Kenneth “Do what thou wilt, shall be the whole of the law.” Anger, the 83-year old director, artist and living legend of avant garde awesome cinema, has directed a film for Missoni’s Fall-Winter 2010 campaign. The soundtrack is by current cult fashion favourite and allround mystery man Koudlam. So Missoni’s ad roster for 2010 now reads: Juergen Teller, Kenneth Anger, Koudlam. Not too shabby.

We took the lil one (5) to see the ‘The Karate Kid’ remake.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, plus our mornings have been a lot quieter ever since as she has been faithfully practising “The Cobra” after brushing her teeth…

Then my bestie stayed over because thank god some of my friends actually have holidays so they can come and entertain my dazed & confused self  at the end of these gruesome working hours.

Can’t complain though, I have been working with the people I most respect in the business so it’s all good.

So yeah, back to the above video : Annie Lennox = love.

Is it the cheap silk blowing in the wind, the sword fighting, the acting? I don’t know, but I love this thing!

Now, I wasn’t thinking about picking up some early 1970’s Nigerian psychedlica today. But these three little nuggets from the new ‘The World Ends’ compilation that dropped yesterday sure got my mouth watering. With all these summer mixtapes dropping like tired old flies, this unexpected gem is my favourite find so far.

I was watching a documentary on Front242 the other day: same old mishmash of old footage and talking heads, really. One of those talking heads belonged to Luc Van Acker (a true raconteur: a man of a thousand stories – someone give this guy a book deal already!). In between anecdotes (”Front 242 said they wanted to kill the audience. I didn’t know it was a metaphor so on my first gig with them I jumped into the audience and started whacking people with my guitar. I didn’t look up until I stopped at the PA, where the sound guy was looking at me, stunned by confusion and fear.”) he started naming good Belgian bands playing in the post-punk era. Turns out there’s a lot of them. Good stuff, too. And as it turns out, there’s a growing scene hunting those lost tracks down. Brooklyn label SoftSpot has just released “We Live in a System” by the short-lived Belgian band Kebab. You can have the cult classic ‘Life, it’s a joke’ for free.
