BECKETT STORMS TO VICTORY

Michael Beckett was victorious in the WAITROSE LICHFIELD HALF MARATHON yesterday, a feat made all the more memorable as it was his first ever race over the distance!

Beckett (pictured) was in a small group of 4 who split off from the main field at around the 5 mile mark but then he broke clear in the last mile and came home to the cheers of the large crowd on Stowe Field. He was very complimentary of the event and how it was organized:

“I’d trained very hard to prepare but I couldn’t believe how well I ran. I’d like to thank all of the organisers, supporters and runners for creating a great atmosphere and coming out on a lovely Sunday morning to make it such a wonderful event.”

First female athlete home was Amanda Deavy (pictured) of Northbrook AC.

“It was good to see the community of Lichfield out in such big numbers, it was a really well organised event with a fantastic atmosphere at the finish on Stowe Field. We hope we can be involved again in 2013 to make the event even bigger and better.”

Kevin Wilson of organisers KP Events was also pleased with the success of the event:

“We were very lucky with the weather which helped but the running community came together with the non-running community to make the day truly special and memorable for all who took part and watched the event. The police were wonderful in helping make it a safe event, and we raised money on the day for the WELOVELICHFIELD FUND which helps a number of good causes in the city – which is brilliant too.”

We’re back in the popular Sutton Park venue for our third year and our second with our friends as sponsors Alpha Sports in Lichfield, a sports shop that understands the needs and requirements of runners. You can now register for this event.

Last year, when warm weather was forecast we rerouted the course to take in the more shaded and wooded areas of the Park which afforded runners less contact with direct sunlight and we’ll stay with this course this year as your feedback to was so positive.

Sutton Park is a popular venue  especially in the summer months so be aware of other park users at all times and remember the Park has wildlife roaming free including cattle, and there will be lots of walkers, cyclists and dogs.

Help raise money for charity (Star Support and Counselling)

Take part in the 2012 BII charity fun run – 10k and 5k, 1st July, in Sutton Park. Walk Jog or Run.

KP Events is working with the Birmingham Insurance Institute to help them establish this annual event as a key fund raiser for a very good local cause.

• Children aged 14-16 can take part in the Fun Run, but must have consent from a parent or guardian, which may be checked by the event organisers – and have given an emergency phone number to the event organisers at registration.
• Parents/guardians must be aware of the demands of this activity, and that they alone can make the decision about the ability of the child to complete the activity. Arrangements to get to and from the event are wholly the responsibility of the parent or guardian. The parent or guardian must take responsibility for the safety of the child and make every effort to cause no risk to other participants.
• Any person aged 16 and over may take part in the 5K or 10K.
• Participants must agree to pay the £8 or £12 application fee (dependent upon which run you are entering, 5K or 10K respectively) upon registration to this event. The fee/money raised are non-refundable and will be donated to charity in the event you are unable to attend, after signing up for the event.
• Participants must agree that they are in good physical condition and that the Birmingham Insurance Institute and Star Support take no liability for injuries or ill health resulting from, or exacerbated by, participation in this event.
• Prior and during the event, participants shall be responsible for their own safety and welfare and will take all reasonable care to ensure the safety of others and will comply promptly with any safety or other instructions given by the event organisers or those helping.
• Participants should take responsibility for dressing appropriately for the route and for the weather conditions including clothing and footwear. Should you choose to wear any sort of ‘fancy dress’, you should ensure it does not impede your vision or pose any other threat to your health or safety (e.g. dehydration)
• Although organisers will make every effort to supply necessary refreshments at stages on the route, it is advised that participants bring something to drink and eat.
• The Birmingham Insurance Institute and Star Support cannot be held responsible for personal injury, accident, loss, damage or public liability during the event howsoever caused. All participants enter the event entirely at their own risk.
• Participants accept that the organisers may, at any time during or before the event, terminate their participation if it is considered necessary for the health and safety of other participants, and/or themselves or if they commit an illegal act.
• Participants undertake to take notice of, and abide by, any further instructions or restrictions sent to them by the event organisers and should comply with the route signage and not deviate from the agreed route.
• Should any incident occur along the route, or before or after, participants must report this immediately to an event representative; and comply with any instructions given.
• The event organisers reserve the right to refuse participation by any individual; and to cancel or postpone the event completely for all participants on safety grounds at any time.
• Participants must agree to make every effort to collect the sponsorship monies as far as they are able and pay them over promptly in full to the Birmingham Insurance Institute for onward transmission to Star Support. To be considered for the prize for raising the most sponsorship, all money must be received by the Birmingham Insurance Institute by 14th September 2012.
• Money donated to your Just Giving sponsorship page will be passed directly into the charity’s bank account. This cuts down on paperwork and makes the process of handling donations extremely efficient.
• The Birmingham Insurance Institute’s and Star Support’s decision to award any prizes and trophies will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
• The organisers are committed to protecting the privacy of people entering the event. In order to manage and administer the event, the organisers must collect personal information on those people wishing to take part. This information includes Name, Age, Address, Email and Mobile Phone Number.
• By opting in to this, participants are allowing the Birmingham Insurance Institute and Star Support to use your name and any footage or photograph(s) taken of you on the event day as part of its publications, promotion and advertising etc within the UK.

The Cancer Research UK super hero charity running event will be held in Sutton Park on Sunday September 16th 2012 10.30 a.m

Is there a Superhero in your family? Do you have the powers to take on a 9km run, scramble under a cargo net, avoid a soaking and sprint through a field of foam? – Whilst dressed as a Superhero? More importantly – want to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK whilst doing so?

The 2nd annual run in aid of Cancer Research UK, get dressed up as your favourite Superhero (or Heroine) or invent and dress your own original Superhero (or Heroine) and win a special prize. The race will start and finish in the beautiful grounds surrounding Tamworth Castle and will wind its way through the grounds out into the town before following a section along the canal in Fazeley before returning to the Castle Grounds. KP Events have worked closely with Tamworth Borough Council in bringing this race back to the town. Race start time is 10.30am. The start area is near the Pavilion.

Tamworth Castle, Tamworth, Staffordshire

• Tamworth Castle Pleasure Grounds: The Holloway, Lady Bank, Tamworth B79 7NA, GB from M42 Junction 10 (Tamworth Services) take the A5 North to Tamworth A51 Junction. At Ventura retail Park go straight on at the roundabout towards the town centre and Follow the event signs. From the A38 take the A5 South to Tamworth A51 Junction. At Ventura Retail Park go straight on at the first roundabout and follow event signs.
• Public Transportation: Nearest railway station – Tamworth. Tamworth station is well served by trains from London and the north-west with London Midland. Book online at http://www.londonmidland.com/ and you’ll pay no booking fees or postage. The station is just a 10 minute walk from the castle.
• Parking: There are a number of car parks in Tamworth town centre. The brown Tamworth castle signs direct drivers to the Jolly Sailor car park. This is a large long stay car park with coach park facilities. It is a short 5-7 minute walk through the castle grounds to the castle. The short stay Holloway car park is a smaller car park but closer to the castle, it is located on Silver Street. Please use these car parks and do not park on the local streets.

KP Events is looking to help Lichfield District Council find 100 volunteers to help with marshalling a range of cultural and sporting events to celebrate the torch visiting our district, for example – Cars in The Park, The Lichfield Dash, Stowe Pool Aquathlon, etc. See list of events. The 10k is an approximate distance due to the nature of the course and is a two lap race following a route that is mainly off road through magnificent scenery. Two laps of footpaths, grass tracks and a short tarmac section twisting around the lakes and pools of the water park, with a section alongside the river. Race start time is 10.30am.
