hostels, WiFi, projectors and emergency lamps in classes.

Fun during Exams :
Dei! From next semester, we have to prepare properly.
God! This time alone. Please, help me.
Diarrhea for a few (can’t reveal the names :P )
If I have 2 more hours, I will finish it off better.
Scolding the staffs.
De, leave it off. We will write next semester.
20 minutes sleep.

May 9, 2009 the day, we were been announced as the cores of Kurukshetra 2010. It was a mixture of pride, responsibility and fear. Will we able be to keep up the vision thats been accomplished over the past?

With over 12 teams, the task we had to do was no simple. The corporates just coined a carp "recession", we had to work some strategies to keep us in the top. Huge amount of planning and time was invested into it. Then the substance of Kurukshetra 2010. The publicity, logistics and every single person had the potential of delivering great results. There were times that awed us. Just an incident to cite

A junior called up and said his online event has witnessed participation from 75 countries.

Our sponsor core just opened the price money excel sheet.

He just added a zero at the last for that event and the final sum was just 50,000.

Everyone asked how could he do that.

"Issue closed. The price for that event is going to be Rs.50,000."

Never before we spent Rs.45,000 in a second :)

All these happened in the absence of our hopeless finance core.

This is the time I came to understand the meaning of

Management terms like productivity, information and data management, analytics and all these helped in

baffling people

Making people to work for your self rather than for the organisation

What could ignite a mind and what not

Everyone who worked has his own learnings and things to pop out his collars. There may be thousands of accomplishments as an individual but the satisfaction of doing a work as a team gives the joy and pushes to do more. The day started with Harish waking up me in the early morning at 10 AM. Quite unusual! But i could clearly understand the fact that he needs something out of me. Harish is my sister's son. He is a 6 year old boy. Screamed Crackers! Crackers! Somehow i was able to convince him to go in the night and went to bed again.

Damalal! Dumil! Surr! Buzz! Ayan Pattasukal.

The typical ad that strikes in most people's mind. Yes!

Finally we started moving and all the way he was explaining me all sorts of crackers he knew, he dreamt. Sometimes Children are the best Innovators. They have no boundaries in their thoughts. Entering into the world of crackers, he was not able to control himself. I just spent sometime listening to him. He had his own explanations for each type of crackers. This is what a child could see.

Coming to me, guess what i would have noticed. :P

Aishwariya Rai is the most dominating figure in the cracker packs. I wonder what's the relation between Aishwariya, Children and Crackers. May be the manufacturers would have printed it so that some fathers would prefer to choose those boxes. Some other prominent figures are Amitabh, Monalisa, Trisha. Clueless! Particularly trisha was dominating in the Wala packs. After all these observations i got the price list. Here is the twist. Chakkars were in the top of the list. Here is the chakkars list.

“Hi Anna! I am interested in working for Kurukshetra. But what can I do? How am I going to get benefited?” The typical question asked by a junior to the core team members of Kurukshetra. Most people usually get a convincing reply though.

Lesson 1: Web experience

I was lucky enough to do the design and functionality of Kurukshetra’s website. It seems to be simple and yes it is. With more than 2,00,000 views the site has, my prime focus was on user friendliness. Thinking for a while the fact that made me WOW was, this is the only way by which my work could reach more than 2 lakh people in this world. Being a non-techie the amount of information of I learnt in web-designing is decent. You need to know the index of a book rather than what is inside the book.

Lesson 2: Online tools

Google provides a Google docs feature. A popular one, yet I was able to realize only after using it. Maintaining online docs and sharing, editing is much simpler than before. Mail client is another popular thing that is not used among the student community. With more than 300 mails a month, and most of the time being offline, mail client has become my diary, book, biography. Getting professional!

Lesson 3: Networking

It’s rare to see people having more than 25 friends online in gtalk whenever they login. With more than 600 contacts in mobile, not just friends, business men too, following up everyone is a big deal though. NetworKing!

Lesson 4: My recent STD & ISD calls

“Hello! Am I speaking to Mr. Anil Kumble? This is Senthil calling from Anna University India….” He replied, “Ya, speaking.” Conversation goes…

Goosebumps! Adrenalin just rushes up and my phone bill too.

It's On!

Kurukshetra 2010 : Moving on to fourth edition of the Battle of Brains. Yes, the coming soon site is up. As everyone wished, the coming soon site has to come soon :) And it has. Simple, clean and black. I just can't wait for the launch of this site. Once it was launched, i just pinged everyone in my chat list and asked them to set their status message as www.kurukshetra.org.in Yeah a kinda marketing. Some changed to my request and some did not, yet they checked out the site. And that is also a marketing. Solves our purpose. And one could not tolerate this and he started marketing what I did :) the BIG man. And it's a mention that K10 is up and S08 is still going on :)

Microsoft...yes,It's always contradictory to say about this corporate giant.Some say they are good at product sales and distribution,bad at innovation and well known for not knowing the needs of the people.Just an example the minimum requirements for XP is 64 MB RAM and 1.5 GB hard disk space.and the requirements for vista are 512 MB RAM and 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space.Lol! Do we enjoy using vista 8 times that of XP.Making things complex than before.

www.microsoft - The site which witnessed poor ratings because of its poor user interface is finally revamped.Seriously it's a good attempt.Atleast after 10 years they could read people's mind.And Microsoft is now "trying" to make people use whatever they are releasing.Silverlight is an alternative to flash and browsing microsoft.com without it, is sick and using browsing with siverlight is also sick.Except the fact that Microsoft won't ask you to install silverlight 2.0,not much difference.The user interface is lot more better.Hats off! The worst thing is compatibility.

"No, they aren’t animated characters. They are human beings who were made to wear body suits. “The design of the characters is such that one gets fooled into thinking it is animation,” shrugs Rao, which was indeed the very illusion that had to be created. “In a sense, it is ‘live’ animation!” he quips, referring to the fact that it was all shot live.

Prakash Varma, ad filmmaker, Nirvana Films, has directed the commercials, and reveals that the Zoozoos were a big challenge to create. The practical aspects of how they will move, talk, gesticulate and emote were very important. Essentially, costume design and artwork were crucial elements.

“It took me three weeks of pre-production to understand how it will work,” says Varma. There were two fabrics that were considered for the body suits, and one was rejected for it had too many wrinkles and was shiny. The wrinkles would have shown when the characters moved, thereby shattering the illusion of animation. “So we chose the more practical, thicker fabric,” Varma explains.

The production team divided the outfit into two parts: the body and the head. The body part of the outfit was stuffed with foam in some places, while the head was attached separately. To make it look bigger than a human head, a harder material called Perspex was used, which in turn was stuffed with foam (with scope for ventilation).

If one wishes to understand the size of this head, here’s a fact: a human head would typically reach up to the mouth level of this giant Zoozoo head. “We kept the hands and legs thin, which is why we cast women – and occasionally children – wearing the costumes,” says Varma. The thin limbs, contrasted with big bellies and a bulbous head, all add to the illusion that these creatures are ‘smaller’ than humans. Sets were created to suit the size of the Zoozoos.
Cinematically, this ‘size’ was a trick: the creatures look smaller than they actually are on screen, to portray a different world of sorts. For this, the speed of shooting was altered: Nirvana shot it in a high-speed format to make them look the size that they do.
Furthermore, simple sets/backdrops were created and spray painted with neutral Greys – a colour of choice so that attention isn’t diverted from the main characters. For a supposedly ‘outdoor’ shot, even the shadow of a Zoozoo was kept ‘live’ and not done in post production: it was painted in a darker shade of grey on the ground. An even lighting was maintained throughout.
There was virtually no post production work done.
The films were shot by Nirvana in Cape Town, South Africa, with the help of a local production house there, called Platypus. Incidentally, the same combination of people also worked on the ‘Happy to Help’ series last year. When asked whether Cape Town is fast becoming a tourist spot for Vodafone and Nirvana, Varma laughs, saying, “Oh no! It’s just that we are very comfortable with the team there and know what sort of work to expect from them.”
Nagpal adds here that the production cost had to be minimal for unveiling such a large number of commercials. “Otherwise, our production costs would exceed media spends,” he quips."

This is for those who ask me "why did u take ECE da?"....I was wondering myself that i have spent one tenth of my life in electronics and communication.Seems to be interesting and challenging to spend 3-4 years with so called the best brains of tamil nadu(including me :) ) This has made me to think different,enjoy myself in doing things that are beyond the education system.Of course,for everyone...These thoughts just arised when i was designing a card.And i came up with a good logo.

I have overlapped a white circle with an opacity of 20 percent

Cut off some part of the white circle.This effect is used in many modern logos such as windows vista...

And finally the reflection effect...my favorite one.It's simple to do
1.create another copy of the image whose reflection image has to be obtained.
2.Invert that image(vertically)
3.Set the opacity to around 25 percent
4.Use the eraser tool for further smoothening

It's simple.clean and good looking.I just wanted to keep some name for this logo.See there is some electronics stuff in the design, so i named it as " The symbol of Vetti Velai". :) Happy reading.

It's one of the magnificient ads in the recent times.The ad starts with a man,Rahul K arriving at the airport and a huge group of characters is welcoming him with a bang! Ballet Dancers,kathakali dancers,cartoon characters,eskimos,unnoticingly a Vuper man stands near the ballet dancers(yeah check it out :) ),WWF characters,bharathanaatium dancers and the list goes on.The Rock band adrenalizes the action.Actor Sudha Chandran is in the soap opera genre;Raju Srivastav is in his usual role of a comedian;VJ Ranvijay Singh is in his Youth icon style and the action is stolen by the rich pair Madhavan& Vidya Balan,Maddy calls an extravagant Benz car with the typical indian whistle and the couple accompany Rahul in the car and a sign of relief is shown in his face.Then Zaheer,Gamphir and some others representing sports other than cricket welcome him into the lift.Then its the time for the sizzling Kareena to carry on the action.The Almighty ARR drive our nerves with his airtel tune and Saif rocks with the new rocking version of the Airtel tune,this one is the best of all. .

Certainly Airtel will have an edge over Big Dth with thi$ Ad.

Well! This is a poster designed by me for a print ad competition.The topic given was "Space Tourism". For those who are very much interested in learning photoshop,here is a small tutorial.

Do it yourself! It's your first ad design :)

1) First create a black background.

This is done using the PAINT BUCKET TOOL.

2)Then a moon pic is inserted.

Adjust the brightness and contrast of this pic.

3) Then an earth picture is taken and placed in the top left corner.

6)Then type the details that have to be put up.I have used CALIBRI font here.

7) Then some dancing people pics are taken from this pic and inserted.

8) And I leave the logo for you to work out.Its pretty simple.
