If you will ask me about my personal choice, I think I would go for the first and fourth design. The first design below is quite easy to do and I would just be needing a simple plywood plus some spare linens and perhaps a thin foam that could easily be bought from an upholstery supplies store. We have to choose the colors of the fabric so that it would match the color of our bedroom walls.

What I love about the fourth design is that it is functional and would give me a lot of storage spaces for my stuff. This is just a simple wood work and you may want to recycle the drawers and shelves from your old furniture. Adding a color that would match the color motif of the bedroom is necessary to make this head board stand out.

Our own porch at home

If you have an extra space in front of your house, you may want to consider adding a porch. A porch is an ideal place to hang out and relax as it is usually covered with roofing to protect you from the sun but it is normally open air allowing you to feel the fresh air and enjoy the view or your garden.

I personally like to stay in our porch as I always have a good view of my pocket garden and mini water falls. Somehow, it connects me to nature and allows me to relax after a hard day's work.

I love writing posts about designing small spaces. Not that I live in a very small house, but it's more to my preference of creating more moving space at home. My interest and preference in home designs had greatly shifted from a complex to the simplest form. I find that less clutter is great and I am a number one fan of storage solutions. I have worked on several storage solution projects at home. If only I can replace all the furniture in my house with the ones that offer more storage spaces, I've already done it! But buying a new set of furniture is so costly. Besides, what I am going to do with the old ones? I can never be assured that I could sell everything in an instant, right? So, the only way to correct everything is to find a solution to create more spaces with what I already have.

Sooner, I will be working at home. That's one of my plans. Again, I was scouting for space saving designs for my work desk. Take a look at the above photos. These are all space savers! The one on the first photo is my personal favorite and I can't wait to have this on my home. Really a smart solution! :)

Wear the right attire

Be mindful of power tools

Be sure to pay special attention when you using power tools for your project. Use GFCI extension cord if you need to plug power tools outdoors or if the materials are wet. This type of extension cord protects against electrical shock that can be caused by a faulty tool or worn or wet plug or cord.

Work safely on heights

For projects that require extended time working at heights, use a scaffolding or ladder. However, do not forget to inspect the scaffold or ladder before use to ensure that it is safe. It should be set on a firm base and tied to a secure post or support so that it will not be dislodged. The areas on which you need to step should be free of clutter and should offer some type of grip for your hands. If you need to carry tools on the scaffold or ladder, place them in a tool bag, shove a plumb rule through the bag’s handle and sling it over your shoulder. This will make it easier for you to ascend to and descend from the scaffolding or ladder.

I felt so ecstatic after seeing this backyard patio design. Really cool and awesome! I just wonder how it feels to be in this kind of spot in your backyard. So relaxing! I love the fact that everything was incorporated in this design. A place to dine, a place to chat and a small corner for self relaxation. Plants are minimal and neatly arranged.

I love to see a hammock in my yard. It's a cool way to have a nap in the afternoon. Love those throw pillows, too.

Remembering Dad

It's going to be Mother's Day soon and I'm blessed because I still have my Mom with me. Hubby is not as lucky as I am cause he lost both his parents many years ago. I lost my Dad when I was in still in college. He didn't have the opportunity to see my children. But I have so many good memories about Dad. He's a very strict father and all of us were really scared of him, however, I couldn't deny the fact that he was a good father to us. I remembered how we feel secured and protected knowing that he's around. I was just thinking, "what if he's still around at this time?" "Will I be celebrating Fathers day with him?" If he's still alive now, perhaps I am already busy looking for a perfect gift for him on Father's Day. It wouldn't be hard to find a present for him though, as he was just a very simple man with very simple needs. I remembered that he never drinks any alcoholic beverages but he smokes a lot. If he's still alive, perhaps I can get for him best maduro cigars. Our closeness as a family was affected by his loss. I guess we can no longer go back to how we used to be. That's very sad, but life is full of surprises, we may never know. Perhaps, time can heal all wounds. But I am happy knowing that I had a great father and he will always be in my heart forever. :)

Organize Your Pantry

During my last vacation in the Philippines, I had a great time organizing my pantry. I get inspirations from my previous posts on pantry designs and pantry organization ideas. Although I wasn't really able to do a big make over, I was happy that I was able to have a good start. I bought some small plastic jars of uniform color which I used to store some kitchen stuff like flour, bread crumbs, cereals, sugar, powdered milk, died bay leaves, ground pepper, etc. It works well, as everything looks nice in a row in my kitchen shelf. Now everything gets more visible and easy to find. I bought my cute plastic jars on a cheap price as these were on sale at SM Super Market. It's priced at Php100 per pack of 6. Not bad, huh?

Sooner, I will be moving on to the next level ad that's buying some bigger jars with lids to store some snacks like biscuits, candy bars, nuts, pretzels, etc. This way, I can get rid of plastic bags stuck everywhere in my pantry cabinet which tends to look a bit disorganized.

See those cute baskets? These can used to store assorted chips, nuts and other items for snack and movie time. I love the jars used to keep assorted biscuits and pretzels. I think, by following this basic organization idea, my pantry would be a lot more organized and it means saving some of your precious time looking for things as everything is now within your reach.

My Best Companion Away From Home

Working away from home had taught me a lot of things and one of the best thing that I've learned so far is becoming independent. Here, I couldn't rely on anybody but myself. Good thing that I've found blogging and I would say that it has taken much of my free time now from my full time job. Having said that, I think that my best companion now away from home is my laptop. This is the first thing that I open each time that I woke up. It's also the same thing that would give me company for the rest of the hours left to me prior to going back to work. It's a good thing that I have a reliable anti virus software to protect my files from being harmed. I am currently using Avira premium from softwaresecuritysolutions.com . I'm using this for almost 3 years now and it never fails me. I'm loving my laptop a lot. I'd been using it for almost 3 years now and I never had a problem with it except for the keyboard as some keys are not functioning, so I just decided to use an external keyboard. But apart from that problem, it serves me pretty well. It's quite hard not having a reliable laptop and anti virus software as I am staying in a suburb and no computer repair shops are available here. So, it's really a blessing that mine is functioning quite well. If not for this reliable companion, I think I might have gotten really bored. Thanks to blogging!

Choosing the Right Locks for Your Home

For peace of mind, many people choose to change the locks when moving into a new home. With a wide range of styles of the market, choosing the right set for your home can be confusing. It pays to get it right though, if your front door attracts the interest of burglars, having the right lock can make the difference between success and failure.

Nightlatch

A nightlatch is a unit mounted onto the door instead of inside it. They are common on older homes and are relatively simple to install. While they offer added security, you should not rely on them, a single fixing point, not properly integrated with the frame, is easy to force open.

Mortice Lock

Most common on timber doors, a mortice lock is a unit

that has to be morticed into the edge. These come in two basic designs, sashlock and deadlock. A deadlock has a single bolt, which can only be turned with a key. Found on front doors, these are normally combined with a nightlatch. Sashlocks are typically used on back doors, these have a key operated bolt, combined with a latch and handle.

Although relatively secure and convenient, changing a mortice lock is difficult. The lock and fixings are held together in one unit, which has to be replaced entirely when the locks are changed. They are also not very robust, having all the fixings within a few inches of each other does not give them much strength.

If you are looking to fit a new mortice lock, opt for a 5 lever design and combine it with a kick bolt to help the door withstand a forced entry.

Multi Point Locking System

Most modern PVC and composite doors are fitted with a multi-point locking system that operates with a single key. These offer the best compromise of security, convenience and versatility. Fixing points along the length of the door make it difficult to open by force. Having all these attached to one lock, however, means they can be opened and closed quickly.

The fixings themselves are an integral part of the door, so will need a qualified technician to change. The lock mechanism, however, is fitted within a single cylinder, which can be replaced easily, making this system highly adaptable.

When moving into a new home, this system allows to change how accessible the door is. A single cylinder means the door can only be unlocked from one side. Whereas a double cylinder can be accessed from both sides, and can be fitted with a thumbturn, so the inside can be operated without a key.

A main drawback with cylinders is that some models can be snapped by burglars with the right tools, so whatever type you choose, make sure it is built to an anti-snap design.

Most insurance companies recommend that you change your locks everytime you move. Taking the right steps to securing your home will qualify you for discounted premiums.
