Ran the Xtreme Challenge for the first time today and really enjoyed it. I have run The Beast and the Hellrunner in the past and thought your event was more fun. The only downside was that there were no catering facilities, a hot drink afterwards would have been welcome. A very well organised event! Fiona Hamilton

Can I say what a brilliant event you put on yesterday. Having only ever done road races previously I thought it was tough and challenging but well worth doing. Boy was that water cold… I will definitely be doing it again. Many Thanks, Malcolm Ward.

My first ever “race” of this type and really enjoyed it. It was tough but great fun even being chest deep in water. The snow added an extra dimension, which if anything improved the event. The location was very picturesque. The only niggles I had were, nowhere near enough toilet or changing facilities and it would have been nice for a caterer to have been present. All in all a very positive experience which no doubt I will return to in 2013. John Hanson.

Great fun – I am having fun posting pictures of different bruises on Facebook – seems every time I look at my legs a new one has appeared – I am wearing them with pride! Beautiful location.
Would be great if there was a tea/coffee van available as our supporters were parched and ideally a halfway water station of some sort. Will be back next year. Heidi Elliott

Thank you KP events for putting on this event. I entered with a friend and I have never enjoyed a run more. In fact I have never done a run where there were screams of horror, joy, swearing and grunting as we all hurled ourselves up and down the course. Thanks to everyone involved in making this event possible, this is the second year I have done it, last years was good but the snow and ice this year made it even more enjoyable. A big thank you goes out to all the marshalls who were so encouraging on such a freezing day. Scenery was lovely and course was brilliantly testing, everyone taking part got into the spirit of it being a fun event. Looking forward to next year. Phil Smith.

I have now ran the Fradley 10km, the Lichfield half marathon and on Sunday i ran the Xtreme Challenge and i have been very impressed with the high standard of organisation in all three events. you deserve a pat on the back and a sweetie from the jar!! Doug Hamilton

Brilliant event! The first 2 minutes when everyone was sliding back down the slope because of the snow had me in stitches. Then going in the freezing cold water knocked out any laughter I had left in me! A week later, my cuts and scrapes have almost healed over… and I feel like I want to do it all over again! Thanks to the organisers and marshalls for putting on such a fun and challenging event! D Wan.

The Xtreme Challenge held on Sunday February 5th at the Catton Hall Estate near Alrewas attracted a field of 200+ entrants and the arctic conditions caused by up to 3 inches of snow on the Saturday before only served to encourage more effort and human bravado from the exertions of the hardy runners that took part.

The course, an approximate 10k in length consisted of a 2 lap circuit of the estate grounds and was made up of steep gradients, deadly declines, wicked man-made obstacles more suited for equine athletes, tunnels, 12 foot high hay bales, icy water that saw some athletes have to virtually skate over, but as things ‘warmed up’ others had to wade through up to their chests and all laced with that magic ingredient… deep snow!!

First person home was Uttoxeter RR athlete Robert Hall, second last year but now triumphant in a time of 39:15, the only sub 40 min runner in the field. He was chased home by Alistair Gorrie who finished in 40:29 with Jacob Fry coming in third in 41.21.

First of the many women taking part was Stafford Triathlon Club’s Jen Seager in 50:49 who finished in front of Hallamshire Harriers’ Emily Morton in 52:46 with Joanna Rooney third in 53:24. A special well done to Dan Gibson aged 13, who came 29th!

Kevin Wilson (of organisers KP Events) was delighted with such a good turn out on such a bitterly cold and snowy morning:
“On Saturday night before as the blizzard raged we thought did we want to postpone it but people were calling, texting, emailing us and everyone said to carry on with it if we could, it was after all an Xtreme event, and boy the challenge was Xtreme indeed. We are seriously looking at another similar but even more extreme event at the same venue, so watch this space”

Tamworth Castle, Tamworth, Staffordshire

• Tamworth Castle Pleasure Grounds: The Holloway, Lady Bank, Tamworth B79 7NA, GB from M42 Junction 10 (Tamworth Services) take the A5 North to Tamworth A51 Junction. At Ventura retail Park go straight on at the roundabout towards the town centre and Follow the event signs. From the A38 take the A5 South to Tamworth A51 Junction. At Ventura Retail Park go straight on at the first roundabout and follow event signs.
• Public Transportation: Nearest railway station – Tamworth. Tamworth station is well served by trains from London and the north-west with London Midland. Book online at http://www.londonmidland.com/ and you’ll pay no booking fees or postage. The station is just a 10 minute walk from the castle.
• Parking: There are a number of car parks in Tamworth town centre. The brown Tamworth castle signs direct drivers to the Jolly Sailor car park. This is a large long stay car park with coach park facilities. It is a short 5-7 minute walk through the castle grounds to the castle. The short stay Holloway car park is a smaller car park but closer to the castle, it is located on Silver Street. Please use these car parks and do not park on the local streets.

Still using the experience and expertise of Ciaron Ford, a practicing Army Fitness Training Instructor with over 10 years experience working with our other REPs qualified Personal Trainers, we are busy preparing our winter programme which will be announced via the website soon.

Sessions will continue to be on Sunday mornings 10.30am – 11.30am meeting on Stowe Field in Lichfield when Ciaron and other team members will be present to explain and demonstrate what is on offer and this will then be followed by weekend/weekday evening lo-cost sessions at Catton Hall Estate near Alrewas, just off the A38 north of Lichfield, and other venues in and around the city plus moving the initiative into Tamworth in early 2012 too. Your first session is free, subsequent sessions costs will be announced soon

KP Events have been invited by Lichfield District Council to help celebrate this once in a lifetime event as the Olympic Torch passes through the district. Plans are being drawn up for a day of celebrations, so look out for updates on this website, at www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/2012 and also in local press and media, for how you can help to celebrate this exciting day.

The Xtreme Challenge 2012

Start time is 10.30am on Sunday 5th Feb 2012. The venue is Catton Hall Estate once again and this 10k Xtreme Challenge is a different level of cross country running with natural obstacles, man made obstacles, water features, beautiful views of the local countryside. Expect the Unexpected! You can enter this event now.

Catton Hall is a private country house with acres of parkland along the River Trent, a perfect location for large outdoor events, caravan rallies, equestrian events, mountain bike rallies as well as corporate hospitality, team building days, and product launches.

LOCAL DIRECTIONS

Leave the A38 at the Alrewas Junction and take the A513 towards TAMWORTH. Follow this road for 1 mile to the Railway Bridge. Turn left IMMEDIATELY after this Railway Bridge. Catton Hall is 1.5 miles along this road on the left, shortly after the Lodge House and ‘South Derbyshire’ sign.

Scores of Santas turned Stowe Field Lichfield into Lapland last Sunday morning (18th Dec) as the Festive season arrived with a bang. Many Santas of all ages, as well as dogs dressed as Santa’s little helpers and pushchairs turned into mini sleighs made the scene on Stowe Field a magical sight. Kevin Wilson of KP Events was pleased with the turn out:

“We had snow last year which was fantastic but it was cold this year with a sleety shower early on; so it felt like Christmas at least and the atmosphere was brilliant. A real Father Christmas made a welcome appearance to keep the crowds happy and the festive warm up by the staff at sponsors Lichfield Health and Fitness Club was a great start to the event too.”
