After more than 100 years of duty, the spectrophotometer is now retired and allowed to spend the rest of its days safe and sound in a glass cabinet in our Krüss museum.

The use of refractive index in correlative methods for the determination of the gross composition of viscous oils and waxes often requires its measurement at elevated temperatures.

ASTM D5006 for Measurement of Fuel System Icing Inhibitors (Ether Type) in Aviation Fuels.

DiEGME is miscible with water and can be readily extracted from the fuel by contact with water during shipping and in storage. Methods are therefore needed to check the additive content in the fuel to ensure proper additive concentration in the aircraft.

Spotlight on our sturdy, robust ‘speedway star’, the KRÜSS DR101-60, testing methanol at the speedway league ‘Elitserien’ in Vetlanda, Sweden. Measurement is done by calibrating the device with methanol instead of water. Any contamination of methanol will be shown as an increase of the refractive index.

Conny Samuelsson (FIM/SVEMO) took the probes. He was an active speedracer during 1968-1985 and vice world champion in Inzell, 1977.
