The annual Community Design Center downtown tour/fundraiser is returning to the 100 Block of Gay Street after a long vacation to the 500 Block. The CDC is a wonderful organization that brings together professional services (for example landscape architecture) and non-profit organizations like neighborhood associations. North Hills 2012 Plant Sale this Saturday!

Make plans to hit the North Hills Garden Club annual perennial sale this Saturday from 10am – 2pm. A map of the park where the sale is held can be found here. Knoxvillager has had a lot of luck in years past at this sale getting great plants at fabulous prices – the key is to arrive early. Happy plant shopping!

Oakwood Elementary to be sold to developer

Good news for this old school in the Oakwood-Lincoln Park neighborhood – developer Wayne Blasius and a non-profit called Family Pride will be purchasing the dilapidated Oakwood Elementary and repurposing it as an assisted living facility. There will be a great deal of money spent on environmental mitigation, to say nothing of what will then be spent on readying it for its new residents; getting this building cleaned up and occupied is a huge benefit for the Oakwood-Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Island Home wins best neighborhood!

Mark your calendar for this years Perennial Plant Sale!

Saturday, April 28th from 10 am to 2 pm.

Last year we had a HUGE crowd from all over Knox County and beyond. This Plant Sale a “featured” event in the Dogwoods Arts Calendar and has become one of the areas ‘must do’ sales for gardeners in this area.

Our perennials are harvested from our own well established gardens right here in North Hills ensuring their hardiness for this region. We also hand pick many beautiful annuals from local businesses to bring more color to the sale.

Eat Play Live Knoxville Conference – save the date!

The Knox County Health Department is sponsoring a conference on Saturday, March 10 at the new L&N STEM Academy that is focused on real ways we can get healthier right here in Knoxville. There will be three areas of focus at the conference: 1) Grow Food Yourself – Options for Your Space, 2) Outdoor Action – Active Neighborhoods and Safer Streets, and 3) Farm to Fork – Local Farm Choices. Eat Play Live Knoxville will be from 8:15am-2pm and light breakfast and lunch will be served. For more information and to sign up, go here in early February.
