My latest painting titled “Chicken $#!T” is drying.

It is acrylic on 24″x24″ gallery wrapped canvas. Not quite sure if I am done yet. May add more texture and shading.

For right now I am going to just sit on it. Leaving on vacation in two days.

NEW PAINTING…

I finished my latest painting titled “Cockeyed.” It is acrylic and mixed media on a 56″x56″ steel canvas. I had Idaho Steel make the canvas to resemble a 1.5″ gallery wrapped canvas. It weighs 62 pounds.

66 cans of empty Campbell’s soup cans were used in this creation. I glued magnets in the inside. Glued the lids back on. Spray painted them silver to get rid of the Campbell’s soup logo on top. Then created a label in Adobe’s Photoshop, had 80 labels printed, hand cut the labels and then attached them with adhesive spray.

I call this interactive art. Some day I would love to have an entire show with interactive art. Would be a lot of fun!!!

My friend Steve Smede and former colleague at Harris Publishing, Inc., produced a video on me and wrote an article for Idaho Falls magazine’s website. I think they are going to publish a printed story in the May/June issue too!

Steve did a great job. His passion shows; he is such a talented writer, photographer and videographer. The promotional piece is about my upcoming art show at the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho called “Collective Whimsy” from April 19 to June 16, 2012. Check it out…

NEW WEBSITE…

It is official. Today I launched Cockeyed Art’s website. It may be a little premature, but at least it is running.

This week I am getting 11″x14″ reproduction prints and 5″x7″ greeting cards made. These should be available by April 1, 2o12. The cards will come in sets of 6 with two different sets available. Original art is also for sale, but is not available until after my show, Collective Whimsy, at the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho (TAM), which ends on June 16, 2012. In the near future I’d like to offer my chick magnet, key chain and other knick-knacks.

Custom size and material reproduction prints will also be available. Papers, canvas, stretched canvas and aluminum prints in all different sizes. Please let me know your needs.

If you get a chance, check out my new website. Unfortunately, it does not work on ipads. Please let me know if you encounter any other bugs or have suggestions to improve it. I would really appreciate it.

NEW LOGO…

My art business name was going to be Primarily Color, but that domain name is already taken. So, we started brainstorming. My wife and better half came up with Cockeyed Art, which fits my art perfectly and the domain name was available. I designed a logo using my existing Kort Duce Photography logo as the background. I love the KD design that my graphic artist friend Dayne Dingman designed in 2004. This logo was faded in opacity and then I added my color palette from my paintings as the colors for the name. My business font in Avenir. Adding the crooked “E” really makes it cockeyed. In the near future I’ll launch Cockeyed Art’s website and product line including my original paintings. Greeting Cards, Chick Magnets, Cocktail Napkins, Reproduction Prints, Original Paintings and hopefully Chick Panties and Cock-A-Roos underwear for men. Lots of work to do!

T-SHIRT DESIGN FOR UPCOMING SHOW…

I designed a t-shirt for my upcoming show at the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho which runs from April 19, 2012 to June 16, 2012.

My friend Roy Dean Dye mentioned the old adage “feed a cold and starve a flu” in a facebook post. I thought I’d play with those words and make a shirt with my chicken soup painting. Hopefully it does not cost too much to produce. I’ll keep you posted on the price…

“Chicken Fried Steak” is acrylic and mixed media on a 48″x48″ gallery wrapped canvas.

The “Chick Magnet” is made from poly clay. Baked and painted with acrylic. Same with the egg.

Wine Sommelier…

I am almost finished with “Wine Sommelier.” It is acrylic and mixed media on 48″x48″ gallery wrapped canvas. Last night I added metal buttons with heavy body acrylic paint as the binder. Last week I ordered a name tag with “Pierre” on it from the local trophy store. Once this is done I’ll attach it. I was thinking of making a larger than life tie, but I would like to move on to another painting.

I painted “Wine Sommelier” so I could design wine labels to place on bottles for my art opening at The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho (TAM). My friend has crafted wine from grapes imported from France for years. At the reception on April 19, 2012, from 7-9 p.m. we are having Rooster Wine, Chicken Wine, appetizers (chicken skewers!), and different desserts. Should be a grand time.

Once I get my labels designed in Adobe’s Photoshop I will make a test print, adhere it to a bottle and post it on my blog.

In the mean time I better get back to taking pictures and painting!!!

FREE RANGE CHICKEN…

I finished my latest painting titled “Free Range Chicken.” It is acrylic on 60″x48″ gallery wrapped canvas.

The 1960 Dodge pickup in the painting is owned by my wife’s cousin Brian Rolston from Forsyth, Montana. Most of my paintings use my aunt Barb Rolston’s Triangle Ranch and Castle Butte as their backdrop. My father-in-law Alan has fond memories of this truck. The license plate is the actual plating. 29 stands for Rosebud County, Montana and the 1960 in self explanatory.
