We are excited to introduce these artists and their new albums here rockin' out at KSCL! Check these out!

Hellogoodbye with "Would It Kill You?" <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0rkho1ubeitwa_eCVOiZMbF68Fnld9Gn_iQNZ4TSWQwkL6qcKa4BUqGimFzbUz6NeRVSbKGWUzkf6u_6sXI6vjb-OmrZk2AmQWiKyN2SAdS9oBmtQWaN401U3QWU78GzUdtuwwOcxTBY/s200/hello.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572911165767406290" />
Hellogoodbye has been flirting with the number one spot for the past three weeks. Everyone here at KSCL seems to be enjoying this album a lot. This is their sequel to "Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!" which is appropriate to the new album title "Would It Kill You?" Their sound is indie synth strong.(Zakk) : This new album is so much fun! All the songs are perfect for us ADD generation, multitasking crazies. The songs are short and simple and you gotta love this album. Reminds me of Panic at the Disco, but better. This music is very hook driven or at least for me. These tracks fit hand in hand together and you will not want to stop listening to it! (Katherine) These guys have finally found a style that really works for them instead of trying to emulate other artists. Definitely a catchy sound that's very upbeat and full of love-dovy lyrics that are far from cheesy. Their new spunky sound is super fun and yet warm and somewhat sentimental at the same time. These eleven tracks are definitely memorable and awesome!

Seth Glier with "Next Right Thing" <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgra0gmwyDWbefFNlVoSNIGX1l4QoNLE4YizSnGLckQ2yWgf1fieRG8KAWj5zmSxkZ-TQP2_8lMNiW3dj0wCbkVyuEoLNOEMAAPRZ8cxQtnIwTqtNvRujkAWKrMwV2roUqtri4mSiMQCgc/s200/seth.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572911371012726226" />
This album is Seth's second release. Here at KSCL, we have his first album and we played the hell out of it! We enjoyed Seth Glier's previous album and this excitement continued into his new album "The Next Right Thing". The most played track this week is "The Next Right Thing", which is a folksy chant that is a Capella. (Zakk) : This track just makes me feel amazing! I feel like I am chanting and rocking out with Seth Glier! His entire album has a nice pace to it and it keeps me hooked the whole time. Seth knows how to use those musical techniques of crescendos and decrescendos that most artists do not use in today's music. I absolutely love the album artwork. The album artwork consist of a 1950's looking office scene with the man himself (Seth) in a suit with slick back hair drinking brandy from a glass. He also has an entire panel of artwork dedicated to a type-writer. Must be important somehow. (Katherine) : Wow, this guy is really talented! For someone who looks so much like a grown up Frankie Munez, he has great depth in his music and lyrics that you don't see in many artists. This boy has a very poetic and complex idea to his lyrics that are greatly thought provoking and intriguing. He really likes for his songs to start kind of soft followed by a great rise in voices or instruments, but sometimes he really likes to quiet things down with a lone guitar and voice. Overall he has a very pop-folk feel to his music, but he likes to mix it up by using a different mix of instrumentation and vocals. He has definitely won a spot on the top 20 most played songs on the iPod of my heart.(Cheesy, but true).

Nate Currin with "Goodnight California" <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGAMAkarLQlvfQB6PlTFaxdgWCZcSRW0F0SUyWJVbzyQj7GEZ7b_RkQrB8MCV3IB1Oh2VGzWftRIzaO0k_AGLKQgP6Wp0XD21-8zkqv4aCiNmfXSzjPY9giItid6AeDkZwn71_c3uHj_M/s200/nate.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572911260988270770" />
Nate Currin has always had a pull to music. He started playing the piano at the age of eight. Since then, he has continued to write music as he grew up and learned the guitar on top of it. He is influenced by the British New Wave to Seveties Folk. (Zakk) : He is a very good song writer. His music reminds me of a more upbeat version of Snow Patrol. His lyrics are very creative, like my favorite song off his album called "Gypsy Girl". He mentions Passion Pit in his lyrics. It is really fun. Gotta check it out! Finally, his sound is somewhere between folk, rock, and electronic. Very creative!

Destroyer with "Kaputt" <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCsf-WJfFdGVH8f1bXySgu1vTzISHcKRK6-6XmI3_DDfJ9j_Il6-Gjm8dR-icrrnci4BVbmcf1i9_RkKPI0WeFuB-bQg08icGy81bCvtkVU0kT59jkvzDVvdqN4mv0JDbHaiyGbp7jzuQ/s200/des.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572911048912015458" />
(Trevor): Destroyer is another project courtesy of Dan Bejar, who is best known for his songwriting skills for the New Pornographers. It seems as if Bejar saves his more adventurous side for Destroyer. This new album is a pretty eccentric work that spans a huge range of musical styles. Think of sitting outside in your driveway on a really foggy morning...and Destroyer is what you will hear. (Zakk) : I was surprised when we got this album at the station. Trevor reviewed it and after he showed me this album I was going crazy for this album. I cannot believe that Destroyer is number one on our charts, but hey Trevor and I were not the only people who like Destroyer. My favorite track is "Savage Night at the Opera". The name of the track should be enough to explain why it is my fav.

Four New Albums You Are Going To Love!

Hello Listeners and Readers,

Here is the Top 4 Albums of this week that are brand new and that you need to check out now! We are the music experts (Zakk Owens, Trevor Stine, Katherine Ball). Here the albums and artists:

White Lies with "Ritual" <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 160px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt2FQqpnhjy-ikRivC42dh0_D0I7mEpY1Xr25C_hZiNsNv7aaReeJ5vkEaPRx0Y1YL1wh7rC0wbYfz29gZWNIro8Q9WfVvaweBC6dpPot8ZxM5gUhqQMS1xs9ESSQZ3KkPD6o4O4tSDng/s200/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570317765877909026" />
With their newest album, Ritual, it actually knocks up countdown this week. Here in Shreveport, White Lies was the coolest thing in 2009 when they rocked our airwaves. Overall though the United States, we were only place that liked White Lies. They are from the UK and they are number one on their charts overseas. Ritual is their second album looking to find some more success in the United States. (Zakk) : This album is one that will be in the top 100 of 2011 for KSCL. My personal favorite track is "Bigger Than Us" which is track number three on the album. Album artwork is a little weird with two twin girls on the front. Anyways, their first album was centered around the thoughts of losing love in life. This new album has taken a different turn. It is more centered around a sacred idea. Listen to the album and tell us what you think. (Katherine): Their first album really showed us how UK punk they are and they really delivered that sound. On their newer album, however, they show a softer side to their British rock/punk style. The last CD ended with a question saying "Is This The Price of Love?", and this CD seems to be the answer to that question by telling us what they think love is. To them, love can be easily lost, but just the fact that you loved at all was worth the price. (Trevor): Speaking of lies...

Shirock with "Everything Burns" <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH8F5QaTgqSV5WDfC0ct1jMsqkk4h52qGdvycRlmaV5OWIb4oNJW8FY1ISTqiQbxx1sNEYg8Lihc0JmCL1kMtpBGonYgXxbi4KWKlZroWAaUY2Ak3TVIU7-aQrPkGQHUN0yBB9M1XDEt8/s200/shirock.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570317898913777010" />
(Trevor): Everything Burns is the new hard-hitting album from Shirock. Getting their start at SXSW, Shirock has exploded on the indie scene and has seen 5 songs off of this newest album on MTV's The Hills. They are even being painted as a mini-U2, and personally, I would have to agree. This album is full of emotion in every song, which can be accredited to some awesome vocal deliveries by frontman Chuck Shirock. Throwing in some female vocals occasionally to top it all off makes for an album of overall pure greatness. (Zakk) : I would love to see this band in concert. Their album has so much energy that is very impressive. Glad to see another band from Austin, TX make to the indie rock scene.

Oh Land with "Oh Land EP" <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 199px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhunBe9OfkLDuDRRSxf7NUJotm5KnLujmfKcC55nhaZ9Td4wi28XKywRFPWESFKiKcSDQcm86uQS_jGcEqSUHX2XmI1VDIA7KwsGQckn12Q-gJD-LzCCgxMDHNEpNSu28ZTbCx3br34n3M/s200/oh+land.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570318210008649890" />
This short EP features the song Sun of a Gun. This artist is for those listeners who enjoy dance music/electro. On the album there are remixes of the hit single. Be on the lookout for the full length album. (Zakk) : I love this EP. It is as if ABBA and Ace of Base had a baby and that baby decided to make dance music just like its parents and it became very successful. I think "Sun of a Gun" should be played at every frat house here on campus! Are you sick of the same music being played every week at the frat houses then request Oh Land. Only losers live in the past, so listen to Oh Land! (Katherine): This EP is definitely a winner. It really brings a great sound to the electro-pop world, both appropriate for the dance floor and for just waving your hands and singing along in the car on your way to her concert! (Trevor): I think she's pretty...I want....her hair.

Details Details with "Details Details" <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGo-fNVowl5QDq10W4LJf-QguxY0L8v2r3DTaV7-x0zCXmrztRsASBL0JVnIsHyqd3lCikvUD3TDKm7WXVSN_J9wXQP4VtUgJ2fDbaGBcKwR0MUMetXlasGE7ZO8PsuzsWjJAHfnynXXU/s200/details.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570317644110152194" />
This band has found themselves in Top 30 for three weeks in a row. For those who like Owl City and Innerpartysystem, you will dig Details Details. "Zoned Out", "Providential", and "Dissemble" are the top tracks on the album. (Zakk) : I am very impressed with Details Details. Their sound is just awesome. I am always shock when I listen to this EP because the artwork is nothing like the band's sound. The EP artwork is a little cheesy, but I predict for this band to be on stations around the U.S. in no time. (Katherine) : The first look at their album artwork and you think, "Wow, cheesy computer nerd music!". It's true, the cover does look like a nerd had a slight obsession with the original Mario, but his sound is very modern and catchy, much like Owl City and Innerpartysystem. Seth Williams...I will get zoned out with you any time if you would just sing to me! If you are bored like us, check out these artists and their wonderful albums:

Mother Mother with "Eureka"
Pendulum with "Immersion"
Wanda Jackson with "Party Ain't Over"
Kids of 88 with "Just A Little Bit"
Cold War Kids with "Mine Is Yours"

Happy snow day again!
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL5V6hCVkoYXHu1synsocdKEOfW9JkLi8JFpKY2aoCaC4qMzR5bYw1mrAykwidB6lTHiDDUncRtIOkuTIGK8NHSQva8v9Zf9DzwmhhywvrJ0Q_9EJ1iDzFUCwuQtBi8LJkF1GlZCzp0MI/s200/index.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569954216805332194" />

New Music That the Music Experts Know!

Hey Readers,

We (Zakk Owens,Trevor Stine, and Katherine Ball) are the music experts of KSCL and we are going to tell you what is going down in the new rack and countdown.

1)La Resistance with "Philosophy"<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 178px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrmw3ZEiCFJRm9ItoDyWqLjYwYnfmngisV0wcnQ6RBhdW300oaPpP5ff_YT1oBu3XM-G-lnEtB6F4zSjnVckA9x6gCQs5t87XQ_fTfBMU3UAk2EndFXoysU53rdQrLFg9ZOPPHBj_0lPc/s200/LA.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567716204808380418" />
We definitely suggest this new album to our readers/listeners. Trevor Stine loves this new album and wants to see it do good on the countdown for the weeks to come. (Trevor Stine): La Resistance hails from Birmingham and has that great chill-pop feel that we all dig here at the station. The album brings in a lot of issues that lead vocalist, Greg Summerlin, was going through with his record label and modern society at the time, so the lyrics really have the potential to resonate with a lot of people.

2) Daft Punk with "TRON: Legacy Soundtrack"<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiLIgeQ7SGEOqUdmDrZYJ-JbZ0Hfl8XenXRBT3rDjdM8EaDnBN2CdJWvHNTqTF14oJVJ9Ik8SPxKWLD03dgmcGMTgSBIU4-umNxSPc2D4l2urRXxGPGs2BLt_5GuRQUhTwk07W-xGpyXQ/s200/TRON.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567716357294809906" />
This soundtrack has smashed up our countdowns. This album found itself at the number one spot for the second week in a row. (Zakk Owens) : Even though TRON: Legacy was not the best movie of the year, the soundtrack on the other hand is super awesome. With the leading single "Derezzed", it can definitely get you into a fighting, aggressive mood. I have personally decided to make it my ringtone for this week, so it must be good. This electrifying soundtrack will have you lit for days, humming the melodies and beat til you drive your friends wild. Cannot wait to find out if Daft Punk will continue to break the number one spot on our Top 30? Who knows?

3) Ian Axel with "This Is The New Year"<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQGriGsXr3Iz_x1TTperDRCFk-wYf5E1GddOfoggNDoskdOBx_Ws34NYWv9zerOlQw-hec18B3AQpGIDwf-fKowDkmmKEnZYsDw2ZVUi6u4UXG8wLyj3A42gOpiPuCxGIQL2XZbSdtJ9s/s200/IAN.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567717010381770162" />
What an awesome name for an album! Ian Axel is climbing higher on the Top 30 every week on the countdown. Ian has been compared to Elliot Smith, Ben Kweller, and even Ben Folds. (Katherine Ball): Although most have heard that piano heavy song from more than one artist, Ian Axel balances his piano led songs with different sounds on the keyboard and keeps true to his folkish pop sound. He has a great balance of melancholy and happy making you feel that whatever pain was bothering you before doesn't quite matter. His cute and catchy melodies make you want to whistle them through the rain because of their carefree sound. (Zakk Owens) : I love this artist. His catchy melodies definitely stick in my head all day and night and possibly to the next day. Love him.

4) Cage The Elephant with "Thank You Happy Birthday"<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 199px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg70tHj7ELWjxS0uO_PmNcZehEPdiAHupl0tWkePbTGYgNFSNiCbTROHg8L_7JwNvwsLbsNw6RKyVCS1FntSENLqfhixB18EfCq9GZCMr3jzXxMoid22yfU3JG_XUOEeMNPesX95xWDgcs/s200/CGAE.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567717563509562178" />
This is Cage The Elephant's sophomore album. This album definitely continues that nuance sound that listeners have learn to love and appreciate. (Trevor) : This is by far my favorite album of the month I would have to say. "Thank You Happy Birthday" shows so much growth for the band from their debut album, "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked." You can really tell that their influences have multiplied, and it has definitely been for the better. This album has the same catchy vocal style as the Cage The Elephant we all love, similar to Colour Revolt or even old-school Mewithoutyou. Overall: A + for this one, friends. (Katherine Ball) : Although their song "Ain't No Rest For the Wicked" was definitely very memorable and one of my favorites, overall their CD was somewhat disappointing. This latest CD, however, has a more mature and less experimental sound that still holds true to their individual sound. (Zakk Owens) A very mature sound from their previous album. Sophomore slumps? No way!

5) One Step Away with "One Step Away"<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 132px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ_xPf3PXSPAxW5w67kVpIorWndsedqXVO9ZGOOk2BTT_AEC4cOfa7UMRZm7aCa0JwT5K534dX3MNaU6jqfEYMNcp27G4XIloxKgWgy2QAmzttot5gtBo-Agdg9se8ZkCcdKB459L4dhM/s200/step.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567717373931584786" />
These kids find themselves on our countdown at number 13 this week. Hopefully number 13 will be their lucky number this week for them to continue their success on the countdown. (Zakk) : Their sound is a boy band sound. For all you girls out there, this is your band. With this whole album centered around one subject, love, it kind makes those people who are lonely, hurt more. For those love birds out there, this is your album. I am guessing from listening to this album that the boy members are already taken. Sorry Katherine... (Katherine) : When first listening to this CD you expect it to sound like a bunch of love drunk teens trying to find a way into a girl's heart, but their surprisingly mature sound and strong vocals are anything but. Though the lyrics are nothing too new, they still show you the sweet side of these boys who want to share their experiences and perhaps find help for those who have been hurt by love.

6) Sick Of Sarah with "2205"<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 155px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2UmoJebjKygog6aozzJoqjJp_Suq8XHjraFaxvurNcPq4MV5lN559A1FKuLsHPjeTe1pXiS5u5uqI7WclfxbkVwkoHh4bXjGYo5naBLinbLtjCJfWVSpd-8BDT0vZ7rxqNPmoqp9qJlA/s200/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567717117024838290" />
This is Sick Of Sarah's sophomore album here at the station. This albums is incredibly better album from their first. (Zakk Owens) : I loved Sick Of Sarah and now I might propose. These women know how to rock! I was very upset though that the album was only 10 tracks. Their sound from their previous album has changed to a darker more controlled sound. Their first album was more experimental than this one. Love it, love it! This is for those people who love rockin' girl bands or people who are just sick of, well.... Sarahs. lol. j/k.

Battle of the Bands!

Battle of the Bands is coming March 26th right after Centenary's Big Event 4! Trevor Stine looks like Vince Vaughn. He also acts like him too. Oh also the Top 30 show moved from Fridays 3-6pm to Saturdays 1-4pm. I know! Tradition... Longest reigning show.... Best music on Fridays.... I know! Trevor and I have schedule conflicts with school and what not, but hey Saturdays are going great. Something else to look forwarded to on the weekend. We will have plenty of guests on the show like our first show. Special guest Katherine Ball tells us a thing or two about the newest music she has come to love in year 2010 and some new releases that will come soon in 2011. So keep it tuned to KSCL 91.3 FM!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 130px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjapikb5gmqmDv1YZnWwVIlE3bMVVgV8FysNngodbNz7w1SVadhEUOETmJr89nbYAuGxBFKtww67JUt4YrDb-j1qfzbNBGE50P8z8s7Z1mVL0EUuvw3U9ys7wKHpov8fGuMPYzUpnJ-fw/s200/Vince%252BVaughn.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565102254112642722" />.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 113px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSRp8lS4nv2cF9FK9ZHWNmgxv74mfaxQCIjGsSIeCxmG-zbE6HWhmINNZ0L6yVSalcVqok0HX20KvIwXlLoURqqYKHiKo3fH6uEdFV-pW6LIft6fuMzwbxt4i8-XC-F-_QsYmsPYs2620/s200/10318_1169890080500_1025400088_30568349_7912504_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565103070019542002" />

Mickey Finns Concert This Tuesday!

Do you love to dance and have a good time?
THEN YOU NEED TO HEAR THESE GUYS!

KSCL presents THE MICKEY FINNS in concert. Tune in to KSCL Shreveport 91.3 FM and hear the hip hop top 10. Merwin is taking his driving test today and that's why I am doing the show today. The countdown is amazing! You will never guess who is number one! Could B.O.B. take gold again for the third consecutive week or did Sage Francis have enough in the tank to be number 1. Tune in to find out. Also, around 2:30, I will have a special guess. Cazes and I will be interviewing Matthew's Davidson Band, the winner of the Smash Burger contest for the top local band in Shreveport! These guys are super sweet, so tune in to not only hear the best hip hop in Shreveport, but check out one the top artists in Shreveport. Trust me, it's going to be fun!

PS: Check these guys out before the interview!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugUvVDBD6dE

First Blog Post . . . This is your Hip Hop Director, Merwin. So finally I'm actually posting something to the blog. Hopefully this isn't too boring for ya. I mean, this is my first blog. But anyways, I guess I'll talk about my show Audio Illusions and the music we played today.
First off, the Top 10 for week of 6/29! Some new artists to the countdown were Hopsin, a young artist who packs talent and irreverent edge, and Stevie Stone, a Midwest native with an uncanny sound like no other! The Top 5 included artists Resin Dogs, B.o.B, 4-IZE, and the funkadelic Declaime. But what could have been number one?

None other that the high-funktress, singer-songwriter Janelle Monae!

Her album "The ArchAndroid" is, as one person described it, an "epic James Bond film in outer space!" With blockbuster vocals, mysterious imagery, and notes of 60's pop and Jazz, how could anyone refuse to love this album? Ecpecially the track "Cold War".

Well anyway other music you missed out on, or remember if you tuned in, were Lazlo Supreme, Matisyahu with his awesome track "Smash Lies" and some throwbacks from Veer Union (had to put a little bit of rock in the mix) and MSTRKRFT (pronounced Master-craft).

Well that's I can think to talk about, but check back next time, and I'll some even more exciting news to tell ya about. And don't miss the show "Audio Illusions" Fridays @ 1-3pm, right before the Top 30 Show! Your friendly music director. I decided to go back to blog about the KSCL Top 30 and inform our listeners and readers about the coolest, newest music for you to know about! Now since our show is on Friday from 3 to 6pm, I don't want to ruin anything or any surprises we might have on the show. In order to keep the show a surprise, I will talk about the Top 5 artists in no particular order. Without further a due, here is the Top 5.

FOOLS FOR ROWAN with "TWISTED. TANGLED. TIED UP."
Fools For Rowan makes their way back on to the big Top 30. These guys were charting with us at the beginning of the 2010 year and in the past month, they did a re-release of their newest album with Tinderbox Promotions. Fools For Rowan has a sound of strong rock that you as a listener will appreciate. This five band from Nashville will not only be in the years to come, but they might go, well... Mainstream! Fools For Rowan definitely is the band to listen to and their music will make you want even more! Be on the look at because they might perform here in Shreveport.

THE BLACK KEYS with "BROTHERS"
The Black Keys have been riding on the countdown for the past 3 weeks and this week they find themselves banking in the Top 5. These guys are very popular with a lot of our listeners and they continue to grow in fan support here in Northern Louisiana. Recently on their website, the band posted a new video for the song Too Afraid To Love You. The video takes place live in the studio where they recorded the album. Also featured on their website is a tour schedule. If you happened to find yourself going to Oakland, CA or Portland, OR, then might a suggest the Black Keys as something to check out for you summer adventure.

TOBACCO with "MANIAC MEAT"
Where start with Tobacco.... Well this band is a spin off of Black Super Moth Rainbow. I feel like that is a good start. If you remember in 2008, that was when Tobacco release their first album Fucked Up Friends, then you must remember how awesome Tobacco was. "Street Trash" (Fucked Up Friends) was one of the most popular songs here at KSCL and still is. "Street Trash" is probably played at least 3 times a month if not more. It's that damn catchy, I swear. Anyways, where was I... Oh yes, Street Trash may have been a great song, but stand back. Tobacco team up with who? That's right, Beck! The coolest track to have at the parties now a days would have to be "Fresh Hex" (Maniac Meat) with Beck himself. Currently the song is one of the most played songs off Maniac Meat. So stand aside "Street Trash", there's a new track in town and it's "Fresh Hex"!

BETH THORNLEY with "WASH U CLEAN"
Beth Thornley finds herself this week cashing herself in the Top 5 again this week. Beth is an awesome performer and her music will make you want to move all over the place. This is Beth's fifth week on the Top 30 and she doesn't seem to be slowing down for that number one spot. Beth's most popular song at the station currently is the Wash U Clean song. This song is well-crafted and very enjoyable for the listening ear. The begins with a horn playing the main melody for the song and then not too much later adds in the percussion and singer. One of my personal favorite lines out of the song is in the chorus, "You got the match and I got the gasoline". Finally the artwork for the album rocks and the colors of orange, red and yellow make it the perfect summer album. Lookout!

DEPRECIATION GUILD with "SPIRIT YOUTH"

The Depreciation Guild jumps up high on the Top 30 this week moving up not only into the Top 10, but into the Top 5! These guys have been on the countdown for a total of 4 weeks. Currently, the Depreciation Guild release a single on their website called "Dream About Me". This track is offer is available on 7'' vinyl and that rocks. Depreciation Guild is a lot of fun and it is great to listen to the entire album. So if you are looking to chill out for the summer, check out the Depreciation Guild and cool off from the summer heat.

Who will win this week on the countdown? Will Beth Thornley heat up the competition and find herself at number one? Will Depreciation Guild freeze everyone with their cool tracks? Will Black Keys team-up brotherly with another artist? Will Tobacco use their crazy luck to achieve number? Or will Fools For Rowan tie up all the competition and steal that number one spot? Tune in Friday from 3-6pm to find out!

FROM THE INBOX OF A MUSIC DIRECTOR

Hey kids,

Wow...Would you look at that. Two posts and now a third? Wait, whats that...3 POSTS IN ONE DAY!!!??? This stuff be mad crazy yo.

Anywho, I was searching through my email inbox and came across this email that said this:
------------

KSCL people,
I play with Astrid Pierce, a four-piece Brooklyn, NY-based rock and roll band, drawing from influences such as My Bloody Valentine, Television, Joy Division, the Verve, and Nirvana.
By now, you should have received a copy of our most recent release, The Mainline Mile EP, via AAM. We'd love for you to have a listen and pass it on to any DJ that may be interested in adding Astrid Pierce to their playlist.
Also, if you're able, we'd like to welcome you to post "Shakin' on the 1 Train"
Thanks very much for your time and consideration! We look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Yours,
Craig Harff and Astrid Pierce
---------------

I took a listen to their EP and thought, "Yea, this is pretty good." So I said why the hell not?

"Astrid Pierce is an independent rock and roll band from Brooklyn, NY.
The band has inescapably catchy lyrics, resonant guitar style, haunting violin, primal drumbeats and punchy Beatle-bass. Combining to make a sound that channels Nirvana's unpolished plangent honesty, the Beatles' pop sensibility, The Edge’s guitar techniques and the Everly Brothers' vocal harmonies, all folded into an Oasis-like wall of sound." -Astrid Pierce Press

So yea. The little spiel above is pretty true.

Ok Ok. I get it. You might know me as Kirk Reedstrom, your humble host from 10pm-12am Tuesday nights, guiding you through the sound-scape that is Jazz and what have you. After my own little hiatus known as mono, I am back and better than ever. So hold onto your seats, drive around or sit at your computer (how ever it is you listen to my show) I'm on the search for even more new and exciting Jazz and Blues to grace your ears.

So much stuff is going on right now in my small part of the KSCL world. We've got some Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey that's about to hit the airwaves soon. While I miss their old bassist, Reed Mathis (effects guru and bass virtuoso), their new lineup is sick. I'm not sure how I managed to miss this, but in case you did too, you can download JFJO's album Winterwood for free from their site. Idunno how many Phish fans we have out there, but I can't stop watching the tour promo videos they've been posting lately.

That's about all I've got to share with you people now, so until next time, I'm off like Fluffy McCloud.

An announcement from your newly appointed Program Director:

Hey, kids; bet you don't remember me, Austin Price, the man once responsible for seeing you through the terribly dangerous time period that spans 12 in the evening to 2 in the morning on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. After a too-long hiatus, I'm back now, doing things that might signify my movement up in the world: where once I was a lowly DJ, answering to the slave driver of a program director above me, I am now that very same slave master, here to push the lowly DJs beneath me around until they quit out of frustration with my iron rule (little do they know what our DJ contract says: this shit is for LIFE).

But I kid, I kid. I simply mean to tell you fine folks that from now on, I will be back on the radio, writing for this blog and generally being a much bigger presence around the station. So, for those of you aspiring to be DJs, just send those applications to austinaprice@gmail.com; same to you with any questions about this business, any information I might need, and even that information I don't know I need!

So thanks, everyone, and I hope to make this a rather fine senior year for myself and everyone around me.
