Una de mis ocupaciones es ser diyei residente en The Lounge & Terraces del hotel Hyatt Regency. El local es un espacio con un ambiente relajado y elegante, con una átmosfera sofisticada en su interior y en la terraza con vista a la bahía, en el cual mi tarea es deleitar a los asistentes con sonidos vanguardistas de estilos lounge, bossanova, fusion, jazz, soul y house.
Como parte del apoyo promocional al concepto del lugar, estoy trabajando en la producción de una selección mezclada de algunos temas representativos de la música que programo en el lounge. Comparto con ustedes la primera parte de la tracklist que compondrá esta sesión. Inconstante como siempre y tantas cosas que suceden en tan poco tiempo. De este lado del país, aunque parece ser un centro turístico reconocido mundialmente, en realidad no sucede nada culturalmente relevante en términos locales y la vida nocturna excede mi tolerancia de frivolidad. Pero vino Hercules and Love Affair a Playa del Carmen y eso es digno de mencionarse. Me mudaré para allá... un día de estos.

La Chau Chau Mixtape

El viernes pasado fui invitado a participar en una fiesta muy casual en una casa de algún desconocido. Acepté de muy buena gana ya que sería la última ocasión en que presentaría un dj-set en esta ciudad. Me habría gustado tener una fiesta de despedida más formal con todos mis amigos y seguidores pero varios de ellos no estuvieron disponibles para mi tristeza, pero ya habrán más días en los que podremos compartir reventones, espero. En fin, como mencionaba, 'Vuelve, Vuelve Primavera' fue un evento lleno de rostros en su mayoría desconocidos para mi pero todos muy generosos y receptivos a mi estilo. Entre ellos, llegué a ver a unos cuantos conocidos de otros reventones, e incluso saludé a algunos. Fue una pena que unos llegaran muy temprano y no les haya atraído la imagen del lugar ya que no tenía nada que ver con el aspecto de otros eventos en donde participé; y que unos más llegaran cuando ya había finalizado mi set. Entonces sin más, aquí les paso un enlace de descarga al set, para los que no se quedaron y los que llegaron pero ya era tarde.

Ah, cosas de la vida y las vueltas que ésta da. De nuevo, vuelvo a planes de mudanza y me emociona mucho porque quizás vuelva a mi ciudad favorita, a la que nunca he dejado de nombrar como mi casa y cada vez que lo digo me da un sentimiento de plenitud. Poco a poco, han surgido diversos factores que me acercan cada vez más y más a la decisión última: el retorno. Y aunque parece triste, pues durante mi corta estancia en el lugar en donde todavía vivo, he tenido la fortuna de conocer nuevas personas, grandes amigos que, de irme, extrañaré con todo el corazón. Me los llevo conmigo.

Disco Impactante, Disco Excitante

Kroto Music está de vuelta, sin más explicaciones ni justificaciones. En resumen, ahora en español porque ya hay muchos blogs en inglés y todos escribimos y posteamos mucho de lo mismo; existe una movida muy interesante en México y vale la pena apoyarla.
Quienes han estado antes por acá saben lo mucho que disfruto la música disco. Entonces, muy a menudo hallarán más de estos sonidos publicados en el blog. Trataré de volver a los posts con regularidad, aunque no prometo constancia porque sinceramente, soy muy voluble.

Bailleres at Indie Gestivo Fest : Sort of Review

Last saturday 06/21, I attended to the Bar Obrero to see my friend Rogelio Bailleres perform a live set at the Indie Gestivo Fest. First of all, it wasn't properly a "fest" like it was promoted; it was only a group of rock bands and a couple of electropop projects, including Rogelio, that were got together by a local promoter well known in the city's circuit in order to play a few songs in very small bar in front of a few persons, so it didn't look like a "festival".
On the other hand, it was the first time I saw Bailleres to perform his songs despite of having shared a dj gig and seeing him dj-ing on another night, and I have to admit it was quite surprising to realize that this guy has a solid fanbase that supports him no matter where he goes. True, none of the other bands got such an ovation like he did.
As for the music he featured, to be honest I was expecting for a great show and a little twist to the sound of his productions but it was only Rogelio standing in front of the people, singing and cheering them up, which was awesome but all the music was coming from his laptop which was very disappointing to me because in terms of a live music performance you always expect to see people actually making music in the place. But, as mentioned before, Bailleres and I are friends so once he was done with the set I gave him my opinion and he told me that it was because of the promoter that he couldn't bring a proper setup to perform with and he was in part disappointed too.
Anyway, being professional he made it with the stuff he brought and proved that he has enough attitude to make a party worth attending at; of course, if he's going to be there too.

New York-based musician Thomas Bryan Eaton is set to release his debut solo album entitled Dreams, Demons & Butterflies on July 15th, 2008.
With a style based on simple acoustic folk and blues songs, the recordings burst open with careful colorations and subtle textures. From pedal steel to accordion, whispered vocals to quadrupled drum sets, string sections to the sound of stray cats fighting, no sound was left unconsidered. Not to mention Thomas' tasteful electric guitar playing sprinkled throughout. The result is a complete album that tells a story of one person's take on beauty, sorrow and hope.
To celebrate the release, Thomas has assembled many of the musicians who appeared on the album for a record release party on July 12th, 2008, 8pm at Arlene's Grocery, 95 Stanton St. in New York City.

Rogelio Bailleres to perform at Indie Gestivo Fest

The multi-facetic artist and friend Rogelio Bailleres will be performing his brand new live-set next week, 06/21 at the (awfully named) Indie Gestivo Fest in the Bar Obrero, in Tampico-Madero. Together with Bailleres will also perform some other local bands like Nasty Loren and Jimmy Vaquero plus other cities' bands like the pop sensation Electrica Miami or Cd. Victoria's Rovot.
When finishing, there will be the chance to see Rogelio in his DJ facet during the after-party along with the guys fromElectrica Miami who will play a set too.
This is a good chance to deliver a report about the state of the local indie scene in Tampico, if there is such thing.

When I was living in the mexican caribbean, I used to go often to the beach carrying a CD specifically recorded for the occasion with some of my favorite songs in spanish. Now, summer has not even started yet but the sun makes us feel like if it was already, which also inspires me to go to the nearest beach in the area. Sadly, the nearest one it's not as beautiful as the caribbean's is. So, I decided to stay at home and play my not-so-old CD so that these sounds bring me back to my favorite place on earth. These are the first five tracks that were part of the recording. Disfruten.

Personal Collection : Gustavo Cerati - Bocanada

Bocanada is the second solo album by argentinian singer-songwriter Gustavo Cerati and the first one after the breakup of Soda Stereo.
From the beginning of Tabu and its repetitive sampled drums to the last electronic-instrumental track Balsa, passing by midtempo tracks like Bocanada or Beautiful; the orchestral Verbo Carne, featuring The London Session Orchestra; and Raíz or Aquí y Ahora, both referring to latin legends, the first one sampling Del Aire Al Aire by Los Jaivas, the second one inspired by the story El Jardín De Los Senderos Que Se Bifurcan by argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges; the album reveals Cerati's devotion to electronic music in combination with pop songs full of a poetry that can only be expressed through the spanish language.

It takes a while to value time

Good artists do not take breaks and here's one to prove it.
Marble Sounds is the latest creation of Pieter Van Dessel, who's also a collaborator and one half of the indie electronica duo Plastic Operator whose debut album Different Places (Fine Day Records) has been racking up airplay in Europe and as far as Indonesia.
The first EP of Marble Sounds, A Painting Or A Spill was recorded in Montreal helped by his compatriot Johan De Coster (from belgian band Soon) on drums, Alexandre Champigny on guitar (Redesign), Ivy Smits (best known as the voice on Arsenals 'Switch') on vocals (Something that we'd never do), and canadian singer-songwriter Baptiste on backing vocals (Redesign and Good Occasions).
A Painting... forms part of new solo work with an uplifting, yet melancholic and sweetly acerbic sound. Marble Sounds takes Van Dessel’s song writing to a new level, reflecting today’s desire to hear, feel and think about songs rather than simply listen to them.

It's been great talking to you about me

I was waiting patiently for something that I could say it's fresh to me. Now I'm starting to assume that this will be one of the cool sounds in pop music this year. A combination of sounds we all know plus some others we don't but have imagined though. Soul tech music.
Babies Dream Big is the self-produced solo debut from Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist, Alan Wilkis. The album is an exercise in stylistic cross-pollination, paying homage to the soul, R&B, classic rock, and electronic music of the 60ʼs, 70ʼs, and 80ʼs.
Conceived and recorded mostly in his home studio over the course of a year with the help of a few extremely talented pals, Eric Biondo (Antibalas/Beyondo/TV on the Radio) and Jason Treuting (So Percussion), the album seamlessly blends together acoustic and electronic textures with a little white-boy soul and slick production, taking listeners on an epic journey from the earholes straight into the heart.
BDB grew out of a genuine love for the pop music of the past. As said by the artist, this simple fascination quickly ballooned into full-blown obsession and a mission to boil those pop classics down to their core elements: the syrupy vocals of Stevie Wonder, the smoothness of Hall & Oates, arena-sized Boston guitar solos, Kraftwerk electronics, and The Beach Boys harmony. Alan set out to find his own voice by weaving these essential but seemingly disparate raw ingredients together into unique new forms.

Jamie Lidell releases Jim

April 28/29th is set to be the date for the release of Jamie Lidell's new album called simply Jim on Warp Records, and despite of the fact that when many of you think about this label only experimental electronica sounds come to your mind, Jim is way far from those and much closer to the soul and r&b.
The album is available for exclusive pre-listen in Lidell's MySpace HERE.
Little Bit Of Feel Good is the first single off the album and it's been released with remixes by Señor Coconut and Mr. Oizo. Below, a couple of two other tracks off the album.

Given the acceptance of the In Space At Disco series, I'm back to continue posting more dance oriented tracks until there exists something fresh in the other genres... the freshest, not the newest. This is about the quality, not the hype -most of the time it is so.

Personal Collection : Jeff Buckley - Grace

Grace, the first and only studio album recorded by Jeff Buckley, owner of one of the most beautiful voices in pop music's history, whose style has strongly influenced several renowned musicians, such as Thom Yorke, Matthew Bellamy or Chris Cornell.
When released, Grace was received with mixed feelings from critics and initially had poor sales but since Buckley's death in 1997, the album appears to gain more fans each year and has now sold millions of copies worldwide.
Grace remains one of the most engaging, inspired records ever made, and its songs serve as the best possible portrait of Buckley as a great songwriter and a hell out of a singer.

Recorded in 1967, Odessey and Oracle¹ can be regarded as the only true Zombies album. While their first album included several cover versions, Odessey consisted entirely of original compositions.
By the time the recording was finished, The Zombies were effectively disbanded, due to lack of financial success (!!). Odessey and Oracle was released in the UK in April 1968 and in the US in June. The single Time of the Season became a surprise hit in early 1969, and Columbia Records, in US, re-released the album in February, with a different album cover that severely cropped the original illustration.

Robert Church and the Holy Community is a swedish lo-fi pop band living in Stockholm. Formed in 2006,that year, RC&HC recorded their first EP Low at the Disco followed by the next EP called the The Live Sessions. In early 2007, indie cassette-label Best Kept Secret released both as a double EP. They have played gigs in Stockholm and did a small UK tour playing the Indietracks Festival outside of Nottingham. A new mini-tour to UK is comming up this spring, plus a full-length release on Series Two Records early this year.

Fever Marlene releases White China

After releasing Civil War, Fever Marlene comes back on March with their follow-up, White China, recorded during a stay of 4 nights and 5 days at New York's Chelsea Hotel. Despite of having demonstrated their talent to elaborate so perfect pieces of indie rock as those in their previous album, the band's members have delivered now a "vulnerable album, full of delicate songs and melody."

UK band, Mystery Jets has this new single Young Love already floating around the web. Most of times, I try to avoid the instant excitement that a "brand new" pop song causes in me but this is a gem and you must pay attention to what it's here to come.
There's a video of the song HERE, a very nice one actually.
The single was produced by the renowned DJ/producer Erol Alkan and it features a guest vocal by Laura Marling who will undoubtedly get your attention this year in her own rights too.
